I mean, they were never really scary looking. I don't see much difference here other than color combos. It's a big underdetailed minotaur and a wraith.
It looks like a action-adventure game now. Maybe this is just the scripted prologue and the actual game is going to be a RPG, but I won't keep high hopes. If they chose to show this as the selling point, it is a bad sign already.
I too am curious as to what "other option" that Varric had in mind that he was convinced that he could talk Solas out of it 😂 Maybe if he had conversed more with the merchant's guild instead of ignoring their mail, he could've been a better sweet talker 😂
it's probably a nod to the "we will convince him and save him from himself" final dialogue choice in inquisition. and you can't blame varric for trying, even in a vacuum, because he makes a good point about how people are often just hoping for someone to talk them down, and in the heat of the moment, on that precipice, it can be very different to a philosophical/theoretical talk earlier.

@@jamesgarretson2922He's a fantastic character, and, personally, my favourite in the franchise and probably in media. He reminds me of Astarion in some way, only Dorian is a lot more pleasant and supportive, and does not use his past trauma as a justification for his shitty behaviour. And don't even get me started on a romance, which starts with and is completely build on lies and manipulation (or abuse in his "evil ending" or co-dependence and gaslighting in "good" ending) unlike Dorian, who always threats you with respect and kindness as a partner. And knows what he feels for you, and where you stand as a couple, which gives you more certainty that his feelings are genuine. Even if you don't romance him, once you build a relationship with Dorian he becomes extremely caring of your Inquisitor, especially in the Tresspasser. Now that I think about it, its a shame that Astarion became so popular, while Dorian didn't, because to me, Dorian is the "perfect" Astarion - who is as witty and interesting , but also more pleasant and nice, as a friend or lover. He never needed an MC therapist who needed to "fix" him all the time, becoming his life coach; He just needed a friend to support him, and Dorian was more than willing to do what is right on his own. Demons really been demoted to fodder enemies lol. Pride demons used to be end game monsters, now they're the tutorial boss. Really hate the new direction these games took after 2...
This trailer is the conclusion of Trespasser. Dreadwolf still feels like an entire game went missing inbetween inquisition and this. We missed the entirety of Solas' plan, the buildup to a botched ritual, the remnants of the inquisition doing what they can to find or stop Solas. We don't get Dreadwolf the game, the product that was billed this whole time. Instead we get what looks like it should be the sequel to Dreadwolf post ritual and the fade is torn open. That 10 year gap that's missing is the game most of us were anticipating. Also, this looks like it would have been better staying the multiplayer game it was supposed to be instead of this hackneyed attempt to turn an online game into a single player, story driven one. The irony of this game having issues with identity is not lost in me.
Why write a game around the great antagonist that we have a history with, when we can imprison him in the Fade, replace him with two mediocre cartoonish villains and turn Solas into the Emperor from Baldur's Gate 3? 🤣 Such great potential wasted. I will celebrate on the day Bioware closes and these pigs lose their jobs. 😊
@@4RedJohn they could have plotted the disruption better instead of some conveniently placed, sketchy looking scaffold. Could have had a whole other game devoted to how we're gonna disrupt the ritual without knowing the consequences because Solas will not stop being cryptic during every encounter as we transitioned from inquisitor to rook. A whole game where we assist Dorian in fending off the venatori as he rallies his allies in tevinter. A whole game where we curry favors from Vivienne as she's far off in orlais managing the circles of magic. A whole game reconstructing the wardens, restoring them to their former graces. A whole game where we help Varrick stop the lyrium smuggling into tevinter via the merchants guild. Trap solas in the fade, and start over is somehow what we're getting.
It's because they put that in the comics, dragon age the missing is where the whole search, who neve is and why varic is looking for Solas and why he's calling her the greatest detective he's ever met. I think they seem to have forgotten that lots of people don't read comics anymore so you would have to read that to get more insight into the gap But still doesn't explain some of the other dumb shit like the scaffolding causing a chain reaction and that Solas got trapped in the fade by his own prison lol
Maybe that's part of their dei plan to make the game more inclusive! I guess handicapped players like me are supposed to feel included, now? =) ... Isn't working. I play games to escape real life... also, they're making us cripples out to be bad guys. But it's cool, I can live with that. I'm already the most hated creature on the planet in their eyes simply by being a White, conservative, heterosexual, Christian male. =)
There's a specific reason why they look that way at that time and place in the game. "Busche stated that many of the enemies were designed to look like they have exposed nervous systems, because they were embodiments of raw emotion born from Solas’ tortured emotional state." Source is an article from CBR titled "Dragon Age: The Veilguard Hands-On Demo Impressions - First Hour of Gameplay Breakdown."
