It's amazing how far tech has come. I distinctly remember playing Mortal Kombat on my Gameboy thinking it was incredible, and now I'm playing MK 11 in 4k on my cellphone with Project Xcloud. It's really incredible to live through all those changes.
The reason Liu Kang's fatality isn't deadly is because of his Shaolin heritage, but in later games, his fatalities were made more gorey to keep with the style.
For me it was when he was talking about the censored fatalities. (8:10) "i dont understand what hes ripping out of them. Maybe its his sweat gland or something?" sounds plain enough but watching it really cracked me up harder than expected.
I usually skip promos, but James delivers his with such skill that I can't even look away. I don't necessarily need or care about the product he's advertising, but boy am I curious to hear what he's got to say.
Loading ruined it. Loading for each round, fatality, and even Shane’s morphs. The Music wasn’t programmed eighth either. Stages have the wrong songs. Genesis version was better in these ways.
I feel like the nerd is slowing evolving from Peewee into Mickey from Peewees Big Adventure... "you know those little do not remove under penalty of law labels they put on mattresses!? Well i CUT one of em off!"
On the Genesis version, the endurance rounds aren't too bad, but Goro is no joke, not even on Very Easy. It's demoralizing to waste continues against him, especially when you're so close to Shang Tsung. I can never past Goro. And yes, I play this game on the Firecore Genesis.
i was young when Mortal Kombat was released on home consoles and I really loved Mortal Kombat. I wanted to get it for Game Boy so bad so that I could play it on the go, it looks like I didn’t miss much.
For my 90's SNES, I only have the following games: Bart's Nightmare, Super Mario World, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat and some basketball game with no cartridge label. I was just happy to have a MK game to play.
Fun fact: if any of you don't remember Mortal Kombat 2 being as difficult as you remember, that because it is! Modern Vintage Gamer went over how the ingame AIs perform harder moves while even skilled players still need to press the buttons in the right order just to do the same.
Liu Lang's fatality is basically a butterfly kick followed by an Uppercut, given some extra oomph thanks to momentum from said kick. It's meant to be non lethal given Kang's initial Shaolin trained restraint from killing, but it can be satisfying to use this move to smash someone into the pit. Makes it at least unique, despite having no shock factor.
I just made a video on this exact topic and you brought up the same exact details yet we reached different conclusions. I think its perfect for speculation since they won't come out and say it.
Scorpion said either line at random in the arcade versions, but since consoles had more limited memory one of the lines gets cut, and the ports from my understanding weren't very consistent on which line got the axe.

"How do these stacks up? Like this!" *Hold them all stacked up with a grin on his face* He knew he made a good one!
Also the look on his face after that when the carts almost fell
It's not a grin, its a frown that looks like he's trying really hard not to smile and laugh at what he's doing.
My favorite episode from 2020. I'm an extreme Mortal Kombat fan. "GET OVER HERE!"
PS: I love how the opening text of MK on Sega Genesis pretty much blatantly tells you that you need to input a code on that screen.
The “You’re Winner” hahaha I love that it makes a come back
Austin
When the nerd drops a new vid, we’re all winner.
I think you mean a KOMBAKK!
You're always winner!
Big Rigs
3:08 Run in the bus screaming "I WANNA BE SEDATED WITH THE GAME BOY"
Now imagine the original music video but with the Ramones just playing with a Game Boy
Why did you put this in my brain
Somebody Must do an edit of that
The "How do they stack up? Like this!" joke made me laugh harder than I expected. Great work as always AVGN
Dad Video Game Nerd
Same here. So simple yet so effective
You know he loved that joke, when it slid he almost let out a dad chuckle
For me it was when he was talking about the censored fatalities. (8:10) "i dont understand what hes ripping out of them. Maybe its his sweat gland or something?" sounds plain enough but watching it really cracked me up harder than expected.
I don't get it
In the Mega Drive port, Sub-Zero has Scorpion's default stance rather than his own. That always irritated me
James: "How sweaty are these fighters?"
Dead or Alive roster: *sweating intensifies*
It would be cool to see AVGN play all kinds of DOA games (and watch his priceless reactions to DOA Xtreme).
@@wchan39 imagine him reacting to the jiggle physics. Maybe he and Mike will get a kick out of it on James and Mike Mondays
DOA Gamer: *nut*
Ryo Hazuki: “Let’s get sweaty.”
Time to play DoA5... 😅 💦
“The Super Nintendo version was censored and sweaty”

