The best gaming device Nintendo has ever made? EVER?
CMON.
Alright, it's a fair opinion.
Yeah I know. The Wii U had a small library, but among its small library was gem after gem after gem!
J Taylor Saying that the Wii U was a better one was actually a joke. The Wii U's great, but yeah. If I was picking something seriously, it would be the SNES
I agree the SNES is one the best Nintendo consoles but the Wii came pretty close i mean it wasn't perfect but it was a big comeback from the Gamecube when didn't do too well (not the Wii U they obviously wanted an ambulance when they named it)
portable VC with all that great M2 (SEGA) support... it's hard to argue against it. I still feel the NDS is the best thing Nintendo ever made, followed by GameCube or SNES.
Man, I just noticed how you almost argue any Nintendo console except for the NEW and Virtual Boy to be the best, and it'd be true. As someone else has noted, the Wii was amazing. It wasn't amazing really for the core gamers, but for family and friends. And, obviously, new ways to play.
I mean, any console with Ducktales is automatically worth it.
+Vkmies Imagine if it had been ported to Virtual Boy!
Woo ooo
DUCK TALES! A WOO-WOO!
Have you played DuckTales Remastered? What did you think about it if you did? Did you know there was a DuckTales 2 on NES?
K then I'll get to Port duck tales to the Virtual boy
Not pony tales or cottontails no Ducktales woo hoo
The 3ds is my favourite system I have EVER owned.Totally worth the money. But this august my first 3ds of 5 years 8 months wouldn't stop scrolling I bawled my eyes out. My baby was dying. I swear when my original xbox broke, when my ds lite broke and even when my dsi broke I never shed a tear. But this 3ds was just different, my best friend, the thing I took everywhere i stayed. I tried to use my old 3ds but to no avail and i couldn't just reset it as it had like 200 euro worth of software.I got a new nintendo 3ds ( not xl) like at the last sunday of august.I transfered everything over. I reset my original 3ds and turned it back on, it still scrolled. I shed a tear and took its battery out. It lives in a shoebox.R.I.P. my original 3ds.23rd/12/2010-28(ish)/8/16This was written as a tribute to my gorgeous aqua blue 3ds.My 3ds got electronic dementia ;-;.
Jacah Smith z
Jacah Smith How many people actually still own the original aqua blue 3DS. Cheers by the way, I still own my one, dropped a LOT! But it still works, with my 3DS Nintendo Power NSMB2 decals.
Aww, that sucks. My original black 3DS that I bought at launch no longer has a reliable shoulder button. It's semi-retired, but I carry it in the case with my new one so I can use it for StreetPasses.
I agree, it was like a child to me DX. I will never discard it. Even if its broken, it still has a lot of sentimental value to me.
My aqua blue 3ds' hinge broke, it didn't really bother me since i had a nerf case but one of my stupid friends actually PULLED on the top screen while i was playing metroid zero mission (i had cfw) and the top screen broke. luckily my mom fixed it
Really quality editing. Your videos keep getting more tastefully done and are a joy to watch, man. Kudos!
+Spuzzwick Thanks, I'm really glad the off-camera 3DS footage didn't completely ruin this one.
+The Geek Critique eventually all you'll need is a professional-esque title and you'll be one step closer to being one of the big guys :U

And Metroid: Samus Returns is proof, that the 3DS still didn't fall.
Hans Gretl yeah I was like what fall is he talking about? Still going strong.
@@davidalvaradoda did you watch till the end?
@@JavaIsnom well it's been 6 months but I'm pretty sure I did haha. Don't really remember and I'm not really going to watch the video again to find out.
@@JavaIsnom Actually yeah I did watch the whole thing. I went ahead and watched the end again and yeah I'm pretty sure I wrote that comment while I was watching the video.
True i just bought a 3DS specifically to play Metriod Returns, and it's my first console purchase since game cube! However it's somewhat disappointingly simplified. They obviously spent lots of time designing the physics and graphics, which makes me wonder why there is such little actual content. Some of the abilities have such short lived utility they're just a novelty. And the diggernaut chase is a blatent rule breaker for samus' typical invulnerability. Not to mention 99% of the enemies you just parry and shoot once... very sad smash bros influenced the game. The melee attack would be fine if it didn't have the parry that makes everything too easy. Frankly though 3ds has 25 mature titles, that's it.... it's a kids console obviously, look at link between worlds, so simplified and childish vs link to the past.