Solas, the elven god, the mythical dread wolf, a mage of immesurable talent: ”Yeah this piece of wood should hold this incredibly important statue that is essential to my ritual.”
Well, at least it's consistent with his characterization, Solas was never one to think things through. "Well, my peoples leaders are horrible to them and killed my mommy's physical body so I think I'll cut off our deep connection to the Fade to get rid of them." Thousands of users later "Oh no, removing what our culture was built on led to it's collapse. Guess I'll tear the world apart trying to undo what I did. Oh look, a crazy ancient darkspawn. I think I'll give him this powerful ancient artifact that can destroy the veil"
A bit disappointned. What made Dragon Age unique was that it wasn’t like other games. Veilguard looks too similar to God of War. Is the game open world like Inquisition, or would we be running from A to B like in God of War?
@deliamostert6938 Mission-based like Origins, which is the only positive thing I see about this sequel. Open world games have to be done very well to be compatible with narrative-driven games. I would argue that it's not really even possible, as the freedom inherently takes away from the urgency. A smaller, more concentrated scale is better for the story and replayability.
@@eskael5536 I understand yes, but what made the game unique was the fact that some side quests played a major role on how the main storyline played off. For example the seperate endings for each character in Origins, or even finding certain companions by wandering around. Like Sten in his cage. I liked how your choices mattered, and each playthrough could be different.
@@deliamostert6938 This should be maintained. Like I've said, it's suppose to be like Origins in this regard, and not like Inquisitions. Mission-based (like Origins,) not open-world-ish (like Inquisition.)
A lot of the lead people left, so hopefully how contrived the dialogue and writing is in this is just an outlier and not the bastardization of a lot of creativity and hard work. It's also an early look, so maybe it'll change a bit and not look like such a set piece, but I'm not super hopeful. Also, making a strategy game into an action game is gonna draw in an audience who never played any other DA game and won't know what's going on, or question the writing. Worst thing is that they'll assume that the writing was always bad when it wasn't. DA is one of my favorite worlds, but EA's slow strangling of Bioware's creativity really doesn't bode well for this game.
I doubt this shit will bring any new audience other than die-hard fans who are willing to walk around a messy toilet with "Dragon Age" slapped on top of it, calling it art XD
i mean, Bioware deserve their ass handed to them because of the way they treated their employees and hopefully they will win their legal battle. that said, most of the core team at DAV are veterans all the way back from DAO. So hopefully their work will be in a similar vein. If you want an idea about the tone and themes of the game, read Tevinter Nights. Every trailer, concept art and info they've released matches it perfectly. At worst you'll walk away from it, at best you will have a bunch of theories and spec about what's to come.
@@krasmasov6852 Solas being easily interupted by a statue that was already breaking, and why would that necessarily interrupt anything anyway? Varric thinking he would sway the opinion of Solas with some friendship BS, or even broker a deal. Them struggling to find Solas, needing an investigator, despite him conjuring a massive portal with a rift(any mage could tell where the veil is thin). Solas is an ancient elven god but his ritual is undone by a dwarven scout, a random mage, and some(presumably) human rogue. Of course there's an Eluvian in Tevinter directly where they need to go, unbroken, despite the Eluvians being limited and rare. If Solas didn't want interruptions, he could've broke the Eluvian and prevented anyone from following him like Morrigan did. Solas didn't have any guards, followers, or anyone making sure the ritual would follow through. Demons are of course defending him for some reason despite him stating before that demons are spirits bent against their will, and they are no different than people. Varric also planning to shoot at him despite knowing he is an ancient elven god, and wouldn't die even if he did, and that there's no telling what interrupting him would do. Varric is afraid of magic considering what it did to his brother, so why he be the one to be confronting Solas out of everyone involved with him? @@xVibra Did you play Trespasser? It was a pretty big point that Solas isn't a god and that the Evanuris can be killed like anyone else. Sorry, this is just a pet peeve of mine. (Varric doesn't help by claiming in this footage that he's a god... :/)
I don't think that Bioware "gets" melee combat. It _looks like_ they're still using this weird, pseudo-tab-target system (which worked in Origins but was very off-putting in DA2 & Inquisition). I'm not getting the feeling of hit-boxes connecting here -- your character & their target are just playing static animations while damage numbers flash on screen. It may as well be turn-based for how much your actual inputs seem to matter. I get that "single-player MMO" is the closest thing Dragon Age has to a consistent identity, but if you're going to keep pushing it in this action/RPG direction, then you really need to understand what makes action game combat work. If nothing else, I guess it really makes you appreciate how the DMC's and Soulsbornes make it look so easy.
I really miss the old demon designs. Kind of wondering if this is maybe something explained in game? If it's just an artistic choice then can't say I'm too pleased, it feels very jarring

