The most interesting part of letting my hair go naturally silvery gray...other people's reactions. I'm astonished of how many people feel the need to tell me that my hair is turning and suggest a "perfect" color for me... 🙄😒. What is with that? I love my hair, and wrinkles I'm getting. I'm good in my own skin!

My naturally blond hair turned platinum which is great, it means I'm done with expensive highlights but folk have to put in their tuppence don't they, my sister-in-law told me that I should go to the hairdressers and chop off my long hair into a nice Bob! Noooo thanks, at 68 I am perfectly happy with the comfort of not having to even think about my hair. 😊

Is the norm in one's 50s? I think I was mid-40s when I got my last period. I never experienced what some women describe as a lot of hot flashes and the like. The only change was irregular periods and sudden very heavy flow that happened unpredictably, but even that was not for long. I had been a vegetarian for many years (still am) and consumed a li5 of soy. I think that did it. The whole hormone replacement therapy and all the things women do when it should be a natural progression.

As an older person (77) my advice would be to ask your parents and other older family members about their lives. They are the keepers of your family's stories and once they are gone the stories fade into the past. I often of things I wished I had asked my mother. My great-great-grandmother was a Native American but I don't know anything about her, not even her tribe. We often take others for granted when we are young.

Hi Jane. I'm also now in pre-menopause, slowly getting grey hair (and I love them since they are sparkling like diamonds). I would love to turn to someone older in my family but sadly there is nobody I could turn to. What you describe is how it should be and I'd love to have some wonderful woman in my family to ask about it. Makes me a bit sad but I'm a pioneer anyway. So I'll be good on my own :) What I love however in the pre-menopause situation is the fact that it doesn't matter what others think about my appearance. Of course I'm not walking around like catweazle in female form 😂but I very much enjoy myself no matter what. The peace of not having that teenage mixture of hormones in my body is indeed very relaxing 🤣

Jane! Such an interesting thing to point out. I am in my early 60's and doing quite an extensive family tree. I love being female, with all the hills and valleys, and Wendy, thank you for providing a safe space to share. I’m 53 and am in menopause. Hello Wendy, I am a breast cancer survivor, I was diagnosed at 45, and the chemotherapy sent me straight into a drug induced menopause. The hot flash’s or flush’s I I called them were horrendous, and lasted quite some years, as I had 6 years of treatment. It brought up great sadness and emotions as I couldn’t have children , although we did adopt 3 children, even so the menopause brought back the pain of all those years trying. I do think that so many didn’t make it, including my Mum and Dad who both died way too early from having cancer. So I know I am so lucky to still be here 19 years later, with my grey hair, a big enormous arm, due to lymphedema, a result from the cancer treatments, but I have a deep appreciation for my life, for nature and my creativity. I am now facing getting older and each day is so precious, I love it! ❤

I noticed that I have followed quite a few women in their late 40s to late 60s on YT. I think I am becoming less scared of aging - though it is still there to some extent - but following women around my age who are doing creative, life-affirming things makes me realize that I continue to have lots to look forward to. I let my hair go gray when I was 46 going on 47 because I had moved into an apartment that was a bit out of my range for a new job. I had to ask for help, and it seemed wrong to ask for help to pay for my hair treatments - and it was becoming obvious that I would need to go every 3-4 weeks to keep up the charade. Of course, I do miss my brunette hair in lots of ways but not that much when I really think about it. I so appreciate you sharing your journey and normalizing talking about aging with its ups and downs. I turned 50 in January 2020 - so I knew something big was happening because I was watching global news - but it wasn't in Ohio (that we knew of). Anyway - something about turning 50 changed me. I no longer had patience for unkind "friends" or shallow relationships. I no longer had time to chase people who didn't make me a priority, and I let go of toxic friends. I have fewer folks to hang out with, but everyday I realize that I enjoy my own company, and I have been quite busy supporting my daughter as she steps into adulthood.