The main reason I prefer physical games over download ones is that I actually own them.
+Inazuma65 Physical release>DRM Free>Digital download with DRM
well not only that, if you break your 3ds you can say goodbye to your games, as there's no account like the PSN or xbox live.
+jamusan Nintendo ID....plus you have your SD card.
Last time I heard, you can't put the SD card into another 3ds that's not the one you're registered on (although things might have changed?).
And what's nintendo ID? I ask because I have one game on my sister's 3ds but I couldn't use her account on my 3ds (forcing me to make a new one, but then I stopped to bother).
also swapping the memory stick from the new 3ds ( yeah because you are not gonna go far with 2gb of memory) is just a pain and requires going online to watch a tutorial on how to do it
You mean: _the rise and fall and rise of the 3ds_ right? edit: why did this get so many likes
More like the rise and larger rise of the 3DS
He most likely meant the Fall and Rise of the 3DS, even if the title is in reverse order...
Michirin9801 how can you fall from no stature
You don't, but you can already start high, like the 3DS did as mentioned in the video...
SAVAGE!
There are some rare instances where I subscribe to a person after only watching one video he/she made. But this video wasn't one of those instances. In this case I subscribed even before finishing the video. Keep it up man!
Ok, so you teased the fact that Ocarina of Time doesn't live up to your standards by saying you'll save it "For another Time". Well it's 2018 and there's still no Ocarina video dammit!
I'm just assuming he's eventually planning a Legend of Zelda retrospective series/season, which is when he'll eventually make and release an OOT video. Maybe not soon, but definitely eventually.
The last Metroid review is in captivity, there is still no Zelda Marathon.@@TackyRackyComixNEO
12:33 proud of you for the &knuckles
MultiYoshiman CORDS
& Knuckles
:) Excellent video. I have a PS4 and Wii U but my 3DS is currently my favorite system that I own. It will definitely go down in time as one of the best gaming devices of all time
Game Boy advance SP is my personal favorite because it has the ability to play classic Game Boy, Game Boy color, as well as Game Boy advance titles, and as a backlit screen, and the clamshell functionality makes it so portable and convenient. I love it even more than the DS and 3DS
I feel we are the around the same age. Your fondness for the Dreamcast in your Dreamcast video reminded me so much of myself. It is without a doubt my favorite console ever released. Over the close to 20 years since its release I have owned a total of 4 of them and as long as I can get one if mine messes up I will continue to.
Like you I also got the 3ds on launch day. I never got enjoy the benefits of a release 3ds since the hinges on my original one broke breaking it in half. I did buy a 2nd one when the prices dropped to 170. At the age of 35 I will admit I buy the console solely for the pokemon main line games. Doesn't mean I have not stopped to play the great remasters and other releases from its lineup. It is a very solid console you can carry in your pocket and play your game right where you left off. Even sit at home gamers should one.
Very solid content you more then earned a sub my friend.
I personally am glad that I didn't get the 3DS until later. When it launched, I didn't see much reason to get it. As time went on, I wanted one more and more. But I still wasn't quite convinced yet. Then in the fall nintendo direct of 2014, they showed a trailer for Majora's Mask 3D. I was so F*&$ing Pumped! I NEEDED to get a 3DS now. I had every reason to. Great 3DS titles like Super Mario 3D Land, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Zelda Link Between Worlds and New Mario Bros 2 all looked astounding. And it had some great ports on it. DKC Returns 3D had ZERO motion controls. I couldn't stand having to shake the Wiimote in that game. And Starfox 64 3D looked awesome. (I haven't played that game yet, so I was excited to play it for the first time.) Along with those, it had Ocarina of F*ing Time! And the 3DS also had Virtual Console games. I couldn't wait to play Super Metroid on the go. Not to mention that the NEW 3DS XL had Face Tracking 3D. Throw in Majora's Mask 3D and I had no choice but to get a 3DS.
I guess my point is that Nintendo needs to launch their hardware with more and better software. Like the saying goes: "Software sells Hardware"
So far, I have replayed DKC Returns and I love it SOOO much more without the motion controls. Super Mario 3D Land may be my new favorite Mario game. I haven't had that much fun with a Mario game in a long time. I am about to start Majora's Mask and I can't wait! I just gotta go finish up Twilight Princess HD.
