That's a mighty fine garlic harvest! I LOVED seeing you outside and the shots of your property (even if they were blurry LOL!) Perhaps the key to growing great garlic is just to plant it and let it do it's thing. Would love to see more of your property and being outside. So good to see you back - DON'T OVERDO IT!!! (Love & HUGS!!!)
Thanks! You too my friend! I hope you are feeling better today. X
They look Good! We'll done. Nice to see you out and about! Don't forget to rest x
That was a very noisy bird chirping away as you harvest the garlic, it sent my two cats demented not knowing where is the bird 😂😂
Stacey,I just saw a hack for making garlic easier to peel, break up the head into separate cloves put in microwave 10 seconds( 1000 watts) and so easy.It wasn't fresh garlic but boy am I pleased
You inspired me to buy peeled garlic and make it into pucks, I got 31 teaspoons out of that bag, I’m so chuffed! Then I chopped 5 onions and froze them, grated a block of cheese and froze that, par cooked pumpkin and potatoes and froze them also! Do you coat your potatoes in flour before freezing or just shake them and freeze. Then I made dog food with lots of vege and froze that. Also prepped celery and froze that uncooked, froze cooked rice. I’m so chuffed! Slept like a log last night 😅
Wow, that's awesome work! I bet you slept well. You will love that everything is at your fingertips ready, though! Reminds me to do more potatoes myself. I'm so pleased you are getting so much from my videos. I don't put flour on them, but you totally do that and chuck some seasonings in as well.
Nice to see you in the garden. Great. Wonderful harvest of garlic. Better than mine this year. Sheeps wool works well.
Great idea thank you ❤
I just love having them handy.
Thankyou for showing how you do this and that you do the same with ginger will definately be added to my make regularly list
Yes It is so handy to have. It saves so much time as well.
I will try garlic again this fall. Those are very nice.
Do you have a hack for peeling the paper off the cloves. It gets so sticky. I have recently subscribed, I love your channel xx
Good on you for growing garlic. I bought garlic at the supermarket yesterday and it was $65 per kilo! I almost cried. New Zealand's food prices are extreme. I bought two small bulbs of garlic it came to $3.70 😥
Oh wow!
Instead of weeding are you able to 'chop and drop' what is there? This will keep the roots in the soil (which is good for the soil micro-organisms) and it also won't' disturb the soil, causing more weed seeds to germinate when they get light and bare soil. Then just mulch over the top of the fallen weeds and the soil in these beds will soon be more like your potato beds. Easier on your back too :)
Bless ya you need some help in the garden.
I have just found you! what a breath of fresh air you are ❤ I have a question... how long do you freeze them for and do you cover them? Thanks and keep up the great channel 🙂 (Kiwi living in Queensland, Australia)
Hello and welcome to the channel, cover lightly and freeze until frozen then pop into a bag or container :)
@@FarmersWifeHomestead thank you darling. Really appreciate it 🥰
Im loving your gardening videos. Im new to preserving. Why do you add olive oil to the garlic ?
Thank you :)
To answer your question it just helps it come together to help it stick into little pucks for freezing. I'm sure you could try it without the oil too.
Stacy, That is so great! i grow garlic and i only put it in olive oil in a jar, and kept it in the fridfe. This is way better! Thank you!! Happy New Year too!
Thank you, I'm pleased it has given you another way to use it.
Thank God I cook much better than I type. This always changes my words too! I did a lot of canning this year. Last week turkey was .69 /lb. I bought 2/14 lbs each. Roasted in oven bags, chopped and poured broth with butter. Canned 14 qts , and 8 pints for the dogs with skin, scraps, giblets. Good for soup, or thicken for over mashed potatoes. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!
What a bargain! I love turkey, but they just don't sell it here. 😢
Wow, that's a pity, maybe you can order and raise some yourself. Just a thought. You have a lot of your plate already. Thank you for the chats!
I'm the only one who would eat it so there isn't a point unfortunately :-(
I am so envious that you can have an overgrown garden. I live in Australia and have tiger, copperhead & brown snakes So sadly I simply have to have the neatest area possible. Yesterday I had a tiger snake in the chicken pen when I went to lock them up Very very scary
Do you buy garlic seedlings or how do you actually start your crops off?
Can I ask the best way to freeze garlic?
Hi garlic at the moment is $45 and Chinese is cheap but not as strong do you think a mixture of both worth be ok
You could try it :-)
I cheat and use the jar of garlic from supermarket already to use
I used to as well but save heaps by doing my own. Plus I know what's in it. You're amazing watching all these videos Maxine!
i was told you dont or shouldnt harvest your garlic the first year is that right?
Yes, you totally can. Its planted traditionally on the shortest day and harvested on the longest.
thank you for that will give it a go dont know how it will grow here in Orkney
