I laughed so hard at the Alpha 5 thing. To the point that I'm not actually gonna correct you on it.
No go ahead, I've earned it
@@TheLastWizard Zordon created the rangers, he has a robot named Alpha 5. The big mech is the megazord: a combination of the 5's own zords (giant robot prehistoric animal in line with the theme of each ranger).
I thought the same. Just the picture of Alpha 5 obliterating Rita's monsters is a delight.
@@SNESdrunk You're a good sport, drunk.
Lol
To say the first MMPR game's music is just "pretty good" glosses over how absolutely badass it is. Seriously. The lady who made the music for Mega Man X3 made this soundtrack!!
I was just about to write a comment like this
the music on the 5th level is soo good!
I’m so glad so many people have rallied behind the first mmpr game. It will always be a classic. Absolutely nothing boring about it
I got it for Christmas one year and it was like the highlight of that holiday for me lol
This guy just CLEARLY does not like Power Rangers. Personally, it wasn't an amazing game but it was pretty good for it's time. I managed to play it all the way through, which is more than i can say for most games.
it might be nostalgia but i enjoy the first power rangers game
Nostalgia is a word that has no meaning to me; Either you love something for all time, or not at all from the beginning. ;P
same we had it and played all the time. took us forever to learn you can wall jump. After that we couldnt put it down
I played the crap out of that game
I have the first 3, loved the 2 side scrollers the best
@@sonicmario64 that has nothing to do with the definition of nostalgia
The last one doesn't just look like a Mario Kart ripoff, it looks like a Mario Kart ROM HACK!
That's the original Megazord, not Alpha 5 (in the Megazord battle stages, and Alpha 5 is Zordon's assistant) There is also Gekisou Sentai Carranger: Zenkai! Racer Senshi (based on the sentai series which Power Rangers Turbo is based on and had footage from) which is released only in Japan but only for the SNES Sufami Turbo attachment.
This comment needs more frothing rage
Neorevenant Arbeith XII he literally prefaced the entire video with a disclaimer about his knowledge on the series.
That is the second megazord.
@@SNESdrunk cope seethe cope cope
You really gotta mention the stellar music in that first game.
seriously it's 2021 and that soundtrack still slaps
Played the first game, loved it!! Great memories!
The first game is decent. It's nothing revolutionary or incredible, but far better than you made it out to be.
Yeah I was about to say, as a non PR fan the first game was a fun time
Oh it's not like SNESdrunk was a flawless opinion reference. After I've watch dozens of his review video I came to term with the limits of his argumentations. He's no sacred reviewer saint. You just need to read some of his answer back to his viewers to see that.
Not really! Compare it to Turtles in Time the Rangers have a insanely limited moveset. And the fact that its not 2.5 Dimension but really only left to right take away another layer of potentially fun gameplay. I think his assessment of the game is spot-on.
People shouldn't see everything old through their Nostalgia goggles. If the game is bad, its bad.
@@Winterhe4rt His review wasn't thorough, it was a very surface-level look. For instance, he didn't know that there's a 2 player fighting game mode that lets one player control the Megazord (which he hilariously calls Alpha 5) and the other controls one of the boss characters. Huge chunk of the typical game play experience that anyone who ever had the cartridge and looked up the cheat codes on a magazine would know. There are other things he glossed over, but that's the biggest one. (Music is also super underrated.)
I played the game and found It horrible, the second is much better.
"Zeh-oh"
"Play as Alpha-5, the mech robot"
Why do I get the feeling that you *_have_* seen Power Rangers and are just trolling everyone?
Has to be, cuz even doing research would give that answer
I wanted to write THAT EXACT comment. x´D
I personally consider MMPR the movie a hidden gem in terms of beat em ups.
Easily my favorite beat em up on the system
One punch game
It not just lazy that they didn't change the women's sprite, they also reused the Red Ranger sprite for all the rangers. All helmets are the tyrannosaurus.
EnE85 they have six unique sprites! C'mon
Alpha 5 the mech robot.
Aye, yai, yai--oh! Oh no!
