But it wouldn't be all bad news, 1986 would also see such highlights as the inception of Pixar, Clint Eastwood became mayor and great movies like Top Gun and James Cameron's Aliens. Check out the news, sports, culture, and entertainment in the year 1986.

What was your favorite memory of 1986?
My favorite memory was getting clean
Probably my birth.
Not existing at that time lol.
Kindergarten
Yeeeeeeaaahhhh booooyyyeee was my favorite.....
1986: Let's all hold hands!
2020: Don't even breathe in my direction
🤣 That was I was thinking!
The President of the U.S. has authorized trillions in spending on it, so be careful. Even implying that it's a "hoax" makes a spectacular case against him.
I also create videos and recently released a new one that I've been working on for a while. If you have time, please check it out! It means a lot to me and I'm sure you'll like it :)

This is why I prefer RUclips over traditional TV.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
TV is garbage. I cut the cable over 10 years ago and never missed it.
this guy does a great job
That all depends though because youtube does have an obscene amount of garbage youtubers out there. I mean RUclips is basically just like Cable TV when it comes to the content. The only difference is that its kind of harder to find channels on youtube that are of a good quality.

I left home at 17 that year. Met my first wife. Left broadcast school. All huge mistakes. But hey, the music was fun.
lol
I'm sorry for you. Especially as the music must bring up terrible memories.
But what kind of person have you become because of it?
Indeed it was 👍🏾
Your first wife was a huge mistake? Sorry you got me hooked
Too many great memories of 1986. Graduating from college, moving to another state for grad school that fall. I couldn’t wait to go, but missed my family and our cats. Making new friends, seeing Top Gun, falling in love for the first time. Enjoying my independence, but feeling joy when my family came to visit. My parents were still in their 50s and pretty healthy. My sister turned 18 and we enjoyed getting to know each other as adults. I won’t ever forget this day or the Challenger explosion.
...well I'm glad you enjoyed '86 kid 'cause mine began with tragedy, and didn't get any better throughout the following months, and ended the same way it started. I can't seem to remember anything after the Statue of Liberty🗽 100th celebration but remember the Challengers recovery operation vividly...5 1/2 months out at sea. President Reagan gave our team a month of R&R, and we ALL got HAMMERED.... I was drunk for twenty days. ... I hope I didn't bore you with all this stuff.
..... I hope you achieved most of your goals, and expectations in your life😎🤙be safe, and STAY SAFE✌️
The intro music always gives me chills, which is a good thing. It fits the 80s vibe.
I don't know what it is, but that INTRO MUSIC literally brings tears to my eyes!!
Carl Johnson is not from the 80’s
@@KentKaliber So from where are they using that intro music, would be nice to know. And yes it sound turbo nostalgic, so 80's.
@@overtaxed3628 it's supposed to sound nostalgic cuz it fits the theme. the channel probably made it themselves. otherwise, its some generic 80s sounding music in the public domain lol
I thought this was a old program off TV for a moment. 😂
I miss the 80’s. Most of all because I was young and innocent and both of my parents were still alive.

Donald Wood How’s Owen these days?
Mr. Tangent take a pill Debbie Downer. This vid had nothing to do with parents dying.
It's weird when you start to see things you remember. I didn't realise that challenger and Chernobyl happened in the same year
Yeah, come to think of it
The Challenger was in January, and Chernobyl was in April. I remember both, and took part in Hands Across America. I remember the 80s fondly, especially the music, fashion, and movies. I remember the debut of MTV on August 1. 1981. It was channel 61 on cable in Phoenix, AZ where I lived at the time. The first video was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles. I still have most of my clothes bought back then (yeah, they still fit fine---I'm thinner now), and my collection of Swatch watches I bought back then, which all work just fine. The only thing I didn't like about the 80s was shoulder pads---I removed them. (Jan Griffiths).
Come to think of that "Chernobyl" is Ukrainian for "Wormwood" - the active ingredient in Absinth.
It's prophecized in Revelation @@evenberg8499
Hope this series continues into the '90s, '00s, '10s, and '20s! Reminds me of those old "I Love the '80s" shows from VH1
I love the added sarcasm by this narrator. He kills me!! Lol!!
This guy is my favorite RUclips narrater. 👍
Yeah he’s hilarious 😂
He does have tremendous cadence n obviously a unique voice. Every time I click 1 of their vids n its not him narrating I'm disappointed
He sounds like Colbert
yeah they got the RIGHT VOICE just terrible content
I love his narration. Perfect level of sarcasm without crossing into snark.
Wooow... movies of 1986... Top Gun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Aliens. What a great year for movies.
Weird History, could you do one for every year from 1901-2020? I'd love to know what the kids were getting down to in 1904! But seriously, these are very well researched and narrated...reminiscing is a whole lot of fun

I was in middle school. My whole life was my few friends, fishing, playing a few sports, watching a lot of Wrestling. And playing lots of Nintendo!
I was sitting in tenth grade health class when the Challenger exploded. Will never forget the teacher wheeling in a tv so we could watch it and her crying her eyes out.
Amazing. I had the exact same experience but I was in 1st grade. She wheeled in the tv for us all to watch and cried after the explosion.
@@mercy4us Wow first grade and you still remember it. It definitely was one of those 'where were you' moments, kind of like the JFK assassination or the moon landing for our parents.
I was in third grade when the space shuttle exploded, we were watching the launch because of that school teacher, that was a sad 😢 day..it was all over the news😢
Same experience, but I was in the 4th grade.
Same here, sixth grade, TV wheeled in on a cart - in Art class. Teacher cut the feed immediately and started crying.
Having a teacher on board brought it to almost every school, and as a result shaped a generation.
These have been so much fun to watch.
The Challenger explosion was crushing. I worked at the PBS station in NY and we were doing a simulcast of the launch with local schools since they were sending a teacher to space, then tragedy struck. I was depressed for a month straight. 😢
I was the same seeing the planes fly into the twin towers
There is one crazy conspiracy theory complete with updated pics its so nuts its almost plausible. Yet it was a huge TRAGEDY!
Dude I was on the front parking lot of our school because I live right next to Cape Canaveral...still have PTSD from it.
M Gal, I'm sorry you experience that
keiran dunwoodie Aw thanks. We all go through trauma...unfortunately it’s part of life. It’s what makes us stronger, hopefully!🙂