Nintendo would've almost certainly been better-suited to wait until Holiday 2011 to launch the 3DS. I mean, like I said in the video, they didn't even have many of the firmware features ready in March!
The Geek Critique
I hear ya man.
My need for the 3DS came from OoT, but Majora's Mask made my throw down for the *New* version. Overall the system is nice, but I still rarely play it. If I am mobile, I play more things on my phone than anything else (also a PSP and Vita owner).
Drew Heath that because the real reason to get a 3ds is for metroid 2. Pick up that 3ds again
Isnt it the rise and rise and rise?
Its 2020, and I still regularly see people using the 3DS everywhere, me included.
I still carry my 3DS around, and yes, I still play Mii Plaza. Those Play Coins are a good reason to take a twenty minute walk - that virtual garden isn't gonna grow itself!
More than any other system right now I find myself going back to so many games. Just today I tried some Coin Rushes in NSMB2, which is probably the Mario game I've sunk the most hours into.
Isn't it the fall and rise?
Ragnar Ahlman He mentions that at the end
Now it’s the fall and rise and fall cause the 3ds is dead now
Dylan Brown Could you really call it a fall? Every console has its end.
Ugh. My 3DSXL died a couple months ago and I'm REALLY trying to hold off buying a new one until the price for the Switch is announced in January, but this so makes me wanna just splurge and get a N3DS anyway. I miss it so much. :-( It really is one of my favorite consoles I've ever owned, and my gaming history goes back to the 80s.
Jason Blalock Well now you're good lol
Actually, Street Fighter 4 wasn't the only game that had the option to disable 3D in the menu. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate let you do that as well, though I don't think it improved the framerate.
"was the best handheld nintendo made"
nintendo switch: hold my beer
Not a handheld. That's a console with portable elements.
@@OniLordMiki Idk why they would go back to pure handhelds now that the Switch is here. It blew open the doors and cornered THEIR OWN MARKET on portables.
@@OniLordMiki Switch Lite then.
@@OniLordMiki TGC said "the best gaming device Nintendo has ever made". The Switch is most certainly a contender to dethrone the 3DS in that regard, if it hasn't already.
I strongly disagree, the switch has wayyy too many faults.
I got lucky with the Ambassador program. Right when they announced the upcoming price drop and the Ambassador program, Walmart and a few other retailers dropped the price right away. For a short time you could purchase at the lower price and still get the 20 Ambassador games.
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon sold the 3DS for to me. I love it so much!
Noah & Toad Same here.
When I saw the title I was ready to argue with you. I barely ever use 3D or amiibos and yet I freaking love my New 3DS (and original 3DS before that)! I put over 600 hours into it in 2016 - a new high. Still playing Mario Kart 7 with friends, playing Xenoblade Chronicles since I didn't own it on Wii, the new Pokemon and Fire Emblem games. Incredible library and console. Glad you love it too! I'm both sad & excited with the Nintendo Switch most likely taking over both home and portable Nintendo gaming. Thanks for the great videos. Found the channel a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed looking through your past content!
Great video! Made me realise just how much love I have for the 3DS. Now a proud owner of a Switch which will probably replace the 3DS as my go to handheld device, but will always adore this gem of a system.
2019 and the 3DS is still alive and kicking
I remember REALLY wanting a 3DS at launch! I would watch video previews of it and just get excited. I wasn't able to get it at launch but I did get it for christmas that year. Got the one with that cool Iron Man red that came with Super Mario 3D Land. I fell in long with the game and the console. New Leaf was a game changer for me. Love the Animal Crossing series so I sunk hours into New Leaf. When the New 3DS released, I picked it up at launch so I can play Majora's Mask 3D remake and I loved the bigger screen. Not having a charger was baffling but I had my old one so I used that. Transfering my data was a pain but I eventually got it. My cousin was doing something for me on it and accidentally erased my data and lost all my digital games. I didn't buy anything. Mostly stuff I got for free but that included that Zelda Four Swords game. Regardless, I loved it. Wasn't a fan of the nub and the only game I had that took advantage of the New 3DS was Xenoblade Chronicles. Honestly, I don't have many games but the ones I do have, I love. The 3DS was awesome.
Yeah I got the 3ds launch date as well. I had it on me everyone since. Those early dates were rough but it turned out okay. I remember waiting until midnight to update my 3ds to download the eshop and how disappointed I was when I found out the mega man legend 3 was canceled.
