Mōrena Stacey, I liked going shopping with you! Going back & watching your other videos prompted me to ask my sister last night to go shopping at Gilmours in Tauranga for me while she’s there for work. I’m in Gisborne & sadly we lost our Gilmours store several years ago. On my list was the premium flour bag (woah I didn’t know about the introduced folic acid - boo!!) $29.89 ($1.49 per kg), Chelsea 10kg bag of sugar $32.78 ($3.28 per kg), 5kg bag of Valuemetric grated cheese $70.31 ($14.06 per kg), 8 x pineapple (to get ready for canning with you without the flash gears) $3.44 each, 2 xA10 tins or 2.9kg crushed tomatoes $13.21 ea. My list of items I calculated came to $186.92 including GST - which my sister is buying for me & bringing my haul home. The flyers Gilmours put out online helped me online surf 🏄🏽♂️ shop. I’m talking to my whanau (family) about working together to bulk buy together & derive the benefits of the cost savings collectively. We love good kai (food) & in Gisborne we get great access to fruit, veges & produce 😊 & with me putting in my winter vege & herb seedlings in my garden I should be all good. My mum has a massive fig tree which she has just made fig chutney with & it just gave me an idea for a great pizza base with ham or salami topped with 3 cheeses (blue cheese, feta & the budget Valuemetric) - salivating thinking about it 😂 Thank you 🙏🏼
Tauranga Gilmours seems to be a little higher than the Hamilton branch, Still having bulk goods will be awesome for you. Thanks so much for writing this message as I really enjoyed reading it. I was just given two big bags of figs too.
How do you keep all the produce fresh for the month?? 😊. I just did your $50 meals and my kids love it! I want to say thank you for sharing all your knowledge. You’re a life saver! ❤🎉
Chat on!! Part of why I watch you. It's interesting the prices.from Alberta Canada, some things are so much less and some much more then others about the same.
Your Shop in Hamilton that has Kirkland Bread is like our Costco Shop which we call a Big Box or Warehouse store here in the USA. All this was very interesting. Thank you.
Good on you for stretching yourself and doing something that is uncomfortable. We all appreciate what you are doing and it sounds like you are getting some local attention also. So glad to see your channel growing so fast. If you had a mill, would you be interested in grinding your own flour?
Yes, I would love a mill but they are so expensive to get here. My thermomix does mill but It probably won't handle larger amounts. I'm adding it to my list of things for sure. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement :-)
Yay road shopping trip lol. I used to live in Gordonton, just north of Hamilton city. Voice overs are fine, please dont feel pressured to talk while shopping. Great you support your local fruit n veg shop. Wow didnt realise gst now at 15%, Still 10% here in Oz. Love your vids and always good to see fellow Kiwis on youtube!!!!
If the gilmours plain flour doesn't have folic acid in it, you can get that, and add wheat gluten to it (which gilmours may also have?). I think it's about a teaspoon of extra gluten per cup of flour to make high grade. 😊
Bin Inn in Hamilton East sell high protein bread flour labelled Victory Flour which doesn't yet have folate in it. I bake sourdough, and it's a very good flour. It's expensive in 3kg bags, but they may agree to sell it by the sack which would be cheaper.
Fun seeing your local shopping. Was not familiar with the term kumara and I have learned something new. Some of your prices were similar to here in California but a few were quite a bit higher. Here we have sales tax. In my area it is 9.75% but there is no tax on food at the grocery store unless it is a hot prepared food such as a rotisserie chicken. Thank you for sharing and don’t pay attention to people who say you blab. Your videos are a wealth of information and your accent is very soothing. Looking forward to what you have planned for meals with your grocery haul. Have a great day
loving your channel which I have recently just found. I am trying to learn to cut down our grocery bill too so this is really helpful and so pleased to find a NZ channel. We have a Gilmours card from owning a business but haven't used it in years so should get back to that! would also love to see how to make pasta sauces etc or anything else you do. I'm sure a lot of us would find it helpful and interesting.
Ok good to know thank you. Yes, you should check it out. Just make sure you know your price points for things that could be cheaper at the supermarket.
Awesome, thank you Stacey. I don't know how you have the time to get everything done in a day that you need to! Voice overs are totally fine and so understand the need. Reduced To Clear shop in Hamilton yet? They have awesome canned goods, meal additives etc, pet meat specials, all sorts. Getting a bit chillier now isnt it? Take care till next time 🌞🙋🏼♀️

Enjoyed your shopping trip,I'm comparing prices over here in Sth Australia, fresh produce looks wonderful! You yawning was cute, thanks for a great video❤
That was fun! Here in Canada we have a big store called The Real Canadian Superstore, very similar to yours, that's my go-to for big bulk items and spices as well. Your prices are really good! I followed along with my calculator and that was a great haul for the money you spent. The only thing that shocked me was the price of the sea salt, wow. We can get nice flaked sea salt from spain or greece for a quarter of the price. Many blessings to you!
