That’s what Robert does in the short story, and the monsters are much more like vampires who can talk and stuff.
In the movie they’re more like sun sensitive zombies.
Also in the novel they capture him and are going to kill him because the vampires are trying to live a normal society and he's the monster that keeps killing them.
Well, I would rather just set up UV lights at the entrances to every entrance and exit they have, so they starve to death. Or at least can’t get out. Solar panels seems like a good way to power the lights.
Note: it’s been like two years since I last saw the movie, so if I said anything wrong about the monsters, that’s why.

Everything he did was right at least until the part with him yelling at "Fred" but he was close to insanity from loneliness, most humans like and sometimes need to be around other people.
Not most, all. Humans 100% need to have social interactions to maintain a healthy mind and body. That's why the internet is such a big deal. The more that people isolate themselves and choose online over social interactions with real people, the more their mental health degrades and the more disorders they develop. They find it more and more difficult to talk to people, and build more and more social awkwardness/anxiety.
It can even affect physical health. The less a person interacts with others the less they take care of themselves. They don't feel the need to maintain proper hygiene practices, they don't feel the need to maintain proper diet, and they generally just care less and less about their overall health in general.
So yeah...
Human beings absolutely 100% ALL need regular interactions with other human beings to stay healthy, mentally and/or physically.
No matter who they are or what they say, even the reclusive ones who try to go off into the woods and stuff to be alone. They always absolutely end up seeking out human contact, be it the excuse of "purchasing supplies" or requiring some sort of service they can't perform themselves to maintain their isolation. They always find an excuse to interact with people after enough time spent alone.
@@SPFLDAngler some professions are like that. I ship motorcycles up and down the west coast. Most days I dont interact with people gets lonely and then slowly become like you said anti social, which is why i interact with family and friends as much as possible in my free time.

You're full of shit. There's no way you have the experience and education to speak with such authority on the matter. There are people who have gone years in isolation who are fine and had no problem living that way. And there are people who can't go a week in solitary without going nuts. For you to not only say "all" but to emphasize "ALL" shows your ignorance.
I can speak personally: years ago I lived alone and took 2 full months off between jobs in which I never left my house or even talked to someone on the phone. Not even a neighbor or a delivery person. Just me, my tv, and my books. I'm not exaggerating. I never left, not even to go to the store or the movies or anything. It was one of the most peaceful times in my life. Those 9 weeks flew by and felt like no time had passed. I almost hated going back out into society knowing I'd have to start interacting with other fucking humans again. I KNOW deep down that I could spend an entire year, 52 short weeks, in isolation and relish every moment of it. It's not something that can ever happen now that I'm married and have kids, but I'd be fine. I'll give you one caveat for my 2 months off: I wasn't completely alone. I had my 13 year old cat, Buddy, with me. But, even Will Smith had a dog in this movie.

Another thing, have lots of magnesium on hand. When lit, magnesium emits incredible amounts of UV which would fry any dark seeker nearby. Dumping water on burning magnesium will create an intense “pulse” of UV that you can take advantage of. Magnesium is a very common metal in manufacturing and raiding the right facility will net you large amounts of it.

The book is absolutely brilliant and they actually talk, dark seekers are very clever and use tactics against him. Wish the film had stayed with the source material because the ending in the book twist is utterly amazing.
The fact that the infected in this movie have feelings and can feel both physical pain and emotional pain makes it unique and I really wish they made a part two to this.

This is such a great story though I hated how the movie changed them from vampires to whatever it is that we got. The alternative ending is also so much more powerful.
Staying in a major city is a bad idea for this type of scenario. Too many hiding places for the Darkseekers to thrive. Eventually u will be found out.
Plus, the density of them would be insane!
Cities have/had tons of people in them, which is just more darkseekers to fight if you stay there.
The deep country would be much more safe, but his laboratory was his reason for staying...
He can’t really pack that lab equipment up and move safely.
If you're just trying to survive, a ranch with fields would be perfect.