I would love you forever if you put the music you used in the description. It took me way to long to figure out the outro was the 8 melodies
I too got a 3DS at launch. I knew the launch was shoddy, but as an actual pilot I enjoy Pilotwings on principle, and above all, I had an intrinsic feeling that the system was going to be great in the end.
It was wonderful to see that feeling vindicated. Recently I got a New 3DS XL (Galaxy edition!!) and it is the most beautiful handheld I've ever owned. I DEEPLY look forward to playing Xenoblade on this thing, and I have both Super Metroid and Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy + (boy that one's a mouthful) permanently stored on my system and it's such a wonderful feeling. Those load times are beautiful too. Really noticed it while playing Mario Kart 7.
It's saying something that literally the only 'problem' I can think of with the 3DS right now is that the Switch may end up eventually overtaking it - and fundamentally that's a good problem for Nintendo to have. It's great to see them kicking ass again.
Stay sexy, Nintendo. You always were my favorite major game dev and the current era absolutely shows why.
MH4U is the game my wife and I spent over 1000 hours playing together, and it’s really what helped us bond. I love her so much, and MH4U helped bring us together
I still have to play the new Smash on the 3DS one of these days. Good video, Geek Critique. Me personally, I only have like five games for the the 3DS with three of them being Mario games. I loved 3D Land, although NSMB2 and Sticker Star I really am not a fan of. Surprised you didn't talk about A Link Between Worlds.
+The Side Quest Gamer I have yet to play it, actually!
The Geek Critique you'll love it. One of the best 2D Zeldas ever. It caters to ALTTP fans, yet everything seems so new. That is a retro revival done right.
+The Geek Critique If you haven't, give a shot to Mario & Luigi: Dream Team too. Fantastic RPG, really one of the best on the already amazing series.
Can't help it if it's all Mario, seems over half the games they release are mario, they lost a lot of their good franchises and target youth too much, x25 mature titles total?!?
Great video man. I wish you had more views and that your channel was bigger. You make some top notch videos.
Oh the 3DS. One of the more fond memories of my childhood. I was so pump when it was launched. I remember looking in to it for months before it came out, I was so excited about the 3D without glasses. There weren't so many games but I didn't care, it was a fun idea. Rest in peace Satoru. Rest in peace childhood, it is nothing I will ever ask to be different. I miss those days...
TheFirewalker damn how old are you if that was your childhood? You make it sound like it isn't their most recent system besides the switch.
Wait, that's what the Ambassador system did? Woah, that's amazing; it really does make me feel special
I loved the 3ds my son still plays it to this day
For some reason, I ignored your videos in my recommended section. I was a silly guy because dang I enjoy this channel.
Thanks for coming around on me! :D
Dual Destinies best in the franchise?? How can you say that so confidently?!
+kimpy07 I was also surprised. I feel like most fans of the series would disagree. Personally, it's one of my least favorites, which I guess can mainly be attributed to Shu Takumi's character writing over Yamazaki's overly dramatic plots. Phoenix's development in Apollo Justice wasn't quite there anymore, Apollo *still* didn't get a real chance to shine and Athena was yet another young genius lawyer. And all the voice actors chosen for the NA version just felt wrong. That and the cutscenes were so very stereotypically "anime" it hurt. ...although maybe you have different reasons for what you said.
kimpy07 I can agree with you there
Dual Destinies sucked
I think its great, but just a little worse than TT and SoJ
He probably didn't play the fan translation of Investigations 2.
He mispronounced Trials And Tribulations
I only got a 3DS recently (about 2 months ago) and I'm in love with it... It's like being back in the N64 days except the games cost half as much =P
"They're comfy, and easy to wear!"
I see what you did there ;-)
The 3DS really didn't hit it's stride until the eShop dropped. Then it ran wild. And getting the streetpasses in the McDonald's also helped.
With my family still owning a working Wii, I saw myself in the early days of the 3DS playing on a 2DS that made me ignore the 3D feature, and still up to day, I'm playing on a "new" 2DS XL system that feels like the full upgrade of the 2DS I was given 4 years prior of all the iconic video game experiences I've ever had. Along with me and my brother having countless hours of funny moments learning how to play Sm4sh for the first time.
