- Making our new house homely with our makeover on a budget, in our secondhand home. Low spend as it's a rental and finding thrifted, boho, cottage style furniture. Plus an empty apartment tour as we finish up at our previous flat. Then I finally get to the fun parts of making a new house a home. James and I have been thrifting and buying second hand furniture on a small budget. Seeking cottagecore, country cottage style pieces that make it cosy and homey. A fair dose of decluttering, organising, cleaning, decorating, and settling in with our moving house process. Thank you so much for keeping me company in this little corner of RUclips. You are an inspiration to me. Learning to do what i can and accept that! Deal wtih physical health issues fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Best of luck to you. Change is harder as we get older and I pray things improve for you. I suffer from chronic pain and fibromyalgia also . I’m 75 now and even tho I have a pension, if I didn’t have ss I would have to work at something. Keep your light shining bright as dear Wendy says… hugs to you.

I love that you say, "We like to leave a place better than we found it." Me too. My mother always said, "If you can't leave a place better than you found it, at least leave it as good as you found it."
I sincerely hope the landlord is giving you two multiple months of free rent for the amount of labor and value you are adding to their property. It looks lovely. They are very lucky!
So glad you’re settling in. You were so traumatized when the house you wanted didn’t happen. Glad things are flowing now. You look so joyful when you and James are working together, it makes me smile. Praying for your health. At almost 66 (in two days, oh my) I fight chronic autoimmune problems so I know the challenges.

It's lovely that you can hear the owls hooting. There is a tall vintage roof antenna on my rooftop and very often an owl sits on it and hoots at night. It's so calming to listen to his nightly song.

Ooo, an owl. Rarely, have I heard an owl at my home. When I do I invite him to stay and nest. “We have squirrels and chipmunks. You’ll love it here.”

Loving your new home and so impressed with how you left the old one. You and James are beautiful together. As an "older" woman, I must say that I can't believe the way James pitches in. Men in my generation wouldn't be caught dead doing domestic work. Blessings to you both.

I love that you cleaned your little flat to within an inch of its life. And that you're doing the same and more to your new home. We always have to clean new places we move to. Cant understand why so many people leave a place dirty. We have always cleaned our previous homes to an immaculate level before moving out. So far things are looking very homely at your place. I’m part of the OPB crew 😂 Fibro fog, dissociation and executive dysfunction, many pickles to choose from! We moved into a house we bought 18months ago and had to rip out carpets etc because it was filthy. I’m still getting round to painting it all, I’m amazed how you got through the whole house so quickly.
Me too! ADHD and proud of it! Some days I just shut down...and yet there's the hyper-focus. Amazing elasticity of the brain❤
Everything is coming along so well. It's definitely a process. I'm still making my new place "homey" and it's just about 3 years now. You've done a lot but do take breaks and give yourself the honey it needs. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Wowow! First of all you left the last place cleaner than anywhere I’ve ever seen! And then all of the painting and sanding and fixing things before you could even unpack! Beautiful progress and so fun to bring us along. Thank you! I moved into my home six years ago, I was the only one unpacking, and it took me-I kid you not-five months to get the whole kitchen unpacked! I had too much stuff, and got overwhelmed. Just pulled out what I needed and stacked the boxes in a corner. 😂 Your home looks so sweet and it is great to know you’ve got bird song to wake you and hoots to lull you to sleep. ❤

So good to see you two love birds nesting in your new home! So special to hear those owls, and I am blessed to live in a very rural place, where I here those when I go out walking my Madge the black rescue greyhound, in the dark in the evenings now, here in West Devon, England. We are so blessed here to have no light pollution here, so can see the real sky at night, with all the stars. I can even see the satellites some night, going by in the sky! Thank you Wendy - I love your music and seeing the country around you. It's very cold here and all the pipes have seemingly frozen for a few days. People say they're probably broken ! they are not I hope - what's wrong to make me worry? No water for 3 days.
Love the Blackbird in the background! So worth putting out bird food (especially during winter) and you will get so many delights with them coming to eat. Blackbirds also love apples, so put out your apple cores and they will munch them completely away! So many great places to grow veg in your garden too :)

Yes, I too think lighting is everything! I love lamps and candles for ambience lighting, warm light no harsh bright lights but lots of fairy lights. It’s all shaping up in your new home, making it look and feel lovely and cosy, especially now the nights are drawing in earlier. I’m really happy for you that you can hear and be in nature more with a garden and bringing the outside inside with your plant babies.
I’m so thankful for your videos and the fact that you filmed even when not 100% feeling well, is something I’m extra thankful for. I have moved so many times and each time has been exciting but the settling in just takes time. I love nature sounds as well. Makes me think I’m napping in a fairy land. Hugs
Always love your videos Wendy! I think you’re doing a grand job! Moving can be very stressful, especially if dealing with health issues. At one point in my life, I and my family moved 16 times in 17 years. Don’t ask😜 Now I’m 75, can’t imagine even one more move and unfortunately, due to health issues, my house kind of looks like your new digs before unpacking 😳 always look forward to your videos. Appreciate your openness, and willingness to share your journey .