I have no one else to talk to, apart from Madge, my rescue greyhound , but she sleeps for most of the day, so I talk out loud to myself all the time! I have had hot flushes for the past 16 years! I have never taken anything for the menopause. The nurse seems to think that I am still going through the menopause, at almost 67 years young in November?! My hair went white some time ago now, and I have not had my hair coloured for about 17 years - I just let it go grey, and then it went white very quickly, which I was pleased about, as I just leave it alone. That drawing you did of the beautiful girl's head and hair, is soooo beautiful. I love the fact that you love glittery lights, and that you put your Christmas tree up once at the Equinox! It is so lovely to have happy things around us, and Christmas decs and twinkly lights do that for me too, even though I am alone with my dog for Christmas. I put my decs up earlier every year, and maybe I shall follow your lead, lovely Wendy, and put my Christmas tree in my sitting room in November (my Birthday month) and decorate it, to cheer me up! I keep a journal every day, and write it up when I go to bed at night. I really find that it helps me, and is like having someone to talk to about my day. I only go out to walk Madge, and to take the rubbish out, due to my severe anxiety, but I am trying hard to walk a little further towards the village every day (which is only a mile away, but I have not made it there yet) but I get this feeling that I have to turn around, and get back home to my safe place. I take Madge out about 4/5 times for walks though during the day, as I have no garden here, only a little front area, where we can sit out in the sun/shade if we want to, and I have put lots of plants in pots in it, and a few trees. So I make my home my sanctuary, and always say hallow house, when I get back through my front door, and tell the house how much I love it! xxx

I’m 71. I experienced hot flashes of varying levels for 30 years. Come to find out that in 2005 I was diagnosed with Hashimotos an autoimmune disease ( antibodies attack my thyroid) that causes hypothyroidism, low functioning thyroid. This condition also causes hot flashes. I didn’t find out the hypothyroidism was a cause for hot flashes until I was in my 60’s. Consider getting lab work to determine if this is an issue for you. Just had to have a back tooth removed, and I had a gum infection in there - it has taken 3 weeks for the pain to ease, and I have been in a lot of pain! I had a complete panel of labs done to make sure I didn’t have several autoimmune diseases going on because I have chronic fatigue syndrome for the last 3 years. I have to remind myself on a moment to moment basis frequently that I am safe. No one can hurt me anymore to keep my anxiety managed. Our words we speak to ourselves are powerful. My plan was to get in my van and drive out west (America) and camp until my birthday past and then come back home after it was over. But my lovely husband insisted he had a plan for us and he ended up making it my most favorite birthday. He rented a nice hotel and bought a couples painting kit online for us to paint together. (My husband does not have an artistic bone in his body and it looked more like he was scrubbing a dish than painting, but that made me love the thoughtful gesture so much more) No matter what difficulty we face it’s the one ones who love us and walk beside us through the tunnel that make life grand.

Congratulations on your new in-between home.
I agree with everything you said. I will be turning 60 during first of year. Im greatful for another year. I am post menopause and have never taken hormone replacements etc. Just growing older greatfully. I pay more attention to nutrition these days but I don't fret on it. I don't wear make up I dress as I please and I'm not bothered by what people think. I accept that somedays I have more energy and some days none. Im ok with all of growing older and it feels like I'm really living for me the first time in my life. Im happy even with the aches and pains and a few health issues Im alive and Im greatful. I spend most days in my little artroom with my furbabies, dinner with my hubby and sleep with the moon and rise with the day light and greatful for a little bit cooler days. I don't stress about what life throws at us and accept it for what happens happens. I washed my hands of politics for good and leaving it up to the younger generation. Im tired, I just want to paint and thats what I do. I really enjoy your insightful videos. Its nice to see you at your art table again. Best wishes on a smooth move. Hire people because you can only do what you can do. Moving is a stressful job but an exciting one and the finally settling in part is a great reward. Much love.