Be glad you are not a big Monster Hunter fan because if you were and you played it as much as me on a New 3ds XL you would have broke your circle pad a long time ago and had to order and fix it just like me. Monster Hunter is an amazing game I just wish my DS could hold up to me playing for so long lol
xxVincentVxx shit kind of makes me nervous of playing mine 😅
Nah dont be I just play roughly lol
"If you have the heart of a gamer, well, you have a 3ds"
*was always too poor for one*
*cries*
To defend a bit of monster hunter, if you know how to handle the monsters, and to damage certain parts, and then capture instead of kill, the game not only loses a great deal of grinding, but the individual hunts are shorter too, since you can capture a monster around 30% dead, and that extra 30% of a fight you save REALLY adds up in not a lot of time.
When I first got my first 3ds, and club nintendo and reviews were still a thing. I said it was a shame the 3ds can't use the camera on the front to track the player for lining up the 3D. Turns out it was a good idea.
I want a continued sequel to this video. There's so much more to tell now.
Personally, I think the early launch of the 3DS was a good thing. It let Nintendo work out the kinks of their new console. If they released the system that November at $250 dollars, it would be too late to course-correct and the system would have squandered the holiday season. It might not have lasted a full year to the NEXT holiday.
This platform was worth it because of SMT4 alone, everything else is just bonus to me.
Glad to see you making video again! Also I brought my 3DS on launch in my country and I completely agree with you it was quite a underwhelming first half year but by year 2 it became the handheld it was meant to be. I'm hoping to get the Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer New 3DS XL for my birthday this year as well. Probably one of my most Nostalgic 3DS moments (If you consider 5 - 2 years ago as Nostalgia) was when I went to Summer Of Sonic (The big Sonic The Hedgehog convention in my country) 2011 and around 100 Street Passes including Yuji Naka (It was the 20th Anniversary Party for British Sonic fans, of course he'd show up). But yeah, the 3DS is awesome and I can't wait to see what NX handheld will be like.
The 3DS is definitely one of my all time favorite consoles
RIP Iwata.
My favorite Nintendo handheld of all time. Awesome video!
So wait, that was confusing. Does Street Fighter 4 on 3DS run at 30 or 60fps? Not that it matters much here in 2018.
Happy to see you back!
Great job on the video! A game I wanted to bring up was Link between worlds because that was the game that got me into the 2D Zelda games.
I'd like to hear your personal documentary of The Legend of Zelda games and your history with the series.
At the end, I had tears in my eyes. It was wonderful to relive my journey with the 3ds again.
As a 46 year old gamer, my New 3DS is the 1st hand held system I've ever owned. Aside from the Entech space invaders game I had in 1982 when I was 12... I love it. I bring it everywhere.
The way people who are into the MH series describe it to me indicates that it's about reading tells and rolling out of the way at the right time, along with a bit of picking the right tools for the job. (They also indicate that the biggest difference between easier monsters and harder monsters isn't the damage they do, or the health they have, but the length of and subtlety of the tells), but it sounds like you managed to last longer with your first MH game than I did.
Its weird. I had a gameboy advance as my first console and multiple DS consoles after that. Looking back at both generations of consoles I can definitely see where they had their useful life and place in gaming.
With the 3ds, I think of how in 2018 it's a waning handheld pushing 7 years since launch but as old as it is this console has plenty of life if they wanted to actively develop for it. It was built well enough for another 4 years of games. The regret I have with the 3ds comes with maturity. Being older when buying it and games I expected the consoles library of new games to grow with me and had to come to grips with this not being entirely the case. While I love the 3ds for its quirks, and flaws its been the console of what could have been or should have been.
They also killed the conaole with its poor library at launch and late life library. It always seemed like they had only one or three to five top tier games to choose from in any given year after 2014. If you dont like the series they went for like I did several times you had to sit on your hands. Additionally they missed a ripe chance to reintroduce 2d Metroid until the very end. There could have beem two of those games like Fusion and Zero Mission 15 years ago. Other games which could have been fantastic ports were avoided. Had they been able to bolster their line up better than was done, the 3ds could have beaten the original DS in sales easy. It's superior in every single way except for battery life.
I understand the Switch is probably going to be their sole console going forward. Having a portable home console is almost too close to have a true portable when smartphones are king. But I do not understand the comparison made between phones and handheld systems. Its like comparing a waffle to a strip of bacon. They're both breakfast items but each provide a completely different flavor and level of satisfaction.
