  • Today we tried the Ball recipe for BBQ Sauce after a few tweaks I think I've found THE ONE. My plan is to try and make many more of my own products in the hopes of helping keep me out of the supermarket.

Just had a great idea. Drill holes into a couple of nutmegs and put earring findings on and you will have nutmeg fragrance wherever you go. 😂

I love this, what you're doing this year! Bbq sauce looks wonderful! You've inspired me! Recently, I made yogurt, in my slow cooker,
and will never buy it again. We eat quite a lot of it, and are experimenting with different fruit flavors. Much healthier for us, no extra ingredients or dyes.

If you keep onion powder in freezer it does not go hard. Also garlic powder.

Hello Stacey. I have just found your channel, and have watched a few of your videos. Love them! I’m in Australia. While watching this one, you said that the sauce needed Thyme, but then didn’t say anymore about it, Did you add the Thyme, and if so, how much? Please.

I thought I heard you mention that the recipe called for mace. Mace is a little different flavor than nutmeg. It is the husk somehow of the nutmeg, but I bought some because I was making something that called for mace and I know that it has a different flavor from nutmeg. Just FYI, in case you can’t get that exact flavor that you’re going for this might help.❤❤

Just subscribed to you in the past week and am really enjoying your videos. We are half the way around the world from each other. I live in the United States in Pennsylvania. I saw you having issues with the can open and it made me think about what I would do if mine broke....I don't know I would even know how to use the one you had to grab when yours broke. Keep up the great work with the videos. I hope you knee feels better soon!

Good evening (my time) to you and yours. Well done on your canning and the desire to kick it old school and make your own things (canning) to have on hand and not depend on the food stores for many food items. Yes, cost, but just the fact that you will have your supplies to do it yourself and not have to go to the store or depend on it being there is a good thing.
BBQ sauce, you say, and what is our fav. Well, my brother-in-law used to make his own all the time and it was good but I do not recall all of the ingredients as he did it by what he liked and not by a recipe.
Here in the States BBQ is a big deal. The sauce is even bigger in different areas of the country. Kansas City MO (a few hours away from where I live) is a major hub for BBQ. KC, as we call it, is a big city and in its beginnings was a big cattle town so of course BBQ is the main theme for where to go out to eat.
As mentioned before, I do not eat meat - I used to eat chicken, beef, and turkey - and in that time I went to KC for a day trip with a friend and we went to a BBQ place called Char Bar (look it up - it is an interesting place) They have a lot of different sauces to choose from. My favorite is called Naked Sauce. You can look that up too. They likely have it on Amazon. It is one of the best BBQ sauces I have tried. One of my other favs is a Carolina BBQ sauce. If you are not familiar with some of the states here in the U.S. We have what we call - The Carolinas; meaning North Carolina and South Carolina. This is another area that is big on BBQ - another is Texas; which is another big cattle state.
Back to Char Bar's Nake Sauce - If you can get a look at the back of the jar (the front has a pig on it and it says Meat Mitch on the top of the label) and see what the ingredients are and then you can play with the amounts as you have a sudo basic BBQ recipe from your book.
You might consider making your own ketchup as well. You mentioned you would be doing more canning - as it is your spring to go into summer now, yes? We are in the fall season to go into winter - yuck. I do not like winter.
Just a thought - BBQ Sauce really needs to have Brown Sugar to give it that deep rich flavor and color you are hoping for with your sauce.
Another thought - please do not take this as a complaint or anything negative - it is just a thought for you to consider. We watch a lot of cooking channels and most of them have all of their ingredients all ready to go in cups or bowls - wondered if that might make your process go a bit more streamlined and relaxing for you as you film.
Well, I must away and get back to your Thanksgiving and trying out the Green Bean Cass and Sweet "Tatter" Cass.
    Tally-ho!!!

Oh My Gosh. I so enjoyed reading your comment! Thanks for taking such time out of your day to give me a small glimpse into the world of BBQ sauce. To reply...
      1. I will definitely look into some of those sauces you mention and will try to grab some from Amazon too.
      2. I had no brown sugar made up so just added the white sugar and molasses, which is how you make brown sugar. It just saved me a step from mixing it. I only shop monthly and I'm low on sugar so it was just easier.
      3. Yes ketchup (tomato sauce here) is next on my list.
      4. Thank you for considering my thoughts on your suggestion, I wouldn't take it as a negative because any suggestions you guys make just help in the long run. In some videos, I definitely would have bowls of ready-measured ingredients, etc and trust me I have them all ready for my use anytime. To be perfectly honest I usually either forget to use them or I just get into the rhythm of filming and getting ingredients out and using them at the time.
The other factor for me personally is I cook a lot by feel, sight, taste, and smell. If it's a baking recipe then yes I really should try and remember to have them ready lol. Thanks for the suggestion I will try to do as I always intend to.
I hope you enjoyed the casserole video it was such an interesting video for me to make.
Thanks for your continued support and I look forward to catching up again soon.
      Your friend Stace

I wonder if people still use parisian essence? Or even know what it is? We used it to make foods a browner colour without changing the flavour.

I never tried making BBQ sauce, but you make it look so easy… I am going to try it. I have some cans of tomatoes that need to be used up… great video!
I would love to see a video on making meatballs that I can toss in the freezer, then just add to sauce.
    If you have one

I have made BBQ sauce once and still have some on my shelf. I wonder if you added a slice of bread to the onion powder like you would to brown sugar if thy would loosen your onion powder.

I find that onion and garlic powder stored in the freezer don't end up as a solid mess 🙂 Quick question, do you put a weight on the vent that has the steady stream of steam? Thanks again for the video.

    • @FarmersWifeHomestead
      @FarmersWifeHomestead  6 месяцев назад +1

Not for this recipe as it is being steam canned instead of water bath canned or pressure cooked. I have another video explaining all about steam canning if you want to check that out. Great idea about the garlic powder and onion powder.
