This movie is criminally slept on. I remember watching a couple times when it was in theaters. Honestly one of, if not my favorite, Tom cruise movie. Glad to hear they’re making a second one!
When i saw this in the cinema the whole screening was empty aside from me, my date and an old chap. Anytime Cage killed a alien he would say loudly "fuck em up Tom" made us laugh like maniacs throughout. Loved the movie and was bummed out hearing how it bombed when imp it didn't deserve too.
Yeah its crazy that this movie has almost got made so many times but Tom Cruise's schedule gets too busy, Emily Blunt's schedule gets too busy or even the director Doug Limon's schedule gets too busy like two people out of three could be ready to make this movie but all it takes is one of them to be like sorry I'm not ready yet Lol . seriously at this point you would think they would just give up by this point 😂
One of my favourite all time movies, pretty glad they haven’t done a sequel as the original perfectly wrapped everything up. Any part 2 is just gonna be a re hash / shadow of the original.
I'd love a Vrataski (Verdun) Prequel! This movie is why I don't watch trailers anymore. I went into Edge of Tomorrow knowing nothing about it, completely blind, I knew Tom Cruise was in it and that's all. It blew me away! Bought All You Need Is Kill to read a few days after. "I wish I didn't love it so much, but I do".
what's funny about this movie having a planned sequel that's yet to happen is that the author of All You Need is Kill said back in 2014 that he was working on a sequel and that also has yet to actually happen.

Truly, I feel like so many people didn’t watch any marketing for this movie and were pleasantly surprised by the time loop shananigans, tho for me it almost feels like a fever dream lol
It's frustrating because on one hand, if there's insufficient marketing, nobody will know to see the movie, but on the other hand, more often than not the marketing will either spoil the movie entirely, overhype it (working as intended, I gue$$?) , or completely misrepresents what the film is.
My dad and I saw this in theaters, loved it, then after it released from theaters, we proceeded to digitally rented it for home viewing on 5 separate occasions over the next few years.
Its free on RUclips right now, watched it the other day not knowing anything about it and wow... how have I lived this long and not seen it. Amazing movie
I saw this movie for the first time recently and I thought it was an interesting take on the time travel/alien genre. I originally theorized that everything was taking place in some sort of video game and that the Mimics are aware of that, and that Tom Cruise is made aware of that when he kills the Alpha. But then the movie provides a different explanation that I thought was equally thought-provoking. These Mimics can perceive time as a dimension that they can control, like they've evolved over millions of years to tap into spacetime and manipulate it to ensure that their world-conquering plans succeed. I personally don't see how this could get a sequel because the ending makes it hard unless another Mimic hive-mind just crashes on earth again, and this would be risky because the sequel would just seem like a cut-and-dry retelling of the first one. But if a sequel does get made, I'll still watch it.
I never heard of this movie until it was out on YT movies for free. The comment section convinced me to watch and boy was I glad I did. So fun and loved the humor as well. Watch it twice in a row.
A small little correction: You said that the aliens saw time as a 5th dimension. This is kinda true, but its a bit weirder than that. We live in what is usually called a 3+1 universe. This means 3 spacial dimensions + 1 time dimension. The movie sort of implies that the aliens exist in a 3+2 universe and them interacting with us is just an "intersection" between our 1d time and their 2d time. A time loop would therefore just be a 2d circle filled in circle intersecting with a 1d line. Its not really looping across universes as much as it is traveling through time's second dimension. This sounds really confusing, but it really is just a filled in circle intersecting with like, a number line. So, when the movie ends, the loop ends because the 2d circle has stopped intersecting with their timeline. Why did I correct this? Well, I had to do a written paper in my field (physics) about unanswered questions. I foolishly chose string theory and time and it destroyed me. I need to use the information gained _somehow._ Also, string theory is bs, its just mathmaticians saying "We can do this thing!" Without it actually being proven that the math corresponds to anything. I hate it. Its dumb.