And 3 years later. Still alive.
That's 6 or 7 years now. It survived the Switch!!
JOSH IS BACK!!! Also, awesome video. Well worth the wait.
I remember bidding for my first red 3ds on eBay for Animal Crossing. A few months later, Link Between Worlds happened and I needed that special edition. That machine has been through China, Korea, Netherlands, England, France, through the U.S., Comic Con and I love it... then Majora's Mask edition came out...
My 3DS is overall my favorite console of all time, and Samus Returns is my favorite game of all time. I invested countless hours into that device over the course of its lifespan, and continue to this day. I love it so, so much.
Genuinely great episode. Thanks for making this.
I look forward to seeing the inevitable Wii U Fall & Fall episode in the future.
A couple of points, one being that the 2DS was not mentioned at all, which is still a great device for those of us not wanting to shell out the extra cost for a 3DS to play the same games (also great for kids). The other part being that with the new Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer bundle, we have a non-XL *New* 3DS option in the US.
So just a question, knowing how Nintendo is with RUclips and all, have you had any issues with Nintendo claiming your videos or are you on one of their programs?
I love the eight melodies song at the end. nice touch
I wonder if he'll ever make that zelda OOT video ;)
I bought mine both to play the Ghost Recon SRPG and to be the third shoulder button replacement Nintendo portable. Both the original GBA, DS Phat, and DSi all lost the R button. So Phat was traded in towards theDSi and the DSi towards the 3DS.
I personally think that the fact they made xenoblade chronicles 3d for the new 3ds shows it's power more than anything. Taking an over 100 hour JRPG ON THE GO! That's just amazing and mind blowing in my rhes.
I really wish I had a 3DS back when everybody was playing it, but my family was relatively poor for a time. The newest system I owned before the Switch was a Wii, and even that was a hand-me-down. Still, I'm happy for those who did get to experience it. The library is insanely big, it's comparable to its predecessor, which is really saying something.
I have a new 3ds XL now, but I kept my launch 3ds for my nephews and the fact that it looks pretty sexy. Hell they play it more than me.
I got one in May 2012, and I have so many games for it
It's my favorite handheld of all time
great video josh its very rare when i see someone praise the 3ds it and its software are so underated
Somehow I knew you were going to make that & Knuckles joke. It gets me every time
I still love the 3DS
2018: I still play on a 3DS. My most played game?
Terraria: 400 hours
Edit: I am also working through the Shin Megami Tensei games released on the 3DS as well
On your very last point. Agreed. I got my the ocarina of time 3ds and LOVED it. all my gamer friends made fun of me until they started getting them. I moved up to the NEW 3ds xl and i have gotten SO MUCH ENJOYMENT at this VERY powerful handheld system. Having such amazing games to take with you every where. is just amazing.
I bought the original 3ds when it first came out. Every new upgrade I traded in. They made an XL? Got it. The "new" XL came out? Got it. I still have my ambassador games on it. I do wish they would have made gba games available for sale.
I remember getting mine for my 10th birthday. I'm 14 now. I was ecstatic. I've loved Nintendo most of my life. I took this thing everywhere. I got the New 3DS for 2015 Christmas with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. I have most of the best games for the system. Aside from Star for 64 3D and LOZ: OOC.
Had to stop the video midway to express my appreciation for the 'comfy and easy to wear' reference. TOP. NOTCH.
If the New 3DS can emulate a SNES while still running its base OS and firmware in the background, couldn't it also do the same with GBA games? GBA for New 3DS or we riot/wait patiently until the Switch!
You have to keep in mind, the GBA is not simply an SNES. Both have different processors, sound chips, etc. Now, Nintendo could have released GBA VC through the built-in GBA mode, but apparently save states and sleep mode were too important for them to release them that way.
If you are a homebrew user, you can play GBA games this way through injection, but I can see why not everyone is keen on hacking their 3DS.
Nintendo is fully capable of emulating GBA games and just refuse to. Proof in the Metriod Fusion available for Ambassador accounts. It's shameful they don't want all that money.
I wish a lot more games at least let you use the new buttons if you want. I never got to play Xenoblade Chronicles until this and OH MY GOD... I was absolutely blown away by that game.
I got bored with it 2 hours in. Mostly walking around and cutscenes, barely any gameplay. Does it get better?
