remember that this isn't the ending that the writers wanted. There's an alternative ending that sees Dr. Neville showing the cure to the alpha and giving him his girl back. This ending was preferred by the writers but probably wouldn't have made as much in the box office, so they went with the Michael Bay sacrifice scene.
"probably wouldn't have made as much in the box office" That doesn't make sense though. It's not like they advertise the ending in trailers and promotions. Was this a test audience thing? Well, regardless, the alternative ending where the alpha darkseeker lets Neville live after he takes back his girl is the canon one to me.
The idea of Neville having a dummy grenade and not realizing it was a fake until he was about to blow himself and the Darkseekers up is just HILARIOUS LMAO
Not A Russian Spy At All ye but he wouldn’t have had to if the dog wasn’t bitten (I like the non dark seeker much better), and even tho the dogs name is Sam, it’s a girl
It's cool how they switched perspectives. But one a side note they are the monsters in his (and my) eyes as well. In the beginning they killed his wife and daughter from the helicopter crash and then later killed his last living connection with his family.........his dog. So even if the Darkseekers see him as the monster, Neville has good reason to be. Also in the book it takes a much darker turn towards it aswell.
I’ve read the book and it’s a lot sadder than the movie, the “vampire” people are really just regular people that are able to talk and communicate with other people. While reading the book I felt like Dr. Neville was the villain since they were trying to live by themselves, not trying to kill him, but try and talk to him about what’s he has done. I prefer the book over the movie since it just goes into a lot more detail (like most books) and how the storyline works a little bit better. One example in the book is at the beginning, one of them is sleeping in a bed and Dr. Neville pulls it out of the bed and starts to drag it out of the house. Great video and I like how you switched it up 👍
Yeah that’s definitely a scene I really wish they’d have included in the movie. The book really sets up Neville up to be the bad guy, which he is, but we see none of that in the movie which is kinda disappointing and ruins the climax of his potential death.
Neville didn’t create the virus from what I remember from the movie, it was created by Alice Krippin, or at the very least she was the one in charge of the project. It’s possible he might have been part of the project, but really he and every other doctor/scientist on the planet would have been trying to find a vaccine or cure as soon as people realized what the “cure” for cancer had mutated into. From the short animated comic Shelter it’s shown that the infected see non-infected as monsters. Neville was just trying to finish what he and every other doctor/scientist set out to do because that’s all he had left.
I thought that when Neville was caught in the trap and knocked unconscious it was his own trap. We see that he thinks fake people are real people. So his declining sanity could of made him think the dummy was a person, and subsequently forgot about his own trap. But I don't know.
I felt like Neville's actions are meant to be him just Trying to retain some sense of not being alone. He Knows they're not really alive, but he has to talk to Someone (Or thing) or he'll snap. His response to seeing the mannequin where it shouldn't be Is, effectively, "Why is that here, what the hell is happening, holy fuck am I finally going insane?" That was my interpretation at least.
This is always how I viewed the scene. I never considered the dark seeker moved the mannequin and set the trap. Always seemed like he set it all up and was too distracted tripping out to notice the snare.
Their intolerance to UV rays is caused due to the excess adrenaline, adrenaline restricts blood to skin which means that the skin doesn’t exist or just covers them, but doesn’t really protect them (if that makes sense) Holy shit my highest like record

