Hey y'all... embarrassingly enough I misspelled Kusaan's twitter handle. If you want to find him on twitter (and you should cause the guy is a legend), the correct handle is @kusaannanora As for my challenge question, a ton of people got the right answer. The reason you do the drift at the end of ninja Hideaway is because it gives you more direct line to the finish than if you land from the trick and drive straight into it!
To add on to that, you are not perpendicular to the finish line meaning you would have to turn (and thus slow down) if you didn't drift. Drifting, although it may seem wrong at first, actually makes you closer to perpendicular to the finish line.
@@copperblue17 this isn’t actually faster it’s just habitual with lines that are done on lap 1 and 2 that it feels wrong to do something different lap 3, both are exactly the same speed
7:46 Drifting left and counter-sterring allows you to take a straighter & shorter line to the finish line - you are facing sideways, so you normally would eventually need to readjust to face forwards, but that doesn't matter since it's the end of the track
I feel like the slowdown after a slide was intentionally added to mitigate fire hopping from MK8 to MK8DX, crazy that the trick kind of removes this nerf with the added new mini turbos
It was, but actually it was complete overkill. MK8's 200cc never had firehopping or demon sliding since it launched. Sliding on MK8's 200cc doesn't gain, but it also doesn't lose (aside from minor time loss due to the meandering). In MK8DX's porting process, instead of using what they had with MK8's 200cc, they seem to have decided to go the extra mile and actively make it slow you down as well
The reason for the slide on ninja hideaway is that driving straight and curving towards the finish line is slower, a drift gives you a immediate right turn which is faster.
I'm fairly certain that the alternating slides works on delaying the slowdown because starting a slide will swing the Kart a bit forward and to the side, almost giving a small speed boost if not extended to far. I've done slides to end races after a ramp on several races online, and it keeps me slightly ahead of several racers that do not have mushrooms (and some that do) This is such and interesting concept, because I feel like some people do it without realizing!
It really is an exciting time to play right now. I honestly thought I was done with games, then your vids turn up, dlc, new tech.. what a great game. MK9 can only go downwards
New Mario kart player here. After coconut mall came out it was all over online, as expected. However I did notice I was going really fast for longer on that section. I may have accidentally done the tech because now that I am more familiar with the game it seems I'm going to much slower on that section.
Yeah I could have sworn I was doing this tech before. Especially when you do a perfect drift and got barely hang onto the wall without colliding it. I just didn't know that it was something new.
On one hand, I wish top-level Mario Kart Time Trials was a more accessible community as far as controller inputs and uploads are concerned. On the other hand, that would kind of ruin the point of it being considered “top-level”.
On outside drifting vehicles, drifting out changes your momentum to the outside of your turn. On ninja hideaway, the wr comp doesnt have the handling necessary to steer into the finish line that fast. Therefore using the drift to slide the kart to the left in the most effective way to displace in through the finish line. Essentially its only faster cause simply steering to the line would be such a wide turn and slow arch to follow that we might as well drift. The reason its not done on the firt 2 laps is cause it messes with you alignment too much and loses time on the long run. But we dont care about alignment after crossing the finish line. We just wanna get there asap.
on ninja hideaway it's basically just a big shortcut, but you can also use slideboost at the very end cause you won't slow down until the race already ends
My guess for the ninja hideaway thing is the line from where the shortcut is lines up better with the finish line with the additional hop before the cut
Honestly, I thought people knew about this, I play a bunch of 200cc, and often slide after tricks to mainly line up myself for an upcoming turn since it can be hard to start a drift once you got the ground. Although I admit I didn't know for raw speed it was faster. (Mainly used it for lines)
Sliding for better lines has been done for years now, but it was only recently discovered that in some cases you can actually get a speed boost from it
The ninja hideaway thing isnt a slide jump as there is no jump before the finish and the did it to go in a more direct line to the finish as going dead straight would've taken more time
On Ninja Hideway, you wanna drift left, so that way the carrecter moves right, to enter the finish erlier, since that makes the way to the goal shorter
I think what's happening is when you start a slide after a trick, data is stored for that slide or drift. Everything has ensured that data is accurate/not able to be taken advantage of... I.e snaking, retaining speed maliciously etc. but I think this is a specific circumstance, where if you trick in the "slide" window, before the mini turbo value has gone above a certain threshold, I.e either when, or just before a slide turns to a drift, it resets the "should I get a trickboost" stage. This is my theory anyway
My guess is on ninja hideaway the direction your going is not the fastest route to the line, and turning would lose speed, so striding into the line would be faster.