@cosmictreason2242 Oh! Sorry, to be clear, I am a physicist. This paper was for a physics class within my major. I wouldn't be comfortable correcting them if I were in some unrelated field. But also, the number of times I've tried to cite a paper, but realized their math was wrong is _faar_ higher than you'd like. It's really bad in theoretical physics, they'll mess up their math and come to a broad conclusion. Usually, it's in a lower tier of journal/publishing, but it's still awful. They'll have a PhD and mess up some derivative or integral or differentiation and just... it's not hard to have a calculator do it, man!
@ewfse364u35jh It's worth noting that the universe is under no obligation to make sense. See: Quantum Mechanics. Beyond the mystical bs, this comes from a legitimate place where quantum particles do not behave like anything else in the universe. They'll choose paths after they traveled them, they have their own system of gravity, and the basic equations we use have zero connection to the rest of physics (Schrödinger Equation). You also get stuff like it acting both as a wave and a particle, the velocity being the cosmic limit, photons having zero mass yet having the ability to impart kinetic energy and just... so, so, so much more. I bring this up to mention that any time we say something is improbable or shouldn't be possible or even necessary, that means nothing for what the universe actually is. It is the greatest amazement and frustration of physics.
@ewfse364u35jh Okay, so, you may need to go back and study the topic a bit more, as well as do some fundementals of science research. I mean, from a physics perspective at the very minimum: Time does exist, it exists as described, what it is has been the question. But what's funny is that you describe that time exists, sorta describe why it exists, but then say it doesn't exist. Keep in mind, mass is a form of energy. Energy changes. These changes have a dimension of travel, which is time. There is no known boson for time though, which makes it a bit weird as to describe _what_ time is. Photons don't have mass and there's no reason they should. Understand that mass is just a physical property that is informed by a particle (Higgs boson, which was discovered in 2012). So, you'd essentially have to argue that photons have a Higgs Boson. This seems quite unlikely as it is itself a fundamental boson, which are carriers of forces and are thus nonmaterial (not matter and without mass). Other particles in this category include gluons (strong nuclear force), Z bosons, and W bosons (both form the weak nuclear forces). Photons are the vector boson of electromagnetism. Mass, a fundmental boson in of itself, is actually scalar rather than vector. I'm not gonna go point by point because I believe my point has been made - you are woefully misinformed on this topic. Now! This isn't meant to be saying you're bad, just that you shouldn't try to speak authoritatively on a subject you don't understand. Learn more, it's fascinating. I personally love making Interferometers, though the first time setting one up is annoying. These can be used to prove a variety of concepts to yourself! For example, you can show photons "choose" a path only after it matters which path is taken (See: Quantum bomb tester) Also, I think we need to sit down and talk about what a theory is as you are correct in saying these are theories, but you are incorrect in making a distinction between these and facts. In science, it's impossible to say anything with 100% certainty. Theories are just the best current model. They are rigorously tested and have multiple layers of confirmation, including using them to predict undiscovered phenomena (think of things like gravity waves or the Higgs Boson). Mostly, we kinda just say these models are "close enough." This means these theories are just imperfect or don't account for certain edge cases. Think of general relativity; it's accurate and correct 99.9% of the time, but there are exceptions that we know of and can solve for, but can't connect back to the rest of physics yet. Oh! BTW! What I said wasn't meant to be a reply to your whole thing, it was just replying to the idea that these things don't make sense. My response was "Yep! But don't worry, that's just how it is. It never makes sense. Here are some examples."
I just saw the movie last night, and like you, I didn't know a thing about it. I guess that's why I really loved it !! After watching the movie, I said to myself, "How could I have let this slip by me !? Totally agree with a lot you said, there were a few dragging moments, but I can argue about it being necessary storytelling one should pay attention to.. The acting is head-on, picking the perfect people for their perfect parts. Tom Cruise hit our of the park, for "I'm not a combat person", to kicking ass... Well, I guess you can tell, I loved it !! If a sequel does come out, let's keep it the same feeling..