In the environment designs' defense, Tevinter is a Mage-Oligarchy, basically an Orwellian State but magic-y. That's to say that there's a large amount if it, basically emanating from the location. Magic throughout the series is pretty flashy and bright, so elements of that are carried over; plus you have the whole line of Solas trying to weaken the barrier between The Veil and Thedas itself, amplifying magic seeping in and out. Or it's just a change in design, this game has pretty much had its entire staff replaced twice, save for what, four changes in a Game Director? EA has been fucking Bioware up for years, but also, some of the uber-woke shit is on Bioware itself. All in all, I'm cautiously optimistic, I mostly liked Inquisition, and Origins was/is still my favorite.

Such great potential wasted.
I think they seem to have forgotten that lots of people don't read comics anymore so you would have to read that to get more insight into the gap

Source is an article from CBR titled "Dragon Age: The Veilguard Hands-On Demo Impressions - First Hour of Gameplay Breakdown."
Solas, the elven god, the mythical dread wolf, a mage of immesurable talent: ”Yeah this piece of wood should hold this incredibly important statue that is essential to my ritual.”
Well, at least it's consistent with his characterization, Solas was never one to think things through.
"Well, my peoples leaders are horrible to them and killed my mommy's physical body so I think I'll cut off our deep connection to the Fade to get rid of them."
Thousands of users later "Oh no, removing what our culture was built on led to it's collapse. Guess I'll tear the world apart trying to undo what I did. Oh look, a crazy ancient darkspawn. I think I'll give him this powerful ancient artifact that can destroy the veil"

Millennials storytelling be like
A bit disappointned.
What bad writing are you even talking about?

It may as well be turn-based for how much your actual inputs seem to matter.

