I think any criticism of DSB is tantamount to impertinence. She is phenomenal.
Shirley commands the stage like no one else. I saw her in concert in the 70s and will never forget her performance of "This is my Life" as an encore.
Wow...she can still belt that out. As you say, a couple of shaky moments but maybe down to nerves. Seems like the power and breath control is still there. At 85 years old too, she's incredible.

Dame Shirl has still got it. I saw her at Wembley Arena in 2006. She totally blew the roof off. Stupendous through & through. God bless you, darling.
I feel that most of today`s singers would have a hard time trying to recreate the sound of their recordings from last week live, let alone a song from 51 years ago. This would be a marvelous performance for anyone, the fact that she has this power and control over her vocals at 85 is beyond amazing to me. This made me cry from the pure happiness of realizing she was still around and performing and looking as amazing as only Shirley Bassey can.

I had the great privilege of training with Shirley Bassey's singing teacher Helena Shenel many years back, who sadly died in 2020. She really was an amazing woman, and by a billion miles, the finest singing teacher who ever walked the face of this earth. I've been recently trying to get my voice back into shape and went to so many teachers, yet I couldn't find anyone who is a tenth as good as her, so I gave up looking. Fortunately, I still have most of the recordings of my lessons which I recently converted to MP3 and when I listen to them, I am still in awe of her brilliance. Teaching singing is about explaining a feeling, and no one could do that better than Helena Shenel.
Shirley is just outstanding. She’s always been an amazing performer and this is no exception.
Shirley announced her retirement when she turned 80. I was amazed to see her here at 85 doing almost as great as five years ago. Such control! She did lower the key by a whole tone, but who cares!
OMG... talk about nostalgia. This is so amazing. Shirley has always been one of my favorite vocalists in my life, second only to Barbra. I can still recall seeing her perform live in the 70s in Miami Beach. What a performer... and when she did "This Is My Life"... well, it's one of those moments you never forget. I swear, this woman didn't need a microphone. Still sounding pretty amazing at 85 I must say. My only regret is she and Barbra never collaborated on a number; Shirley has covered several of Barbra's signature songs, and they've sung a lot of similar standards in their early years. Would have been epic. Anyway, thank you so much for this rare treat. Wouldn't mind seeing more on your channel... maybe some of her earlier signature stuff... like Barbra, every new generation needs to learn about these rare talents. Keep them relevant!!

what sheer joy dame shirley brings any time she's on stage ... plus, eighty. five. years. old. • thanks for your reaction to this • now that you mention it, there's a video of her soundcheck prior to the live performance, and i believe just as that video closes, she says to either the conductor or the band that the tempo was slower than usual • maybe that's why she's consistently a bit ahead -- singing the song for so many decades, it must just be pure muscle memory for her • from this reaction, i was pointed to something i never before knew i needed in my life, dame shirley covering foreigner's 'i want to know what love is" • i'd love to hear your professional take on her performance from 1996 of that -- the final 30 seconds or so blew me out of my chair

She is such extraordinary! At 85 at this performance and still capable of singing like that! Perhaps, as you mentioned, a couple of tiny mistakes here and there but overall, an extraordinary performance. I discovered her since I was like 11 or 12 and just fall in love with her then until now (48 now). I hope to see more of her performances in the near future. Long Live Dame Shirley Bassey!

I can't believe you gave her the "so-so" hand gesture, when she went a bit pitchy....tut tut!....Most people would love to be able to sing like her, as she is now! Shirley in her prime would have eaten todays talent and vocal coaches for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and still would have more than enough room for a dessert and the cheeseboard! Where we do agree, is she is pure class....a nigh impossible act to follow!

She was a tiny bit sharp on the "for when love's gone" part. Well controlled, but not quite on pitch. The thing is though, when you're 85 years old, you don't need to worry about the little flaws anymore. This woman has done it all. Performed since 1953, first Welsh person to score a number one in the UK, twentyseven Top 40 hits spread out over several decades, lost her voice and came back, received the first award for Best British Female Solo Artist at the very first Brit Awards, appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II, several James Bond themes such as this one but also "Goldfinger" which was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame! She's had several illnesses and has lost her voice, then came back. When you look up the word resilient in the dictionary, I'm pretty sure her photo comes up. Her vocal is not for everyone (I'm not a fan) but it is a very special one of a kind, gorgeously dark vocal with a deep tone. And damn dame, those upward gliding belts are spot on and simply majestic. Right, soooo, thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

Oh totally Adele tried to hard and has tried to incorporate other peoples singing styles I think and although she has a magnificent voice she hasn’t got the stage presence of stars like Shirley or Barbra or Celine etc One doesn’t get shivers when Adele walks on stage but you do with Dame Shirley it’s magic !
Her phrasing isn’t perfect like it once was (although still amazing, even without the age being a thing), but those sustained belts are whole other story