I saw this movie without knowing what it was, just picked a random movie for a date I was going on. Ended up loving it so much and being bummed about having to entertain a date to the point wherein I bought another ticket and went to go see it again by myself the next day. It's easily one of my favorite movies ever. My explanation of the ending is human biology can interface with their time travel triggering mechanism, but obviously we are not capable of the actual time travel mechanism the Omega does. So throughout the movie, he is dying and the Omega is triggering the reset. At the end of the movie, he blows up the Omega but its blood mixes with his as both are dying. The Omega initiates a restart in its dying moments, which puts him 24hrs prior to that (it moved the reset point to earlier than it is during most of the movie) but he is now the new Omega. Because our biology doesn't support the communication/neural link aspect of the aliens, all of the aliens now just aimlessly wander and are easily defeated as they have no entity controlling them. He "stole" the role of the Omega but cannot reset time himself and cannot control the aliens so he is sorta back to normal minus implications that his biology is altered in ways that may be exploitable by a sequel if they ever make one.
May be late, but I can explain the Time loop. In booth the Movie and Manga (To an extent) it's explained that the loop is just that. A loop. No extra timelines or alternate realities. When it resets to the beginning it just rewinds time. Just wanted to clarify that as now you have one less plot hole to think about.
Love this movie. You hit on one of the concepts that I really love. When Rita shoots Cage each time to reset the day, I assume that the day continues for her until she dies on the beach. This sets up one of the most emotionally impactful beats of the film later when we realize that she barely knows Cage because this is her first time through the loop but he loves her. That suddenly clicks for her and she kisses him.
One of the rare occasions where a sci fi adaptation is done really well. I love re-watching this movie whenever I can because it mixes a good story with action. I had no idea it was based on an Anime though, great find!
Saw this on a WalMart TV and had no idea what it was called, then I happened across it a while later. I really liked this movie, especially after finding out its name and being able to watch it all the way through.
Something tells me the original ending was scrapped because mega-star Tom Cruise had to be the one to save the day and no way he was letting that focus leave him, kind of like in the Mummy movie, however unlike the Mummy movie that NEEDED more to come from it this movie did not.
That was the major problem for me. I don't know if Tom Cruise wanted the limelight or the studio wanted him to have it. But when it became a 'Tom Cruise standard issue' movie, I lost interest.
Iirc, in the original manga the ending is a lot drearier. The best way to put it is in All you Need is Kill, the mimics essentially work in 2 phases, a "server" whose consciousness is emitted on death in a tachyon burst to start the loop reset, and an "antenna" to receive and perform the reset. In the manga, rita becomes an antenna after her server status is severed becoming paramount to the Cage's (or in the manga Keiji's) ability to loop reset. Additionally antennae get to keep their memories as well as a kind of backup. In the manga, to end the loops and their threat, Cage has to kill Rita as being one is passive and without one's control, so as long as she lives the mimics have a way to restart the loop. So only in the movie does he get the girl.
Love this flick! Emily Blunt aka "Angel of Verdun" aka "Full Metal Bitch" is perfect for her role. Highly rewatchable. If you haven't seen it yet, make it your next movie. It does not need a sequel. If one is made I hope there's passion and love behind it and not a cash grab.
Saw it on the big screen and told my buds you have to go see it. A great performance by Cruise playing against type. The alien design was a little ho hum but the concept was a lot of fun and hey Bill Paxton having a ball is just the icing on the cake !! Would love a sequel 💯

This is totally the video for me even though I didn't think this movie needed a sequel or franchise. I absolutely love this film and was satisfied with its ending, I didn't need more. That being said I'm interested to see what they do with this sequel.
Great movie, it grows on you the more you watch it. It’s very nuanced. I’m torn over a sequel, but it’s Tom Cruise, the guy rarely skips a beat. Frankly, the Mummy was waaaaaay better than people gave it credit for
My buddy and o walked into the theaters blind on this one, not seeing one ad or anything, just based on Cruise + Science Fiction, and at one point we literally looked at each other with surprised looks, like this movie kicks fkn ass!
I watched this the first time on an airplane, and the pilot shut off the system at the ending! I was so enthralled that I looked forward to flight home. Epic movie.
Definitely one of my favourite movies of all time. Oblivion was also a killer Tom Cruise movie that I've watched many times and will watch again and again and....