I’ve been back in my home for about 2months and stuff that was taken away to be cleaned ,because of the fire, has been brought back in boxes. Still living in a maze of boxes. I know just how you feel. Stay strong !

Wendy good day, I would like to share my moving method. I have moved house many times. I have bought over thirty house and renovated them then sold for profit some times. But I have lived in all the houses while renovations were happening. My easy method was to put all boxes and small pieces in a room that I didn’t need right away. I would work from there . Then it was easy to take one or two boxes to the room. Unpack them throw away the packaging and then when I was done for the day, at least the house stayed uncluttered and neat.

Ooh! its starting to look cosy, twinkle lights make it magical, I will defiantly get some for our next home (start looking again in April, after our cruise). Anyone moving into the flat should be impressed how spotless it is, pity you had to do so much to your new house but at least your making it your own, dont forget to rest. The last time my family moved house was 14 years ago. Although I was thrilled to be moving into a nicer home, I cried and cried on moving day and the days leading up to it. It was just the feeling of attachment to the space due to all the experiences we'd had there, and having a hard time with change. I've just watched your other video about your landlord, can you tell him he has thousands of viewers seeing you guys and his flat shining brightly. I've moved 19 times and always left my places very clean for the next people to move into and you guys have gone over the top to make it lovely for the next renters. This happened to us in cabins we rented in Europe you could eat off the floors in all the cabins and they tried to hold back a cleaning deposit on all the cabins so you can imagine our shock at them trying to steal from us. my husband to be spoke fluent dutch and his aunts and uncles had the manager walk through each cabin and of course they couldn't defend themselves as it was a shameless scheme to ripe us off. So they offered apologies and gave us our money! it was so unpleasant and all the dutch aunts and uncles were apologizing to me as the Canadian girlfriend saying not all people are like this trying to defend their reputation of fellow kind and honest dutch people! it was all endearing to me that they were apologizing on behalf of their honest unknown fellow men and women. So hang in and see what comes your way! I believe you and James know you've done your best and you know that in your heart. seeing grace in ordinary things will take your focus off the negative and having all of us viewers on your side will lift your hearts knowing we are excited for this new home and new location. love and hugs to you and your body. I've been sick for a few months myself and I'm pushing myself to get stronger and healthier and introduce a new sleeping pattern which will improve my health and sleep repairs our bodies also! yes I will offer myself grace and I will encourage others to have grace and be positive for the ordinary in their lives also! xo lori

I’m working on that tree frog painting that is for my partner’s apartment as his son loves them along with the tortoise painting I already did a while

It all takes time. Just have fun with it. Love the Olivetti Typewriter. My friends Dad used to sell Olivetti products like big copy machines. He used to put them in the big pharmacies and such. You had to put in coins to get your copy made. Us kids used to help count the change.

I've actually been enjoying the "everyday" videos quite a bit. It's always lovely to see you/hear your thoughts, Wendy. Regardless of what the topic or form might be. Hope settling in is going well!
What a fantastic team you both create. Yes a process... an unfolding .. and sometimes we do have to fold our wings and have a rest ... it isnt idleness but a chance to recharge the batteries so to speak,. I am so pleased you have found a next stage place to live and maybe this will inform the next stage of finding your own place... it would be easy to fall into a tempting property that needs an enormous amount of unaffordable work that needs skilled experts ( I speak from experience!!! and listen with my heart to your positivity as I know at my age I MUST make a choice and decision about where I move to next. it's now 20 years connected to France and 18 full time resident! Your home will be cosy soon and the unsorted can be tucked away temporarily as you have a garage . I wish you all the very best for everty happiness and good health... whatever is the problem make sure you get medical support!

You two are amazing. Its such fun to take this ride with you! In America a room can not be called a bedroom if it does not have a closet. I think that is bonkers as you would say. 😁 I think this is a very cozy home. I like the mess of moving in as its so comfortable and feels like a work in progress. Such fun! Go slow and take care of yourselves.
I know I'd be lost without my closets (or, as Wendy says, "cupboards")! Have so much stuff, I don't know where else I could store it! 🙃

I moved into my now husbands house back in 2002. There's still rooms that have same decoration as even I moved in. Little did I realise his total distaste of decorating. He'll say it's because he's colour-blind, well it's the excuse now.
It's lovely seeing how you transform a blank canvas and also recycle wherever possible.

Yes, the fun bits!! I've been dying to see what you do with this. And yes, challenging in a modern house, I've been thinking just that. How will they make this their own, having such warm and whimsical personalities. It's a blank slate. Some wallpaper or murals would be nice, you have the skills for those so very little cost. You can buy paintable wallpaper to be stripped off if and when you leave. The previous landlord should pay you for your cleaning, it looks above and beyond!
I would make the house look like your studio -- or better yet, live in the studio! All those lovely plants, huge windows, floor space, what a wonderful cluttered feeling of creativity!

I have air head moments😜. Things pop in and right out. It’s so aggravating. Your new nest is a great space 🏡. I applaud you both at your cleaning skills. I have always had to clean my new spaces before moving in. IKEA is a dangerous place for my wallet 🤣. James aka Dr. Fix-it, in his lab coat.
