I read somewhere that Frank thought the song was too self-indulgent and didn't quite like it, but he recognized that it would be a hit and still recorded it. I kinda agree that on paper they seem a bit too grandiose to sing about oneself, but I think Shirley's way of singing them makes it work so well. In her voice, it sounds very emotional and self-reflective rather than self-indulgent

Obviously the performance differed to performances when she was younger but still brilliant considering her age.

She is not only a Dame of the British Empire, France awarded her the French Legion of Honour. I associate My Way with Frank Sinatra, i would have suggested This is My Life ( La Vita) for first time listening. What puts her apart from other divas is her absolute passion, class and elegance. I do love her version of My Way though.

I read somewhere that Frank thought the song was too self-indulgent and didn't quite like it, but he recognized that it would be a hit and still recorded it. I kinda agree that on paper they seem a bit too grandiose to sing about oneself, but I think Shirley's way of singing them makes it work so well. In her voice, it sounds very emotional and self-reflective rather than self-indulgent

Shirley was in her mid 60s in these clips I believe, in 2022 she performed these songs at the Royal Albert Hall in London at 85. Obviously the performance differed to performances when she was younger but still brilliant considering her age.