I loved Edge of Tomorrow and still watch it from time to time for it's broader concept of alien invasion, and now can't wait for its sequel. Tom Cruise is a brilliant actor, and his private life should always remain private from his "movie star" life.
One of the coolest parts of the movie, is in the end you realize he actually earned his rank without anyone but her realizing what he had accomplished.
Super under--rated movie! I loved watching it so much I ended up reading the manga it was originally based on, then a translation of the novel. The changes they made to the story for adapting were fascinating (for example, their mechanic friend was a woman, and there was a side plot with a female nurse love interest in the OG version). But the film is a solid blockbuster and really narrows down to the core two characters while having comedy to balance out the grimness and action sequences. The time loop aspect is also very well written and feels cohesive. Good stuff.
No movie is perfect, and time loop ones can have all manner of problems with them. I've seen many of these kinds of loop movies, and EOT stands out as my favourite. Yes, there are holes here and there, but overall it's a nice solid movie I can re-watch, since it's emotional tone and action are sufficiently well-written that even after 10 or 15 re-watches, I still get a lot of enjoyment from the movie. The cast are all well-suited to their parts, with the likes of Kimmel and Griff feeling very grounded and "plausible" support characters. Bill Paxton does well until he devolves into that "frightened child" thing on the battlefield, which is something I think demeans and ruins his character. Other than that, I think Bill seemed to enjoy his role as Master Sergeant Farrell. 😀
My favorite is the fact that when the first Alpha dies it’s in slow motion and the only slow motion shot in the film. I believe that’s to showcase the transfer the time loop from the mimics to Cage.
This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. It's sad that it didn't do well in theaters. The marketing played a big part in that. I didn't see it in theaters even though this kind of movie is exactly the kind I like seeing in theaters. Regardless, I'm glad to see others appreciate it as well. I'm all for a sequel. I think there could still be some more story to tell.
Another important thing to understand is that when Emily Blunt asks Tom Cruise “Is there something stuck to my face?” That is a suer classic trope from manga and anime that didn’t get cleaned from the script. I was so happy to see such a unique Japanese-ism not get deleted from the screenplay.😊
I went into cinema, and randomly decided to watch it, without knowing anything about it. It was amazing, top 5 sci-fi movies ever for me. Not sure if a want a sequel, since it was near perfect
I wrote a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow that involved the entire movie happening during and alongside the first film. Basically, it involves other people that got blue goo on them and kept reliving the same day and their contributions to helping winning the war. Cruise was only a side background character in my version and that allowed the sequel to be made soon without having to worry about Cruise’s work schedule.
I loved this movie just for his thousand yard, "I've tried to save everyone, now it just needs to end" levels of given up, and the sergeant that greets him sees that. "ON YOUR FEET MAGGOT!" looks in his eyes, and has that look of "Oh, this is not someone that should be that rank with that look"

Wow, very anime "there is darkness within me". Wonder what was the original light novels ending because the wiki says it was different
Nevermind found the ending a few comments down
Edge of Tomorrow was sooooo good.
The biggest disservice to timetravle is the idea of multiple timelines.
I loved both this movie and oblivion. Criminally underrated
Oblivion was an awesome movie.
3:37 To see my town name in the sign behind the reporter threw me off so much lol I forgot that was in the movie
Thank you for this video. I absolutely love this movie. So underrated I wish they’d make another one
I loved the movie. Terrific film, criminally underrated. Like Dredd 2012
Dredd 2012 wow was it that long ago shitttt . Amazing film so good .
Karl urban crushed it
May be late, but I can explain the Time loop. In booth the Movie and Manga (To an extent) it's explained that the loop is just that. A loop. No extra timelines or alternate realities. When it resets to the beginning it just rewinds time. Just wanted to clarify that as now you have one less plot hole to think about.
just found this channel and im happy to hear someone talk about this movie positively , i also love the format you got a sub
I have watched this movie several times and it never gets boring. It’s super well done on all aspects.
One of the rare occasions where a sci fi adaptation is done really well. I love re-watching this movie whenever I can because it mixes a good story with action. I had no idea it was based on an Anime though, great find!
i love this movie. it's insane that few people knows about it.