I've always been pretty confused about drifting after a trick and in certain locations. This video explains a lot of what is actually time save and what isn't. Thnx
But the slide is only bad because of straight lining , therefore if we do the slide at the finish line before deceleration takes place then that would matter a lot. Thats what happened at SNES Bowsercastle 3
on ninja hideaway drifting left and then pulling out corrects your line and brings you closer to the line faster than simply tilting right. not a slide hop cus... theres no hop or trick (+ ur already in a boost anyways for the duration of the race)
I think u slide at tye end because u would just turn & u end up really close to the left wall sometimes so either u lose like 50-150 ms or u bump to the wall & the will fuck up the time trial
Wait I could have sworn this was already found, because I remember a while back that I saw the same thing on MK8 Rainbow Road in the beginning, after the mini-turbo when you go into the slide you still keep the same speed and only gain more. Am I thinking of something else?
I may be dumb but this sounds alot like a varient of a superbounce that doesn't need the bouncy ground thing (don't know what the terminology for that thing is)
How much time does any of this even save? If Alberto only saved 20 milliseconds even after doing it over all three laps, that's not very much time to begin with. Granted 0.02 seconds is a lot at the top level but it's nowhere near motion glider
Slide jump doesn’t really save very much just cause you have to do a slide, which slows you down. Slide trick is more impactful. When I say that it has the potential to transform the game in a similar way to motion glider, I mean more about the fact that there are a ton of ways to optimize existing tracks with this stuff even if it’s not saving as much time as motion glider
This technique is able to somewhat bypass the firehopping patch for a small amount of time. So since it's technically the same thing then it probably won't work on 200cc since firehopping is usless on that mode
Just wanted to say I slid into this comment section. Bad joke aside, I'm looking really forward to see how many new strats will be discovered with these.
All this tells me is that, if people are going to be doing this online, don't waste my limited time on this game. I have nothing against advanced techniques/exploits in single-player games, since speedrunners and such can use them, but in PvP games those things can be detrimental to the experience of the majority who don't/can't use them. And with any product, the needs of the majority of the paying customers outweigh the desires of the few who enjoy using a niche element.
Trust me this is basically useless outside of time trials, and even there it's only useful if you're playing at world record level. That's why I specifically pointed out that this has the potential to transform *top level* play
It could be because drifting causes your vehicle's acceleration to top speed to be decreased as a byproduct of the sliding effect, meaning that you also decelerate from boost speed slower than just driving normally. Imagine that every time you drift, you basically go on ice, and imagine that every time your speed boost runs out you have to break to go back to normal speed. Being on ice would make your breaks less effective, allowing you to conserve more of your speed. The hop at the end also saves time because hopping causes you to go airborne, meaning that your speed is conserved for a bit longer while you're in the air. This is also probably why fire hopping was so effective on the Wii U version, though maybe to fix that problem they added a speed penalty when you hit the ground. This would be sort of realistic, and it may be the reason for the time loss if you do the hop strat and don't do something else immediately afterwards. So, basically we should be looking for more things that cause your vehicle's acceleration (and therefore deceleration) to be decreased. Though, don't trust me, I'm totally guessing here and I'm not an expert.
I would use a different word than "exciting" to describe the discovery. It's frustrating to keep finding these weird little things that push most average players like myself further and further behind.
I thought everyone knew the boost drift I’ve never played Mario kart all my life and after I got with my girlfriend 3 months ago she wanted to play Mario kart about the 3-4 time playing I notice you were able to go a bit faster or get an additional build up of a boost by sliding right after hitting a jump I never said anything or reached out because I’m not a Mario kart player but I thought it was a trick someone already was using
I used to play this game a lot. the only thing keeping me from being super good at this game was the Niscs and the ability to use them all the time. I have not played since November 2021 but as of right now I am charging my switch so I can time trial again. Problem is there is now almost 100 courses in MK8D right?????

@@alvin_row he'll just pin a different one in a week
On Ninja Hideaway you do a wide drift into the finish line as it's the fastest line into the finish line instead of trying to drive forward into it
Pretty sure this is right. This happens in crash team racing too, on cortex castle. Just found that interesting
Yep, this is correct
To add on to that, you are not perpendicular to the finish line meaning you would have to turn (and thus slow down) if you didn't drift. Drifting, although it may seem wrong at first, actually makes you closer to perpendicular to the finish line.

Slide jumps kinda remind me of fire hopping, but to a _much_ smaller degree.
What’s fire hopping. Also, how do they slide. Is it just a drift that doesn’t create sparks or something else?
This is the first technique discovered since I started time trialing the game so I'm excited to see this covered!
Finally i've been waiting since the wave 2 analysis
