The reason Transformers movies keep making money is NOT because of American's it is the foreign market that goes in droves to see our summer blockbuster fair. American film going is vastly on the decline and largely among males. So studios are more concerned with the overseas market and blockbuster action doesn't require much in the way if translation. "Look out!' "Run!" etc. This is also why most American blockbuster have no big female action leads because FOREIGN AUDIENCES (non English speaking) will not pay to see that.
Ghostbusters 2 is a very underrated sequel. People love to hate sequels. Predator 2 and Robocop 2 are also really good sequels. As good as the originals? Of course not...only James Cameron can make sequels that meet or exceed the originals. Two of my favorite movies, event horizon and pandorum, have less than a 30 for the metacritic score.
"Every time you go see it, they make another. So, stop seeing it" Preach. Thank you so much, people fucking complain about these movies, then go see them. It's insane that no seeing a movie is something you have to say you are doing, but that's the way it is. I salute you.
+Logi Rogi that's bullshit. Go work construction or in a mine. Once you do that you can bitch. I worked construction for 20 years and not once had a female hand in a application. Where are the female sewer workers? Never saw one on a oil rig that wasn't a receptionist! Never saw one building a skyscraper or a dam. Seriously. Pathetic.
I love how James gives the most passive and fair assessment as to why he won't be seeing the new Ghostbusters reboot and these feminazis attack him, his family, and his friends over it. AVGN is coming out of this so far smelling like roses.
+arosisgod365 He had a clause to appear in any Ghostbusters sequels. It was basically a gentleman's agreement that this meant Reitman/Ramis sequels. Sony went and rebooted the whole franchise, and when Murray said he didn't want to cameo in it, Sony intimated that they would move to sue him if he didn't acquiesce.
You gotta admire how James kept his opinion from this movie onto Afterlife. To the point where he never even touched the latter to not come off as a hypocrite. Which is kind of a shame I would like to know what James thought of the latest film. EDIT: Yes, I've seen the Afterlife review and its Great! Glad James came to discuss the film.
basically, they've been trying to make it forever and when it finally comes out its going to be a complete shitfest. but atleast with Duke Em Nukem forever you can still fuck around and have some fun, the reboot looks like complete shit.
I wouldn't have minded Ben Stiller as a Ghostbuster. His voice work in Madagascar and acting in Tropic Thunder showed he was a worthy comedian to be one.
I think Ben Stiller's too goofy ( which he has this stigma around him much like Adam Sandler or Will Ferral have playing goofballs), which is the same problem I have with the new cast. They're too silly and don't have the same personalities as our respectable, deadpan, lovable ghost busters. Having a different set of characters with complete different sets of personalities is one thing but when they say things like: "Hey, you're good at Quantum physics."
After hearing you're description, it saddens me that Ghostbusters 3 was never made. I think the concept of an alternate, hellish Manhattan is very interesting and would have made an awesome movie. Incidentally it reminds me of Earthbound where you travel to an alternate, extremely fucked up town of Fourside.
Ghostbusters 2 is one of the most underrated sequels of all time ! It has a dancing toaster, a man eating bathtub and some of the most quotable dialogue since.... since Ghostbusters !
+Screen Matterial Honestly, the biggest problem with Ghostbusters 2 is the same one Home Alone 2 had, it kept too close to the original formula. Even more so with G2, where it didn't really make sense, like in the trial scene, where the judge says he doesn't believe in ghosts. What rock did he live under during Ghostbusters and after, that he didn't either personally witness the events or at least see on what would most definitely have been a global news event?
No they just flashed a small clip of this video along with clips of other peoples videos bashing the trailer. It was out of context and stupid. Typical CNN bullshit reporting
+L McD The all-male cast wouldn't have been a problem, because that's how the original Ghostbusters was. Heck, the film would've been an *actual* reboot.
+L McD Of course, the script was shit to begin with, the whole all female cast is just a smoke screen. If they had an all male cast or mixed cast, they would have to take the blame for making a shit movie. With this all female "if you dont like you are sexist" bullshit, they can shift blame from their incompetence to the viewers for its failings.
+L McD True. There's a real lack of comedic talent at the moment. I love Will Ferrell and he's arguably the funniest comedy actor around these days but even he hasn't been in any good films for years. I think the last good one was The Other Guys.

