- In 2010 I started AppSumo.com as small project. Fast forward to today, we have 75+ teammates and we're making $70M in revenue. BUT I almost gave up on this business in 2014. Here's the story!

Whenever I see that cartoon of the two guys digging it gives me PTSD. One problem entrepreneurs have is also not knowing when to give up. I was so sure I could hang on in 2008 I keep borrowing against my houses and my business to keep my mortgage company afloat. But, I couldn't and the banks took both of my houses and my commercial building. I should have thrown in the towel and saved my real estate. But I learned many lessons.
This is my favorite video you have done. Not only hearing the story and journey. But every piece of information you gave is exactly what has helped or is helping with my current business struggles. Learning to scale is rough. Your channel deserves so many more viewers.
Really grateful for videos like this - came out at exactly the right time! Noah, you rock!
Really enjoyed this video! I found your channel earlier this week and have just been binge watching a lot of your vids. You provide such great educational content as well as it being entertaining. You got my creative juices flowing for starting some potential businesses!!
This is the most insightful video I have seen on your channel. Great advice in there! Thx
Love this episode!! Soon i will start my Billion dollar Tech company!!
Me too
Hell yea. Make sure to remember us when you do!
@@noahkagan sure
I really like the storytime videos, where you share your experience. Glad you didn't give up on this amazing business. 😉
Thanks man. We love AppSumo. Glad to have amazing people to work with...
Thank you for giving us real behind the scenes info and not just boring old talk about bad strategies
Hear hear John.
You're like an open book. I like that. Keep up the great content!
Dude we get so much value from the videos...I'm in college, but I look forward to get the skills to be like you brother
Congrats Noah! The algorithm was pushing this video hard!
Great video Noah love your Content, quietly learning alot from you, keep up the good work👍
Means a lot Dan.
Thanks! I actually listed my SaaS business for sale this week because it's been flat and this was honestly helpful to rethink that and maybe make some hires for the stuff I hate instead of selling outright
Love love love it, dog!! Super timely 👍🏻👍🏻
Much needed video! Did you look to hire your replacement exclusively in your own city? Would you still? How do you decide compensation when hiring for such a major role? Would love more videos on scaling your business. Thanks Noah!
It's really sweet to see an owner n founder to be humble enough to even praise the man who he hired as being great n growing the company. Quite a lot of narcessists owners out there who won't praise Thier valuable staff n credit to them for their success in growing the company. It says a lot about u to talk highly of them. 👏
Yeah Noah love more inside info about the nuts and bolts of how your company runs!
Love these sorts of videos about the story behind the business
Super insightful video!!
Jake u are the best too, I have literally seen all your vids
when I got to know that arrack, noah and you were friends I literally went crazy😂😂
Yooo Jake wassup bro
Best Biz's content :) Same here, I did every job at first (support/ operation/ service/ fiance) at the end, I released all current employees and replaced them with ones who knows the job (the company went from negative seven annually to plus)
It's a journey.
Thanks Noah. Best advice ‘Make it fun 🤩!’
Great videos Noah!
Always appreciate your comments!
behind the scenes how you grew biz (marketing, sales, etc) especially subscription revenue.
Nice video Noah! Keep it up!
Wow exactly what I am feeling now, hopefully if I keep going and take your advice I'll also reach 70m in revenue.
Love from India ❤️
Love ya back from USA
You are just out of the box, Noah ❤️

Great video! Thanks uncle Noah!
Uncle loves you James.
Thanks, Uncle Noah!
I've had my first offer to buy my company. Don't think I'm going to sell, but, it's super exciting. Would love to take it to the next level.
Great video! Do you have the CEO Job Description that go you Ayman ? A video walkthrough of your best job descriptions will be awesome ;)
I have to say, I LOVED the Venti latte joke!
haha
@@noahkagan I enjoyed the rest of the video, too! I've always loved your videos and I've found them very helpful. And each of your videos is better than the last one! Keep up the great work and good luck on your bike ride!