I love your videos but when I looked for equivalent to Gilmours in South Island and found Trents and Bidfood both of which require you to be a business or non profit organisation so for most people it would be difficult to make the same savings. I'm wondering if there is anywhere that supplies goods at same sort of prices to general public . I do use Binn Inn, Hellers Shop and Couplands all of which save me a few dollars
Great video. I just did a grocery shop this morning here in Hamilton at pak n save and man it hurt. You have convinced me to make more from scratch at home. I'd forgotten about the couplands bread, my vege store in Dinsdale stocks it but it always seems fresher getting it direct from couplands. I'm making your chocolate hot cross buns this weekend so will let you know the results
Love this channel, keep being you, wonderful. I just did the math on your Gilmours shop. Can I suggest you use a calculator, when you add the 15% to the pineapple you'd be charging back to the fruit and vege place, cheaper! I think the law means in bread making flours so a loaf of bread from wherever will have folic acid.
Wow, just rang Pams ready to give them a blast cause its not on their ingredients list for Pams Plain flour or Self raising@@FarmersWifeHomestead apparently its only high grade. This was only Pams, dont know about others. Thank you so much for highlighting this. I feel duped as I didnt know.
@@dianecouchman3520 yip, it's only high grade that requires the folic acid. So I've been using plain flour. Apparently you can make your own high grade flour just by adding a bit of extra wheat gluten into plain flour, as that is the only difference. So that's worth looking into.
I love seeing what folk in other countries buy and what it costs them but Jeez, those prices would give me a heart attack - over two quid for a red cabbage? And it’s normally nearly four? I object if I have to pay a quarter of that. And I can get 2L of whipping cream for £1 on a good day…yours was the equivalent of nearly eight times as much!!! We’d be living on fresh air…😂
@@lesleyhughes3174 I really do completely get that, and you have all my sympathy. We just have no idea how fortunate we are in the UK - our disasters are generally caused by political decisions, we do not appreciate the fact that Nature rarely chooses to decimate our small nation in the way it so often does to other places. We have an economic crisis at present, but we are incredibly fortunate to still have cheap food prices that enable most folks to manage. If we had natural disasters to contend with on top of that…well, I don’t know how some people would survive.
Jeepers, lucky you. Cabbages were about $8 kg average over winter. All produce shot up in price after cyclone thingy. But that was a year ago. Add inflation and that are still going up in price. Beef mince is usually about $14.99 on special. Yeah, homeless ness is growing here, lots of families in emergency housing..where I am, $ 650 to $750 rent forc3 bedrooms. $550 forv2 bedroom.. it's getting very hard here, starting to pinch.
@@marycressy7640 oh Gawd luv you, darlin’. There are approx. 2 NZ dollars to a UK pound. You wouldn’t get a 3-bed house where I live for less than £850 a month - 1700 NZ dollars. My kids rent 2-bed homes for £750 per month because they can’t afford to save the deposit for a home before they pay the £995 pm for the mortgage. If they then had to pay your prices for food on top they’d be starving - and these are professionals, with degrees and good jobs.

Hi Stacey, Really loved watching your shopping trip. Loved that you did a voice over as you can talk more freely at home. It all worked and sounded good. I stand there and take all those horrible stickers off the fruit and leave them behind in protest. My food scraps go in my compost and plastic labels don't rot down.
Unless my math is wrong, it seems your food costs more than ours. Most grocery store foods are not taxed in the US. Snacks, fake fruit juice, alcohol and soft drinks, and prepared hot foods from the deli are taxed. Sales tax varies from county to county and state to state but somewhere around 7%. We've given up on hot dog and hamburger buns and just use sliced white bread. Usually, we do chili dogs on a plate rather than plain hot dogs. That is canned chili (ground beef in a broth/sauce of Mexican spices... no beans) on top sliced bread and topped with slices of hot dog links, fresh onions, canned sliced jalapeno peppers, a little pickle relish, a squirt of plain yellow mustard and melt some shredded cheddar cheese on top.
