I had a similar problem - exactly the same stop/start motor but all the time - solved it by just removing every 2nd magnet ( from a 12 magnet ring )

I have a 6 magnet setup on a 750W motor and it is causes unwanted bursts of torque. I would like to try 12 magnets to see if it is a bit more predictable and smooth. Great video btw !

      Interesting! Bobby
Thanks for watching, I've tried different numbers of magnets and found the voillamart controller doesn't seem to like any number other than the magnet ring that the kit came with, it must be programmed for particular magnet ring, i've heard that some controllers are programable to suit your magnet ring number.
Hope you succeed with the trial
      regards

Interesting it did it on a hill. I'm converting a folding bike with 20" wheels. As the bits are all bought seperat and no idea what to get, I got a 12 magnet. My theory was the controller has to turn smaller wheels faster. They are like a low gear for the hub motor. Maybe your controller tries to overload because it is trying to drive like it would on the flat?
Anyway, just fitting the 12 magnet disc. It will be good to try your solution if it doesn't work.

Thanks for feedback, let me know how you get on, magnet rings come in a variety of different numbers of magnets, there must be a reason for this.
      Cheers

@@MrFactotum i have not. I put it down for a while, while im building my shop, Ebike Repair NYC, LLC. im gonna take a look at it in the near future. I still have my notes i took from your video. I only run into trouble with this particular type controller + throttle. hopefully when i pick it up again, time away to absorb will pay off. if not, i’ll definitely reach out again.

The cadence is looking for you to be NOT PEDALING so it knows when to help you, so if you have more magnets it looks like you are having NO trouble so it stutters.

      Hi NMB1
you've got it!👍👍 unless you can re-program the controller for the number of magnets.
      thanks for watching and feedback

I'm stuck. I have the voilamart 1000w kit. But the magnet disc fell apart and I fitted a new one - along with a new sensor. But the controller isn't picking up the pedal assist anymore. I have the s861 display and I changed some of the settings but now I'm lost as to the correct settings for magnet etc... on the lcd. I can still ride the bike with throttle but no more pedal assist. It would be great if I could reset this display but I've searched and searched. Any help appreciated.
I did strengthen the core of the magnet disc as described in this video with rubber washers.

      Hi Rab
Sorry to hear your having problems,
I don't have an lcd display, mine's just a basic kit, so i have no experience in programming the lcd, can't you factory reset it, there must be a way to do it. When i have time i will try and search for s861 to see if i can find anything.
The magnet disc, from memory, i didn't strengthen the centre with rubber washers i made a brass disc and riveted it on i think i did another video on that.
Have you got the distance from the magnet to the sensor correct, try closer or further away from sensor, also have you put the disc back in the correct direction, if it's the wrong way round the poles on the magnets won't be recognised by the lcd.
Hope this helps and good luck.
      regards
      Kev

Does having the smooth side (without the circumference edge lip) of the magnet disk facing towards the sensor make any difference too?

    • @MrFactotum
      @MrFactotum  2 года назад

      eyup ashley
the only thing that matters is having the magnets facing the sensor with the correct pole of the magnets towards the sensor, or the pedals will work only in reverse
      hope that helps
      regards
