Glad you made the clarifications about who this is for. Feel like a lot of the basshead community doesn’t realize that not everyone wants to beat the block down. Some just want a simple upgrade like this and that’s perfectly fine too! Bass is bass!

Seriously tho. They will say kickers suck because they cant handle power and then recommend some 2000 watt sub when they are not remotely comparable. Not everyone wants to go all out with 1000s of watts and have to upgrade the alternator, wiring, etc

If you're going for 2 subs you might as well have your system bump. Why use up all that trunk space for a basic setup. You're already going big.

Everything I’ve had that was kicker has been absolutely excellent. The quality and consistency is always there. They were the first sub brand I ever had in high school and they were great. I’ve tried many brands and enjoyed them. I always find myself going back to kicker products because there’s just something about them that I really enjoy. I got a 15” solobaric L7 a few years ago and it’s still working great. When I was younger it was my dream sub. I custom built a box in my 05 grand am and did a big custom amp rack where the rear seat used to be. I put all my skill into it and my knowledge I learned over the years and holy smokes it’s stupid loud and all my speakers in my custom door panels I built are kicker ks series and it’s just so loud and clear. With the box and overall setup I built, it sounds good on about anything. It gets really low my tuning was supposed to be 30hz but I added more layers to the baffle for a final tuning of 29hz. It’s the dumbest single sub setup I’ve ever heard. When people hear it they think I’ve got multiple subs but I just built the box well. 5.89cuft after displacement from bracing and sub itself tuned to 29hz. No back seat just custom built system.

Its so funny how obsessed people are with fanboy brand loving and fanboy brand hate its hilarious they dont understand that in the correct box most subs will sound good And another thing is people think they need 10,000watts to get loud lol The average guy doesn't need more than 500 watts to have a decent system And if you can't get loud with a CLEAN 1000watts then your doing something wrong 🤦🏽‍♂️

    First to watch!
    7:25 Not to confuse Midbass (midrange bass) (100Hz - 500hz) with “Mid-Bass”.
    (45 - 65Hz.)
When a company sells a midbass driver, they are referring to any speaker that’s efficient between 50Hz to 500Hz. They are also known as “Woofers” not “Subwoofers”.
In fact, a well-balanced audio system should be able to play bass without the need of a subwoofer. The subwoofer should be only there to help aid the woofer in producing very low frequencies. This practice is usually done for home audio and PA audio systems. But the majority of the car audio guys uses a subwoofer as their main driver to replace the “woofer” and then expect their midranges to be playing high Bass frequencies. Lol
And of coarse, the enclosure plays a vital role in the performance too.
4th order and 6th orders can play very low and very high frequencies. But remember, there are dozens of enclosures types and each has its pros and cons. An enclosure that works in your vehicle with a certain frequency response will not necessarily work in somebody else’s vehicle the same way due to many factors.
But anyway I’m just trying to prove a point. No harm intended. 👍🏻

I wanted something loud enough to drown out anyone else's music but not be heard from a half-mile away. I'll jam anything from hip-hop and screw to country and rock. I've had 2 kicker comp s 12 inch for 6 years now, being beat and abused heavily. Just upgraded from a kicker 300 watt amp to a sundown 600 watt. Set the kicker amp on top of my box and forgot. Cranked it up, and the kicker amp decided to give me one last present lol. The bass knocked the amp off the top of the box and broke a small hole in the cone. Pissed off, I cranked the system up and started smelling burning rubber. Immediately turned everything off, and went to check my subs. Luckily didn't ruin them, but clipped them badly. Let them relax for a bit, turned the gain down a small bit and let them ride out. Still going strong, and thinking it's about time to retire them for a new set to really push the amp now. Been such a great set of subs and sad to retire them, but they have done their job and impressed me beyond belief lol

About 20 years ago I had two of the OG Kicker Comp 10's (the ones from the '90's with paper cones) in a large sealed box in the back of an Integra and man that system was loud and clean... probably not that loud by today's standards but as far as actually hearing every detail of the bass in a song loud and clear those subs were awesome. Didn't need a ton of power either, I ran a few different amps on them but they did best on only like 300 watts.

I know a lot of people give kicker a lot of flak. But I have been going with kicker for 16 years. I had two kicker CVRs 16 years ago. I would throw golf clubs in my trunk and those subs would bang off my golf bag and other random objectors in the car and never once took damage. I then went to kicker CVXs and was involved in a big accident. ! CVX survived after taking the full brunt of the force. I now have a new kicker CVXs with 1200rms amp and its nice. Just put a kicker comp r in a shallow box under my rear truck seat. Sounds great for what I need. They are pretty good at playing good frequency ranges.