Dude, I'm surprised that you didn't even compliment the music for the first game, and I'm not at all ashamed to buy a used copy of the game to add to my collection, even if it can only be enjoyed in short spirts. :P
i remember playing the power ranger movie game a lot as a kid. only vague memories now, but the boarding sections really got me nostalgic..
OMG that Power Rangers Zeo racing game is just straight up Super Mario Kart! Look at those tracks. Koopa Beach, Mario Circuit, Choco Island, it's all there!!!
"What is this, late 90s MLB?" Lmao that was gold.
I'll also disagree on the first game. I mean...it's not the best game ever made or anything. But for someone who wants to play a beat em up, wants to chill while doing so (It's ridiculously easy), listen to great music. And finish the game in about 30 minutes, it's perfect. Easy to go through, enjoy beating up some putty's, and continue on with your day. Plus it's pretty cheap, so I'd recommend it. Granted that might just be the nostalgia talking in me, but I still go through it today usually as one of my first picks when I want to play a game on the SNES just because of how short and satisfying it is.
Alpha 5 the mech robot. *triggered*!
I had the first game as a kid. I was a big MMPR fan and this game was huge. It was a pretty good representation of the show. The music is the best element. I recall trying the movie game at some point. 2 player co-op and morphing whenever you like was a serious upgrade. It also offers more difficulty. I'd still stick with the first one. The movie game attack button limits you to literally just a single punch, where as the first game lets you do "combos". Both are redundant in nature, but I'd lose my mind playing the movie game doing just a single punch over and over.
Just got my first SNES since the 90s. Really been loving all your videos. Man, I gotta say, give those first two another go. Both are perfectly good beat em ups with stellar soundtracks! Grew up with the movie one but I HAD to play that OG version anytime I could get my hands on it. The very first game (of many) that I bought for my new SNES, along with the Fighting Edition.
I think MMPR The Movie is more enjoyable than it seems. The 2 planes instead of a "full 3D" plane helps the game to be unique, also adds some strategy to it. The presentation, sounds and graphics are excelent (except for the Rangers' sprites). But the best part are the bosses, very creative and different from each other (which is super rare for a beat'em up).
There is also another Power Ranger game. Kind of...
Gekisou Sentai Car Rangers is based on the show that Americans "transformed" into Power Rangers Turbo.
(the Power Rangers series always adapted stock footage from multiple Japanese TV series)
And the 2 player co-op is a great plus! I was really dissapointed that the first game didn't include it so it was the one aspect that I hoped they corrected in the sequel, that and the lack of the Green Ranger, which we never got but at least there was the white ranger who thankfully got his own set of sprites.
i think the 3D makes harder to hit enemies and easier to get cheap hits
@@Shinmsl The first game did have a competitive 2 player mode
I feel like you were a little hard on The Beat em ups. The boss animation and music are amazing. Thanks for your time and effort entertaining us.
Thanks for getting to my request! Awesome video as always
I'm going to say I have Power Rangers the Fighting Edition and it really is a good guilty pleasure fighting game that I'm glad I still own to today.
It's pretty solid actually, even if you're not into PR. And the graphics are awesome, top-notch stuff!
Diego Zuñiga Yeah they are. I had it when I younger and I didn't appreciate it back then and sold it. Years later, I sort of get back into Power rangers and I came across the game again from when SNES Drunk did a review of it much earlier. I bought the game back and love it ever since
I loved the Power Rangers Beat em Up growing up........ I will have to go back and try it again, because I know I really enjoyed playing it with friends as a kid
Ah bro, I am so happy someone did a video on these!!
Great as always! Greetings from Vienna, Austria!
Natsume was also responsible for MMPR and Powe Rangers The Movie for Super Nintendo.
The Sega versions and I believe the GB versions were developed by Banpresto.
I’ve never heard anyone pronounce Zeo like you have. It made me laugh. 😂
Power Rangers.
The movie.
The game.
“What is this late 90’s MLB?!” Lmao
That “mid 90s MLB” quote was golden.
I’m in the same boat with Power Rangers and apparently that’s just completely unheard of based on the other comments on the video. Always quality content sir.