Super stoked to get a sequel !!
I can still feel my legs !
Saw this on a WalMart TV and had no idea what it was called, then I happened across it a while later. I really liked this movie, especially after finding out its name and being able to watch it all the way through.
The title of you vid intrigued
me.
Edit- as always your vids are great. Did not know this movie was getting a sequel.
@@rexex345yeah the end of the novel was pretty sad. I remember reading it way back before seeing the movie and wondering how to film was going to end.
One of my favourite sci-fi films, and I'm glad it's a stand-alone one.
I saw this movie opening week on a whim and had the theater to myself. Such an underrated film!
This was a really good movie. Always think that this was so underrated.
It was a solid stand-alone action movie. I actually watched it the other day and enjoyed it haha
Saw it on the big screen and told my buds you have to go see it. A great performance by Cruise playing against type. The alien design was a little ho hum but the concept was a lot of fun and hey Bill Paxton having a ball is just the icing on the cake !! Would love a sequel 💯
DUDE, I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I LOVE THIS MOVIE TO DEATH, IT'S A TOP-TIER 100% REWATCHABLE AWESOME TIME TRAVEL MOVIE ALONG WITH THE BTTF TRILOGY! WHICH IS SAYING A LOT BECAUSE I DON'T JUST WATCH ANYTHING, I'M VERY PICKY! BUT LIKE YESSSS THANK YOU FOR SPREADING MORE LOVE ABOUT THIS!!! I really wish it could've got a sequel ❤❤❤
I DIDN'T READ WHAT YOU TYPED
50 First Dates was a cool twist on this concept.
This is actually one of my favorite movies.
One of my favorite movies
It's one of my favorite sci-fi films.
The worst thing that could happen is that a sequel is made, and it's called Edge of 2Morrow.
Like Fan4stic
I think this probably my favourite movie. Seen it about 8,9 maybe 10 times. I even watched it twice back 2 back
This is one of the best action films I've ever seen
It will eventually catch on. One of the best sci fi offerings ever.
Just watched your planet of the apes trilogy video, underrated and one of my favourites. This was also one of my favourites.
I absolutely love this movie, but honestly was perfectly fine with it just being a solid standalone movie. Not everything needs to be a franchise
I love this movie and as much as I like more I think it should be left as is with one film
Good stuff.
One of my most favorite movies
‼️‼️ My all time favourite ‼️‼️
Cruise movie
One of my favourites
This movie is one of my favorites!
My favorite is the fact that when the first Alpha dies it’s in slow motion and the only slow motion shot in the film. I believe that’s to showcase the transfer the time loop from the mimics to Cage.
I love it when the MC goes "don't fear the reaper".
Im really sad i never saw this movie on release to give it the support and love it deserves.
Edge Of Tomorrow is one of the best time travel movies ever. It’s also on of Cruise’s. For me it runs 1 and 2 with The Source Code. I really love it.
Oh wow thanks for uncovering the memory that my husband and I saw this in theaters while we dated 😂 Fun! 👏🏻
I watched this movie blind with my GF, didn't see any trailer or plot synopsis.
Was a wonderful experience
This is one of my favorite movies. I hope there is a new one that is even close to as good.
I've watched this movie at least ten times. It's so good.
I’m not even a big Tom Cruise fan but I really like this movie and I’ve watched it about 20 times
I love edge of tomorrow. Always have such a good movie.
This movie was great watched to just watch something and watched it multiple times since then and bought it on blu ray great movie must watch
Edge of Tomorrow has been one of my favorite movies man
This movie is underrated as hell and deserves a sequel
Adjustment Bureau is sick as Fuck also!!
One of Cruise's best films!
I love this movie and is always a rewatch. One major reason for me is a PS3 game I loved playing. It has RESISTANCE FALL OF MAN vibes.
2014 was such a great year for movies! This and X-Men: Days of Future Past were tied for my #1 favorite spot
This movie rocks; one of his best, and totally underrated.
This would be my favorite Tom Cruise movie if it wasn't for Oblivion. Another underrated sci fi gem!