If anybody wants to hear why Reitman walked away, check out Mdnight's Edge YT Channel. What you'll discover is shocking. Bill Murray is in this new film yes but SONY threatened to sue him for jerking them around.
The Hellbent script sounds like the movie length version of an episode of The Real Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters ended up in an alternate Manhattan where they were the only non-ghosts, and that Manhattan's version of the Ghostbusters (the Peoplebusters) wanted to bust them. It's called Flip Side, I made Google prove to me I wasn't making this episode up.

Dan Aykroyd chasing Bill Murray to make GHOSTBUSTERS 3? James is right! That movie would be dope! It can have Harold Ramis funeral scene, which finally brings Bill and Dan together. it could have hinted that Harold becomes a ghost maybe? and haunts Bill Murray. And at the end they steal all of copies of the reboot 2016 movie, and dump into an electric arc furnace, just like catching a ghost. While RUclips hate energy is released , Jesse Eisenberg is trying to save all the copies, but gets ripped apart by You tube hate trolls for his role in BvS. And Harold Ramis resurrects, . It would be a movie about "ghost from the past" which this movie franchise has become. Also for some reason Woody Harrelson is in this movie, maybe as magic street performer who is obsessed about ghosts and Bill Murrayl.
+DUKE NUKEM a scene where he shreds the script, mails it, and it appears on his desk like magic XD and Dan starts dressing up as a ghostbuster and showing up at his house XDDD (so he doesnt know if the haunting is real or not.) it writes itself!
+DUKE NUKEM sadly Harold is really dead and therefore unless ghosts were real could not make an appearance. though that would be some real awesome movie making if they did an exorcism and actually summoned his ghost to do the movie.
I wrote this in the video in James's last video and I thought it would be nice to say it again in here: The studio should of used Harold Ramis death's as the main story element for the third film. Like, it takes place years later and the group had a falling out after Ramis's death. Ramis was killed by a demon who took possesson of him during a mission at a rural New York farm. Thats when a relative of Ramis's character (daughter or son who is a lot like Ramis's character) went out through New York city to find Bill Murray (or the character's son), Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson to bring the team back together to fight against the demon that killed Harold Ramis. The demon wants to spread his possession powers to other humans as a way to take over the world so that satan can be brought onto earth. (demon or anti-christ as the villain.)
+KAIZAR Also it'll be funny to have a reality tv ghost hunting show or star (who fakes all of his evidence for his show) going after the demon or anti-christ as well. Just to poke fun at shows like Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters etc.
You know, its sad. Ive been a fan of James from the very start of Cinemassacre. He is easily one of the nicest guys on RUclips. Not only is he a Husband but hes also a Father. Not to mention some one who sets up donations for charities and childrens hospitals. What a shame that one of my favorite youtube icons is being labeled a sexist over a god awful reboot nobody wants to see.
+Blaise Dell Yeah, it's both sad and ridiculous to see these half-ass "journalists" in Indiewire or whatever it is, saying "this sexist RUclips reviewer", as if he were a nobody, and I'm like "dude, do you *even* know who you're talking about?"
+Blaise Dell You forget how the world works at the moment! Women hits man --> man is a wimp Man hits women --> man is sexist rapist who is worst than hitler and so is every otherone because men are all the same.
If I was working on GhostBusters 3 and Bill Murray didn't want to do it I would have still went ahead with the project. Beginning with Pete's funeral (to explain why he is not in it) with the old cast of Ghostbusters after Pete had been killed in action during a Ghostbusters mission. This would make the old Ghostbusters think that they are getting too old for this so would attempt to recruit a new GhostBusters team. Although it would suck if they did kill off Bills character, it would be better than this shit that we are getting...
A video at Midnight's Edge provides even more information on the development hell of Ghostbusters 3. It wasn't just a matter of Aykroyd vs. Murray -- it was also a matter of Amy Pascal vs. Ivan Reitman... Amy Pascal wanted a younger director to do the next movie, and Reitman wanted to direct it himself. They also disagreed about the new cast. You can read about a lot of this in the leaked Sony emails.