New Zealand is expensive. For pretty much everything! When I was Stateside I couldn't believe the prices were so low, don't ask about gas. You'd Hyperventilate
I have to do a conversion in to UK pounds to fully appreciate costs. 240 NZD = £ 114.52. Wow, apples in the uk are much more expensive, but lettuce is cheaper here. I’m trying not to buy from supermarkets. I grow my own veg and raise chickens. It’s interesting to see what’s happening overseas 😊
Interesting comparing prices - unfortunately I can't shop at Gilmours as have to have a business to get a card. Also don't know of any factory bread shops in Auckland. My fruit and vege shop is hit and miss with quality of the produce sometimes a good buy and sometimes the fruit etc is ready to be thrown out!
Go Gissy! ❤
Dole Pineapples are on sale right now at Pak n Save for $2.99 :)
How do you keep all the produce fresh for the month?? 😊.
I just did your $50 meals and my kids love it! I want to say thank you for sharing all your knowledge. You’re a life saver! ❤🎉
That is awesome! I'm pleased your family enjoyed it. I usually go to the veggie shop fortnightly.
Chat on!! Part of why I watch you. It's interesting the prices.from Alberta Canada, some things are so much less and some much more then others about the same.
Thank you
Ignore the negative comments. Usually it jealousy and ignorance.
Your Shop in Hamilton that has Kirkland Bread is like our Costco Shop which we call a Big Box or Warehouse store here in the USA. All this was very interesting. Thank you.
We do have Costco in NZ
Copeland's is in most main centers. Warehouse founded in NZ. NZ owner. In all towns and cities.
Gilmours warehouse is fantastic!
It's one of my happy places :-)
Nice video
@@FarmersWifeHomestead It be mine too.
Nice shopping trip stacey nice seeing abit of home away from home
WOW cant believe the price of the feijoas exspensive at home for our kiwi staple
They are just coming into season so are still expensive. They should come down soon. Thanks for watching :-)
Hey we are neighbours. I live in a small town on the outskirts of Hamilton.
Hey neighbour
Very interesting. Lots of differences from what I'm used to here in the states. Thanks for a great video!👍
Thank you
Good on you for stretching yourself and doing something that is uncomfortable.
Thanks so much.
Thanks for that.
Fun seeing your local shopping. Was not familiar with the term kumara and I have learned something new. Some of your prices were similar to here in California but a few were quite a bit higher. Here we have sales tax. In my area it is 9.75% but
there is no tax on food at the grocery store unless it is a hot prepared food such as a rotisserie chicken. Thank you for sharing and don’t pay attention to people who say you blab. Your videos are a wealth of information and your accent is very soothing. Looking forward to what you have planned for meals with your grocery haul. Have a great day
Thanks so much for you message :-)
Forgot to say thank you! I always enjoy your videos and love your accent, so talk all you want! ❤
😊 thank you
I would love a shop like that! My local is ordinary overpriced in Melbourne .
Loved your shopping trip and the commentary. Talk as much as you like.
thank you.
loving your channel which I have recently just found.
Really enjoyed the shopping trip. I was comparing the whole time with our prices here and yours. You can take me along anytime. Lol
Thank you :-)
Awesome, thank you Stacey.
Take care till next time 🌞🙋🏼♀️
I was so going to go and shop at RTC but decided to do it next time. I'm loving the cooler weather, I'm a real winter girl, with cozy fires :-)
@@FarmersWifeHomestead I'm a nomad. On the road, in a Self Contained ex rental Campervan, Mercedes Sprinter, for 6 yrs now. Lifes challenges and changes made unfortunately. No heating system unless powering up at a holiday park etc., so does get a tad chilly during mid winter! 🌞 Love open fires! I really miss that and soaking in a nice warm bath; my now ' 70ish' bod used to love those! Having an oven!!😔.🌞🙋🏼♀️
Can recommend using home made bread for toasties, it’s really good.
Love that your in NZ as more relatable!
Good to know thank you, I'm definitely going to give them a go.
Enjoyed your shopping trip,I'm comparing prices over here in Sth Australia, fresh produce looks wonderful! You yawning was cute, thanks for a great video❤
Thank you so much 😊
I love hauls! And OMG you shop where I shop! Hope I run into you someday! 🤞
hahaha that's so cool. I've been wondering if one day that happens, please say hi if you do see me.
Thank you - loved this one a great effort getting out there and doing it
thank you
That was fun!
Thanks for that. I didn't even think about doing the prices so next time I will.
That Gilmour place is amazing. Will have to investigate if we have anything like that in Adelaide (well we have Costco) but I mean something Aussie.
It is very much like a Costco.
Really enjoyed coming shopping with you and seeing all that lovely produce ☺️
Too funny picking the same beautiful ones from each bin as I would.
Thank you :-)
Great video.
Dinsdale is my other go-to shop but the other one is definitely better quality. Im so pleased you are trying the buns, I hope you like them :-)
Gab away! I love your chit chat
I like how your fruit and veg are mainly unpackaged
Yes, it is good isn't it.
