Nobody sings like Shirley Bassey. The rushed, clipped, breathless phrases combined with her huge, airy, long releases. It really set her apart. So dramatic and effective. And her earthiness and sensuality were the icing on the cake!
Dame Shirley is my favorite singer of all time! Being a fan for 56 years now, there's no one better live!! No backing vocals, no special light show, no dancers.....simply a fabulous orchestra and her magic voice!! Thanks for this reaction, Pat!
Not one so-called singer today can even come close.... One of a kind.. and never again who is so talented.....
One day perhaps I will be able to listen to Shirley Bassey without the tears flowing. Yesterday when we were young indeed. Thank you for your reaction to her.
My father was a gangster in that era and the owner of the Copa was one of his best friends. Back then singers performing at the Copa was considered the pinnacle and Shirley Bassey performed at the Copa every year. So did Sinatra and many superstar singers from that era. My father told me the hardest tickets to get back then were not even for Sinatra, but for Shirley Bassey. That's when other wise-guys used to ask him to get them in.
That last 'Yesterday ' was so visceral and powerful it knocks you sideways. What a legendary singer she is. 50 years a fan and I adore her now as much as ever ❤
My grandad had Shirley Bassey albums, my parents had Shirley Bassey albums and now I've got Shirley Bassey albums ..... a true British icon !
Welsh she is through and through. Dame Shirley and Sir Tom Jones legends both.
Dame Shirley doesn’t just sing a song , she BECOMES the song , like an actress plays a role , Shirley sings the role with such perfect expression …….. wonderful Xx
Quality stands the test of time, doesn't it?!💙💚❤️
Quality stands the test of time, doesn't it?!❤💚💙
Shirley is the Queen of Wales and Tom Jones is the King.
It's like her voice grabs your soul rips it out your body takes it on an amazing journey she pops it back in and you just feel wow
Saw Shirley in Glasgow best live performer ever flawless thankyou for keeping this spectacular singer alive a true icon her modern work with the propellerheads is a dance classic you should check it out
Patrick, I have watched all your Dame Shirley Bassey reactions. It is wonderful to see you feel the music within your soul. I grew up with Shirley Bassey. I have all her music playing in my house and car. Shirley is in a class if her own!
I have to say, my generation grew up with phenomenal music in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Still this music lives on.
The 86 year old DSB sand Diamonds are Forever at the BAGFTAs this year, 2024. Please listen.. Yes not quite as good but that lady can still belt it out. Just liste. She is still FABULOUS
It's a wonderous thing, Pres Pat, to see your heartfelt reactions to Ms Bassey, the same we had late 50's when she first arrived. As said before, no one can get inside a song and perform it like Shirley. Loved her since forever. I see you've also caught one of her earlier performances, 1961 As Long as he Needs Me, when she had a less staccato delivery, so smooth. The lady had come through some rough early years and it was so good to see her blossom into world renown.
The incomparable one and only unique Dame Shirley Bassey!!!❤❤❤
And never out of breath - ever. Even today. But always breathtaking!
its an original song by the fabulous french pairing of Charles Aznavour and Patrick Bruel Hier Encore (only yesterday)
President Pat, you are so cute.
She is a Dame of the United Kingdom for a reason!
Thank you that was great
WELL AFTER ALL THAT ENTHUSIASM FROM YOU YES I WILL SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR CHANNEL & WELCOME YOURSELF Mr. Patrick to the world of many of us long time fans of Britains best selling female artist in their music history. So glad you discovered her in your busy schedule.
Back in 1976 I finally bought my 1st lp by her "Love, Life, and Feelings" - an astounding triumph: Especially songs like "Natalie" and "Born to loose". Since then she became my absolute favorite female voice though I love a lot of others from Diana, Streisand, Whitney and Oleta Adams etc.
Seen her in concert in the N.Y. area 10 times from Carnegie Hall to Broadway+ others places - even had a rare chance to meet her for a minute & get a kiss, hand shake and autograph I still have framed from 1985 on my music wall. She was always ASTOUNDING in concert !
Really wish you could have seen her live in concert as so many of us have, but now she's semi-retired but occasionally will do a little something live so be on the look out. But thank goodness for video performances of her. If you haven't yet, and you get time to i'd highly recommend her early records from the late 50s on till today to see her growth in song - but that will take some time.
