Shirley Bassey is a LEGEND. One of the greatest singers and artists of all time. Her vocal power, control, and technique are unmatched. She’s the definition of a true diva!!!
@Alex Personally, I find her voice to be anything but angelic; quite the opposite. Her vocal style is too brassy, loud and lacks any subtlety and nuance whatsoever. I'm always amazed at people who describe her voice as elegant.
I have in my career/life been a very lucky bunny.I used to work at The Dorchester (London)Where Shirley and her (then) husband Sergio would always stay. She arranged for 6 members of staff to attend her Albert Hall concert (front row seats) and to have a glass of "champers! with her in her dressing room after.Offstage she is quiet, modest, dresses down,AND is very funny ( and a bit risque!)One of my greatest memories.
I get what you are so enchanted by her. I grew up in a house where my mom and aunt used to dress up in wigs and gowns in our living room, lip sync to her records with the hair brush mic, and pretend to be her. When I saw her singing on TV for the first time I was in love. She looked like a queen, and none of the American R&B singers sang the way she did. My mom is her biggest fan, and I took her to one of Dame Shirley's concerts years ago. That was an experience! The way she came out on the stage, her look, the way she sang the songs...can't describe it. But its not the same when you watch her on video. She performed with a big orchestra instead of with a band, and she was on stage for almost 2 hours...with no back up singers or dancers or gimmicks. There was a crescendo towards the end of almost every song...just like at 7:17, and the audience was loving on every minute of it. Seriously, what would be the point of anyone else trying to sing Goldfinger?
Pkease don't try and shade american r&b singers, they are great too in a different way. She is british they are not, this is not r&b obviously etc so why try to lift her up while piting her against others who can also sing??
Thanks to Celine who sang Goldfinger in her Vegas concert, I became to know this lady... And what a monster she is! Her voice is so powerful even with her age! Goldfinger is the best James Bond theme in my opinion. The last note here is like heaven.
Really enjoyed this. I have had the privilege of seeing her live many times over the years at The Royal Albert Hall in London. Nothing can prepare you for her voice and her charisma. She is utterly sensational. When you are only a few metres away from her ... and she hits those notes ... it’s incredible.
You're a sensitive and gourmand young man that can notice the beauty where the age tries to hide it. Yes, she was still gorgeous here, that kind of a woman that only few are lucky enough to meet in life.
I am so glad you reviewed this woman!!! Thank you, thank you!!! Do you know she first recorded the song in 1964? She has done 3 Bond songs. These and Moonraker. But you are right, Goldfinger is it. The power in that last "gold". Many singers can hit the note, but not with that power. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
One of my favourite singers. She has such a majestic velvety voice. These are the types of voices I love, I also love how she sings, her delivery and phrasing. She is so so underrated. Jesus! I'm from the UK and she is well respected here. A legend.
Now I just left the Queen of rock for the Queen of Queens, Dame Shirley Bassey. Please, a vid of her entire legacy. She is magnificent here, but her overall body of work is out of this world. ❤❤❤
I was lucky enough to meet Shirley on the beach in 1992, Lake Worth Florida. I was in heaven... also went to her concert at the Montreal Jazz Festival back in 1991.What a night it was...
Wow! I'll bet you were in heaven! Can you elaborate? How did you meet, what did she say, etc. Do you live in Florida like I do, or were you on vacation?
The ultimate entertainer with true talent, sophistication and beauty. We can watch her via YT forever! She is still stunning, check her out today. The orchestras that supported her were the best. Amazing.
I just found this amazing woman today, i mean i knew diamonds are forever, but im shocked i haven’t come across her like that and im very into old music. But shes in my collection forever
Gives me chills every time! On this performance she was a little husky but still lovely. It's the champion of James Bond themes along with "Goldfinger."
Love to see your reaction to her first appearance - 19 years old in 1956 (which got her banned on the BBC) with Burn my Candle. The voice of James Bond for my generation. The girl from Tiger Bay.
This beautiful. I'm crying real tears right now my friend. I saw this movie at the Show Case theater in Petaluma with mt mother in 1971. The audiance was so nosy, but be mum and got inspired. Goldfinger say no more.
I have been a fan ever since I first heard the song "Goldfinger" on the radio when I was just 7 years old. She just gets better and better like fine wine.
As a boy in 1960s London, the sight of Shirley on the television was mesmerising. Her looks, mannerisms, and voice were so “exotic” to me. She was extraordinary as was her fellow Welsh singer, Tom Jones.
Three actually she also sang the theme song for moon taker, bit yes incredible voice, amazing mid chest belts, you really feel it when she gets up there and really rip the note a new one
Shirley Bassey is a LEGEND. One of the greatest singers and artists of all time. Her vocal power, control, and technique are unmatched. She’s the definition of a true diva!!!
absolutely right my friend...
Ah....she is the ABSOLUTE QUEEN OF THE DIVAS......NO one can compare.......never.....
Her and Tom Jones, two wonders of Wales.
The elegance, the grace, the power, the theatrical mannerisms and natural sex appeal, she is in a league of her own.
It’s not just about her powerful angelic voice, it’s the whole charismatic and magical package. Legend.