Pams only have folic acid in their high grade flour not the plain flour. Pak n save have pretty good prices.
Just found your channel .. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you , you too.
All the fruits & vegetables I see look Magnificent! I’d be like a Kid in a candy store(yet the prices are rather steep :0
Its your Blahing that makes this channel so enjoyable....so don't worry about it. ❤
Haha thank you
Love this channel, keep being you, wonderful. I just did the math on your Gilmours shop. Can I suggest you use a calculator, when you add the 15% to the pineapple you'd be charging back to the fruit and vege place, cheaper! I think the law means in bread making flours so a loaf of bread from wherever will have folic acid.
They added it to all the flour but wholemeal. I will look into what I can do. Thanks so much for letting me know you are enjoying the channel.
We have had some major natural disasters here and that is the reason for many items to be more expensive. Many lost their land and livlihoods.
Crazy prices alright. I'm making big garden plans soon and I'm looking forward to next season already.
Great shopping Haul x Gday from across the ditch in Oz x
Thank you! 😊
Glad to see what's available at some other places in hamilton :) looking forward to the video on canning pineapple :)
Hoping it will be upon Sunday evening.
In Australia the GST is just in the price, so no calculating necessary. But a lot of food doesn't have the tax anyway.
It is for us as well except the wholesale place Gilmours.
Greetings from Hamilton. When my sister shops at Couplands Te Papa she also shops at Reduced To Clear which is on the same street. They have an interesting variety of specials, though not the basic staples.
Reduced To Clear is great for a lot of things. We got it back recently in Tauranga. Disappeared a few years ago for some unknown reason.
Yes, I almost turned that way to go have a look, but decided to do it for the next one. Hello neighbour
I love you blah blahing, don't ever stop being yourself. My TN has eased a tiny bit, woohoo. Xx
Thank you, I am happy to hear your TN is behaving!
@@FarmersWifeHomesteadit's the worst flare up of Trigeminal Neuralgia I've had. It started when my mum died last year and was getting worse and worse to the point I was finding it hard to function. I'm hoping it's easing and I'll go into remission for a while again xxxx
Hi Stacey, Really loved watching your shopping trip. Loved that you did a voice over as you can talk more freely at home. It all worked and sounded good. Your prices are are on par somewhat to us here in Oz except we have GST ON the item and not at the end as yours is. Your coplands is simular to our Cosco. I was wondering if you could do a Budget Vegan shop and cook with a weeks meal plan one day for us.?? Looking forward to your cooking this week. Hugs CJ
All our prices are gst included except for at Gilmores, because they are a wholesalers that supply other stores.
Coplands is just a bakery shop for breads and baked goods. Gilmours is kind of similar to Costco.
Did you manage to find flour without folic acid? Ive also been on the hunt. Also, I need a Gilmours near me!! We are in Dunedin and I've literally never even heard of this store before
😅 Thanks for sharing.
Nice haul. Produce looks of good quality.
Thank you :-)
If they don’t like your blah blah blah they don’t have to watch, they go somewhere else. I am really enjoying your channel. Thank You for letting us shop with you
I appreciate that, thank you 😊
The prices are pretty similar to what you were showing us but our GST is already included in the price and it is 10%. Love your channel
Thank you, it's just Gilmours that it isn't included. It is a business wholesale shop.
Love your videos.
Here in Oz we have 10% GST, but it is factored into the prices in shops, not tallied at the end and added. That must be stressful.
It's factored in in NZ too, just not at Gilmours because that's a wholesale supply store
Thank you, yes I didn't think to explain it a little better. We used to have 10% as well then it went up.
The fruit n veges looked so good n reasonable prices
Yes, its a stunning shop and so well cared for.
Awesome job❤
thank you
❤
Wow they sound DELICIOUS!
New Zealand is expensive. For pretty much everything! When I was Stateside I couldn't believe the prices were so low, don't ask about gas. You'd Hyperventilate
Made the depression era salad! Wonderful!
Do you still need a card or something for Gilmours? Lovely to shop with you.
Some do and others don't. I know Tauranga you don't need to. It's best to just ring your local one.
Just bought 12 loves of Couplands bread today, when you live rurally the freezer gets a good workout. Do you ever buy from the Te Kowhai fruit shop?
I have been once but found the other one I go to better. The bread is really nice aye.
We are lucky that the apples are now in season and I really need to grab some to preserve too.
Agree with you about the folic acid and don't get me started on the fluoride in water too.
Some Gilmours don't require a card so pays to check your local one out.
@@FarmersWifeHomestead Really - thanks 😍
