just the best explanation of the hammer motion I've ever heard. loved it when you put the 'tour pro' grip of the right hand on it, and i could clearly see that is NOT how you would hold a hammer to hit a nail towards the flagstick. Awsome image to have in my head! Thank you Todd!
Todd, This is the best demonstration of this I've ever seen. I've really struggled at the concept of the swing and hitting a golf ball. After watching this I immediately stood up and with that picture in my head made a great swing that felt totally different and much more fluid than normal. This is the best concept video I've seen. I cannot wait to get to the range with that picture in my head and hammer it! Thank you!
The analogy of hammering a nail has completely simplified the golf swing for me. This relation with the grip of a hammer to execute proper mechanics produces a very repeatable motion with only one swing thought. Thank you so much for reducing the complex to a instinctive repetition.
You will hit more straight shots doing this and its a great swing thought. The modern traditional swing of rotating the club through the hit gets me into so much trouble with timing issues. So why not eliminate that and keep it square as you would with a hammer. brilliant Todd.
Todd, Just the Video I had asked you for! Thank you. It is a very good description of the right hand being "non rotational" I love your content. Keeps getting better all the time. Keep it up!
Thought you may want to know a you tuber here in England was praising you today saying watch your channel. His name Liam Harrison on Golfvlogs. I keep telling all my friends what a great communicator and teacher you are keep it going from all in England
Love it, instruction made simple. Weather here in south Texas rainy, can't get out to the range until Friday, but that's ok because my body is sore from lots of range rat sessions lately. Hopefully Friday I'll can do some single plane driver swings with some new found wrist lag. Still trying to get a break through on forward shaft lean (dynamic loft) with all the other clubs in the bag. Keeping the pelvis rotating with side bend continues to be my road block. With chips shots and slow motion swings no problem, pelvis and shoulders are open as they should be, but the full swing still vexing me, arrrrgh. I knows it coming, that break through is going to happen.
Todd visualization is so important whether it’s a stock or manufactured shot. Your ability to illustrate, I should say to demystify the swing with well thought out examples is excellent. You can teach. Thanks, Efg
I use this analogy for my mates when I talk about this swing- Once you know the radius of a circle you know how far every single point on that line is away from the center. (Straight arms) But with a parabola, you need to recalculate each time you pick a point. (Having the move the left, hip and shoulder) This is how I see this One plane Swing and an extension to the one length clubs as well; Once you know the radius, every swing is exactly the same.
Todd could you do a video on the face angle of the driver vs irons from set up through impact and finish - for example is the face angle open at address with the club 5 inches behind ball and line up on heel as per Moe and your instruction.
The face is square at address. When I tilt (sidebend) I am not rotating. That is why it is square. I cover this at 1:06 of this video. ruclips.net/video/4Pw-X2a6S3s/видео.html
Todd, when I strike the ball well using the single plane swing, I experience the same feeling as if I were cutting a tree down with an axe. Striking the trunk about 2 feet off the ground only with a much flatter swing. Would you call this a good comparison as skipping a rock? With an axe I feel the lag from the weight of the tool as well as swinging into a flexed lead knee. Also a non rotational grip. Any commets on this ?
Chop down a couple of trees and you will quickly eliminate un needed hand. arm, and body movement. taking a couple of practice swings with the tree felling thought in mind seems to work well for me. I even feel the release right before impact as opposed to manufacturing it.