The alternate ending however shows that there are still a remainder of un-infected humans alive. So who are the monster's? The un-infected or the infected?
The book makes it clear ol' mate is the monster. He is the legend of the infected's horror stories, just murdering all he comes across. Men, women, children.
I'm pretty sure that they thought he knew they were capable of though, but just doesn't care. I mean, if you see a guy kidnapping and murdered lots of your friends, your first thought is not "Hmmm, I think he don't know we have feelings too."
When the alpha zombie looks at Neville standing next to his zombie girlfriend, you can almost see the sadness in the alpha's eyes, sure it was mainly anger, but just as he was about to return to the darkness, the sadness is almost palpable. I watched the video on how to beat the dark seekers before I watched this one, I'm happy to see that there is a, relatively, happy alternative ending to the film. From a moral standpoint, it is difficult to side with one group over another, which is why I love the film. I don't think we can really say there is a good or bad side in this film as far as right and wrong is concerned. and this video, along with the other one, is just brilliant, especially when you watch one and then the other. These videos are good from an intellectual, and entertainment standpoint. Bravo👏👏👏
The scene at 15:38 also show that the darkseekers aren't just screaming monsters but that they could basically surprise someone by running at them completely silent
Name of the movie doesn't even make sense unless they use the alternate (Original) ending. He is a legend to these creatures. A monster they tell stories of, because, surprise, they're intelligent. But nah, they dumb monsters, Neville is heroic suicide bomber.
That's what my thought was. They would think that the vinegar outside this door but not any other door is odd, and they're smarter than they seem to be. In the book they're as intelligent as current humans. I would think that they'd try to investigate the vinegar smell, to figure out why it's there; part of being human or even a Neanderthal is inherent curiosity. However, perhaps that is part of their legend about him? The only trail he leaves behind is the smell of vinegar leading into his den. Still probably wouldn't stop some from trying to investigate, like how we have paranormal investigators or reckless teens.
@@spectralwiitch7544 I think the smell of vinegar erodes pretty quickly so I think there is no scent or it’s probably another acid but you get my point.
That's a very hyperbolic and misleading way to put it. She probably didn't know the darkseekers could track their scent, and certainly didn't know of their vendetta against Neville. Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't complain if a man made the exact same mistake?
You probably won’t see this comment but your videos have literally been keeping me sane the past week. In a deep, dark hole of depression and distracting myself watching the vids has been such a comfort. Just wanna say thank you & keep up the good work 👍🏻💙
Wouldn't the best strategy and simplest one to just prove SOMEHOW you're more intelligent than you seem? And you're not just a mindless Zombie? That worked at the end, when he realizes they're actually conscious beings he changes his mind about them. He wouldn't hunt them all down if he knew there was still SOME humanity left in those infected.
Bruh they literally took over human bodys thts like giving anotherp erson someones life thts why i would of kill them or cure cause giving someone ur body mind n ways without ur consent plus yo ufeell pain ?? Bruh yall stupid
@@matthewayres6275 It's a virus, not an alien or ghost. Killing them is like killing people who have the cold, because they are "different" than normal. Not exactly, but argument-wise. They were also only ever shown to defend themselves, if I remember the movie correctly. He was the one going out and kidnapping them.
I can't stress enough how I think the alternate ending was the superior ending. Neville realizing that he was the real monster all along was the whole point of the book, but that ending didn't do well with test audiences who clearly never read it.
The dark seekers probably wouldn’t have been able to wear any more clothing than they did since their internal body temperature was so high, it probably would’ve been intolerable to wear any more than they did
Could you do a How to Survive "Us"? I know that the clones are simply human so killing them and protecting yourself would be kind of straight-forward when they only have scissors, but as we see at the end, they probably took over enough of the US that they effectively control the country now, so it could be interesting to examine how the family would survive post-movie.
Honestly If I was one of the sentient dark seeker I’d try and negotiate a deal with Neville, he leaves part of my tribe alone, and we provide protection, and give him the less sentient seekers... I know this might be a major stretch but it seems like a neat idea
This was an issue I had with the book. The sentient vampires in the book were basically just humans who couldn't handle sunlight. They had no reason to see Neville as some "alien" or "other" being. He should have been far more familiar to them than any of the undead vampires were. The entire conflict of the story could have been avoided if they simply revealed themselves to him right away, instead of waiting until after he had killed several of them. It's not like his location was particularly secret and it should have been obvious that the only reason he'd target any of them was a simple lack of knowledge of their existence. It's not like they held any sort of kinship with the undead vampires, as they had no issues mowing them down by the dozen. I also didn't understand why they would sleep in isolated places that would allow him to pick them off in their sleep, instead of staying together in a dependable group.
Absolutely love your content man, keep doing what you're doing. Just wish you posted a bit more often, but you know who honestly cares with content this good.
Biggest thing to account for: Vinegar has a strong scent. That would have been my FIRST clue "...Wait why is there a strong, acrid smell here? Imma follow it and see what's up. Oh hey there's that fuck's truck!" Then just hide in the truck (since he thinks you're stupid, he likely doesn't lock up the vehicles so he can easily jump into them in case of an emergency), cover myself in the back, then attack him when he comes in the day. Or rather have a scout in the truck ready to attack. Others stay in the buildings nearby and prepare for war in case the scout fails their mission
