I know what you mean, I think with some Nerd reviews the impact lessens when we know its just a joke, if that makes sense. But sometimes it feels like James' natural reaction is coming through too.

No Good: Yeah, I don't hate his nerd persona, but I think especially his "shocked" acting looks so amateurish and stupid. But since I can't act worth sh*t myself, I wouldn't say it is terrible. Just don't expect an oscar anytime soon ;-)
grim tales1: True about the natural reaction coming through, as I said his old videos are very much himself without much of Nerd stuff. And his new ones return to that old style quite nicely. I liked his last ones a lot, mainly for that reason, especially the Paperboy ep.

amen indeed, cheesy doesnt have to mean bad, it just means that they worked with what they had available, it's not like they had millions to spend compared to a movie, also when a movie is cheesy it allows certain aspects to shine brighter, like monster makeup of classic horror movies.
It IS corny and cheesy, but I think that's a big part of what made it so fun to watch. Kinda like the 1960s Batman. I've said many times it's a lot like the Millennial generation's version of that.
Oh Power Rangers is a corny, cheesy bowl of nachos. I just loved the way James said that.

I'd like to see a James & Mike Monday dedicated to Power Rangers games. None of the Power Rangers video games were bad enough to deserve an AVGN episode.
Chishannicon Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue on N64 is pretty bad.
So are the most recent Power Rangers games like Samurai and Megaforce. But those games probably won't be in the episode if James decides to do one for Power Rangers.

Yeah, I was mostly thinking the old ones for SEGA, SNES, and Game Gear. There aren't that many bad games for MMPR, but I definitely believe y'all when you say that there are some bad ones for the subsequent seasons.

James' realization and discoveries resonate almost 100% with me. Because I had a similar thought process, views, and discovery. Like James, I was more into Godzilla and other SciFi monsters, like THEM, War of the Worlds (1953), etc.
Yep, Linkara's restrospective is pretty much THE place to go if you want to get completely caught up on PRs without having to sit and *watch* hours upon hours of PRs episodes. It's popular with his fans for a very good reason.

Yeah. HOPR has been my barometer to figure out which seasons I would bother to go back and watch since as a kid I stopped watching right before Zeo. That's how I ended up seeing Time Force and RPM as an adult.
I loved those vids, i know i couldn't stand allot of the cheese, yet wanted to relive some of that nostalgia, the history series worked wonders there.
"A noob's review" could be a series of reviews that has the potential to be as great as AVGN good job James. Take the nerd to the next level!

Hey James, or anyone reading this, as you already found out, Super Sentai started back in 1975, ...but the cool thing is that they have a reunion type show a think back in 2004 (someone can correct me if I'm off on the date) but in that show, they showed several Rangers, in fact, I believe the American version of Power Rangers, used footage from the show, and thus, made what's called The Legendary Battle or aka The Legendary War. In any case, the best thing I enjoyed, was that the original Red Ranger from 1975, made an appearance, although he's up in age,... still how cool is that?!

Super Sentai kicks ass. I get all excited every time a new movie is released in theaters here. I actually have a friend who is co-writing and performing music for Super Sentai now. When he told me, I marked out like a little kid.

No, his band started last year with Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger. If you watch the most recent stadium shows, his band is performing while each singer takes turns singing their songs. He's the bass player, Toshi Timiri.

I used to watch Machine-Man, a Japanese tokusatsu. It was so cheesy, and sometimes really dumb, but I enjoyed watching that crap! 😆

Demi-Fiend of Time all of the power rangers seasons are on Netflix so after I watched the seasons that cane out after I stopped watching(a Lot of them were awesome) I decided to build my hype for the movie by watching the zordon era(every episode) it was great.... then the trailer came out and my excitement kinda died

this is all Japan's insidious plot to destroy james from the inside out. They get you in with some friendly power rangers, but before you know it, if your will in too weak, you'll be spending you paycheck on pillows of girls who show's name you don't even know and sexy statues of Jason Voorhees. God glomp his soul.
AussieDragoon you realize that power rangers is the American version right? and not the original Japanese Sentai Series?
Seasons 2 and 3 might be the most interesting to analyze for how they were trying _not_ to use the next Sentai.
And the transition from season 1 to season 2 was padded out by a bunch of new monsters filmed just for Power Rangers to splice, so there are only about 42 episodes actually adapting Zyuranger proper.

fun fact. the American version would receive the clips of the rangers fights, and then have to work backwards to create a story which fit the narrative of those scenes for western audiences
I loved Power Rangers as a kid specifically because the giant fights reminded me of Godzilla so it's funny how you mentioned that in your video.

I was the same way; when Power Rangers came out in the 90's, I thought it looked silly. Now I've started watching it with my son and I love it. It is incredibly silly, but it's also incredibly fun.

This is fantastic! I used to watch Power Rangers when I was a little kid. Just recently, I, like you, became curious about it years later after my little nephew started watching the current season. From there, I found Linkara's History of Power Rangers.
Needless to say, I watched all of his HoPR videos, and now I feel caught up.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was originally supposed to end at 40 episodes, but the show was such a massive hit that they went well beyond that number.
That's right.
Yeah, the Ultrazord assault on the moon was supposed to be the final battle, but they had to hastily rewrite it to not be over yet.

I personally grew up most of my toddler years watching power rangers with my dad since he was a massive fan of it in the 90's, the series I remember most are wild force, jungle fury, RPM and the two movies they made about MMPR and Turbo in the 90's
When you get a power rangers review but also a subtle and/or thinly veiled "chronologically confused about" video.
His reaction at the end: Everyone's reaction to every new season singing it *the same exact way over and over and over again.*
This is exactly my experience with the power rangers. Always wrote it off, until one day my son was watching it and i was blown away.