I was at The Dorchester too ( Grill Room 1982/83 ) she asked me for Sweet & Low :-) . Absolute LEGEND!
A fabulous story.
Such an exemplary example for vocal preservation! She can still hit all these notes with crazy power, authority and resonance in her 80’s

She is adored in Britain and rightly so. Brilliant diva ... and that is why the Queen made her Dame Shirley Bassey!
Definitely one of our National Treasures and quite possibly the most powerful female voice ever.
Thanks to Celine who sang Goldfinger in her Vegas concert, I became to know this lady... And what a monster she is! Her voice is so powerful even with her age! Goldfinger is the best James Bond theme in my opinion. The last note here is like heaven.
Maicon It is the GOLD STANDARD of Bond themes. It used to frighten me as a child.
Moonraker is good too. Only she could sing about a space ship!
She killed that kast note, damn!!
Loooove that you don't just react to singers that are popular right now. You take it back.
dame Shirley is 80 now and still a force of nature as can be seen in her latest posts on here
I AM obsessed with this lady
Feliph Sant Same
Me too

*Era of Golden vocals!* Impeccable technique and voice! When talent was at the forefront :D

Just, she is perfection. Very happy to see younger people discover the best artists. :-) She is incredible.

She is Welsh like me. She wss raised in Cardiff Wales. Brilliant voice.
Dame shirley bassey is an icon
Queen, and what a powerful instrument.
I love Dame Shirley Bassey. You should check out her performance of Almost There at the BBC Proms. That was moving and powerful.
I love Shirley Bassey!
She was wearing white with soft blue backgrounds for Diamond are Forever, and Red dress with a red background for Goldfinger.
I cant wait to see Selena singing like this at 65.
XD
On the floor!! 🤣🤣🤣
Who is that chick?
Keep dreaming. LOL
The shade tho
Yeah.....she was still so magnetic, that kind of a woman that will never born again. Beautiful and powerful lioness. WOW.
Her 'Diamonds are Forever' is one of the rare theme songs better than the movie.
She slayed and knew it at the 85th academy awards
She is now 81 years old and turning 82 by Jan 2019 and would you believe that she had still the same powerful voice. :-)
Now I just left the Queen of rock for the Queen of Queens, Dame Shirley Bassey. Please, a vid of her entire legacy. She is magnificent here, but her overall body of work is out of this world. ❤❤❤

I like the huskiness. It adds something. Especially on goldfinger. Like she's and older woman warning the new ones about him
Love to see your reaction to her first appearance - 19 years old in 1956 (which got her banned on the BBC) with Burn my Candle. The voice of James Bond for my generation. The girl from Tiger Bay.
Dame Shirley actually sang three James Bond theme tunes! The third being Moonraker ;)
I 100% agree... Absolutely stunning...!!! 👍🏼
I am always humbled by Dame Shirley Bassey. Extraordinary.
YOU HAD BETTA SANG SHIRLEY!!!!!!!
L'Homme DeMond OMG she haunted my youth with that song lol.
Incomparable Shirley, no one can surpass her, no one.

She visited her nephew in the 50’s took him and my dad who were school friends to the cinema in Woolston before she was famous
Beautiful in every way! That voice!
Gladys Night did a great bond theme my favorite .
You have to watch her performance of Gold Finger live at the Royal Albert Hall, 1974, it is incredible.
Shirley Bassey's a born star!!!! 🌟🌟🌟
Goldfinger - No one else can sing that like her!!! Her voice the orchestra everything brought me to tears!!!
She later did "Moonraker" in 1979. Also, in 2009, she did sing a song from the movie Quantum of Solace, titled "No Good About Goodbye."
Shirley Bassey-"I Who Have Nothing" Live 1988

Shirley's facial expressions adds to the song. So much power in her voice!!