I mean of course there's reason and such But even with the reason I don't see a point in trying to beat him because: 1. He feels he's one of the last humans. 2. He's lost in his own little world, fearful but hopeful he can find a cure. 3. He's unstable with everything that's happened. 4. He's doing good by his own terms, survived for three years since the outbreak. And he's done tons of expirements and such to try and find a cure.
You realise this was from the POV of the zombie-vampire dudes right? They were trying to beat Will Smith because he's been kidnapping them, experimenting on them, and killing them, for three years. You're saying they shouldn't try to kill him because he's "doing good on his own terms"?
@@SpicyDeddy because that's their nature. Scorpion and the frog, man, but this time the frog survives the initial sting and kidnaps and tortures scorpions for three years because he's trying to turn them into frogs. But the scorpion attacked first so it's justified? It doesn't matter that they attacked first, and it doesn't even matter what he did back to them. They're a threat to eachother and neither wants the other around, and the Darkseekers attacking first doesn't mean they're doing to put up their hands, say "my bad" and let themselves get wiped out. Besides, the point of the video was to explain how the Darkseekers could have most effectively leveraged the tools and information they had to beat Doc Neville with minimum losses, so saying "leave Neville alone, he's the last human, he's unstable, he's trying to find a cure and do good" is stupid, particularly because none of those are valid reasons for the Darkseekers not to want him out of the picture.
Well the video said that they have constant amounts of adrenaline pumping in them and in the movie it shows them huddling like their resting so i guess they don't sleep but just rest.
Would like to see How to Beat: -Mirrors -Cloverfield -10 Cloverfield Lane -Hostel And maybe some classics -Jason Voorhees -Leatherface -Chucky -Freddy Krueger -Silent Hill -Resident Evil
Bruh how is he bad if he killing stuff tht literally made ppl cry n die n took their body with out consent?? All he did was kill non existance of life aka the virus controlling them tbh if i was one of them i wld of gladly love for him to set my body free from those stuff they did
1:29 The dark seekers made that trap? I always assumed it was Neville's trap that he forgot about during his weird loneliness induced insanity episode.
i like this idea, the whole villains point of view thing, you should do it more. Though i feel like this videos missing something.....Oh yeah cannibalism
This is such a cool idea for a video. The movie kind of butchered the book's message, but this video is both interesting in the same context as your other videos, but also includes a bit of book information that I think helps bring some attention to the story's true meaning.
I think Dr Neville deserves praise - he basically won at the apocalypse, and was doing his best to stop it. Darkseekers won't survive long as a species; unless they get recovered with his help, they will die, and whole human civilization will fall.
I think you should take into consideration the amount of time you can store fuel for. You can store cooled fuel for 6 months before it starts to lose its quality, half of that when you don't cool it. I think it's safe to assume that he shouldn't be able to drive at all after 3 years.
Could drive around like crazy/loud as he wants, to intimidate, but have a Hybrid at a staging spot to take him to a pier/boat and cross the water to his base, minimizing noise and scent and true destination. BOOM! Can also have his staging spot rigged so that he can tell if someone was messing with it, i.e. tracking him, so he knows to change spot, strategy and/or ambush, eliminating threats. Double BOOM!! Also, at his home base, could of set up an entrance at one end of the building, (those homes have neighboring walls) and had set up doors between all of them, like some hotel rooms, so that he lives at the other end of the building (2nd to end to have a buffer, extra time, staging area for bug out gear, etc.) with also a final escape plan, like in the movie, thru a tunnel or even a zip line on top of the building to another one out back, a block away, even longer, while they are going crazy inside tearing up the entrance at one end and he can escape with time and warning from the other end. Triple BOOM!!! Feel free to use any of these. But you pretty much nailed it on trapping him, with time, consistency and a plan.
So glad to see the books getting some mention. I read them before the movie came out and I was just so confused, its like it wasn't even the same story.
He wanted to die with his family he just waited until he made a cure after that he wanted to die so he decided to kill himself and made sure he took them out with him this is a more realistic and human option for me to be honest imagine everybody you knew died your family your friends everybody I wouldn’t want to live anymore in all honestly am surprised he wanted to make the cure more then he wanted to die but that’s why he’s a goat 🐐
Or knifes and sharp objects and get him into corner where he wouldnt escape, he cant keep on killing em since he doesnt have unlimited ammo,(rare to happen in movie). All it would take to kill him would be few stab wounds in stomach or one in the neck
Even though sam died, her dedication is unmatched even by humans, she was outnumbered and at a disadvantage by size and strength but non the less she fought to protect her friend. Her selflessness saved his life and turned the tide in his favor at the cost of her own. We live in a world that is self centered and more so now then ever a disconnection from one another, we can all learn a thing or two from the fictional Sam
I'm not sure if this was covered but this is why the story is called "I am Legend" because at the end of the story he final realizes that he is the monster that comes during the day and takes their people away and eventually kills them. He's the monster and their legend that they tell to their children about in cautionary tells. Hes besically their boogie man
Quick input on the scene at 1:28 I don't believe that trap was set up by the darkseekers, but rather by Neville himself. His declining mental state would have caused him to forget about having moved Fred to a new position at the least. The emotions he experienced from discovering Fred would have then further distracted him from the trap he had laid out in order to find a new test subject.
Wait constant adrenalin sounds like they would die in minutes of cardiac arres (I don't know how to right it) before they die of uv radiation and it doesn't look like they blink so that's also blindsnes for their 45minutes of existance .
They're Mutated so their organs don't act in a Human way Blindness is probably almost right through at least they have extremely vulnerability to light
I never thought about how smart the darkseekers are. They litterally set a trap and I thought it was Neville's that he had forgotten about. That's horrifying