Thanks for taking the time to watch
Love your videos, glad I found your channel, I just signed up to be a patreon
ohhh so that's why the fighting game felt so great, Gundam Wing Endless Duel was incredible
Huh, I love Endless Duel. Didn't know it was the same engine.
Nice video. I've played all these games and I agree with you assessment of each.
I like the original. As a kid, my friend and I could never beat the final boss/second round after he energizes. Even today, it can take me a few tries to beat him, but I'm sure it's nostalgia more than anything. I enjoy playing it every now and then.
Great job brotha 👍👍👍👏
All of them are worth playing because they are all awesome :)
Lol! What the shit?!
That racing game looks like super mario kart.
Used to play the beat em up and the fighter, that was a pretty great fighting game
I remember my older brothers listening to "Timbiriche" and watching Power Rangers, but I never watched the show either. Years later my nephew found a snes at home with the Power Rangers: The Movie (I believe) game in the slot, we tried it, and we had a great time, it was so much fun, even if we didn't know anything about these... acrobats in motorcycle suits. I will try the fighting one. Thanks.
The same engine used for the P. Rangers mech fighting game was used for the Gundam fighting games, I’m not surprised. The sprites, animations and the stylish, chunky, fast and flashy combat is very similar.
Cool side note:
If you die from boredom you also start from the beginning... the VERY beginning.
While I didn't get swept up into Power Ranger mania as a kid, many of my friends were. The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers The Movie game on SNES was actually the first beat 'em up game I ever played, and it was actually really fun. I totally wanna grab Fighting Edition sometime, tho
I disagree about the beat em ups and I do not have any nostalgia for Power Rangers. The first one controls well, has decent graphics and holds up pretty well. The second one is developed by Natsume and is obviously either modeled off "The Ninja Warriors Again" or was a precursor. That's an excellent game, but perhaps you do not like belt-scrollers. Seems like people hate on them because they're Power Rangers games. Oh well, kept it cheap for me to pick up physical copies.
Ninja Warriors is 999x more interesting than MMPR. I did a video on that game a few years back.
999x? Seems awfully high for two games that are coming dangerously close to "re-skin" territory. Anyway, I love both and think you were too hard on the Power Rangers games.
1:15 That eye guy brings back memories, I had to try to find a clip to see if I remembered it right. I made a paper mache version of him with cheerio's for eyes for a school project. Eventually mice ate him at the school, lol.
I really like the 1 on 1 fighting game. The sound and graphics are awesome and the fighting engine is decent too
Most of your reviews are on point
Snowboard fights are like peak 90s action lol
I've been wanting you to review some Power Rangers games for a while and I've been a PR kick the last few weeks so this video came at a good time haha. I agree with your criticisms of the games, but I do like them in part due to the nostalgia factor. Keep doing what you're doing, SNES Drunk
Nothing like being a 90’s kid 🥺
Sometimes I click your videos just to hear ssssnes drunk
I picked the first two side scrolling Power Rangers games from a Pawn Shop in a box of SNES cartridges (I was either too young to know what was good, or everything else was just sports titles) somewhere around 2003-ish, and I had Power Rangers Fighting Edition way earlier back in possibly '99 or '00, I could never beat the Side Scrollers and clucking Ivan Ooze (the purple guy) in Fighting Edition was unbeatable for me. My older cousin even failed at him.
I also (not to drag on) ended up with Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue on the N64 somewhere before 2003... I've had terrible luck with Power Rangers games. I don't even bother with the newer ones.
I actually prefer the original MMPR game opposed to the second one based on the movie. The first one is more fluid and quite a bit easier despite being only one player. I’ll admit it’s rather uninspired, and seems like a quick cash in, but I still find myself popping it in my SNES much more than I ever thought I would. It’s not bad when I want to turn off my brain, and enjoy a breezy, one hour game. Plus, being a MMPR fan as kid, I always get pumped up when the theme song kicks in. I can’t help it.