Thanks. Very good. However, this right arm/hand movement seems different to another video, where you are describing what the arm movement on the backswing would look like without torso turn. In that video, the right arm just folded up to the right shoulder. It seems a different motion to the hammer motion you describe here. Or have I misunderstood something? Thank you.
Tell us Todd, how do you feel after hitting so many golf shots using Moe's swing make you feel in seeing your ball flight going so straight all the time or do they? Have you concord the Moe Norman swing honestly? If you have you must feel so proud of yourself and in knowing you can put your ball to your intended target all the time, if you do then that is some achievement you have done in your commitment in your life and one you must feel so proud of! Anyone can enter for the Masters Todd - go for it if you feel you can swing so straight like Moe! I would put that on mu bucket list if you did enter!
I remember in one of Moe’s videos he said he pulls the club through the ball and the right hand is along for the ride. I’ve been doing the opposite and throwing the club through the ball. Is one better than the other?
I"m hitting the ball straight but not getting get distance. I've noticed that on some of the videos Moe says his hips don't move but watching your videos you look like you are turning your hips? I try and go thru the left knee and hip moving forward and doing the sideways look. I guess I'm having trouble putting it all together with one motion??? HELP!!!
Don’t disagree with the right hand hammer but in all the video I’ve seen of Moe he has always advocated the left side pull or “tug” as he put it in the Part 1&2 PGA tapes. Is it a left side or right side hit... or both? If both which is still dominant?
Of course left hand pull and right hand hit. Both. IT is a matter of when. 3D Studies of the Kinematic Sequence easily show this. As a matter of fact, the body turns to pull the arm so it is more than just a left hand pull. This doesn’t mean Moe was wrong, he was relating feelings. My instruction uses biomechanics to understand his feelings to understand the reality behind them.
I try so hard to do this but for some reason I cannot get my hands under my right shoulder on the backswing! Filming myself made me realize that my arms go back then up and stay above my right shoulder. Why?
Todd, I watched other RUclips videos teaching single plane. What is your placement of trail hand? Is the club in the palm or the fingers? Do you have a video showing both hand positions? Thanks
I am not sure about Import duty. That varies per country. If you order directly from the U.S., the cost is $72US as a member of the gold program (online subscription) and $99US for a non-member. Shipping is $39. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Just imagine that your club is a long hammer. Then imagine that you're gonna drive a low nail into the wall, with one blow. You'll naturally hold the club differently(stronger grip), and you'll naturally side bend, and rotate more through impact. Just remember to get to your left side. It's easy to finish with your weight on your back foot, can't hit it fat.
In the hammer analogy the right hand is perfect but I can promise you no carpenter is hamming back handed with a left hand grip like that, it’s far too weak to be able to effectively strike a nail. It would be in a much stronger position and you’d use body tilt to access the nail.
I personally think it's more of a chopping of a tree with a axe than hammering, since proper hammering is more of a wrist action, my opinion because I'm a carpenter.
Really enjoy watching all your swing lessons and Tim's I've already ordered several of your training aids very helpful I'm 55 been trying too hit a golf ball for about 12 years now anyway I'm determined to get this swing because I love playing golf 🏌️♂️ but I actually wanna PLAY GREAT GOLF ⛳️ THANKS FOR YALLS DEDICATION TO MOE!!
I would hope no one’s ever swings the weight of a hammer head with two hands to the completion of a golf swing because the momentum and weight of the hammer head taking over their hands would likely knock them out. Cheers
You should be given the award of best golf teacher ever born on this planet.