I can't stress enough how I think the alternate ending was the superior ending. Neville realizing that he was the real monster all along was the whole point of the book, but that ending didn't do well with test audiences who clearly never read it.

I know this might be a major stretch but it seems like a neat idea
they cannot speak english
I can't read that with that cute dog looking at me
This was an issue I had with the book.
@@theguileraven7014 yup personally I day that the film should have been more like the book with regular humans who just die of sunlight
I was just looking at your channel, thinking "It's been a week since he last uploaded, one is bound to come out soon!"

Biggest thing to account for: Vinegar has a strong scent. That would have been my FIRST clue
"...Wait why is there a strong, acrid smell here? Imma follow it and see what's up. Oh hey there's that fuck's truck!"
Then just hide in the truck (since he thinks you're stupid, he likely doesn't lock up the vehicles so he can easily jump into them in case of an emergency), cover myself in the back, then attack him when he comes in the day. Or rather have a scout in the truck ready to attack. Others stay in the buildings nearby and prepare for war in case the scout fails their mission
the solution is..... SUNSCREEN!

I mean of course there's reason and such But even with the reason I don't see a point in trying to beat him because:
Plus even had he not done all these things to the darkseekers, they’d have still attacked him. He’s defending himself.
You don't see a reason to try and take out a guy who slaughters you by the hundreds?
You realise this was from the POV of the zombie-vampire dudes right? They were trying to beat Will Smith because he's been kidnapping them, experimenting on them, and killing them, for three years. You're saying they shouldn't try to kill him because he's "doing good on his own terms"?
Hellfire Heroes They attacked first
@@SpicyDeddy because that's their nature.
Aren't most of the darkseekers sleeping throughout the day?
They can't stay up all day AND all night, they need to sleep
Well the video said that they have constant amounts of adrenaline pumping in them and in the movie it shows them huddling like their resting so i guess they don't sleep but just rest.
They probably pass out and wake when they get too tired.
They can take turns

i like this idea, the whole villains point of view thing, you should do it more. Though i feel like this videos missing something.....Oh yeah cannibalism
The thing is the villain in this story is Neville, so the POV is from the darkseekers because they are less evil
There's no need for cannibalism since New York is overrun with tasty wild animals to hunt

This is such a cool idea for a video. The movie kind of butchered the book's message, but this video is both interesting in the same context as your other videos, but also includes a bit of book information that I think helps bring some attention to the story's true meaning.
As a darkseeker, we need more guides like this. Keep it up, I subbed!
DO A HOW TO BEAT THE MAZE RUNNER🙏🏾
I think Dr Neville deserves praise - he basically won at the apocalypse, and was doing his best to stop it. Darkseekers won't survive long as a species; unless they get recovered with his help, they will die, and whole human civilization will fall.
Agreed
"In the movie alternate ending"
Hate to sound rude but I think you mean actual ending
But you pretty much nailed it on trapping him, with time, consistency and a plan.

well neville could survive this if only he would throw grenade and hide in that secret room but i guess "the plot™"

Lmao, i remember watching this movie when i was seven years old and was afraid to go to bed because i thought they would've come and get me.
I'll just leave my girl, that Dr Neville guy is a dangerous fella
I'm not sure if this was covered but this is why the story is called "I am Legend" because at the end of the story he final realizes that he is the monster that comes during the day and takes their people away and eventually kills them. He's the monster and their legend that they tell to their children about in cautionary tells. Hes besically their boogie man
Be me, a Darkseeker watching this RUclips video: Wow, this is very informative!
The Blu-Ray Edition of the movie you can choose 2 different endings, which a specific scene at the beginning of the movie causes a different ending.
Quick input on the scene at 1:28
I don't believe that trap was set up by the darkseekers, but rather by Neville himself. His declining mental state would have caused him to forget about having moved Fred to a new position at the least. The emotions he experienced from discovering Fred would have then further distracted him from the trap he had laid out in order to find a new test subject.
Wait constant adrenalin sounds like they would die in minutes of cardiac arres (I don't know how to right it) before they die of uv radiation and it doesn't look like they blink so that's also blindsnes for their 45minutes of existance