One thing you didn't mention about why Ghostbusters 3 didn't happen was the ongoing feud between Bill Murray and Harold Ramis following their fallout after filming "Groundhog Day." Which is pretty much the saddest feud imaginable, considering all the incredible work they'd done together.

Ender Skies That and the fact that he got his power from that river of mood slime that just so happened to be flowing where his painting just so happened to be. His plan was pretty dumb too: Phase 1, give up all these cool ghost powers and move into a baby body. Phase 2, ???. Phase 3, World domination.
+EviltheNub Well I believe he would still have those powers, the thing was he was only alive through the painting. So with a new body to have grow into those powers he could become even stronger.
+Disappointed Turtle There has to be more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking... like what? I don''t know like helping people... like who... I don't know people whom need help.... and so a new story begins...
I honestly think that this foul, disgusting reboot that they dare call Ghostbusters is also pretty stereotypical and sexist... Reason 1 - Kirsten Wiig's character clams herself to be the smartest scientist, however in the next scene, we see her UNABLE TO OPEN A GODAMN DOOR!! Reason 2: Leslie Jones' character is extremely stereotypical with her dialogue, always saying "Aw hell no!" and the joke she makes when nobody catches her off the music stage saying "I don't know if that was a race thing or a lady thing, but I'm mad as hell!" Ghostbusters is dead man...dead...
+Tommy P The door scene was just their hamfisted way of showing that she's just totally so awkward and nerdy. Just like they couldn't subtlely showcase her skills as a scientist through her actions, they had to verbally make sure the audience knows loud and clear she's "the great in her field ever".
+Tommy P The best part of the trailer was Melissa Mcarthy being repeated slapped and the proton pistols. That isn't enough for me to go watch the film though.
Can't agree more. I'm not a movie buff but I've held the opinion for at least the last 6 years that anything that's rebooting a franchise just isn't worth it. The people who are deep into the material will hate it because that original feeling they want isn't there; the content will only be deep enough that they can make hundreds of millions on it; and anyone who isn't familiar with the earlier stuff will, at best, only kinda like it if they don't feel patronized by the cynically thin material. The other factor is social media, which so any people get exposed to before a movie comes out. It's also easy to follow a movie up to the point it hits theaters because marketing is now a round-the-clock effort, and the unintended consequence is people get burnt out and form opinions about what they're expecting to see before they even see it. The only way forward is to create new franchises. Bringing back all the old stuff just means creativity is spinning its tires in mud. The fact that there have been reboots of reboots within only a few years of each other (Spiderman and Hulk, I'm looking at you) tells anyone all they need to know about the absurdity of the lack of creativity in modern movies. It's all about money, and until someone cares about stories rather than hitting an arbitrary box office goal post that's based on Wall Street share prices, movies will only get worse and treat people more and more as dumb mice.
Big trouble with the whole "Stop Seeing It" mantra, is that we as a species have a morbid curiosity. We want to witness the trainwreck, even if it means giving more money to the people who caused it.
+Eric Peterson This is true. But that's why these kinds of things have to be organized around someone or a movement or some kind of philosophical justification to work. Because without a focal point of some kind, then the morbid curiosity takes over for most. So if James' argument becomes that focal point for this film, that's a good thing. Because Hollywood has made WAY too many terrible movies - especially of beloved franchises - for way too long, and the "Stop Seeing them" mantra needs to start somewhere goddamnit.
Balandrus Yeah it could be that Ramis and his wife were friends with Murray's wife and that strained the relationship. It really does explain why we didn't see a Ghostbusters 3 at some point because as James points out, the demand was clearly there.
Dan said the game was the 3rd movie. Bill I'm grateful he did GB II. Also James thank you for your time and patience in doing this. I've been following GB III rumors since 1996 btw.
+Haix They didn't actually watch it, and thought James wasn't watching the movie because he didn't think it would be good. But people were saying that he wasn't going to watch it because it had girls in it.
+Funny MaNn We can barely share our own opinions anymore. Especially when they stray away from cliches. You can't do it without being berated from all angles. Wouldn't matter. Heaps of other people will flock to whatever it is because they don't get the message. Whatever they're watching will make money regardless.
Amen.
People think that a film needs to be Terminator 2 or Empire Strikes Back to say a sequel is any good.
Unlike Predator 2 and Robocop 2, GB2 was terrible, and everyone involved hated it.
Predator 2 was not a good movie
Gremlins 2 and Predator 2 are both pretty good.
I need a Titanic 2
"Every time you go see it, they make another. So, stop seeing it"