Me too. As a child I saw Power Rangers, even the movie, I never considered myself a die-hard fan, in fact, it's not one of my favorite classic series to be honest, nor did I try these games until very recently. So, far from nostalgia, I can say that the first game, seems fabulous to me, it's not the best beat ´em up but it's certainly agile, dynamic, entertaining and with great music, it's fun, but I can't say the same about second game, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie, I didn´t like it too much, the AI of the enemies is clumsy, the characters move more slower and are even more limited in their attack movements, I liked that it could transform when the energy bar is full, I like that like the music, I like the option to continue once dead and I like it the dynamics of jumping to the bottom of the screen, but I feel that even with all those improvements, the game lost a lot of dynamism and fun in the gameplay compared to the previous game.
I never realized that the SNES and Genesis version of the Movie game were different. The Genesis one is a surprisingly good beat em up. Speaking of beat em ups I'm surprised there hasn't been a Sega Drunk on the Streets of Rage series.
Check out his newest videos! He did a review of Streets of rage.
I remember playing this game for hours on my mate's Mega Drive...but then that was childhood. Going back to it, it is difficult to see how I could bear such tedium without a bit of amphetamines to take on the edge.
The first game was definitely a cash in, but I remember getting it for my Birthday and just blazing through it and enjoying it. That being said looking back they could have put a lot more care into the game to make more memorable.
What I find most interesting is that MMPR and MMPR the movie are completely different games on the Genesis than they are on the SNES.
I never heard of that Zeo racing game, but its a straight Mario cart rip!
Battle Racers is so precious to me
> SNES drunk: OK Google, what's the name of the, uh, robot from Power Rangers?
> Google: I mean... Are you asking about Alpha 5? Or Alpha 6? or the android duplicate of the turbo rangers? or how about any of the zords or robot monsters ever?
> SNES drunk: Alpha 5. Got it.

I remember putting that code in so many times as a kid, I believe it takes you to level 4 of the first game.
I can’t help but think the Zyuranger Famicom game could EASILY have been released for the NES as a Power Rangers game! Would’ve been nice for cash-strapped families still with an NES, or buying the toploader.
I can't say i agree with you on this one except the fighter.
The first Beat em up was absolutely for fans of the show but it was perfectly fine. Was the sprite recoloring lazy? sure, but tons of games did that and I didn't see you knocking them.
the second game was actually a step back in terms of combat as the combo system was basically destroyed. Sure the power meter was an interesting change but I still feel the first game over all (sound track included) was just plain better.
As for the racing game....Yeah we don't talk about that
Shots fired at late 90's Major League Baseball
Ken Caminiti isn't gonna take this lying down. Oh wait...
I owned a copy of the first game back in the day. I thought it was okay. Difficulty level wasn't too hard and the first time I fought with the robot thing was awesome.
Even though I don't agree with all your points in regards to the MMPR game, I do appreciate the quality and time you took to review the game in an unbiased manner by not backpedaling off nostalgia. Well made video Snesdrunk 👏
this game is still good! i grew up with power rangers but this side scroll beat them up is very legit. good bosses and fun when you morph into your gear.
There's a hidden character in the first MMPR beat-em-up. If you press forward, down, forward, Y in the title screen Juanito, the Mexican with power sombrero will be unlocked.
I remember going to the grocery store on the weekends and renting the first game. I actually really like it
Aw man I was hoping some of the Super Senntai titles on the super famicom would be in this video too
Why do people keep saying this game was released in 1995? The game was released in Sept. of 1994. I got it for Christmas that same year. The manual had advertisements for the year 2 toys as well which also came out that month. The auto morphin rangers, thunderzords all were advertised in these pages. The next release was MMPR the Movie which was an early summer release to coincide with the film, then in late 1995 the fighting edition saw its debut. No MMPR games saw release in 1996.
the beat-em-ups where a HUGE success in Brazil's rental clubs
I actually really love the first power rangers game you mentioned. I still need to play the other beat em up though.
the first one is amazing,
i think the PR beat n up games are one of the most friendly of the genre. also i think theres a power ranger turbo game for snes
The Power Rangers SNES games are like lighter versions of Ninja Warriors and GS Mikami on the Super Famicom - at least the first two you mentioned. All developed by Natsume with a very similar gameplay feel.
