I think the period thing is cross cultural. I'm african american. I begged my mom to not tell anyone, she was like ok. I got it on a friday night. Saturday morning she called everyone in my family and we went over to my grandma's house to celebrate. I wanted to crawl into a hole, especially when my grandpa asked me how I was feeling. LOL.

I’m white and this happened to me. My family was standing in the hall when I came out of the bathroom and my dad came home from work and hugs me and asks if I’m feeling ok. I think it’s just the way life is.
@@mve6304 My grandma made me my favorite food and cake, my aunt got me a heating pad, my mom got me pads and "period panties". All the women talked to be about not worrying, how to handle pain, and that it was just a part of life. The men just gave me concerned hugs, lol. Looking back on it, it was amazing even if I was embarrassed.

When I first got my period it was during school and at the time I had a really old phone (this was back in like 2011-2012) and the only reason I had a phone was because I’m an only child and my mom wanted to know where I was 24/7 so I’d even bring my phone to school. Next thing you know I hit my mom up while she’s at work, telling her I got my period and she started crying over the phone telling me I’m a woman now. Few years later, she tells me she told her ENTIRE work place that I got my period. It was mad embarrassing when I started working there-
