    The reason the SNES movie game doesn't have anything to do with the movie is because it was originally intended to be a sequel to the first game but based off season 2. It was originally called Wrath Of Lord Zedd which is why there are Z's everywhere and why you fight Ivan Ooze in Zedds throne room. However due to the movie being released they just took Zedd out and put Ivan Ooze in instead.

    Gundam Wing Endless Duel is amazing. The Power Rangers Fighting game was the prototype, you can easily tell. Both good games.

    I can’t believe I ended up buying the Super Edition of Power Rangers Battle for the Grid just based on your videos and my slight fascination with fighting games despite being terrible at them, but your videos really do an amazing job of making me care about games or franchises I’ve never cared about before. I hope you end up doing another Power Rangers video one day, would love to see what other games there are in the series.

    Something awesome about the Genesis version is how Lord Zedd actually keeps his focus on the ranger he deems highest priority. If your the White Ranger he'll keep his eyes on you, if no White Ranger is present, he'll keep his eyes on the Red Ranger. I'm sure Blue and Black were focused over Yellow and Yellow, and even if you are the two girls I believe he focused on yellow.
    It's a shame how easy the game was but I suppose as of now you can acknowledge that the designers new it was for younger kids.

    So hey, it didn't have much use outside of boss attacks and *occasional* screen-clearing, but in the SNES movie game after filling your meter you can use a big screen-clearing attack that is unique to each ranger. That explains why the meter drains: so you can't hold a big powerful move in reserve indefinitely. I do agree that it would be nice if they let you use the weapons outside of this mode, though!

    MMPR: FE was definitely where Nintendo had the last laugh. That game was awesome, and much like its predecessor on the Genesis (the original MMPR fighting game), there was a code to unlock a hidden 9th playable character, which allowed you to ruin friendships by playing as Ivan Ooze's broken ass LOL.

    From what I hear, the Power Rangers Fighting Edition game uses a similar (but not the same!) engine as a Gundam Wing fighting game in Japan. Over there though the power bars work differently and imo better: you get to shoot a cannon at long range and special moves detract from the same power bar, which is filled by landing attacks and such.

    I never noticed this before: The boxes for the Sega games have all six rangers on the cover, but the Nintendo ones only feature Tommy, as if to say "Yes, these ones have Tommy in them this time, OK? Please stop sending death threats!"

  • @NiGHTSnoob
    @NiGHTSnoob 7 лет назад

    Fun fact: Like you said The Fighting Edition is running on an earlier version of the engine used for Gundam Wing: Endless Duel. The Power Rangers title came out 6 months before the Gundam one and it seems likely that the game was taken on after the Gundam title had already started development and was rushed out the door first for whatever reason. That's why the game has a Zord focus and you can't play as the individual Rangers, the engine was being designed for giant robots from the get go. Endless Duel is quite a bit different from Fighting Edition though, and honestly I prefer it.
    Also, I played the hell out of Power Rangers: The Movie on Game Gear as a kid. I decided to check it out a few years back just to see if I was a dumb kid or if it was actually fun and was surprised by just how well it holds up. Definitely more enjoyable than the Game Gear versions of Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 at any rate.

    10:33 You say the SNES got a game that couldn't be done on SEGA's hardware. Actually, there is a fanmade port of that exact game for the Genesis, and it looks about as good. You can look up various videos of it.
    The game is probably just a proof of concept more than anything, but it's fun to know that game could have been done just as well on the Genesis.

    The only Power Rangers game I ever played in my childhood was the movie version for the SNES. I enjoyed it, even though it wasn't nearly as good as most of the other SNES games I played. I didn't care much that it didn't follow the plot of the movie, since I wasn't really that big of a Power Rangers fan back then. Also, I think they were much more popular in the US than in my home country of Germany.

    "Gundam game on the same engine" Ah, yes. Gundam Wing: Endless Duel. It's a pretty fun little fighter(I love Deathscythe), but the only way to play it is either by emulation or by finding and importing the Super Famicom game. It never received an official English SNES release, as it was made and released 4 years before Gundam Wing was introduced officially to US audiences, and by that time, the SNES had been shelved to make way for the N64.
    If you use emulation, there IS a translation patch available, but given that it's a fighting game with minimal story, it's not necessary to enjoy it.

    Personally, I felt that 8 characters plus 1 unlockable was a bit shabby for a fighting game on the Super NES since by the time it was released, Street Fighter Alpha 2 already had a massive cast of unique fighters, and I really wished they had put in the effort to include more recognisable monsters, or even the old Megazord and Dragonzord, especially since the latter made no appearances on the Nintendo. Instead, they filled out the roster with two generic monsters-of-the-day I'm half certain never even made it into the show. You could have at least used Rito, since they used the other jobber.
