🌟 Welcome to Autistic AF 🌟
I'm Mike, a late-diagnosed Autistic person.
I received a diagnosis of "Autism Spectrum Disorder" (ASD) at 42. While the diagnosis may be new, the reality is not; I've been neurodiverse my entire life. Autism isn't something you catch or a condition to be cured-it's a different way of experiencing the world, hardwired from birth.
Having navigated life through this unique lens for over 40 years, I'm eager to share my insights and experiences. My aim is to offer valuable perspectives to both the neurodiverse community and those who are neurotypical. (Edit: Isn’t that *everyone*?)
On this channel, we'll delve into the nuances of autism, exploring the distinct ways it shapes our interactions, emotions, and daily lives.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy these videos,
Mike x

What's REALLY Going on with Autism, IQ and Intellectual Disabilities?
Просмотров 40 тыс.28 дней назад
There is an idea that learning disability (intellectual disabilities) are as common as occurring in half of all autistic people. This idea has been promoted by Mencap, a UK Learning Disability charity, and shared by British governmental organisations such as local councils and the CQC (Care Quality Commission). Within the United States, Why is this? And how do learning disabilities correlate wi...

Viscerally upset about the post suggesting that a child lining up their toys is disordered behavior and you should just keep thwarting them in their aims/enjoyment ☹️ HHHATE
23:22 I never understood that. What connects autism awareness with national flag of Mauritius? Maybe designers are just proud patriots of their country (for those, who don’t know - here’s flag of Mauritius -> 🇲🇺 <-)
I had a great-uncle that decided he didn't like being around people, and permanently moved into the woods. His sister would bring him groceries, phone messages, and mail at agreed upon times (so he didn't have to go into town). It was a solid plan.
My favorite reply to "how are you?" is "sleepy". Solidarity with all my working class folks, and assholes tend to just shut up.
19:02 me: “oh, did I have challenges expanding my play skills??……” Mike: “f off, [lining up your toys] doesn’t mean that!” Me: 😅phew
We have a cheery (slightly manic) answerphone message my daughter recorded ages ago: "Hello, you've reached the sprite that lives in our telephone. There's nobody who can answer your call right now, but please _do_ leave a message, because I love to pass them on!" My reasoning (when I'm in) is, if they can't be bothered to leave a message I'm definitely not going to answer; if they do I'll consider it. Every week or two we'll check the messages to see if there's anything important.
I wear the sunflower lanyard when I fly because I know that my autistic traits can make me read as "suspicious" to security, especially since I stim more in high stress situations. I don't know if it helps but the last times I've flown I went through security without any problems.
I've never seen your work before. I have a metric. If I get to the end of your video and think "awww, it's over!" then you don't get just a thumbs up, you get a subscription. That content was brilliant!
19:58 This! And by the way, I always thought that Piglet is some kind of rag doll, but that thing on him is supposed to be a jumper? Oops...
So you better get ad bucks for this vid - I was washing dishes and one of those, “I’m a doctor and I’ll tell you the secret for (fixing/curing/reducing) X, if you just stick with me” ads came on. So I let it run, because doing dishes, but 20 minutes later that ‘doctor’ (who was not like those social influencers who don’t have medical degrees, I’ll have you know) did manage to tell me about their self-medically tested cream (as you know that is the scientific method all cool docs use: make cream, test on self, yes is good! Sell! Miracle cure accomplished!), but had not managed to finish talking about the horrors of - dark spots - and so I had to turn it off. Still, at the very least you are getting this comment, which will hopefully help boost the vid. Also, well listening I couldn’t help thinking in a world without autism there would not only be a noticeable lack of interesting collections, but I also imagine the section of the store with miracle creams, like the one I ‘learned’ about would be just as large, but hopelessly disorganized. In fact, would the store even have sections? Products definitely wouldn’t be in lines. Perhaps we would just throw them all in the bin.
The internet ate my comment. In regards to the brain dopamine and serotonin machine being broke, it reminded me of my friend, that during a mathematics exam she burst out into song. She sung: The Internet is for Porn. Realized she sung it out loud, she just giggled and smiled and continued her exam, but her brain would not let the song go. Her brain kept up the entire exam. She has such a charming personality to be able to do that. No idea what the other exam classmates felt our thought of her little serenade. As for BG3, I love rangers and druids. I tried to start a dark urges campaign, with Asterion. I could not take it and gave up by the time I got to the Druid Enclave. One of my first obsessive interests was Winnie the Pooh and I have a little collection of plushies, books in English and Danish. I had a bigger collection before I moved form the US to the EU.
5:29 Oh, hey! I'm on year 8 of my 3 year retreat into the woods, so where does that put me? 😁 I will not go back! They can't make me. ☺️
wtf indeed... do the jewish pupils get ones with a star of david?
I only recently realized how many people I probably freaked out in high school because I was told that not making eye contact is rude. So I was just over here basically staring people down in the hallways while smiling to show I'm friendly. I probably looked like I should have been in that Smile movie 🤦🏼♀️
Can I please have some advice on how to start a fish family with one live fish? Thanks. I enjoyed the video. Rob
Bullying in school ruined my mental health for life.