I love to read novels, paint and bake. I also washed my hand of politics. When COVID happened his changed my whole view on politics and I am done with it. I do not even want to hear others talking about it. If they do I leave the room.

I loved it when I could finally let my hair go naturally white/grey. SO much less hassle. The sleep-broken nights and hot flashes were the biggest challenge for me. The flashes still occur on occasion. Otherwise, yes, energy returned, and was so glad not to have to deal with that visitor every month. 😉 I think creativity is a great fountain of youth, whether you are painting or writing or coaching other creatives. I’m 45 and notice a “change” at 38. I was perimenopausal and now I feel like I’m approaching menopause..my periods are ending and feeling less depressed…the fatigue comes and goes now…I’ve gained weight but now I’m slowly feeling hopeful again. ❤️🙏🏻 Yea, please talk about this topic because I feel many of us are so confused about these horrible symptoms and definitely more about the mental health during menopause.

I'm 40, and I started to get gray hairs when I was 16 years old. I haven't dyed my hair in 10 years because I'm too lazy to do it, and also I like my ~60% gray hair. This was a few weeks ago, but a 30-year-old glanced at me and commented to her boyfriend, "I'm seeing more people dye their hair gray lately." and I missed my chance to say to her "nope, this all natural". I enjoyed my 30s, but I'm looking forward to my 40s.

I also tinker with redesigning jewelry with spirit animals to heighten my empowerment. The jewelry represents more art form than adornment. I created my signature hair style by shaving my head except a curly tuff on my left side, beret style. It’s a grey black swirl. The style emerged from my 2018, craniotomy. My benign brain tumor was removed, leaving half my head shaven. I loved the look and extended the shave around my head. I appreciate all the story sharing your channel creates from sisterhood. I did my thesis on menopause and realised that a majority of information around menopause and perimenopause is the physical symptoms (vasomotor symptoms) however, not much gets mentioned around the psychological or emotional turmoil that women have to go through. Well done using your creating and art for your therapy. Oh, and when you are through the tunnel your energy will increase and you will have a different sense of self, better than before 🙂

Hi there! I had a total hysterectomy at age 47. I went through really tough menopause symptoms for 7 months and then it was all GONE! Not a one of those symptoms came back and I'm on no hormone therapy or any kind of treatment for post menopause, never was. I'm now 68 and SO grateful I went through months of symptoms like my doctor said I would, instead of YEARS of symptoms like she said I would have normally. I had to get a hysterectomy because of extremely heavy periods and clots coming out of me each month, and fibroids. I have to say, having that surgery was one of the best things I ever had done. No more PMS, no more periods! For me it was wonderful once I got past the instant menopause symptoms. So hang in there, it WILL get better even though at times you think it won't, it WILL! Sending you strength, hugs and love ❤

I attended a menopause workshop today, lead by an NHS nurse. I am not going through the menopause as such but the subject interests me. She advised to take four things...magnesium, vitamin d, omega 3 and as much fibre as you can. Menopause is so misunderstood which is crazy. Great video 👏

    • @connorjohnson3192
      @connorjohnson3192 8 месяцев назад

      Hi @donna-elisabeth!
I am not of the medical profession. But I have used magnesium which I found reduces anxiety but it can make your excrement go soft. Maybe it is why the nurse suggested to eat fiber. But you have to know that fiber have only mechanical properties and actually reduces the capacity of your body to absorb vitamins and minerals. As for vitamin d, you can be in trouble if you absorb to much of it, 15 minutes of sunshine is all that is requiered so that your body produces enough of it for the day. I don't know much about omega 3.
I'll recommend you to check with your own physician if you're not already receiving all these nutrients through your food.
What you can do to regulate your mood is to go for walks outside, you can help other which will help you feel that you are contrbuting to something good and will reduce your sense of self-importance.
Watch movies that makes you laugh.

