I guess the Thing is a Christmas movie now? Hell yeah.
Snow = christmas
It's a story with snow, coming together, surprise gifts and learning to trust each other. Basically it's the grinch with murder.

One of the most genius movies in many senses of the word. The effects, the music, the absurd tension, paranoia, terror... everything is top notch. Hands down one of the best movies ever.
God I remember the 'thing' after being reduced to a mere head and four legs trying to not-so-subtly scurry away like no one was going to notice lol! The expressions on their face when they turned to look at it was priceless!

I remember the blood-test by hot needle scene. That was a real jumpscare.
It works so well because we are lead to believe Clark was a Thing because he spent so much time with the Dog Thing and he let it explore the base unimpeded. Blair even tells MacReady to watch him and Clark is the one who tries to kill MacReady with a scapel when he is enforcing the blood test at gunpoint. But Clark's blood comes up as negative, something Childs points out and MacReady even looks over at Clark's body like he is starting to question whether this test even works. So we are lured into a sense of thinking MacReady is being paranoid and is possibly wrong about his theory before Palmer's blood reacts to the hot needle.

5:09 Distrust of each other is the key element of the movie, as the predator/alien/threat can completely mimic and hide within the appearance of anyone. If you remove that element of distrust, you remove all the suspense. It's why this movie is so clever, terrifying, and well done!
🤦♂️ The Video is literally about HOW TO SURVIVE THE THING, not how to change the Movie.
I would have loved to have a computer game based off The Thing. But to a great extent, The Thing is fvcked if the protagonist knows about it in advance.
I liked Macready's plan on how to flush out the alien: when Mac and the others found out that Blair got back inside and blew the generator, he realizes that the Blair-Thing plans to freeze himself til a rescue team arrives, starting the process all over again. Mac knows they won't survive, but they they blow up the camp to flush out the alien and kill it once and for all.
To be fair, it was kinda his fault there was a Blair thing in the first place.
In the event Hollywood attempts to make a movie adaptation of the game "Among Us", they should look at this classic film
If you look at game theory, the thing is a major inspiration for the imposters in among us.
Polus map is basically the American camp.

This movie was awesome.
The only thing that's ever really bothered me is that they should have known something was wrong with that "dog"
the second they put it in the kennel.
Those other dogs should have been going absolutely apeshit the minute they caught its scent.
If the thing was biologically a dog would its scent be really any different then other dogs
It may smell like a dog but the other dogs will probably recognize it's malicious intent and go apeshit at that
@@jeambeam3173
A valid question.
Biologically, I don't think it's ever anything but the Thing, regardless of appearance.
It was shown to have a different cellular structure than its host.
I would assume that means organic compounds that provide chemical by-products
different enough from any known scent that the dogs would have at least been curious
enough to investigate. A creature can hide a lot of things. But it can't hide its chemical exhaust.
Plot wise, I also suspect that may be why the dogs were removed from the equation so early in the
story. I just think it would have made more sense if the alien had snuck into the kennel and killed the dogs
while it was allowed to roam around earlier in the day. That would have been the easier fix.
I mean, the other dogs DID all start growling and backing away the second after Copper locked the kennel & left.
Plus how were the people supposed to guess the dog’s odd behavior was because “it’s an alien monster” and not just “it’s still kinda spooked from being shot at by a dude in a helicopter”?
I think alien replicated the cells so well that it can even hid from keen animals like dogs
This movie has a whole lot of “nope” in it

The only thing that the thing will assimilate is my laziness and procrastination.
Assimilate the world? Nah don’t wanna maybe another day. Just get me my snacks and stable internet connection and we are good.
But grammar?
I suspect testing everyone whenever they come and go would be a little harder than making some people wear their facemasks to get into my shop
loved this movie beginning to end, great pacing without being too slow where you get bored or throwing everything at you at once to overwhelm.
Honestly when dr Blair did go insane and wreck every communication and trasporation, it would make it a lot harder for the thing to spread and basically meant that it was now isolated to the camp, which is a good thing becuase like they did in the movie you can blow up the entire camp room for room and root the thing out. Because by the end they know that they have to make sure that everything is purged so it makes sense to torch the entire place.
Yes that is literally why he does it, he sees the computers projection that it would eventually take over the world if it reached civilisation and destroys all their communications and transport to prevent that.
Happy holidays. This is hype!