Oh hey, the Lawtism car! 🤣
So, my perspective on this based on myself. Autism loves freedom just as much as routine. My autism loves to follow my minds eye to be free to do whatever my thoughts choose. My perspective also includes our thoughts, which have some autonomy and needs to be free to choose. I find a balance between the 2 makes a huge difference in mental well-being. The most important thing I also have to do is stim regularly physical and vocal stims. Adding music to my focal points of routines allows better focus, such as while cooking allows more focus on that task and better results. Self-acceptance was my biggest hurdle, but I have prevailed. Perspective of our "abilities" is key, our abilities can be honed to our benefit and well-being. I am researching a different perspective of our traits and traits of adhd. What I'm achieving for myself is huge. I would also like to add that many of us who are also empath can hone those traits to our benefit as well. Wr have great abilities and we only need to relearn these traits that are being hidden and blocked. Humanity is becoming a lost art.👻🤪🌶🤘😎♾️
Can't stop thinking about Piglet now.
Yeah, I have RSD. I'm sorry. I'll go. 🤣
Unfortunately sometimes a text or an email simply won't do - like in case of emergency. I used to struggle incredibly with phonecalls, but through practice things have gotten easier for me (though it'll never be effortless)
My mom was happy i got my other diagnosis removed, but she was worried about the Autism label, she constantly said in the beginning that "oh but labels aren't helpful" and "The label doesn't define you".. Well in Denmark we have free healthcare, but if i am to get help with my Autism i NEED the diagnosis or there is no help.. We have a great welfare system that helps people who cant work too, again here i actually NEEDED the diagnosis to help my case, otherwise i would have been asked to work small hours, something that we had found out by trying it out for 2 years, was unfortunately draining me too much. Today my mom uses the label, she found its easier to say "oh my daughter has Autism, she is so intelligent, but the energy just isn't there" instead of explaining that i cant work due to mental and physical health reasons that are beyond her comprehension. She also accepts how Im feeling even though she cant understand it :) So the label does work, it just needs time <3
My partner who works in IT worked at a job where overtime where quite normal in the end of a sprint (its was every fucking sprint *sigh*) but the company gave dinner and they where free to choose, so they ALWAYS chose the MOST expensive place to get Burgers or Thai food or Sushi lol 😂 He got a lot of nice foods there, but luckily he found another job after 2 years of constant overworking.. "Its part of the job description, that's why the salary is so high" explain to me why he got so much more at his now 3'rd job where, yes he can overwork, but seriously nobody does unless its a bug that breaks the whole system.. People, promise me to have some self respect, and value your own time. Don't be as loyal as my golden retriever energy partner, he had to learn the hard way and where on the brink of stopping work completely due to stress.. Yes overtime can be necessary, but not every week or every other week. Say no, lie, i don't care how you get out of it but don't overwork yourself constantly just because the job asks you to.
18:22 funnily enough, i’m autistic and applying for PhD’s to do neuroscience… on the topic of neurodevelopmental conditions like autism.
I have been tempted for a while now to make a voicemail message along the lines of "Those who actually know me do not leave messages." as it is otherwise blank as I never set one up. But since only the GP does... I wonder if it would change anything. >.>
The efficacy of Anti-Bullying campaigns depend on the school. My oldest is Non-verbal, 10 yrs old, was at the school designated by the county as the "Special Ed" school. He was being bullied everyday, actively encouraged by the teacher who didnt want him in her class. (No, we dont have a lawsuit, though I have the evidence to prove the school knew about it for months and never informed any of us. ) He is now at the same school as his little brother, and although it isnt the actual EC (Extra-Curricular) school, it is actually becoming known throughout the community as the "EC Friendly" school. This new school has an entirely different feel about it, and it feels good. There is a new teacher that started picking on my son, and the other students in the class put a stop to it. I am really liking this school. The anti-bullying campaign is working at this school. So, as I began with, the efficacy of the Anti-Bullying campaign depends on the school.
🤔 🐱 We think the “Poo” tier deserves to be at the top as prolific gassiness rises. So bad it deserves to go above one. Sigh, it appears there will be no votes in favour.
So much fun! Thanks Mike, Tea Fairy and lovely kitties ❤
Thank you! 🐦
23:38 Theory: These garish palletes are common because many autism moms are undiagnosed sensory-seeking (or at least visually sensory seeking) autists with an abnormal sense of color coordination.
22:32 "What is the polite word for an autistic person?" "Whatever fits grammatically and statistically in the sentence you're trying to construct. Any time there's language police, we fall afoul of them, so please, don't even try to worry about it."
20:26 - greatly exaggerated, perhaps, but untrue? 😆❤
5:21 It's funny. I'm actually a fairly unusual autist in that anxiety tends to cause me to seek out (known safe) people (with a much lower threshold for "known safe" if it's not social anxiety).