Growing up in the 1980's as a young teen was a gift and privilege it was the most exciting and colorful decade of all. There was no internet or cellphone and life was simple but for some reason people were happy there was a positive vibe in the air thank you for the great memories may God bless you and your family.
The pans labyrinth reference was such a pleasant surprise lol. Love how this series connects people and events to things that happen later in history
My sister was born this year. Interesting to see what happened in 1986. Also I would love to see a Weird History video about computer viruses!
My favorite memory: graduating from highschool and moving with friends from "Tiny-Town", MT to the big city of Seattle, WA. What a fantastic year!
I was in second grade when the challenger tragedy happened. We had recess all day and didn't understand why. Then they did the Punky Brewster episode.
In 86’ I was 5 years old waiting for Saturday’s to come so I can binge on cartoons
4:30 I remember in fourth grade, my clarinet teacher was talking about The program that he applied for under NASA. I think he said he was part of the final selection and he was chosen as a secondary on that mission in case someone dropped out for whatever reason. If he wasn't lying he dodged a bullet that day.
I was in 3rd grade but the teacher the grade above in 4th was one of the ones in the final runnings as well. The whole school was excited for her....then we saw it live....all excitement of the whole thing was quickly gone. Such a sad day in my childhood....RIP to them all

1986 was a landmark year in terms of animated movies- "An American Tail", produced by Don Bluth and his team and distributed by Universal Pictures, was the highest grossing animated movie of all time for a couple years.
Honorable Mentions: Platoon, Blue Velvet, Big trouble in Little China, The fly
Life is like a box of chocolates.

Also this: 18:11 Epic
This is one of the best channels I've ever subscribed to and Timeline is the most interesting series I've seen in years. Keep up the great work!!!!
You know what I realized in the 80s every year was a good year for movies 🎞📽🎟
The great thing about that period of time was that a movie like Ferris Bueller could be a big hit where as now, it'd probably tossed into obscurity on a streaming service with a bunch of other mostly bad to mediocre films. Sadly, if a film doesn't have CGI, it most likely won't get the type of marketing commercial films get.
American culture slowly died off in the 90's.
im happy to know my obsession with the 80s wasnt unique.
I was born in just the right year (1970) to fully enjoy the 80's.... I was 13 in 1983 and turned 20 in 1990. That was a Great time to be a teenager !
Mac Tonight, what a talented mascot. Singing facts
NOT my favorite 1986 memory, but the Challenger explosion is my "Kennedy" moment, saw it real time on TV during lunch Sophmore year @ college, burned in my brain forever.
Me too. I was 17 at home skipping school. I was so upset I called my dad at work. He was a Captain in the Air Force. He was so somber and didn't even ask why I was home. Sad day!
I didn't get born until 93. But I understand what you mean with it being burned in your brain forever. I saw 9/11 on the TV in first grade and will never forget it.
My Kennedy moment was 9/11, I was a freshman in high school during biology class. Never forget how time seemed to stand still and everything froze for a day. My teacher wheeled in the classic tv strapped to the cart and we all just sat there glued to it, terrified and in shock.

80s & 90s were the most transformative years for the American culture & world
@@darealberrygarcia Precisely the point, because I've always been somewhat curious about the decade that preceded and set up the 80s to be what they were!
E.g, 70s Disco music paved the way for a great deal of music genres that were popular in the 80s.
Im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy you included Keith Haring in this!!! Far too few people know about the legend that he was.

I was ten in 1986...most memorable year of my childhood. No better time in the world to be a kid! I wish my kids were able to experience that kind of childhood. I feel sorry for kids now.
I blame social media and downward spiral of moral and ethics in our society.
I was eleven that year, and was always SO bored. I dreamed of a day, far in the future, when I could get on my Commodore computer and look up information on any topic that interested me... The only good thing about growing up in the '80s was being a young adult(and musician) in the '90s.
For real. I try so hard to give my kid an 80s childhood, but the world gets in the way. Luckily he loves 80s movies and TV shows.
I was 10 as well!!! Best memories
@José Menendéz Come on. Are we living in the same world by any chance? The youth is getting indoctrinated with ideologies like critical race theory and gender studies who's consequences we are living through right now. Not only is it unscientific garbage but also causes more division than there has been in a long time. The US is on the brink of civil war because of it. People being silenced, canceled, smeared into silence all in the name of social justice and all because of the inability of people to use their own f'in brains. I wouldn't bring a child into this madness even if i was offered 100 millions to do it and i pity anyone that has to grow up in some of our current societies.
Awesome job yet again. Thanks for the memory cap. You get old and forget! 🙄🤔

I'll never forget watching Challenger explode; the part that haunted me the most was watching my first grade teacher break down into tears.
I was in the first grade, too. I didn't understand what was going on (I guess I thought that spaceshuttles were suppose to explode, idk, I wasn''t the brightest kid), but I knew something was bad because our teachers were crying.
I was in Kindergarten. I remember watching the explosion on the news at my grandparents' house. Later that week, my teacher took us on a tour of the school and we looked at artwork done by older kids in memory of Challenger and it's crew.
I was in first grade as well and our teachers also started crying. That's how I confirmed that something terrible had just happened. So weird how so many of us experienced it the same way.