“Let’s just rush him. He can’t blow us all up!”
My favorite line in this, my favorite movie
Doesn’t he drink gasoline at the end? Instead of it being whiskey?
Some people still debate on that thinking it’s another Molotov or a final bottle to enjoy the end. Those that say it was a molotov reason Mcready did that knowingly at the end to see if child’s reacts to the mixture and when he doesn’t mcready laughs since it unknowingly gave itself away
@@arecipeforhate193 interesting. I haven’t seen the sequel which from other comments I read it said child’s wasn’t the creature after all... but I like the ambiguous ending 😊
There's multiple interpretations. It's definitely not gasoline because the Thing would mimic human tastebuds and know the difference. But it's still suspicious though because the infection can be passed through saliva.
It's possible that Childs was a Thing and didn't care about the infection, so he took a sip and Mac laughed because he exposed him.
Or Childs wasn't a Thing but thought he'd die anyway and didn't really care at that point and Mac laughed because he incorrectly thought he exposed him.
Or Mac was a Thing and infected Childs, and laughed because he infected him.
Or the massive hot take: they were both Things but neither of them realized the other one was, since it doesn't seem to be a hivemind.
Yes he’s sharing a drink to infect Childs

How to tell a thing? Take a cigarette and put it out on a friend. The skin of thing will react.
The thing imitating as a friend would know better to not react. Only a small enough bio mass of them will be “less intelligent” enough to expose itself

I heard a rumor that a way to tell if someone has been thing'd is to check their eyes. The Thing won't have that glint that most people have.
it's fake. It just applies to the blood test scene.
@@FireKobra Ahh alright. Also I remembered it was RLM who mentioned it.
9:49 the problem is that the rescue team isn't coming in "a few days" like you said, in the film after Blair destroyed the hardware for the radio communications, Garry said that no one was coming until spring so they had to hold up until then, but when these events happened, it was, according to Mac, the "first damn week of winter." So you see, that's three months in extreme weather, especially since the Thing blew up the generator.
I only just now realized the significance of that noose in the shack with Blair....
Everyone always asks what is the Thing but no one asks how is the Thing. Maybe that's why he's so upset and hostile.

The one movie where not sticking together may be a good idea. That could still be dangerous but not if you’re only out to survive solely.
I would love to see your your take on "At the mountains of madness", the godfather of it all.
I can watch your Videos on The Thing all day. I wish there was more videos that can be done on this movie
This type of films (some kind of monster hunting a team of people in some remote and isolated camp-like facility or larger vechicle, usually a huge space ship) has always the logical flaw that the most rational and safest thing would be to stay tight together as a group and not separate, but no, every man/woman walking around for themselves and the monster (never actually seen properly, it's always half-dark, somehow lights starts to blink when it attacks, smoke/steam pours out from somewhere etc) can decimate the group one by by one, always sneaking up practically from nowhere. But then the theme would not work., would it.
The thing could just play a different game if that were the case. In reality they were screwed from the start, they didn’t have any heads up and it’s kind of hard in real life to realize and grasp there’s an alien pathogen that mimics any life form and likes to brutally murder you and eat you when you alone or if you piss a replica off. That alone would destroy most mentally and would cause distrust and terrible decision making, even if they were all in a room the thing could choose to run away and hide and plan a way to take them out another way.
Wilford Brimley's diabetic freakout in the radio room was the best part for me.
I’ve forgotten most of this movie and it deserves a rewatch. Great video 👍🏼

Remember Windows couldn't reach anybody for weeks because of the weather and rescue team never was contacted? It was implied they would come eventually but this was just at the beginning of Winter. Impossible to really know when they will arrive certainly not days.
In reality you have hours in that harsh environment. The biggest hurdle in the movie you never know who is the thing ultimately. It was left intentionally ambiguous by the Director. The Paranoia this monster creates makes any attempt to control it impossible. Good Video
Apparently filming was delayed for this film due to weather for multiple months. John Carpenter had a ton of time to perfect the script and scene direction. It shows. Every part of this film, every scene, every second of it matters. I absolutely love this movie. Easily my favorite horror movie.

The hot needle trick is so good, I'll just poke everyone with it and I'd know which is the thing
I take one issue with the intro- us Norwegians are taught english from year one in school. We are heavily influenced by the UK and in its sphere of influence. The British have been our allies for hundreds of years and they bailed us out of a few invasions. Its very unlikely a base of Norwegian scientists positioned next to an American base wouldn’t be able to speak english.
Edit- I just googled it and 90% of Norwegians speak english. Most of the people who can’t are our indigenous Sami people in the far far north. Considering the scientists are probably from big cities like Bergen, Oslo etc most Norwegians speak better english than americans so the scientists for sure would’ve been able to speak english.
Childs isn't assimilated until the comics that continue the film
I absolutely love this film. They should make another film. With less CGI.🥶❄️💀
This is basically meet the pyro at this point