Fantastic video. I was a bit confused by the title, until what you said at the end. The 3DS is truly an amazing system, and to this day my favourite game console. I still remember the early days, playing the built in software and the Rayman 2 port, the only retail launch game to interest me, due to it being Rayman 2. I remember being wowed by the 3D effect on a demo system at a store near where I live. I remember coming home from school with a package from Amazon on the 30th March 2011 (during the system's first week after launch in Europe) and just being so excited. The Ambassador Programme was a wonderful way to acknowledge and reward those who were with the system since the beginning, and if it weren't for it, I'd never have properly owned the likes of Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda, and I'd never have been properly introduced and interested in Metroid or Yoshi's Island. Even as I type this, my Aqua Blue original 3DS sits near me, always ready for a quick game, or a more invested session. I almost never leave home without it, and it's become almost central to my life as a gamer.
Tl;dr, I love the 3DS, think it's the greatest game console ever made, and this was a great video, easily one of your best in my opinion.
+Ben Edwards Thanks a ton! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Man I loved that thing so much. Used to play it on a bike in the gym. One hour cardio, no boredom at all. I had all those great games, and, sadly, I gave it to my girlfriend. Now she's gone and so is the 3ds. Guys, learn from my mistakes 😢
Your journey with the 3DS is almost a mirror image of mine. 3DS Ambassadors Unite!!!
I bought the system day one as well. I love the system to death. I've played both my 3DS and my New 3DS XL more than any other system I've owned, except for my DS Lite. I played those so much I burned through four of them. And to think I only had Pokemon Diamond, Mario Kart DS, and New Super Mario Bros. for a while.
man i remember the old ds lite. only had like, 1 game for it, but technically i had 2 due to gba support. i had nsmb and sonic advance 2. and still i spent hours on it
What is the background music from 1:30-2:13? It sounds like Together We Ride, but not any version I've heard
Al Bunion I can't quite remember, but it's almost certainly from the Smash 4 soundtrack.
Well done and I totally agree! I OVE my "New" 3DS. I too am a 3DS Ambassador gamer :)
Someone please tell me what is that music at the very beginning? I know I've heard it a million times and I can't put my finger on exactly what it's from. Is it from another game a movie I can't remember...help!
I STILL DONT KNOW
Glad to have you back Josh, I think you need to tone it down a bit on the music, something about the way it was mixed with your voice made it difficult to focus on what you were saying. Maybe it was the selection or just something in editing, but great video otherwise.
I shed a small tear at the Iwata moments. He shall be dearly missed... It really is the best console EVER.
Wouldnt it be the fall and rise of the 3ds?
Yeah really? It started like shit and is still getting new games like the new samus 3ds game coming out in a few days...
He literally says this at the end of the video.
With all the specs and features, the 3DS is the best handheld of all time
Mii StreetPass is the best and most wholesome thing to ever happen to gaming
It's been a while, but it was great to see another video.
I remember getting my 3DS in the mail and being extremely excited, and then it sat unused for months until 3D Land and then all of a sudden there we so many games for it! Now it's just sitting around again but that's mostly just because of me not the system.
At 15:39 why did I see Final Fantasy VIII? Wasn't that PlayStation title? And why was there quick time events during the dancing CG? I'm so confused, was that a minigame within another game?
So glad you are back making videos! I really enjoyed this, particularly as I can relate to a lot of it, having bought a 3DS at launch myself. I will admit that before the system really kicked off, I did think that perhaps it was doomed to fail, but after they started releasing a plethora of first party games and I started noticing that I was getting some StreetPass hits, I knew I had made the right choice buying it. I was a bit surprised you didn't mention the 2DS, but I suppose it's not much different to the standard versions anyway.
+RibShark Yeah, I remember coming back to college after Christmas 2011, and I'd have to clear out my StreetPasses every time I walked through the cafeteria. It was really refreshing.
The 2DS... eh, the video was long enough, y'know? Plus, I've never had one.
I really love my 2ds. I got mine refurbished from Nintendo for $60. it's so amazing to me being able to take smash 4 or Majora's mask with me anywhere I go.
Excellent video dude. Love the Sega Game Gear shot...lol
Super mario 3d land was the game that made me want a 3ds as a kid.
Man I grew up playing Turtle Bridge and Mario vs a Donkey Kong with the two slide out controllers. Makes me love the switch that much more