I am 67. Post menopausal. Energy - ha! I let my hair go gray at 59. It looks very pretty - with my blue eyes and fair coloring. One piece of advice - stay physically active. I have gradually lost a sense of balance, don't now how common that is. Calling it sitting too much and not moving enough. The older I get the happier I become. Finally got comfortable 'in my own skin.' I am kinder and more caring towards others, but not so much in tune with the latest fashions whether it be clothing or latest decorating design for your home. I am content to stay home, knit, garden, spend time with friends and loved ones, read and keep learning new things of interest. Hugs to everyone who is going through any hormonal changes. It does get better!

Aloha Wendy - My mother went 'grey' rather young, so in 1st grade I was teased about being adopted. Her hair came in white. So did mine, it started arriving when I was 30. When it comes in, mixed with the original color, there's compliments for how it is evenly distributed and how much people pay for that sort of hair treatment. I dyed it plum rose 30 years ago. It stuck to the white, so that was much fun. I'm always ahead of trends. haha Thanks for sharing your life adventure. Much love to your house hunting. Peace and well-being to all of us. Eliza

Hi Wendy ! I went through perimenopause in my 40's. It was tough emotionally. I handled the hot flushes and had few sleepless nights, and alot of forgetfulness! I even left my husband (we got back together a few years later!!) so, yes, it was something to go through. I learned quite abit about myself at that time. I am in my mid 60's now and still learning! I've gone grey since my 40's, it never bothered me though. All I can say is life goes by so fast!! Let us enjoy each moment doing things that make us happy! Energy-wise I had a year to recover from a devastating back pain-all gone now-but have yet to spring back to my best self. Food affects me mightily, and my stamina is affected by things like sugar, wine, and gluten…so I do my best to eat well. What all my cronies (haha) and I agree is we can still do a LOT, as long as we pace ourselves. I stopped coloring my hair 20 years ago and what a savings! Also hair is so much glossier. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! We would all have done things differently if we had the chance to go back. It is all about the experience of life. Having bi-polar for the past 36 years, having a hysterectomy at 49. Losing my parents and brother within 20 months during that time and ALSO breaking the same ankle TWICE in a 6 month period WITHIN that same time line, made me a much stronger person. I am now EXACTLY who and where I want to be at age 72. I just hope that I don't "pop off" any time soon! 😂 So many things to look forward to, despite such troubles in the world! My menopause happened almost un- noticed. Only when my periods had stopped for over 6 months I realised "hmmm.." & I was delighted. I didn't have children by choice. Now 3 years on, I started intermittant fasting and am back to my perfect weight, I also began yoga, stretching ( just at home ) and swimming. I feel so good. I take bone broth to keep my joints supple. Psychologically, I am in the process of letting go and simplifying, clearing out clothing and household items. Realising I am happier with a lot less and simple stuff. I don't buy clothing or impulse shop now, not bothered about what others think. I let go of people who suck my energy and I meditate now. Just need to downsize my home now to cottage. Looking forward to being older, wiser, simpler and happier 😊

Yay! You're moving in!!! 🎉 So happy for you both! ❤ Hope to see a loooot of the new home videos 😉 As for energy level: for the last 8 years my energy level has been extremely low (I'm 45 now). And I'm learning every single day now to navigate this. Huge challenge. But! Watching your videos immensely helps me to restore balance 😍 and not to judge myself too harshly 😉 And - you haven't not changed a bit! You're still that lovely giggling girl with warm and smiley eyes 🥰 Softest autumnal hugs 💞🍂

Hi….I’m 70 years young and have had pink hair for 30+ years.🥰. Yesterday I dressed in all shades of pink with red patent boots, I loved it. I wear red lipstick💋💋💋💋. Lots of looks, everyone seemed to be wearing grey and beige, boring. I love it, it’s also a great conversation starter. Just be you. 🥰🥰🥰😳

I just turned 56 this month, yes, I'm an October baby. LOL I am in menopause and in a way it is good where you don't have to deal with the menstrual cycles but it is challenging to deal with symptoms of menopause like the hot flushes. I am embracing the growing older but wish I had more energy. I think being who I am and as you say, I am enough, and taking care of yourself helps to accept growing old part. It is a journey we are going through and still learning. Thanks for this talk Wendy. Keeping the light shining bright. ❤