Simply a brilliant demonstration. Well done Todd.

Thanks Todd. This video really brought it all together for me. Such a simple motion.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job Todd. I watch this before every round.

Thanks. Signed up for may single plane 30. 🎉. Love this swing. Haven’t hit the ball so pure since I was a kid. Much love.
Todd this has to be one of, if not, the best video that you have shared with us. Gerry
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent explanation of the swing, thanks for taking the time to post this.
one of my favorite videos you’ve done - simple awesome and makes sense - thank you
You're welcome
You will hit more straight shots doing this and its a great swing thought.

brilliant Todd.
All your instruction is lowering my handicap. I'm playing the best golf ever, so thanks!
Great to hear!
Videos getting better for sure - hammer the nail love it
Todd, this is a brilliant video!! Swinging a hammer or an axe is the same motion as a Single Plane swing.
BRILLIANT!
Awesome explanation 👍
after i had someone else explain this, i started hitting my 7 iron 150. thank you for this vid. I'll show my friends
Todd, Just the Video I had asked you for! Thank you. It is a very good description of the right hand being "non rotational" I love your content. Keeps getting better all the time. Keep it up!

Excellent! Confirms what I want to do with the right hand and through!
Man you hammered that ball😎

You nailed it!
NIce!

Thank you.
It works like a charm!
This video really has helped me understand more how to take the club back and by being on the tilt
The club doesn’t rotate 😊
Well explained Todd
Great advice thanks
Glad it was helpful!

nice place you have /assume this area is owned by you and is right next to your home. v good demo.
very helpful visual

love this video - make it simple

I have similar feelings. Yes.
Chop down a couple of trees and you will quickly eliminate un needed hand. arm, and body movement. taking a couple of practice swings with the tree felling thought in mind seems to work well for me. I even feel the release right before impact as opposed to manufacturing it.
I made a reservation but you never came so I'm checking out lol. The song is always in my head 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry. lol.

I seem to have lost distance using single plane, should I work on speed drills?
It's Hammer time!
Hahahaha
Tilt is tuff to maintain?
I remember in one of Moe’s videos he said he pulls the club through the ball and the right hand is along for the ride. I’ve been doing the opposite and throwing the club through the ball. Is one better than the other?
Can you hit the ball very far with this swing?
I"m hitting the ball straight but not getting get distance. I've noticed that on some of the videos Moe says his hips don't move but watching your videos you look like you are turning your hips? I try and go thru the left knee and hip moving forward and doing the sideways look. I guess I'm having trouble putting it all together with one motion??? HELP!!!
Is there a drill to stay in your tilt in back swing?
I the key to backswing tilt is pelvis movement. The key to pelvis movement is bracing into the trail leg correctly. This is the drill.
Don’t disagree with the right hand hammer but in all the video I’ve seen of Moe he has always advocated the left side pull or “tug” as he put it in the Part 1&2 PGA tapes. Is it a left side or right side hit... or both? If both which is still dominant?

Is the golf setup trainer sold in uk, is there a import duty involved, Im 87yrs just trying to enjoy my game

I always wander what was this piece of wood or plastic used to . Now I know : it's a nail ! But why do you hit it like that ?
Just imagine that your club is a long hammer. Then imagine that you're gonna drive a low nail into the wall, with one blow. You'll naturally hold the club differently(stronger grip), and you'll naturally side bend, and rotate more through impact. Just remember to get to your left side. It's easy to finish with your weight on your back foot, can't hit it fat.
Reminds of what Mike Austin use to say about the hands
kidpoker007 trombone
Jack He what do you mean
The ball position is in the middle? Always?
Kim ruclips.net/video/PCXiIp7YUWs/видео.html

i wonder why i dont see that swing on pga tour. so curious. well not really bc its so obvious that its not really works.
Works great for me and many others.
Todd I bet many golfers would love to hear your thoughts on forward shaft lean at impact
Noted. I will work on a video of that. It might be similar to my ball position video here: ruclips.net/video/PCXiIp7YUWs/видео.html
This doesn’t cause you to flip the wrists on your downswing?
Nope
Aha moment! 😃
I personally think it's more of a chopping of a tree with a axe than hammering, since proper hammering is more of a wrist action, my opinion because I'm a carpenter.
What do you mean by “release it” nobody can explain what release means.
ruclips.net/video/Apsbnl8ObcU/видео.html
Love the video and a wonderful demo but as a flooring installer by trade, I am horrified he is calling a mallet a hammer- haha
Yes. That is horrifying.
Great training aid.. Nice.. What no electric razor?? 😂
ALSO I KNOW SILLY QUESTION HITTING WEDGES SAME EFFECT?
My local driving range should be paying you royalties. Back to the range I go.
Good idea. lol.
The tilt of the body is the secret. Trail arm has to be lower.
Funkytonk Records of course. Just like hammering or skipping a rock.
I would hope no one’s ever swings the weight of a hammer head with two hands to the completion of a golf swing because the momentum and weight of the hammer head taking over their hands would likely knock them out. Cheers
Hope not.