According to leaked Sony emails, they basically blackmailed Murray to appear in it.
+arosisgod365
He had a clause to appear in any Ghostbusters sequels. It was basically a gentleman's agreement that this meant Reitman/Ramis sequels. Sony went and rebooted the whole franchise, and when Murray said he didn't want to cameo in it, Sony intimated that they would move to sue him if he didn't acquiesce.
+davenathan2002 They had to force him to do the second one as well.
+davenathan2002 This is nothing new, Sony is the most shitty company in the world, evil pieces of shit.

His idea of a movie ABOUT the attempts of making Ghostbusters III sounds like a better movie than the remake we are getting this year.
And the actual movie is finally coming next year.
We already got that episode of The Critic where he's tasked with writing "Ghostchasers 3" . that was fantastic.
*THIS NEW MOVIE IS NOT A REMAKE !* *It's a CONTINUEATION !*
Yos
"Just because it's not as good, does that mean it's bad?"

Technically we still don't know if it's a remake, reboot, or sequel yet due to how shit the trailers are.
That was clever! Lmao!
I wouldn't have minded Ben Stiller as a Ghostbuster. His voice work in Madagascar and acting in Tropic Thunder showed he was a worthy comedian to be one.
It would have gone over better definitely. A lot of people trust Ben Stiller.
+Stumplestiltskin Mngm That actually sounds awesome.
I think Ben Stiller's too goofy ( which he has this stigma around him much like Adam Sandler or Will Ferral have playing goofballs), which is the same problem I have with the new cast. They're too silly and don't have the same personalities as our respectable, deadpan, lovable ghost busters. Having a different set of characters with complete different sets of personalities is one thing but when they say things like:
"Hey, you're good at Quantum physics."
Ben stiller is fucking hilarious .
After Walter Mitty, I think Stiller can play the part of a nervous, shy nerd pretty well, which could've been his character as the new Ghostbuster.
Sorry you got all the hate dude
+Genisis “Thatman” Lewison Don't be sorry for him, be sorry for these foolish people who selfish for their ideals.

After hearing you're description, it saddens me that Ghostbusters 3 was never made. I think the concept of an alternate, hellish Manhattan is very interesting and would have made an awesome movie. Ghostbusters 2 is one of the most underrated sequels of all time ! It has a dancing toaster, a man eating bathtub and some of the most quotable dialogue since.... since Ghostbusters !
+Screen Matterial Yeah. I really don't understand why it gets so much hate. I think it is one of the best done sequels ever.
i dont know why. they dont know is a kids and adults movie
Ghostbusters 2 was notably lacking in twinkies.
there can be only one big twinkie
+Screen Matterial
Honestly, the biggest problem with Ghostbusters 2 is the same one Home Alone 2 had, it kept too close to the original formula. Even more so with G2, where it didn't really make sense, like in the trial scene, where the judge says he doesn't believe in ghosts. What rock did he live under during Ghostbusters and after, that he didn't either personally witness the events or at least see on what would most definitely have been a global news event?
Holy shit James was just on CNN and they were calling his and his peers backlash sexist and biased