I member 🫐
I two
I remember when they spoke and werent a generic unreal store prop. remember when they tried to get you to make a pact with them and only after refusing would they attack? pepperidge farms remembers
I remember when a Pride Demon was so dangerous and entire tower full of mages turned into a shitshow and enslaved almost everybody there along with several other demons to the point where the choice was go into the belly of the beast and face countless monsters and demons to set the mages free, or just say fuck it and burn them all to the ground and try your best to hollow the ground.
They removed the pride demons sex appeal qq
is Varric lost all crossbow upgrages what i found for him?twice?!
Nah bro. You just upgraded the upgrades from the previous game.
😂😂😂
Exactly what I said I'm sick of this crap like how are you going to keep losing all of these good upgrades dude smh hehehehe.
is it even Varric though? Sounds nothing like him based on the voice...
@@travelerwatanabe Varric is being voiced by Brian Bloom, the same VO for DA2 and Inq.
Not still sure I am capable of playing this after BG3
I can since I do like some arpgs the question is whether or not it will be worth my time. I am on the fence on whether or not I want to play it at all
Forspoken 2 never looked better!
Let me guess, all we do is royally f*ck up every precaution Solas did to minimize the damage.
😂
exactly!
Easy guilt tripping the main characters into the plot. Besides Varric ("But he fwiend!") and Neve ("Not in my city, cowboy.")
Yes, we are doing DA3 here, but this time we do the Boom!
Yep.
that venatori barrier was a force to be reckoned with
I know right i mean it took us a whole 1 second to destroy it
Just like barriers in Inquisition 😢
@@GhostInTheCogs now that i think about it those never served any interesting purpose i wonder if they were just there to disguise loading screens or what
putting a boss like that in the start of the game is very bold...
It was the ice mage's barrier. She dropped it after they were dead. It's one of the few aspects that made any sense.
What I see is that (maybe because it is still under development) all the demons resemble each other with those purple lightning thingies hanging on their backs. In all previous DA they were very distinct from each other and had their different power attacks (lust, pride, sloth, hunger, envy, rage, fear, etc.) but now they look alike and even the venatori sorcerers with the over the top cape and hood, look also kind of similar to the enemies.. I don't know... for a company that talks too much about diversity, they seem to be not making any effort in diversifying the demons, enemies and monsters... I own and have played all the previous entries of the franchise several times but I suppose that this one sits as a "wait and see". I need to see more of the story and development to get me wrapped into it. Plus I thought that being the end of the world... the story would be the old inquisitor trying to get back at Solas, maybe with the help of the Champion and the Warden as companions or commanders of troops or whatever... I dont know... I was expecting something else apart from just fighting demons after demons and venatories again and again... let's wait and see
same. Looks like a bit of a mindless slasher, sadly
You really pulled a Sequel Trilogy with this game. They probably fly now
Hasn't Varric been Ginger for like 15 years?
**Edit due to "he aged" replies**
cannon reason his hair is now black is he spent all the Deep Roads expedition money on Just for Men on a drunken bet in Kirkwall.
Can't have gingers in the new world order. Only the other word you can make from those letters.
He couldn't possibly have dyed his hair for a disguise due to likely being world famous by this point.
He dyed his hair, not for a disguise or anything just pure vanity ❤
Well it's been years since Inquisition came out, they probably forgot how he looked like
People also … age.
Anyone kind of not digging the demon redesign?
Looks childish
Looks less intimidating tbh
Yep, strong concerns. I was thinking this is looking like it's more of a linear game. Not open world. Unfortunately that is the case. Vary disappointing
I don't think anyone likes it
No. They look awfull.
That action battle system makes me wanna cry, seriously... I will still play because i love the story of Dragon Age but, oh my god, why?!
Looks a bit like the action from DA2....it was a change from Origins to be sure, lots of people get angry when things don't stay the same, change is our only guarantee and video games are no exception, I can't wait for fall to get here, I'm excited to play this!
This is literally diffrent genre. Looks like a damn spin off not the next installment. It got flashier more and more but at meast pretended to be crpg to some degree. Looks like they stopped pretending and just made crappy hack and slash. It hurts to watch
If we want "button A mashing" gameplay, we already have every Warner Bros movie-licensed game in existence, guys.
Dragon age 2 was button mashing to lol
Not sure I'm a fan of only 3 spell slots for each character. DAI had 8, which was _already_ a downgrade from the 20+ we could have in DAO/DA2.
Truuuuuue. My DAO mage specialized in like 15 categories i had so many slots. Map had an earthquake, lightning storm, ice field and a lil blood magic all at once just bc I could
Remember that you get more as you level up and that they could be toggled to show the other set of spells. Going to guess they'll do similarly here.
@@Missing0o0doesn't matter how many spells you get if you can only use a handful at a time
@@Missing0o0 Apparently it's like Andromeda you get multiple skills but can only use three at a time which if so is incredibly disappointing. Might be on the link to their blog, somebody said in the comments Mike Gamble said this but I'm too lazy to check.
This does seem to be a versatile character class at low level, so maybe the 3 is just for this class and/or a low level thing. I’d think a mage would probably have more than 3 spell slots.
This doesn't look like a dark fantasy rpg
None of the DA games have looked like dark fantasy tbh. I dont know why people keep saying this.
@@ferwindbecause the first game showed one of the main characters backstory as their whole family getting slaughtered (including their 10 year old nephew) by what was supposed to be a family friend. Also if you remember how the Darkspawn are created using females of every race. Pretty dark shit in the beginning games.
@@ferwind Origins was much darker in tone and narrative. This game looks like an action adventure game for the whole family with some rpg light mechanics. AAA story telling has gotten so basic and safe, aside from a few still goated studios.