What episode
Scart the war
@@crackerjack0349 I think it's an episode about the ESRB rating system
"And Kano....steals your wallet????" 😂😂😂
Should be a relief for people that got their wallets stuck in their bodies
Artificial heart xd..........
and shock kills you :>
Welp...the guy IS a crook.
I had always figured it was his liver and it was made of steel cuz the guy you killed was an alcoholic...true story.
MK12 should have the Nerd as a playable character. Make it happen!
If The Joker can get in he has a chance
......no
MKYA
Nah, MUGEN is always the way.
16:10 Correction: Hardware Limitation, the Game Gear cannot fit the actual size of Goro due to the small screen. That's why.
James cuts a hell of a promo: you believe him, he has his ups and his downs, that intensity...
he is great with his physical charisma
I usually skip promos, but James delivers his with such skill that I can't even look away. I don't necessarily need or care about the product he's advertising, but boy am I curious to hear what he's got to say.
Get him Vince!!!
More importantly, Neon Genesis Evangelion is on James' list. Oh boy, can't wait for a review of that.
Ups and downs 😂
“We are all hopped up on Game Pro magazines” nearly killed me.
Wish i had my copies with ocarina of time strategy guide series. They were fun to read through.
That cracked me up and he's right too. Ahhhh loved the old crazy rumors at school
Mortal Kombat for the Sega CD was perfect! I remember having it as a kid
Loading ruined it. Loading for each round, fatality, and even Shane’s morphs. The Music wasn’t programmed eighth either. Stages have the wrong songs. Genesis version was better in these ways.
Scorpion in 2020: **Puts on Mask** “Stay away and go wash your hands and make sure you do it for 20 seconds!”
Scorpion is already dead, but Sub-Zero's the Chinese ninja warrior, with his heart so cold.
and Subzero in WCW: "You can call me Glacier."
LMFAO.... IT HAS BEGUN.... WELL AGAIN OF COURSE. BE COOL IF THE NEXT MORTAL KOMBAT THEY ADD IN DEADPOOL CHARACTER !
@@bigredaaron1979 good idea.
Wolverine would be nice too.
To me, it looked like Kano stole Cage's Sega Game Gear.
Did you know that Jack Black's PSP was stolen on the set of Nacho Libre?

I see you too, have discovered the way of rebeltaxi.
Does jack mention his psp in an interview or something

"you know those little do not remove under penalty of law labels they put on mattresses!? Well i CUT one of em off!"
"Onnnnnne footlonnnnnnng..."
@@nathanddrews you forgot to wink Mr. Herman also you have a telephone call at the front desk.
On the Genesis version, the endurance rounds aren't too bad, but Goro is no joke, not even on Very Easy. It's demoralizing to waste continues against him, especially when you're so close to Shang Tsung. I can never past Goro. And yes, I play this game on the Firecore Genesis.
its amazing that each new episode of AVGN still get millions of views despite it being over a decade old
Just goes to show how good it was!
spongebob
But was defeated by kpop videos in billion views on it...
Because videos tend to get more views the more time passes, maybe?
How is something new yet over a decade old?
“Kano steals your wallet” cracked me up mate
Definitely not out of character.
He rips your chest hairs off. LOL!
Kano steals your liver!
@Zachary Combs He stole his Game Gear?
I remember going to my older cousin's house and playing. Of course, they gave me the controller that was connected to nothing.
Aw, I feel for you. My childhood memory was my friend getting the GG version in like 94. I never had a damn GG, I was so jealous...
i was young when Mortal Kombat was released on home consoles and I really loved Mortal Kombat. I wanted to get it for Game Boy so bad so that I could play it on the go, it looks like I didn’t miss much.
The nerd looks like an outfitter at a sporting goods store these days.
When did he get a tattoo?
@@NEEDbacon He's had it years!
The Nerd became one with the Big Rigs guy
Remember what the Big Rigs guy said to him in the Earthbound review? "Get some clothes that fit!" That's what the Nerd is doing now. xD
The nerd 2020
i had a friend growing up who had everything in the early 90s. Biggest super soaker, fancy bike, dirt bike, PPV wrestling, and those damn tiger games.
Haha, me too! Rich parents... Ah, I miss the 90's.
He probably has a ps5 and 2022 hellcat wide body Dodge Charger now too
I bet your friend has one BIG tooth too
For my 90's SNES, I only have the following games: Bart's Nightmare, Super Mario World, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat and some basketball game with no cartridge label. I was just happy to have a MK game to play.
Avgn you are the best of the best. Thank you. You are timeless.
"Now, it sucks balls in HD"
My monitor thanks you, it needed the clean up
Neeeerd! The only RUclipsr I’ve used the join feature. I appreciate your content over the last decade man
5:08 -- hold up... LJN got bought out by acclaim? Now I understand the significance of the rainbow in their logo..
adventureoflinkmk2 it all makes sense now.
oh my god
Right fellas?
Yep! The game historian has a video that talks about it, The same video also taught me that Atari owned Tengen.
Acclaim entertainment 5.5/10
LJN 3/10
10:40
Did you just steal his wallet?
Hey! Kano took that guys wallet.
I think he took his wallet.
Now make like a tree and get outta here
@@MLBlue30 *smacks head* "IT'S LEAVE, YOU IDIOT!"
Well in the Castlevania 2 review he did wonder if Kano was really taking someone's wallet when he steals hearts
Back to the Future reference?
one difference i noticed is the snes version has Scorpion yell "C'mere!" while sega has him say, "Get over here!"
Scorpion said either line at random in the arcade versions, but since consoles had more limited memory one of the lines gets cut, and the ports from my understanding weren't very consistent on which line got the axe.
16:56 I'm sure he's joking, but they were trying to sneak them undetected into school, not get rid of them.
