Many years ago my brother and I were queuing outside the Odeon picture house Leicester Sq awaiting the second house
when a Rolls Royce pulled up and out stepped Shirley Bassey. the Odeon manager ran towards her saying this way miss Bassey, Its ok she said i'll queue with everyone else and walked to the back, whereupon the people applauded her and led her to the front of the queue. The sign of a great person i will never forget that .

My Nan and my Dad both adored Shirley Bassey, in the mid 70s as a child I was taken to a Shirley Bassey concert, never to be forgotten, she is one of the very few singers who was first in the queue for everything voice, personality, beauty, charisma and class and since I lost my dad last year l can't stop watching her, she reminds me of the good times. The Morecombe and Wise sketch is so funny a must watch also.

Freddie did a whole routine based on Cinderella where he swapped the first letters around like that. He said that Buttons wasn’t speaking to Cinderella because she wouldn’t “cook his sock.” There was a beat where the audience was silent as we all took a moment to “get it,” then there was an eruption of laughter that nearly brought the roof down. Swansea Grand Theatre, circa 2000 I think.

Many famous people were asked to appear on the Freddie Starr Show & Morecambe & Wise in the complete knowledge and understanding that they would be “ripped apart” humorously by them - nothing was ever sacred! Andre Previn; Dame Glenda Jackson; Charles Dance; Elton John even the Beatles in the “early days” to just name a few, were all willing subjects of humiliation and fun by them - and ‘we’, the audience, just loved it! They were great friends unfortunately Fred passed away a few years ago from the pressure of Operation Yewtree, and I'll ping you a clip definitely not how you pronounced Dame Shirley surname and it was only Des O'connor who got away with calling her Shirl on TV. Away from work both are or were very shy, DSB still very much around and doing some live shows again this year, it'll be nice to see her in person again, she and my late friend were very close

I saw Freddie Starr in Swansea’s Grand Theatre. I didn’t want to go; my sister-in-law dragged me along. I was fucking creased. He had the whole place in an uproar. I laughed so hard, my face and my stomach were hurting. That man was a total nutcase.
I also spotted him in a supermarket in Spain, once, which felt a bit surreal.

Bassey rhymes with chassis. In fact, some comedian (Les Dawson?) once called her Burly Chassis as a joke. ETA: Came back to say, if you haven't seen the sketch with her and Morecombe and Wise, you MUST! Comedy gold.

Shirley Bassey was a huge star (Goldfinger diamonds are forever) Bond 007 theme tunes , she was in Vages and met Elvis who doodled on her stomach with a pen , Freddie also a massive Elvis fan an superb impersonator , was the best in the buisness during the late 70's and 1980's , a fantastic entertainer sadly died alone and mentally a broken man . Shirley is now a Dame an still going. Iam so happy you are learning about these wonderful entertainers from our collective youth , the stuff we get today just isnt in the same league.

Shirley Basseys has the most extraordinary voice you should listen to some of her music suggested in the comments & a really good sport for taking part in the sketch, couldn't imagine anyone doing that today it's just a harmless bit of fun

This is just a bit of fun between two friends and I'm sure if Dame Shirley had a problem with it she would have said. I grew up on these shows as a kid and miss them, a lot of modern comedy is so serious and boring.