1:58 I was actually the autistic kid who lived two doors down from the elementary school bully and became good friends with him. It wasn't an entirely healthy relationship, but it did prevent me from being physically bullied. But, by the standards by which this video is judging things, society started going downhill a couple decades before anti-bullying campaigns took off.
About losing things because you either just set them down somewhere and forgpt or forgot the special place where you put them, I was ecstatic when I found out the the find-your-phone on my laptop will actually help me find my phone wherever I left it in my house, not just at some vague place I might have left it out in the world at large. Also, about the "I don't want to shower" meme, that is exactly how I feel about bathing. I don't do showers anymore, mainly because of not liking to be behind a curtain, with water running so I can't hear what's going on outside of the curtain, so I bathe sitting down in the tub now. If I'm not planning on going somewhere for a few days, I will put off bathing with the I-don't-want-to-take-a- bath chant for a couple of days, then go ahead with my bath, then have a hard time making myself get back out because it's so safe and warm, and helps my joints pain so much.
wait, piglet is wearing a jumper?
12:04 The deluminator. Yeah, nice invention. In your own home, something like Google or Apple “Home” can do that … and I guess there are others as well.
Ah, yes I can do this at home just not outside anywhere else! 😅
Meme videos are my favourite. Good point about eye contact and culture.
Haha i love creative voicemail message recorded by someone else's voice. Considering doing this ❤😂
@@hugbloom2664 it worked, too!
my mom says i "feel" too much, even though autistic ppl are more likely to be hypersensitive 😭
I related far more to the Cheshire cat
19:00 Your reaction is exactly what my brain said as you read the original post 😅
I forgot to bleep it out! 😂
3:39 I think the word you were looking for was fuck you (directed to the meme)
1:52 I dare to beg the differ. As someone who has quite a bit of experience with being othered (on racial grounds rather than being autistic) I can say with no uncertainty that now-a-days the amount of othering and bigotry I experience at the hands of autistic people is only matched by white supremacists. When I was a teenager I thought I would only hear how I'm less intelligent, less capable om empathy, less worth, and how I will be "outbred" and "out evolved" from racists, but here I am seeing more and more the same narratives and attacks from autists. If I may be so bold, i would recommend to you the videos "Aspie Supremacy" - A Deep Dive by Ember Green, and Aspie Supremacy by Generic Art Dad, both autistic content creators that might be able to reach you better than I can. Because the pattern I keep seeing ain't nothing good. I have called out bigotry against autists and argued they should be treated better because I know what it is like to be discriminated against, but it's mighty fucking hard to continue to do so when autists on the regular tell me I belong "in a camp" because I'm not like them. The narratives being used are concerning and frustrating, and I expected better from another marginalised group.
Also the amount of othering I keep seeing in this comment section is kind of only confirming my point. Even when you all try to speak in a positive way you have to other neurotypicals, giving them little lables and profiling them through words like "normal" "herd animals" "they think/speak/act like this" as if you all have some kind of monopoly on individualism and the rest of the world is just this hive mind, looking down from your comfortable ivory tower that is you first world anglo-sphere society, silently judging, analysing, profiling. I find it frankly a bit disturbing and disgusting.
My teachers called out my autism when I was a kid but my parents chose not to pursue it because they didn't want me to be judged. Now I'm a teen and getting diagnosed. "You didn't get diagnosed as a child" is a WILD reason against someone being autistic
Can we please get a trauma dumpling comic strip/plushie/merch line/theatrical film?
Yessssssss 🙌
Ralph: you missed the chance is the word defenestrate, we so rarely get to use that defenestration noun de·fen·es·tra·tion (ˌ)dē-ˌfe-nə-ˈstrā-shən 1 : a throwing of a person or thing out of a window assassination by defenestration 2 : a usually swift dismissal or expulsion (as from a political party or office) the defenestration of political leaders the mass defenestration of middle management -Jane Bryant Quinn defenestrate (ˌ)dē-ˈfe-nə-ˌstrāt transitive verb
i don’t cheer bullying culture, but neither do i cheer victimhood culture. banter and roasting is the way imo, because it’s making people discover and accept their imperfections. if we only cheer for the youths righteous behaviors, their self-image will be brittle and they will struggle when faced with adversity. accepting our flaws builds character, demonizing our flaws tear us down.
I work in the health care field doing data analysis, looking at diagnosis rates for white boys between the ages of 10-14, the prevalence is much higher than previously thought! 9% Autism 7% ADHD 4% Both Autism and ADHD 12% Either Autism or ADHD 18% Any kind of neurodivergence (inc Tourettes, Dyslexia ect) 9% for Autism sounds high, but if you think about it, in a classroom you would have say 2 to 3 Autistic children per class. Anecdotally, that seems about correct when you consider the whole spectrum.
I started answering my calls with "you have reached the entity, password please'. Most people hang up.
A friend used to pick up the phone and say, "Speak." I loved her, @nannywhumpers5702.
Lol
I related to a bunch of these but laughed out loud at the shower meme. I was watching this video procrastinating taking a shower. 😂 Still procrastinating. Thanks for the video!