The thumbnail makes James looks like he's a news reporter. It would be cool if he did a gaming/film news show.
If they rebooted it with a totally new all-male cast or a mixed cast I'm pretty sure everyone would be just as pissed off.
+L McD All cast female just icing on the cake.
+L McD Exactly what these people don't get is that even if the movie was half good it would be shit on, just look at Ghostbusters 2 lol

I'd believe it. Sounds like an interesting premise. Your last part there reminded me of when I used to never believe my mom when she said that Underdog's nemesis was Overcat.

Also for some reason Woody Harrelson is in this movie, maybe as magic street performer who is obsessed about ghosts and Bill Murrayl.
why is it movie geniuses are never in Hollywood?
+thewyman55. Because true geniuses don't piggyback and milk off the successes of other movies or other media platforms
+DUKE NUKEM a scene where he shreds the script, mails it, and it appears on his desk like magic XD and Dan starts dressing up as a ghostbuster and showing up at his house XDDD (so he doesnt know if the haunting is real or not.) it writes itself!
can you lend me one of your babes? ...or a gun at least?
+DUKE NUKEM sadly Harold is really dead and therefore unless ghosts were real could not make an appearance. though that would be some real awesome movie making if they did an exorcism and actually summoned his ghost to do the movie.
ghostbusters is feeling the valve syndrome, can't count to three. XD
I wrote this in the video in James's last video and I thought it would be nice to say it again in here:
The studio should of used Harold Ramis death's as the main story element for the third film.
+KAIZAR I think it'd be too soon to do something like that based around his death
Isabelle Rayth It's a better story then the reboot is offering.
+KAIZAR that's really fucking stupid
J Smith What makes you think that this idea is stupid?
You know, its sad. Ive been a fan of James from the very start of Cinemassacre. He is easily one of the nicest guys on RUclips. Not only is he a Husband but hes also a Father. Not to mention some one who sets up donations for charities and childrens hospitals. What a shame that one of my favorite youtube icons is being labeled a sexist over a god awful reboot nobody wants to see.
Alexander H I could not have said it better my self. Very well spoken.
If you are a white male, you are going to be labeled as sexist no matter what you do. Welcome to a new age.

Shadowsega V2 why don't we just find grown-up Dora?
Coming back after Ghostbusters Afterlife to see what predictions were right.
Thanks for the recap and research about what happened with Ghostbusters 3. Your movie knowledge never ceases to amaze me.
James A that is true but, hey, still better than this shit
I Think They Did That With Undertaker In 1995
Bill owns rights in the film. You wouldn't have done it, if he didn't allow it.

After watching this, I am now convinced that we have been trolled by Bill Murray all this time.
One thing you didn't mention about why Ghostbusters 3 didn't happen was the ongoing feud between Bill Murray and Harold Ramis following their fallout after filming "Groundhog Day." Which is pretty much the saddest feud imaginable, considering all the incredible work they'd done together.

I liked the 2nd one as well! I never understood all the hate for that film. The ONLY thing I didn't really like was that Vigo seemed a bit too weak or at least the end battle seemed very low scale compared to Ghozer. (sp?)

