I think the Chloe example is of bullying because she was autistic, perhaps because her video mentions 'autistic joy', when this would be perfectly acceptable behaviour for thousands of neurotypicals - jumping up and down, cheering, clapping, shouting, etc - at a sports event for instance.

I used to do a ridiculous dance when feeling happy and joyous, it delighted my NT ex, I would only do it around her. She called it the pixie dance. I have never done it anywhere else, if illicited the same happy reaction she had, then I would, but I know the world isn't ready for unbridled joy. Lol.

So true.. I intentionally defy those norms and lean into my “childish” interests as I age. It’s been highly beneficial to my mental health!
I often gift plushies (found or handmade) to friends, especially those I don’t see offering themselves a lot of creature comforts.
And because I don’t always have spoons to hang out in person, it’s like a physical representation of my care is still available for a little snuggle if they need it. 💜

@@rainbo777 that’s so kind of you! Handmade - how lovely. ☺️ I agree on the defiance of the harmful norms - and I think there is something in that… about aging/maturing maybe. Less to loose, maybe. Or wanting to set an example for one, or more people that it’s okay. Critical thinking and questioning - is a good thing. I wish I didn’t lose my other stuffed toys though! But duck is a survivor! Haha. -Mike

7:50 recently got a diagnosis for autism. I'm going to be telling my parents tonight and my mind is spinning thinking of how they might just say
"You don't look autistic" or "you're just being lazy."
I get on very well with them. ❤
But With a doctor's diagnosis after seeking out one for adult autism I feel far more confident.
Always felt something wasn't quite right the way my mind works. The classic eye difficulty holding eye contact has always been there. I'm proud to finally get an understanding I'm not just lazy.

I love my noise cancelling earbuds, if i go to the grocery store when there is a lot of people i can just pop them in and relax, i don't need music or anything just dampening the noise around me is a huge help! I also got myself some nice "indoor sunglasses" as my optician call them, a light brown to tone down the bright lights inside but not so much i cant see shit, and i got a pair of really dark brown sunglasses for summer time! And i am going to be a chronic cap or hat wearer in summer lol!
I'm glad that today it is normal to have earbuds in when shopping or sunglasses on when inside, it more acceptable, and its nice.
I have maybe about 50+ plushies, my partner who is not at the moment diagnosed with anything (we are some suspecting ADD) has been my greatest supporter, and even made personalities for all my plushies, when I'm sad he comes in with one of them, telling me that they are worried and want to be near me, and it helps a lot.. Most of my previous partners accepted it as a part of my personality and as a fun and childish quirk i had, but no one have ever accepted and embraced it like my current partner and i really love him for understanding and even adopting it haha! He too loves our plushies as much as i do, during Corona, we sat every plush at the table with us, and gave some of them party hats on, it is among the best memories we have

Now I'm thinking of just keeping it to myself because does anyone really need to know?

Yeah, for masking, I was told recently that based on what they read, that I'm being fake. It doesn't feel great. I'm not sure how to explain it. I guess that is depending on if they like me for the way I carry myself vs. the content of what I am, my beliefs, my character. But I suppose a person is a combination of the 2 and it's hard to separate those two. Masking tends to separate those things and perhaps certain special interests as well that are seen as not cool by society and we automatically teach ourselves who will accept us for those things and who won't. So, I'd say we have various levels of mask customized for each person. When there are multiple people in the room, that can get really complicated and there are cracks in the mask.

I also have a teddy bear that I've had all my life. I'm afraid to tell people about it not because of a fear of rejection or ridicule, but because I am so afraid of someone damaging or destroying it. I'm 35, big strong guy, lots of tattoos, bald, and according to other people fairly scary looking. The contrast of me with my tiny purple and orange teddy is so obviously funny that I honestly don't take offence, I join inn on the laughter. But I've never told anyone how scared I am of losing it, because I can't handle *that* type of ridicule

20:09 My PC started failing to update Windows in 2019. I can't tell you the number of days I spent researching the issue and trying out solutions others had posted, without having to save everything and try a factory reset. I finally solved it in Autumn last year. Can't even remember what it was now!

This is me but Excel. I had no experience with it, but I wanted to understand how much money I made when I was working two different part-time jobs right after university and one of them had extra pay depending on how late into the day it was so it was a nightmare trying to do it manually. Then I realized I could transfer some of that knowledge into making sense of some of the games I played, so I spent days making sheets for them as well. Now I work as a project manager with a lot of economic responsibility and suddenly all of that Excel knowledge is incredibly useful to have acquired, as I probably know more about Excel than anyone in my office 😂

Thank you so much for mentioning rice.. I always forget to put my rice away.
I'm literally here in bed trying to fall asleep. And you reminded me to put my rice away 😂 and it would have been like.. 5 cups of wasted rice. ❤❤❤
I've moved around quite a lot. Within my home county of the US I've moved cross country 5 times. And I've lived in two other counties. I do enjoy travel. But it's very tiring
Sometimes it'll be 4pm. And I'll suddenly realize inhsvent had any water or anything to eat 😅 oops?
Also, I've noticed lately that even the autistic community is getting worse about accepting Self dx. A lot of people that bullied that one girl off social media were ND. And it's pretty worrying.

Moving about seems contrary to the autistic craving for familiarity. But many of us do this, I wonder why. Tiring, yep.
      WATER REMINDER 🙂
I've noticed this too. I've had some anger directed at me along these lines. I wonder what is so upsetting about someone else self-identifying. It doesn't change my identification/dx one bit.

UK's the same - zero legal rights to access certain supports without the paperwork. And even with the paperwork, there can be challenges, too - depending on the registration status of the clinicians, etc. It's all very disjointed, and as you say - basically no adequate support for adult autistics/AuDHDers, anywhere.

I mean, it makes sense in its way, of course, but... are you familiar with the eugenic notions and other problematic factors of Asperger? I tend to prefer to avoid that term (in any of its forms) for that reason. Up to you to choose your language, of course, but wanted to make sure you were aware that such associations exist, and that you may invoke an aversive response from that.
