Yes she is Dame Shirley Bassey. She was awarded her title by our late Queen Elizabeth. Dame Shirley Bassey is a National Treasure in Britain. We adore her 🌹♥️🌹

What's amazing about this particular concert is that it is less than two years after her daughter tragically passed due to mysterious circumstances. She actually lost her voice as she tried to come back too soon. She stepped out on stage to hit the first note.....and nothing! She then returned to England and contacted a classical artist who was working as a vocal coach. Basically, her throat was raw, AND she needed more time to grieve. But, she also was told that she was not singing through her diaphragm, which was giving her throat greater difficulty singing live day by day in conerts. She took the coaches recommendations, and in the process she discovered she had another octave in her voice! Before 1985, she had not received any vocal coaching.
She’s one of the greatest singers ever.
She is like a national treasure here in the UK. can you believe her first hit record, called, As i love you, was released in 1959.

Thanks so much for reacting to her. Shirley Bassey has one of the greatest voices of all time. Her live performances are incredible. She is the only person to ever be asked to sing more than one James Bond Theme Song: Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, and Moonraker. When she sings Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger in the sea green sequined dress, it is almost unbelievable. As someone already mentioned, she sang Diamonds are Forever at 85 years old and still had power. She was one of the first Black persons (male or female) to have her own TV variety show here in America. She is phenomenal. I do hope you will check some of her other live performances as well.
Not African American! Dame Shirley is British, born in Wales and honoured with the title of 'Dame' by Her Majesty the Queen earlier in this century. 😁

She performed again in June '23 and it was beyond awesome...the power is even stronger.
She’s better at the 2002 BAFTA awards. This is a 90 minute non stop performance and still brilliant. I love her.

Her autobiography is fascinating - rags to riches. I grew up watching her on tv as she had a variety show. Her comedic timing is spot on. Shes got a great sense of humour too. But her dresses, beauty, wigs and that voice.....

Dame is equivalent to Sir which is awarded by our King or previously by our late Queen Elizabeth, but for charity work alongside what someone has bought into their chosen industry, if you skip forward I think last year age 85 Dame Shirley preformed this at The Royal Albert Hall live in the theatre and TV audience
BTW Dr Brian May is now Dr Sir Brian May newly knighted for his contribution to the industry and organisations and charities
Pat, this woman is a powerhouse vocalist and entainer. I saw her many times live back in the 70s and her shows left you breathless. If you don't have these songs on your list, they are a MUST!

I have Loved this Woman from when I saw her in the 60s
Not only was shirley the greatest female vocalist to come from britain, she was the greatest female vocalist in the entire world. She was Welsh and from poor roots, same as another Welshman Tom Jones, who lived in a poor coal mining community. Before madonna, beyonce, rhianna, shirley bassey could outsing them, and also was a beatiful woman.
I don't know whether or not someone has previously mentioned this, but Dame Shirley and the other great Vagas star Sir Tom Jones, were born and raised just twenty miles apart in South Wales. Sir Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Burton, and Roald Dahl were also from this small corner of Wales.
She has done a cover of Beyonce Im Still Here. There's only a studio version, it was released during covid for her final album

I like the film "Diamonds Are Forever." 1971. Some say it's cheesy and campy, but it's one of my favorite Bond films. Shirley Bassey sets the mood for the film.

She was pisted he didn't seek her permission to use it. But she probably got paid anyway. 😅 She's not Britains Greatest selling female singer in history for nothing. I remember seeing her performance in that gown back in 1985.....Enjoy !

i guess you know that this song was a Bond song for a Bond film. I went to see her on stage, never seen so many mens briefs thrown on the stage. When she performed, she expected a gift of diamonds. She has had a tragic life.
In the 80s she recorded a track called The Rythm Devine with the group Yello, in the 90s she recorded a drum and bass track called History Repeating with a band called Propellerheads .
I would recommend a live performance of song called The Living Tree at the Royal Command performance it will blow you away ...she was in her 70s then ,she always retained that power and control