The darkseekers found his home because the woman drove back during the night when they were being tracked, not because of his revenge. If she had driven out of town, or done detours until dawn, they'd have been fine

In the alternative ending where they spare neville, my next step would be get out of town, because when the alphas mate starts turning back human and get eaten, the alpha is coming right back for him lol
U got it wrong. That alpha spared neville which means he has emotions towards human. Even if his mate becomes human, I don't think he would begrudge neville. Yeah that alpha might come after him only to deliver his mate to safety.

She will then make sure the vaccine gets distributed as fast as possible so that no one has to die like that alpha. But whatever. I would much rather see human go extinct but that's the way that alternate ending would end.

Or maybe that alpha is too strong and intelligent for the darkseekers to revolt against and with the help of his mate, he can take over the world ending the human race.
Tomorrow, on December 14th, 13 years ago, this movie was released. Too bad we never got a sequel or prequel to this movie, and that a reboot, A Garden At The End of The World, was written 7 years earlier, but has been put in hold due to COVID.

The snare trap was not set by the dark seekers, it was set by the main character so he could catch more dark seekers for experimentation, he set off his own trap.

It is a real cure... but a better suggestion might be to use the HIV virus, so it's not airborne, and you've got to work to get it.

What isn't real about it?... weaponizing preexisting viruses for use against more deadly viruses is a valid form of "cure"... I mean... that's kinda literally what almost every cure is. You utilize something that targets and kills specific things in order to "cure" the patient.. Like antibiotics. Penicillin comes from mold. We take that mold that doesn't harm us but harms bacteria and such, and we weaponize it to cure bacterial infections inside the human body..

All medicine comes from something originally found in nature, be it plants or fungus/mold or bacteria. All medicine is technically "natural" even the "artificial" kinds that are synthesized from other components to create the same exact chemical makeup as the original natural form, just without the need to extract it from that natural entity...

@@SPFLDAngler Firstly, viruses do not kill other viruses. They attack cells, and usually only a specific type, like phages that attack bacterias. Most vaccines are micro-doses of a virus/bacteria, small enough not to do significant harm, but big enough to allow the body to naturally develop its defence, and retain the correct white blood cell in the blood memory. Some vaccines are entirely synthetic, and some are derived from natural sources. It is very uncommon that a totally natural source is used for vaccines, however, we can engineer bacterium to produce certain types of antibiotics, as you said. Although, to my knowledge, no vaccines or cure for a disease of any kind has been dispersed using infectious methods (I.e. using measles, as in the film). It’s quite obvious as to why, as it is totally uncontrollable, and if it were to mutate to have even minor side-effects, there would be nothing anyone could do. There have been cases of genetically-engineering viruses to reduce their infectiousness, but this is still in its infancy. I doubt we will ever see a cure being rolled out in this manner, thankfully.

I always wondered if it’s a good idea or not to have a dog during the zombie apocalypse. On one hand: they will bark when there are zombies around, provide emotional support, and will hunt for themselves, probably bringing you big fat rats for dinner sometimes. On the other hand it will be hard to stay stealthy with a dog. random warning barks will bring in zombies and any more than two or three are a big problem... Really tough call.
In a zombie apocalypse, stay away from the ladies.. Before, he managed pretty well with just his dog. After meeting the lady, both died. 🤯
I think it was more of him going crazy and attacking a mannequin and not thinking it’s a trap, the dog saved him from being torn apart. He met her after a crazy revenge death moment when she save him from being eating.
That lady zombie vampire wound up his undoing.

His dog proved she's a dog by running into the dark building after deer. Yet there are scenes of the dog hunkered down at home ( in the bathtube, waking up in the morning in bed)with Neville, with the Darkseekers apparently nearby and the dog not wearing a muzzle. One bark or two could have alerted the Darkseekers to investigate. Seems strange someone as meticulous as the Neville character to overlook.
It’s called a plot hole. In the book, the Darkseekers already know Neville lives at his house and they go outside there every night, but are much weaker and less adaptable to their movie counterparts and so never successfully break in.
Go raid the tanning salons for UV lights. 👍🏼

It doesnt. Fuel has a shelf life, so maybe a year or two for most generators so Propane would be your best bet. Best part is you can scavenge all the wind turbines and solar panels you spot and charge battery banks until all the batteries start failing from old age as well.