"The original 1984 Ghostbusters is heading back to the big screen"
Let's just leave it at that. There is no new Ghostbusters.
Reason 2: Leslie Jones' character is extremely stereotypical with her dialogue, always saying "Aw hell no!" and the joke she makes when nobody catches her off the music stage saying "I don't know if that was a race thing or a lady thing, but I'm mad as hell!"
Ghostbusters is dead man...dead...
Sorry if this comment was too long, I just needed to get this off my chest...
Believe me, it's not the longest comment I've ever seen.
+Tommy P The door scene was just their hamfisted way of showing that she's just totally so awkward and nerdy. Just like they couldn't subtlely showcase her skills as a scientist through her actions, they had to verbally make sure the audience knows loud and clear she's "the great in her field ever".
It's worse than that. Thunderf00t pointed out how they had a incorrect equation on the board.
+Tommy P The best part of the trailer was Melissa Mcarthy being repeated slapped and the proton pistols. That isn't enough for me to go watch the film though.
James must be so pumped for Ghostbusters Afterlife

+Jason Mazur a little dry and very crunchy
Bluergg?
Are you sure Slimer cared more for the catering then the script?
slimer sucks
He threw up all over the script. It wasn't worth eating it.
+Eric Peterson And curiosity killed something I guess.
+Kevin Yonathan Yep, usually it's an hour and a half of my life I'll never get back.
gm Like in 2050?
***** But unfortunately not your brain cells
I think it had more to do with the fallout between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray after Groundhog Day.
+Phil Adams Makes you wonder how one could have a falling out with Harold Ramis. He seemed such a gentle and unassuming man.
+Phil Adams Interesting. That would explain everything. I had never heard that before.

"Fallout"
They've got the heartaches by the number, troubles by the score.
+Don Sulis I think a lot of it had to do with Murray going through a divorce while filming Groundhog Day.
Balandrus Yeah it could be that Ramis and his wife were friends with Murray's wife and that strained the relationship. It really does explain why we didn't see a Ghostbusters 3 at some point because as James points out, the demand was clearly there.
Well, there is a Ghostbusters 3 now. We had the 2 originals. the cartoons and now Afterlife... oh sorry, the cutscens from the Video Game as well.
It wasn't canceled, just postponed, and turned into a very awesome video game
This summer is the fourth story...
Dan said the game was the 3rd movie. Bill I'm grateful he did GB II. Also James thank you for your time and patience in doing this. I've been following GB III rumors since 1996 btw.
Why was everyone so mad at the last video
+Haix Because mahogony.
+Haix They didn't actually watch it, and thought James wasn't watching the movie because he didn't think it would be good. But people were saying that he wasn't going to watch it because it had girls in it.
+Haix Muh soggy knees.
+Funny MaNn We can barely share our own opinions anymore. Especially when they stray away from cliches. You can't do it without being berated from all angles. People want to control what you say because it tickles their booties; It's absolutely absurd.
Can't wait for big brother to come to the rescue. We already have the thought police here to protect us.
Too much logic for some people
let's all follow in the shoes of James don't watch the movie vote with your wallet
+anthony carrillo It worked on Batman V. Superman I saw we keep it going.
Amen to that!
+Jim Dot Beep worked on BvS??? It made over 800 million! Totally worked!
+anthony carrillo
you'll see it on opening day won't you
+tlegg nope
Ghostbusters afterlife is the true Ghostbusters 3
Rewatching this after coming back last night from watching ghostbusters afterlife! And it was amazing!
It was and a beautiful tribute to Harold Ramis! Can't wait to see what James has to say about it!
Loved the ex-lax analogy. It fits this movie PERFECTLY.
Just saw the new trailer. Can't believe they fucked up the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man as well.
Really does suck to see your favorite franchises go down the drain.
It was a long flush down a deep toilet bowl.
It was a long flush down a deep toilet bowl.
Well from the script leak/toys it isn't stay puff.
+karnovrpg Oh, it's not the Marshmallow Man. It's something much, much stupider: it's the ghost from the franchise's logo. Yes, you read that correctly!
+karnovrpg They haven't fucked with Back to the Future ... yet.
Anyone comming back to this while waiting for Ghostbusters Afterlife?
