Yeah, but I mean, come on. Every time the topic arises about overseas deployment in any government of Earth, the immediate response is 'why are we going there, let them deal with their own problems, bring our people home' from a majority of the opposition and the populace. And then we're also supposed to believe that China, India, Russia, the US, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Africa, Israel, Ukraine, and South Korea (+ the rest of the world), sat down at one table and decided, 'yep, fuck it, we're going to set aside all our differences and work together to waste our resources and reduce our population for a bunch of people we could really case less about since they don't exist on the same planet. While we're at it, why don't we just disarm our thousands of nuclear missiles, join hands and do a merry dance around the roses.'
And then even more importantly, why the hell would anyone go along with a draft for no reason? You can't enforce a draft when most of your military is lying dead in the future. Trying to do so would be political suicide. And politicians *love* being re-elected.
Basically, the movie make no sense. Even the horrible government response makes no sense.

Thought they are vicious looking I can’t help but think of a real world narrative that it may be portraying, that being that if we simply put the stereotypical “evil white racissss” as the alien then the message of the movie Hollywood is trying to get across is this: “since it’s somehow certain racists will take over and consume the world in the near future we must develop a biological virus to kill them (non-left white folks) specifically, in the present day before it’s too late” the same theme is in many movies, it’s a form of anti-nazi fear porn for progressives.

I think the idea is we have multiple timelines and they are only able to connect to 2 (themselves and one other). The timeline they are connected with only has a few similarities. "Time is always flowing" There future is a path of many that did and did not happen. They could prepare them for war but that does not fix their timeline.. Their timeline is completely different and it already happened. This is why in the end nothing really changed. People still remembered everything about the other timeline. I would assume this is because that timeline is one of the many possibilities.
Or its just a movie.. Still fun idea.
The future timeline is somewhat of a bad guy when you think about it. They are sending people to death to help them.. A timeline that those dying for have nothing to do with but are made to believe they do. This became obvious at the end when that timeline lost.

Roanoke Gaming did an excellent breakdown of the Whitespikes and posited that they were developed on Earth by aliens splicing together material from ants and larger, predatory mammals and that Earth wasn't necessarily their target. If they wanted to conquer Earth back then, they could easily do so via conventional forces given we lacked guns and nukes and resultingly they could have a nice colony world with lots of wildlife to study and develop more refined and terrifying bioweapons from. It was likely (in his mind) that the Whitespikes were being prepped for transport elsewhere, either another planet the aliens intended to clear out or to be dumped on an invading enemy.

I believe I know why the Whitespikes where "less threatening" in the battle at Deepswell than earlier than in the movie. If you noticed, everyone is using small arms which doesn't do much damage to the Whitespikes armor. But at Deepswell, the base is defended not only by 50 cals but by CWIS which is designed to kill missiles and fighter craft. A significant leap from small arms rifles. Plus once the base gets overrun it is obvious that they are not only losing from numbers but because almost no Whitespike can be killed due to the regular soldiers using lower caliber weapons.

    I'd hate to do this...
    First:
This movie didn't insult your intelligence. They didn't down talk you as if they're high on pedestals by doing a ton of techno babble then "dumbing" it down for every one.
Everyone... almost everyone can tell the difference between rounds and their power in pistols, rifles, marksman rifles, and fixed guns. A soldier's rifle round wouldn't leave a mark as hard hitting as rounds fired by aircraft. So no, I didn't need an explanation why A.I. controlled aircraft could easily take down a white spike vs a soldier with a 9mm.
    Second:
The jump link was akin to a ladder on solid ground that ends at the upstairs bedroom window... if the ladder doesn't move you'll always end up at the BR window... if you climb down you'll always end up on the ground... you'll never find yourself suddenly on the roof or in the basement. As time ticks away on one side of the ladder the same pace of time is occurring on the other...
If reports of the last lab was being attacked in the future real time then in real time they need to rush... as opposed to conventional time travel there would be no urgency.