Sí, ellas realmente deberían.
"looks like they put up a barrier to block the way" he said, before hitting it one time with a sword and proceeding onward
My thoughts exactly. At least in DA:I we had a unique magic hand, so that barrier could be effective against everyone except PC. Here? They could've just used some police tape to the same effect
It's a mighty sword, propably Dagna's creation :D
They cut stuff out for brevity. But, even so, if they didn't, he said they put up a barrier, not that he couldn't take it down easily.
im sure itll be different when we play. theyre on a time crunch here lol
@@LadyAstarionAncunin It even looked like that crystal thing was on the one side of it. Meaning, the barrier was intended to stop things from the other side.
Well here comes the final nail in the dragon age franchises coffin
Why?
@@home3248 storys mid, gameplay looks very generic, characters are gimmicky, and art style is bad. Give us an origins remake like they did resident evil 4

LMAO the Venatori putting up a barrier to block the way... with the crystal to destroy said barrier right there for anyone to destroy.
Oops
A magical barrier!
*poke with a dagger*
Or, it could be a one-way barrier like a latch, trying to contain the conflict?
Hahaha they should have put the crystal on the OTHER side.
@@user-xc2zz1mn3r Contain the conflict of flying, teleporting demons?
What did you do with the demon of pride?
You take his legs and change it into a bedside lamp, apparently.
It look like wow graphics
i had no expectations after inquisition but this is worse than i thought
Five bucks the statues they destroyed were part of Solas's "lets not make this worse than it needs to be" spell
Judging by what looks like two of Corypheus' old running buddies stepping out of the rift, yeah, Rook fucked up.
Prob, but blame it on Elves anyway
@@TheNovakv23 Two of Corypheus's... No.. It was two Elven Gods that came out.
They seem to be the seals keeping the evenuris locked away. Solas was probably able to siphon their magical power while they were locked up. Now that they are free he probably has no plan to tear the veil, and no plan to imprison them again.
Most definitely. Bioware can't make a protagonist who isn't a complete screwup anymore.
seems like the demons went full tron on us.
I think its more the demons maybe straight out of the fade?
I hope that isn't the design ^^;

The gnome shoots with a bow, but the developer didn’t even try to make a quiver; arrows materialize in her hand as soon as she lifts them behind her back....
I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that her bow is magical.
Pretty sure that was not mentioned, it's just a lazy excuse to overlook their laziness. Still hope we can gear the teammates as well, hated that I couldn't in DA 2
@@reverserussianroulette It's literally mentioned in the companion description. If you feel that they should've spelled everything out for you in a trailer then maybe just go pay a game that's more your speed, like Roblox.