@@The.Nasty. I dont know, gasoline evaporates and oxidizes. If you could somehow store it in a pressurized container full of inert gas like helium, it would last indefinitely I would think.
Alternatively, a diesel engine can run on oils and kerosene, which would keep good for decades.

Pick a farm house out in a field as your base. No nearby nests, no spooky places to hide. You can wake up at the break of dawn and make it to town and back before night.
I would try and form a bond with the dark seekers so then we can both live peacefully together.

Don’t fall for traps. If you see a mannequin not where it should be knowing full well where it was originally then it should immediately click something hostile is after you. He has a rifle, armoured house and is well versed with the infected and how they operate.
When I saw this movie, I noticed it was similar to " The Omega Man " ,from 1971. They were based on a novel "I am legend" released in 1954.
What do you always do in case of zombies? Find a cabin cruiser and set sail. You can get UV lights at your local home and garden store or music shop. They're used for growing plants or illuminating Black light posters.

One of my favorite movies since it came out , truly a amazing one , I always loved this movie and I robot , I miss my childhood!
That's why I hated the theatrical version of the ending. Even if he found a cure and sent it with her, there was no guarantee anyone would know what to do with it without him. He very well could be the only one alive that could re-produce, and administer the cure. Him sacrificing himself meant nothing.

Okay, it's been a very long time since I've seen this movie, but I'm pretty sure that was Will Smith's trap that he walked into. Right? The dark seekers definitely weren't out at night rigging up traps. That's ridiculous. He was just losing it in that moment going nuts and walked into one of his own traps. Or maybe it was a trap set up by another surviving human. But, definitely not by the dark seekers. Imagine trying to rig up a complex trap while your heart is racing and you're shaking and breathing at a hundred miles an hour.
I was under the impression the Dark Seekers set the trap after seeing Neville do it. Re-watch the scene, and I'm almost positive he didn't do it--unless he TOTALLY forgot about it.

I get that they have rudimentary intelligence and a basic society with a leader, but they're not even smart enough to cover themselves and wear sunglasses during the day. They are terribly stupid and animalistic. Like I said in my first comment: they can't even stand still, even when they're sleeping. Their heart rates and respiration rates are too high. They wouldn't be capable of the careful manipulation of their environment needed to setup a trap like that.
The absolute most credit I could give the dark seekers is that they found Will Smith's trap and then put one of his mannequins in it as bait.

But they *are intelligent. The movie does a bit a disservice to the book since they're way smarter there, but the director still shows their intelligence by building it up and especially at the end (in the superior original ending.) lol, not sure what good wearing sunglasses would do, but they are still a very new evolving species of sorts.

Put the book aside. I never read it, so I can only go by what the movie shows me. The movie showed me some messed up hyperactive zombies. Do you think they could control their breathing and shaking hands enough to set up that kind of trap?
@@joshuaewalker I am putting aside the book; I'm just saying the vampires are basically human level in the book. When I discuss this, it's using the original ending as context, which shows the darkseekers are much more intelligent than first given credit.
I do think they could set a trap, yes. Even if it took them several tries. They can conceivably slow down they're breathing, just as regular humans can. Increased adrenaline is probably what causes them to breath more quickly and heart rate to be fast.
best options:
1-A boathouse: or any ship ankle near the shore of a city. With a small boat you can go to the city every morning to scavagner supplies, work on your greenhouse, or hunting.
2- An isolated farm: you must be a couple days far away from any city, so this night creature cant follow you during night time.

Well the main reason why Neville was so broken up by Sam dying was the fact that was the last connection to his dead wife and child.
I like the alternative film ending where Neville survives at the end.