Oh lovely Wendy,🧚 I forgot to comment about the lack of energy. I really don’t get a lot of sleep, so my energy is usually very low. As I mentioned in my other comment I’m 60 years old. I used to love going to spin cycle classes 🚴‍♀️and now I have to make myself go. I was type two diabetic in 2016 and lost over 70 pounds thru a healthy lifestyle, so it’s My WHY and why I need to keep movement in my life. 👟👟 I actually bought a walking cane yesterday. I don’t need one on a daily basis, but I do deal with inflammation and swelling in my knees to where I can’t bend my left knee. So it’s just for when I need it. Embracing the New Me with Love & Kindness. You can ask me anything if you want to darling. 💛🦋🍂

I don’t dye my hair, wear makeup or even wear a bra anymore! I just layer my clothes! This all happened during lockdown. I started to feel so free, not having to do all of the social expectations! I wear my hair in a ponytail now and love it! My kids prefer the natural me and so do I. I’m 61 yet I have never felt younger…go figure?🥰🌻🍁🧚🍂🌾🍄😊

Hello Wendy. I'm in my 50s as well, and my doctor says I'm post-menopausal now. I've recently separated from my husband, who has been stifling my creativity since I met him almost five years ago. I shouldn't have let that happen, but I'm really looking forward to getting settled into my new home and finding me again. My energy levels have been up and down over the years...mostly down lately because of stress, but I've decided to be gentle with myself. Take a nap when I feel I need one or walk my pup when I'm feeling low. The autumn weather was beautiful today, a bit rainy with all the colorful leaves in contrast to the dark blue grey sky. My favorite season really. Thank you for bringing your whimsical personality to the internet. You are a joy and an inspiration to watch. 🤍

I turned 54 November 1st. Like a lot of women I'm dealing with fibroids while going through my premenopause/menopause journey. I've gotten a clean bill of health for my lady bits and bone density. I'm currently getting Lupron injections that are helping shrink my fibroids. I've never been a morning person who jumps out of bed rushing around to get the day started. I'm more leisurely about my mornings. Even more so with menopause. There are times when I ask my husband to let me know of plans the day before so I can prepare by taking a melatonin gummy and getting in bed early for hopes of a good nights sleep. Then I give myself enough time to have a leisure morning. All part of self care. Energy does return🤗
It's amazing how the mind tends to go back to things in the past during this time in life. Things that you think are in the past pop into your head out of no where taking up space in your thoughts. It's quite frustrating. And why do people think I care what they think about my hair! LOL! I've never really been into my hair. I'm going grey and loving it! I was going to cut it all off but decided to chopped off the sides and back leaving the top to grow long.

I'm 54 and still have a clockwork cycle, nothing has really changed as yet...but it's so encouraging to hear everyone talking about their journey through the change. We just don't hear this stuff talked about enough. Thank you lovelies for sharing your wisdom. ❤

After having horrendous cycles that left me anemic and exhausted and had to have iron infusions, I'm relieved it's over. The hot flashes and insomnia aren't fun, but I know it's temporary. I am grateful to be aging and I'm wholeheartedly looking forward to what's ahead. In many ways I feel like I'm just getting started.