One thing I love about audio systems specifically home audio systems is you learn a lot about subwoofers it’s ironic to see people say oh sub placement in a room doesn’t matter In a house, it’s like oh yes it does and where I have my Klipsch R-12SW 12 inch active subwoofer gives the best output for my room while not overpowering the 5 main speakers and the 2 atmos speakers above my bed which even in a car subwoofer placement and the amount of subwoofers can make or break a system!

Perfect for someone that wants to add bass and not go to a contest. Yes they also make mids and highs. They don't over rate their amplifiers like 90% of the companies are doing today. If you buy an amplifier from kicker that says it's 300 watts you're going to get 300 watts or more.

Ive literally never had any issues with kicker at all. I did a build in a 2018 f150 with 4 Q class L7 8s under the rear seat and out of all these subs Ive done truck builds with they have much better sound quality and can easily keep up in spl with higher power 8s since they are certainly more efficient. 8s Ive built spec boxes for that the QL78s are louder than: Sundown SA v1.5 & v3 8s, Soundqubed HDS2.1 8s, CT Strato 8s. Higher power 8s the QL78 can easily keep up in spl with: CT Meso 8, SSA F8L 8, Sundown X8s. The Q class are totally different than the solo baric, much stiffer suspension and more motor force, they hit alot tighter and louder and are low end monsters.

no but in all reality, the reason why many hate kicker is due to their prices. you're just not getting the same amount for the price, sure they may be made In the US with global materials but it has all become commercialized so the love and or effort isn't there anymore, it's just as if they were made overseas. I would compare kicker to mtx, pyramid and lanzar, old school icons and troopers, but they never grew out of the 90s with their 300w subwoofers, that's why they end up getting a bad rep. kicker just has their prices too high for what the modern Era has to offer.
that being said, they still suck with their high tune, which is probably the only way they'll ever get loud. I'd recommend kenwood over kicker as a beginner setup or an everyday setup for a non-basshead.

Ive got 2 10 inch Comp Q round woofers in my dodge ram. They hit really hard honestly. Get down to 24hz which is super impressive. Everyone bashes on kicker but its hard to hate them when they literally just dont stop beating. I also got them for $100 each new (retail for like $230) so 700w rms subs for $100 is a no brainer.

Bought a brand new single CompR 12 in the prefab box last year and it sucked. Hit every mid imaginable but the lows sounded pitiful. I started wondering if it was a woofer instead of a subwoofer. Took it back asap. Went to 2 12” Alpine Type S; sounded lovely. Sold them for space and got a single Skar SVR 12 in prefab box and it SLAMS. Skar > Kicker imo.

Sorry but for the money I think I'd rather buy (as much as I hate to admit this as I don't like them) a SKAR Audio evl pkg with their loaded enclosures vs these kicker prefabs now don't get me wrong I owned the older version of this with the huge aero port on the side and they are built well they use the bolts and anchors into the super thin mdf but they're just tuned to high and cannot handle a lot of power for any length of time... I had a kicker 1200.1 on em and it blew the woofers then I replaced them and it blew em again so I gave up and went with upgraded cvx in the box and I was happy with it for a beginner setup but then a buddy of mine gave me a badass custom box he had built for two sundown X12's and believe it or not I put those same Kicker CVX in the better box and wow wow wowww what a massive improvement so these kicker boxes are made to be compact and sound "decent" not necessarily to get the max potential from the woofers... If I could suggest to anyone before buying one of these, I'd recommend buying a pair of say NVX VCW 12'S and then just build your own box you'd be many levels ahead of the guy who just grabs off the shelf type stuff and throws in his trunk... lol just my 2 cents

That box is actually perfectly designed for this subs.. it’s in the upper end of the volume range tuned pretty good which is soooo soooo rare for a prefab. Factory or otherwise.. ok in my defense before thiis goes the above is based on the 12” version.. I’ve not looked at the 10” and played with the 10’s in software.. I would imagine as good as the dual 12 box is designed for the comp R’s they did the same for the 10’s.
Imop the dual 12 box is one of the best bargains buys out there for what you get in return..
Ok after seeing this I’m pretty disappointed based on how these dual 10’s did compared to when you tested the single 12 in your old box.. something is off.. would’ve expected much better. Appears this box isn’t as good as first thought.. although based on the late meters software says this is a good box.. real world it’s clearly way too small

Kicker does make some good drivers. I’m a no on the prefab, but for someone who can’t sacrifice a little time and effort to create a build, then an install will work adequately. Price point is a little high in my opinion, but that’s a different conversation.

    • @natskar
      @natskar 2 года назад

I mean you’re not wrong, a custom build will always do better, but when you factor in a custom box already costing more than the subs in the loaded enclosure then it’s definitely not expensive tbh. Like I got my 3.25cuft enclosure for like $575 and was quoted around $400-450 for a 2.25cuft box