I think you forgot the fact that they said that time is fluid and keeps moving. 2022 was moving forward at the same rate as 2051 (or whatever time it was) so they did indeed have to move out now in order to save the base in the future as they couldn't be transported to an early date in the future to save the base. Even though the jump whole wasn't always active, it was always connected. The too dates moves forward in time at the same rate.

Actually, the “what’s the rush?” argument of yours is explained in the same scene you showed towards the end of your video with the future soldier explaining that the link is held together with sticks and chewing gum. They also explain in that scene that the gates are either end are like two rafts on the same river following a current. As one boat moves, the other remains the same distance apart (30 years) so time still passes at both ends, regardless of which raft you are on.

8:15 that entirely depends on the basis of how time works in the movie. Which given the rush to save the lab in the future suggests that the present and the future are simultaneously happening. Events in the present don't change the future until a big enough event, like the destruction of the hive, happens and then that future is significantly changed to the point that its erased and the new path of time is made. There's no alternate timelines in this movie universe, just one continuous flow of time

Time travel has always been an illogical concept and frankly speaking pointing out all these flaws makes little sense in a concept that already made little sense. So putting non-existent time-travel logic aside for a science fiction movie, this movie is really about a father and daughter and the connective relationship between them was really the finest point of the movie. I have never cared so much for the main character on a personal level as much as other movies. That is why to me, this is one of the best movies I have seen all year round.

8:10 No. They explained that. They said the time jump they used connected two points in time that moved together (the river explanation you described as asinine, but actually makes sense logically, if feeling contrived). The flow of time still moves both ends of the time jump ahead at the same rate. Meaning any time passing in the 'present' also passed in the 'future'.

I feel like most of your problems have actually been explained. Like, Pratt doesn't just punch it. He shoots it, poisons it, stabs it with multiple items, takes out its eyes, and kicks it off a cliff just to stop the ONE FEMALE. They then explain that the future and past move at the same time, and even then, it obviously isn't the same timeline, more of an alternate one that contacts the past to guide it to the right one. Even if they had weapons, they also have to find out where all the animals appear from, as they breed incredibly fast and random attacks happen at the same time in Siberia, so you would have to take them all down in one strike. Also...the governments acting dumb, realistic. I mean...past two years kinda...proves that part, right? Then, they say the tech is basically scratched together and that they should still be testing it if they weren't just being driven to extinction. A soldier is gonna be really dumb and say it is made out of "gum and chicken wire" instead of specifying what the exact components are. I feel like a lot of your problems could be solved quite easily by watching the movie.

A theory I had at the beginning of the movie for why they had seemingly unlimited ammo (because of how many rounds they fired without having to reload) was that the weapons they had also had the time tech built in them so they just had ammo constantly being pumped into the magazine from some ammunition storage back in time. But this theory was quickly disproven when Chris ran out of ammo and had to use his handgun. Anyways I thought it would be cool to share this theory although wrong, or who knows maybe they have a set amount of bullets they can feed in before their time expires or something🤷‍♂️

Good review. The top issue you point out kills a lot of these type movies. The edge of tomorrow with Tom Cruise had a nice out. They could stay tough and kill the star since he could come back in that story. Then the hero’s get better due to that experience and that explains the skill gap closing as the movie progresses

The time travel mechanic is further blown up when you consider 1 of 2 things is happening:
    1) If these characters are on the same timeline (you can "change the past") then going forward in time makes no sense since you should just devote all resources to the past and be better prepared for the upcoming invasion. More importantly, there is NO way that Emmy Forester was the first person to think "maybe the aliens arrived a long time ago" when everyone knew there was no sign of a ship landing on Earth, which means all resources would absolutely be better spent finding the alien ship in the past and bombing it to completely avert the war.
    2) If these characters are on different timelines, then why would we be sending our people to die in the future? Again, just because they die before 2051 doesn't mean we should be sending our scientists and engineers to their deaths early when we should assume an invasion is imminent and therefore devote our resources to our own salvation. That would be a realistic government decision - why send our people to die in YOUR future when we could use their help to save OUR future?
I enjoyed the movie, but you cannot give it even the least bit of critical thought otherwise it completely collapses.