Beautiful Wendy, so blessed to wake to you this morning. So much love to you! ✨
Edit: I started menopause during cancer at 41, and am now 52. Turning 50 was the best thing ever!
As a child, I always imagined myself as an "old" woman with long long hair, skirts with bells at the hem, and growing food, being creative and living my truest life. And yes, no hair dye anymore!
Happier than I've ever been, but you're correct Wendy, whenever one feels they've mentally finished a topic in life, it sneaks back in for more processing. I sit with those things much better now, as I have more Patience with myself than I ever have.
Being invisible (something most women lament) I am enjoying fully!
    More love to you, Wendy!!!❤

Love you talking about ageing. I'm not 74 n I had energy to throw away till I hit 70 n got arthritis! I can totally understand the ENERGY PROBLEM! I have to do everything when I get a burst then sit when it wears off! I feel such empathy with you and all my friends on here. God bless n carry on it needs to be talked about. We women understand in what is still largely mans world , and, bless how can they empathise. I used to long for a coffee just made for me by my late hubby, but, he never understood those little things that mean so much when your moods n energy levels are all over the place. Ps he was kind but he just didn't get it! Xxxx

52 yrs young here, menopause for me has been a rollercoaster. Peri was depression, not knowing who I was or why I was on this planet. Things I loved to do didn't bring me joy anymore and I felt like I was in a fog most days. Now I am in pre-menopause I guess, and I've found new creativity, new zest most days. Still have some depressing days, low energy and I just want to sleep. But the energy days are like I am in my twenties again...the highs are high and the lows are low. The menstrual part is like a jack in the box for lack of better terms and I am so ready for it to just be GONE! 😂
I have not dyed my hair in 3 years now and I watch the tinsel as I call it start to shine more and more like glitter randomly pop up. I am hoping that the thinning changes and starts to grow back. I don't care if it grows back all silver...just be there!
I used to be an extrovert when younger but as I've grown older I've become more of an introvert. And surprisingly, I don't mind it. I enjoy being with myself as I've learned a lot about me during the alone times. (I am married, however, I work from home)
I myself used to worry about how others view me, and I still do occasionally, but I am learning to release those worries and realize that others opinions of me are their business not mine.
At the end of the day, their thoughts of me, do not inhibit my growth or my journey.
There is a sense of freedom when you look at it that way.
And isn't that what menopause for women is really?
The release of the burdens that we had to endure, to shed the past parts of us that no longer suit our needs for the rest of our journey, to reach the other side of this shedding to our feminine freedom?
I like to look at it that way, as it keeps my mind focused on the other side of all this shedding chaos lol
I thank you for talking about menopause, some of us have no one to talk to about it and it's such a relief knowing that we aren't alone in this journey.
    Blessings to you!

Hi Wendy, I’m not sure if my chronic health issues and medications have had an impact, but I’m two years into menopause after about ten years of peri menopause, and my experience has been dreadful. Nobody told me about menopause and I’ve suffered terribly through it, and still am, both physically and mentally. At one point I was having hot flashes every half an hour, but now it’s probably every hour. The main impact of this has been on my sleep, and without good sleep, everything tends to fall apart. At 55 now, I can honestly say that I completely understand what you’re saying about changes in how you think. I don’t care what people think of me anymore, and I’ve stopped allowing people to treat me badly. I still don’t like the grey hair, but it’s more about the change in hair texture than colour. I find that hair dye makes my hair “behave”, but I’m sure I’ll get to the point where I don’t care about that anymore either. I’m really not enjoying menopause brain though, forgetting words and struggling to make decisions etc has become a real source of frustration, and is it just me, or do others drop things a lot more? I’m really clumsy now.

@Sharon_L, it's a little thing, but neutral henna will make your hair behave and not change the colour. My new waves are annoying as my hair never sits well and does the Barbie flip now that I'm growing it out again. I feel your pain at lack if sleep too. 💗

Try to find some HRT. There's a lot of mythology about going through the menopause "naturally" and a lot of misinformation about hormones. Look up Dr. Louise Newson, or Menopause Barbie here on RUclips. You really don't have to suffer like this.

It’s so reassuring to read all these comments- it’s certainly not talked about enough , I’m 55 and abruptly started the menopause after having cancer treatment age 43, and feel like I have been going through it all twice , as I reached the age where it would have started more naturally.... but now realising that many woman go through it for years.... I wish I’d been kinder to myself earlier on , now finally feel like I can relax more into the process, and there are glimmers of silvery light through the difficult times ....💕💕
