  • The Groundbreaking S&S Axis coaster looks awesome! When will we see one come to the US.

S&S should worry about fixing the Steel Curtain. Don't nobody want to buy your product when it's consistently unreliable.

TBF that was because Kennywood/Palace wanted Curtain to be as cheap as possible. Though TBF S&S should have not obliged.

There are actually 3 of these coming to the same chain of FECs in Saudi Arabia called SEVEN. The other two were confirmed in a Blooloop article and they both have a unique layout as one will have a lift hill and the other will have a triple launch (probably a swing launch).
How reliable and good these rides end up being will probably determine the model’s future but even then I don’t see too many more of these getting built since they seem catered to FECs and small parks who probably can’t afford or aren’t willing to pay the price to get one.
The SEVEN FECs in Saudi Arabia are government funded and have a lot more money to play around with which is why they can buy the Axis.

to be fair its likely there reputation with S&S may be damaged Dont forget or leave out Palace Entertainment/Parque Rundios

Palace did that to themselves they requested it to be cheap they got what they paid for. A motor too weak to pull up the trains (this is apparently the main cause of downtime), weak superstructure that needs new expensive bolts and a slew of other issues is all on palace for requesting it cheaper every time they got a revision. Maxx force is operating as well as predicted and is not facing the same issues steel curtain is, cause it was built without cheaping out at every possible angle.

I think the main reason we haven't seen one at a Six Flags park is largely because of the current deemphasis of coasters in the chain as they try to revamp their parks toward families and go up market. Cedar Fair's recent attraction strategy is a similarly poor fit for the axis - their big dollar additions have been reliable, capacity-monster B&Ms (and a Mack) and their other additions have been too low budget and/or not coaster-centric.
I think you *could* be on to something with the Busch/Sea parks, particularly either SWSA or SWSD. San Diego seems like a particularly good fit since it seems like the axis model is very malleable to small heights and footprints while still allowing for a fun and thrilling ride.
Depending on the price tag I could also see Fun Spot or IB Parks & Entertainment picking up a compact model for one of their parks. These parks are less concerned with large crowds - which reduces the concerns w.r.t. capacity. Both small chains also have a relationship with S&S already.
Among the Hershend parks I actually think Kentucky Kingdom would be the most likely to get the first axis in the chain. Like SWSD and SWSA they have a height restriction (due to the nearby airport) and they just removed T3 - so they have a reasonable spot for it.

But why does it have a low capacity? The train does look a little short, perhaps? Really hope they can figure it out because they look amazing and GAWD I hope Kings Island is a future location!!

I think he's basing his riders per hour on the one being built. However, that's very unfair as it's a single, shorter train with a double circuit.
I don't see how a multi train larger ride doesn't have a similar capacity to anything else with 24 riders per train.

Would you count the seat of an Axis spinning around all the way round as an inversion? If so, an axis coaster could definitely beat the smilers inversion record.

Put a launched S&S Axis at Over Georgia and it'll be a huge hit for the park and possibly for the rest of the SF parks who wants one

I bet track stress is a significant challenge with this one. Besides the actual physical space needed for the rotating cars, the overall weight of a more regular sized train to help with capacity certainly must be an engineering issue because of the stress on the sections of track that do rolls on the outside. I don't know what the proper physics or coaster engineering terms to describe what I'm saying. I'm actually a scientist but I'm a zoologist. Torsion stress? Not sure. Sort of the same issues that traditional suspended roller coasters tend to have.

I think the concept really only works with small rides like the Transformer ride they're rebuilding. It doesn't have the capacity for a large ride unless they make it 4 person cars. Or 3 person cars. You can also theme the small coasters and they'd fit the budget and spacing available to most parks. Be more of a shuttle coaster or family thrill coaster kind of thing.

The only reason I don’t want one at Busch Williamsburg is the last few coasters have had lower capacity and the last thing we need is ANOTHER low capacity coaster.