(Uncle Noah, where is your Ark? :))
One day
Rockin' the GMT now though...
We would love to see videos on appsumo
Wasn't the typekit deal Nev's first kopywriting email?
Grats Noah. Crazy to see where AppSumo has gone.
Do you have an exit strategy?
Think Kernest was his first email. Exit strategy.....get bought by Taco Bell =)
I see that Batgirl Noah, looks dope!
Who, me???? =)
Thanks Noah for this great advice, I love it !
It's funny how RUclips can't figure out what to put as text for the subtiles! Check them out 😜
man can you give an insight of the company's main team pre hiring the CEO and post hiring the CEO. At what specific rolls did everyone have
Once you hired the CEO, how did you interact with him as the owner, especially for the first year during training? It seems almost like he "worked for you" instead of being an autonomous CEO. How did you determine the line between you telling him what to do and him making his own decisions?
Hey bro. Building some products to launch. Btw you are great inspiration for all of us.
Hell yea mate. Launch it on AppSumo.com/sell
Would love to hear an interview with Ayman
That was great!
Thanks CLQ
Just a blip in the radar in the greater scheme of things :)
Doing our best Will. Rooting for you too!
What kind of software is in 6:38 please?
What does app sumo do ? Not clear
very good
I'd be rolling in it too if I could just get the government to bail me out like every PPP recipient.
What was Ayman’s salary when he kicked off with AppSumo (if you don’t mind sharing)? Obviously he was worth every penny and more!
P.S. Love your videos and podcasts!
I mind sharing. :)
Ps. Love you back
@@noahkagan thanks sorry I asked that in too blunt a way.....really meant did it mean “investing” most of the yearly profit in that role (ie financial risk).
Your videos and podcasts are so helpful and love AppSumo
2:34 no photo...
Should've put a clip of Ayman's video haha
Omg yes
I thought you did $30 million - when did it become $70 million?? Crazy!
No idea 🤷♂️
Lol, Noah just said "Stop chasing shiny objects"
He's omitted the fact that software LTD deals ARE shiny objects. And they're Very addictive. Appsumo is the dealer and I'm the user.
Yeah. It's true alright. I have bought way more deals than I'm able to use realistically. Like about 60
So Noah, what's the cure? Rehab?
Glad you didn't sell!
Me too. Love our customers / teammates / partners.
Noah.....woahhhh....great to see your happy bald taco head. Love ya mate. #SuperHappyStar 👍🙏
Love from India
This reminds me of the time my 70m business almost went bankrupt! 😉
Damn. Sorry to hear.
the hardest part of starting a business is earning predictable income month in and month out.
I'm same way, getting burnt out
Key Finding: Hire an Asian for CEO! X
hahaha. you have to hire someone from all the colors of the rainbow. honestly think our mix of gender and races have been instrumental in our success.
@@noahkagan of course bro :) x
How did you almost go bankrupt? Incorrect thumbnail maybe?
Fair. Yea it’s more how I almost quit. But a year earlier we were close to going under. When expenses were way greater than revenue
@@noahkagan oh I see that makes sense then, when I read the thumbnail I thought you were going to tell us about some poor financial decisions and how you dug yourself out of it. Specifics too. So I can avoid them in my company . Thanks for your reply Noah!
Been watching all your videos Noah but haven't made up to $100 doing so. Obviously watching videos doesn't lead to making money.🤔
Shosho. Love the name. GOOD. Stop watching, start doing.
Ps. Challenge yourself to just get $1 today...Seems silly but its a start
Thanks for the reply @Noah Kagan. Thanks for not taking it personally too. Just upset with myself 😅
lol 2nd 3Rd and 4th year " "only" 3 million flat"
"how boring" 🤑
First
Second.
😎👍🖖
Whenever I look at Noah I imagine how would Andrew Tate look like if she was nice!