@nojus baltramiejunas Your explanation makes no sense. My 2 proposals are the mutually exclusive options. Also, even if your solution made sense, once the military got wiped out they wouldn't start conscripting civilians. I think you need to maybe think a little more before trying to insult someone when you're just wrong.

    • @JeebusCripes21

@nojus baltramiejunas dude, you need to go outside. The 2 issues I outlined a year ago are the exact same criticisms that have been around over the last year. I'm not sure why this is difficult to grasp for you, nor am I sure why you are SOOOO mad about it, but this is a simple time travel paradox that basically every movie runs into if the movie introduces time travel.
Now be quiet. You're a very unpleasant person, and you should spend more time thinking about why you're such a jackass before wasting more time failing to grasp a simple time travel problem in a sci-fi movie.

    • @JeebusCripes21
      @JeebusCripes21 Год назад

@nojus baltramiejunas okay I see the problem here. You don't remember the movie. I just went back and even found the time stamp for you because you missed my original comment where I said Emmy would not have been the first person to say "if we didn't see their ship arrive then maybe they were here before their attack."
At 1 hour and 41 minutes into the movie, Chris Pratt is talking to his wife, and they know that the first attack was in northern Russin in 2048, but they never saw a ship land on Earth. She replies with "What if the ship was here before 2048?" That's my whole point. This would have been thoroughly investigated in our timeline LONNNNGGGGGG before we sent people to the future.
Also, none of that matters because you failed to understand the simple point I'm making. My point is about the time travel paradox and nothing else. Time travel in movies works in one of 2 ways: either your actions in the past can change your future, or by entering the past, you create a different branch off of the original timeline. Think of Back to the Future (where Marty's involvement almost killed him because he almost prevented his own birth, aka "the grandfather paradox") vs Avengers Endgame (where they created alternate realities by entering the past). My first solution is about if actions in the last can change the future. If so, it would make much more sense to send the future people back and see if you can "fix" the past without having to fight in the future. The second option is that the kids from the future are actually from an alternate reality from ours, in which case actions in the past won't impact their future. Aka, they have to fight their battle, and we still have to fight ours. This was the course the movie took. However, it's ignoring the reality of the world. Sacrificing our military and civilians means we are left weaker for our inevitable fight with the aliens if that is to be our future as well (which we can't possibly know for sure). There is no way governments would throw all of our essential resources into a losing fight to help an alternate timeline of humanity because then what do we have when our fight comes? Also, we know a ship never landed, and we know where the first attack was that would be the precursor to exterminating humanity. You don't think a single person would have been like, "Maybe we should scope out Russia in our timeline to see if these aliens are already here and lying in wait?" That's the point that you missed entirely. You are so focused on trying to reconcile something that was shown in the movie to be completely unnecessary as they killed like 10 aliens with the toxin, accidentally woke up the whole colony, and then blew up the rest with C4. So the "future solution" was a huge waste of time and resources. See my point? I still enjoyed the movie, but damn dude, sometimes a movie is stupid but still enjoyable.

Most of the reviews on this I've seen are pretty consistent about a few key points. The movie has flaws out the ass and if released during the golden age of Hollywood, it'd probably be a flop that'd be quickly forgotten. But we're not in the golden age of Hollywood and far too many of the movies they're been releasing have been so much worse than this. The movie has a lot of logical flaws but people can still find enjoyment in the action if they just turn their brains off for some mindless fun. Perhaps it's a sign of how bad things are in Hollywood that a movie like this is considered good but the fact remains that despite its flaws, the movie is decent.

Sorry man but the time travel mechanic is pretty easy to grasp and explained in the movie. So scratch that complaint.