So here's a small immediate suggestion if you haven't:
"Love, life and Feeling" cd,
"How do you keep the music playing" cd,
"History Reaping" collaboration with the Propellerheads,
"Rhythm Devine" with collaboration with Yello.
Pop singer Pinks dance hit "Get the party started" (she did it with a ballroom type dance orchestra + a video).
& her performance of 1 of her 3 James Bond themes she recorded (more than any one else) & watch her perform "Gold Finger" from a few years back at the Academy Awards. You'll see what we all know - she truly is the Queen of what she calls her music - "classical Pop".
Best wishes to you man !
Sublime.
OMG.....One of my favourite expressive beautiful songs from our Shirley ❤
Have you watched her compilation vid. Omg brilliant.
Thanks for reacting to Shirley Bassey again, I’ve been waiting with anticipation and you didn’t disappoint :)
Hope you enjoyed it!😊
Listen to my life Shirley basset. Pls it the very best
That 'musical ride' you discuss shows a singer who can clearly follow the melodic and lyric line, but also weave in and out it when she chooses, and still hit the important musical marks. She knows from her experience you want to hear melody, lyrics and the story of the song. In contrast watching her perform the "Smoke gets in your eyes" song/ comedy sketch with comedians Morecambe and Wise is seeing two performing acts blending beautifully and hilariously at the same time. You may want to give it a try Patrick. 😊
Dame Shirley does a superb version of George Harrisons 'Something'. One other to listen to 'This is my life'.
We are so blessed to be able to still enjoy this magnificent artist today.
🙏 AMEN ❤
I always thought Shirley Bassey and Leslie Uggams resembled each other and sounded the same in their heyday.
Please react, when you can, to 'The Greatest Performance of my Life' 4k Remastered. The one where she's in a white chiffony dress - she's wonderful.
Fabulous!!! Dame Bassey no other words
Thanks for another wonderful reaction to the incomparable Dame Shirley Bassey. Your comments are very insightful.
Wow, thank you
Queen singing Freddie tribute written by Brian called No One But You (Only the Good Die Young). You will like it.. There is a video of brian, roger and John playing together.
Hi Patrick
Your reaction of Dame Shirley is very spot on. Your so right, I have tried to think of other singers that do the same thing she does. I can’t think of anyone. She is so unique. Her performances are one of a kind with so much emotion and acting out her songs with so much body language. She is a national treasure 😊🎼🎹
Thank you
Thank you Mr. Reed. It was my pleasure for sure. I am thrilled to do more reactions by the Dame. :)
Sie ist die einzige, die ich tatsächlich fünf Mal (5x) live erleben durfte. Unerreichbar, unvergesslich.
For something different, how about taking a look at the duet of Shirley Bassey singing with Neil Diamond. The song is called Play Me and it sure looks like there was something going on between the two of them. Its very romantic.
Yes, I'll thoroughly recommend that. I think they had to throw a bucket of water on them at the end!
Try her song Goldfinger from the James Bond soundtrack. And Diamonds Are Forever. She is the only artist who has sung 2 of the soundtracks of the James Bond movies
Hi Patrick
Love the honesty in your reactions. Dame Shirley is a force of nature. I would highly recommend listening to this same song by the legendary Lena Horne. Totally different vibe. Worth the watch
Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Eidye Gorme. Thanks
Thanks! For your special reactions.
Hey Greg!! Thank you so much for the Super Like! It's my very first one that I received with a tip. I truly put time and work for these videos and this really makes it worth it. Thank you so much again and it is always my pleasure to react to Dame Shirley. She is very the best EVER!
Your very welcome. The hard work is very noticeable in your reactions. 😊
Thank you 😊
excellent
Many many thanks
Well done young man, check out her latest album from 2 years ago aged 83 fantastic
Thank you! Wow. Have to check that out soon.
how about listening to elaine page and barbra Dickinson singing I Knoe Him so Well?
React Gabriel Henrique please ❤
Can you please do Roy Clark's version of this song it's very different
didnt really like this performance because she was being to dramatic with her delivery and was half way singing it and breathily speaking the lyrics like she was in emotional distress
When she actually outright sings this song without the Drama its beautiful!
