lol as an AUDHD mum of four AUDHD kids I used to say we're normal when we are home. When we went to the super market I would joke that the humans didn't know we were aliens and to act as human as possible so as not to be noticed. The kids made a great game of being "good" at it. Humour played a huge part in keeping us all sane.

So kind of "3rd rock from the Sun" kind of thing 😅 I like your attitude, humor really is the thing that keeps me sane as well. Though sometimes I'm not sure if my humor is also the thing that is driving the people around me insane.

I was once having a conversation at a party about sexuality, and made the comment that a woman had never flirted with me. My friend said "yes they have." Of course, I was like "What? Are you sure? When?" She said, "I was there, you were completely oblivious." She never did tell me when or who, though. I was flummoxed.

I think the socks clip wasn't about being a trap, but rather, the doctordid not reall know how to get the patient to answer the questions in a helpful way. I guess this was like an autism assessment, like where a not experienced / well educated person might ask stuff like "can you watch people into their eyes" instead of figuring out if there are any differences / struggles with eye contant that perhaps the patient didn't even realize.
I liked the video a lot, there were many gems in the memes! Funnily, I just recently read how somebody said that autistic people don't communicate in sentences but in paragraphs, and I continued that in my mind "... or in memes". Well yeah not sure if it's an ADHD thing (like on the video) or both ADHD and autistic thing. Memes do have repetition, often in combination with analogies, so I guess they could go with both.

Toby's brain: "That should be _stationery_ (as in pens and stuff), not _stationary_ (as in "not moving"). Wait, trains move, so maybe they did mean _stationary_ after all, because they'd rather be still than feeling overstimulated by the sensory experience of train travel."
Also Toby's brain: "Shut up, Toby. You're overthinking again."
Still Toby's brain: "Am _I_ becoming a meme now?"

The "romantizicing a disease" thing is very strange, because it's usually videos of neurodivergent people simply expressing joy. It's like the image of being ND is only eternal suffering and if you aren't in pain, then you're faking it :(.
A person being mad at another person for simply being happy, isn't THAT the strange behaviour? Shouldn't we celebrate the positive side of our lives?

    • @crazyknitter22
      @crazyknitter22 3 месяца назад +3

That goes into the category of jealousy. They believe are "normal" and feel miserable whilst someone, in their eyes defective, is happy to be alive. They will show jealousy towards almost anyone they think live a life they don't deserve. It's a form of narcissism.

My solution to “what do I do with my hands” was lifted directly from my dad, who used to be in the military. I naturally drop into a parade rest when I’m standing because he had the habit drilled into him in the service and I learned all my social skills copying him.
He’s got an encyclopedic knowledge of 70s rock bands, extreme introversion, and feels really messed up when his routine gets messed up. And he’s got an extremely deserved reputation for honesty. Oops.
Well, I guess copying a well-made mask was a good way to make mine! The problem is that a masc mask doesn’t work so well for women. Oops again 😂

Wow, I had the exact same answer to the sock question in my head! I was like, nah, socks are great because they prevent dust, dirt, crumbs, whatever from sticking to the bottoms of my feet, but I didn’t realize I definitely DO have a sock thing until this video! I’ve got cankles, so yeah, I also can’t wear long socks because of the strangling and subsequent itching, if there are any detectable seams, I’m out, if they’re cotton, they get and STAY sweaty, and I can’t stand cold wet socks, so the only socks I ever wear any more are Darn Tough no show, no cushion wool running socks, because any amount of padding makes my shoes feel too tight. Talk about autistic AF! 😂

I read Small Talk, it was very interesting. I may or may not have cried my way through most of it. I can also see how it became the #1 seller for Autism despite being primarily written about ADHD, I think a lot of what was discussed applies to the broader group of "Neurodivergent" instead of just ADHD.

When I heard the answer to the sock question, I thought no way!!!!
Then the flirting thing… I remember a woman advising me that a computer scientist was flirting with me and that I needed to be really blunt back to him. Haha, I think we both needed that clarification!
Haha, I’m doing laundry and want to move my computer and the kid’s books! Don’t know if I can do it. Help!
I don’t understand the rules around glasses and hats. My mom needs dimmer light, but my eyes hurt if there’s not enough daylight. If we want to coexist in the same space, we need to individually alter the lighting somehow.
When I was a kid, if someone had a train set, I thought they must be rich. Looking back, it shows what I valued more than their wealth.

I just finished a survey regarding clothing and it just hit me like a brick. I now know why we struggle with what to do with our arms in a conversation. Back in the days where clothing had proper pockets I would just stand there with my hands in the pockets, mostly in a fist. That kept my arms/hands safely tucked away. But nowadays the pockets are so tiny you just might get your finger tips inside or it's those damned fake pockets or there are just back pockets and I hate standing there with my hands in my back pockets. It feel weird.

Soooo, I’m autistic and I think I CAN choose my special interests. I think it’s a matter of triggering my subconscious interest switch, by focusing on something within a subject that is of special interest to me (e.g. I built a discord server, not because building it was a special interest, but because I wanted the resulting community. That enabled me to hyperfocus and build it).