I liked the first power rangers game, it was good
Wow, they decided to change the Pink Ranger to have tig o’l bitties 😂
I loved the first two games. And the third one is pronounced more like zee- ohh. But I like how you did that lol
There was technically one more game on thee SNES. It was for the Sufami Turbo, it was of course never released outside of Japan but was based on CarRanger which was what would become Power Rangers Turbo.
Alpha 5 the mech robot sounds like a tv show i will watch xD
Loved that game
That mother fuckin outfit change tho lol
The only Power Rangers game I ever played was a PC game. I think it was either Neo or Zeo. Something like that.
FYI, I rented the first Power Rangers game for the Super Nintendo (the one you said was so boring) back when I only had my first video game I ever got, which is Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, which was packed with the Super Nintendo I got on the Christmas of 1994. I bought the game while on my 2015 trip to Atlanta, Georgia and I still think it's a pretty good game.
I loved the two beat-em-ups on the SNES, though admittedly I was totally into Power Rangers at the time. It's one of those things where it's exactly everything that a Power Rangers game needed to be. Sort of like Turtles in Time for Ninja Turtles... you want a game based on the license, it should be a certain way given what the license is, the game comes out, and it's exactly what it is. No more, no less. The action is good, it doesn't take too many liberties, the music kicks absolute ass... in an age where so many licensed games are God awful, Power Rangers had it pretty good on the SNES.
I actually like that there's one plane and you can't move up and down. It sets it apart from other beat-em-ups and it opens the door for ducking and crouch attacks which is not a huge part of the game, but it's there. In a way it made me wish it had Street Fighter 2-style special moves to go along with the one plane of movement. It would've helped with the variety. They could've done a lot more with the formula and turned it into something really special... it is in essence very basic.
I was like 16 when Power Rangers first aired. I would get home from school and watch Batman: The Animated Series, which for a while was followed by Tiny Toons Advemtures, and then Animaniacs. Power Rangers would come on after that and I'd just watch it and laugh, I thought it was such a hilarious show that looked extremely low-budget. I really enjoyed that show.
Hilariously enough, my grandmother actually bought us the first Power Rangers game for Christmas despite the fact that we were way too old for that show. I think she just wanted to buy us a game and had no idea what to get. I played it anyway, and you know what? I thought it was pretty darn decent. I'd play it again.
I played one of these Power Rangers game back in the day and enjoyed the game. In 2009 played the game on an emulator and got bored with the game within 45 minutes.
"he these games doesnt do anything different for a change"
*game does something different
"why doesnt this game do just like the other games?"
1:40 That's because in japan they are all men in that generation!
I had that first game as a kid and enjoyed it quite a bit since I was very into Power Rangers at the time, but really doesn't do anything for me now. The first level and boss fight power metal themes are still amazing though.
Go GO Snes Drunk.
Same, I never watched the show and I was in middle school at the time. I was watching the hell out of Batman though
I can’t remember what console it was on but I distinctly remember a Power Rangers fighting game where you were a normal Ranger/Baddie in the first round and then in the second round you were either the Megazord or a giant version of the bad guy.
It’s not fighting edition so unless I’m going mad and it never really existed could anyone tell me which game it could possibly be please
There's another game that was a SFC exclusive, while not really being Power Rangers because since it wasn't adapted to west it remains strictly a Super Sentai game(the original version of the japanese shows that later became the Power Rangers). This game was based on the show Gekisou Sentai Carranger, which in Power Rangers was adapted as "Power Rangers Turbo". The game was good in terms of graphics and sound as you'd expect by a competent developer like Natsume, but it was much more simplistic and childish as the Carranger show was much more geared -snort- for younger viewers, and that may be the reason why it didn't get translated onto the Snes.
One more interesting thing about the Carranger game is that it has multiple endings depending on how many tolkens called "parts" you collect. If you don't collect enough you fail to summon the Megazord (or whatever the Japanese equivalent is called) and you get a bad ending.
The first game was fun and finishable .. the movie one was hard as hell and I never finished it * back when * the first one is my favorite.
