Would be interested to see you swap them into each other's boxes and compare. I have the carpeted single 12 Skar box and liked it. Didn't care for the SDR at all. Replaced it with an SVR and was much happier. I always recommend to pay the extra $20 or $30 and get an SVR over the SDR. You can usually use a coupon cide and only pay about $10 more and it is a lot more performance.

I have an 8 in tropo in a skar box. Fits perfectly. I have the one that's got no carpet. Has the tough liner paint on it. Running at 2 ohm load single 8 on 600w RMS 2ohm mono amp. Super slappy!
These are the videos I enjoy the most, even though I'm not in the market for the cheaper subs it is nice to see who's making the better of the entry level equipment as that build quality tends to correlate to their higher tier equipment. That being said I had a feeling about the Skar outlasting the CT Sounds as I know a few people who have had no luck with CT Sounds subs handling rated power, even on their more expensive models... Would love to see what actually happened to the Skar though or if it was something else causing it to sound funny after the CT locked up.. Thanks for the content 👍
The surround on the Tropo seemed much better. The Skar was crinkling the edges during the in cab testing. Still though - either full setup for the price seems like a great deal.
I have 2 skar VVXV3 12's in my Cherokee (pounds) . A CT sounds meso 12 in my f150 a ct sounds ozone 12 in my rover and a ct sounds meso 8" in my 84 lowrider yota and the CT sounds just hit harder lower and cleaner. But I don't think you can go wrong with either. All amps are skar and never had a single issue. All in custom tuned boxes I Built. That's most important is port tuning and diameter. Run through Win ISD.

Just picked up a ct sound moso 12 for $299 with that same box and a 1500watt ct sounds amp.. I used to be a big bass head but strayed away for a while. Like 15 years..lol.. This one 12 has definitely impressed me.. triple stacked magnets , it's a beast... Now for longevity, that's to be determined..lol
Took me over 4 years to kill my pair of 12s. Ran them on the team 3k (3400rms) and getting every bit out of it.. Dwanged the hell out of them.. No smoke but started rattling. Coils dont read right, running the Strato d4s now and backed off the amp a bit. Both pairs are solid.. I am NOT nice to them
I've never ran skar but I do have 2 ct sounds 6.5 meso in a ported box and it sounds amazing. I've beat on them for well over a year and they still sound great. Honestly ct sounds is about the best bang for your buck that I've found.
@jarredhagie838 you should give American Bass a fair shake when you get the chance. I think you will find American Bass subs offer far more bang for your buck when compared to CT SOUNDS. And btw no I'm not an American Bass fanboy by any means but American Bass budget subs are beasts!!

The pressure difference in the port at those herts he's using is very different from 45 to 38. The box ported below 40 will have much much less air suspension to hold the speaker from over excursion. It take more electricity for the amp to hold the speaker where it wants it to be.
Great video! It didn't go as well for the CT sounds this time. Last time you tested them the CT beat the Scar. So its 1 to 1 at this point. As a CT guy myself, I was a little disappointed that the Scar didn't go before CT but that Scar didn't sound right. I would be interested see if It still performs the same as it did before that final test?
While I still have my reservations on some manufacturers, I would say for the average car owner and mobile music listener, both could be good choices. I'm glad there are more accessible options today than there was 20 years ago, and that there are some hidden gems as well. I look forward to seeing what you have coming up next. ✌🏽
That is crazy I was just looking for a review of the CT box last night and you put this vid out! I've had the skar before and it's good but I like this comparison.
The biggest take away in the Skar vs CT battle is warranty. Back when I tried out the SDR18's my decision was based on Skars 2yr warranty vs CT's 90day warranty. IDK if CT has upped their warranty game since then or not.
I bought the Skar SDR12 and I've had it since January, got it on sale for Christmas special for like $90. I keep 20-40 watts below RMS on the RMS rating on it in one of JP's boxes tuned to 32 Hz, I go full tilt all the time, have had no issues with it. It really dominates the lows with no hesitation. Upon first watching this video, I was starting to question my choice in buying the Skar sub, but after seeing the results, I feel pretty confident in my pick. It's definitely a good sub for the money. No complaints.

Go with the meso i got one tropoxl with the at1400.1 at 1 ohm so im giving it over 2500 watts when rated 2000 watts and im very happy with it but ahould have got the meso to be louder.😂

In your opinion…do Taramps have good protection system for blowing a sub like you did? I blew a sub on my 12k and it protected but was fine Running bass series now. How likely to pop amp when blowing sub?
Yes the taramps protection circuit is one of the best, even better than most korean amps due to the fact they monitor amperage on the output and power section of the amp. Along with the fact the speaker short circuit reacts almost instantly while some other amps it lags a bit and more often than not blows the output mosfets.
@@rashad5286 thank you so much. You seem to know Taramps amps well. I own 2 bass 20ks and 1 bass 30k and literally everybody says my 20ks are better and more reliable than the 30ks. True the 20k has same power supply as the 30? I ran a md12k for 4 years…never an issue.
Parker man... I've been following you since You first got started. Great content. I really enjoy comparison vids more. 2 VERY similarly matched/performing speakers/amps at VERY different price points being (real world) tested to the point of failure. I feel like this really helps people make the most well informed decision when spending $100's.. often several $1k's on speakers. For what is worth, I've had the SAAAME Hifonics 'Big Brutus' 2k-3kW RMS amp screwed on the back of a Kicker branded box that came with 2 12" Kicker Comp R's that carpeted box with Kicker SEWN IN.. anway. Glad to see the channel growing so much. Congrats❤on the new girlfriend too! Saw the video where she was just about blown outta the truck with bass. 😂😂😂 1 luv ✌️
Think 2 kicker comp r 12s would a ct sounds 1500.1D amp? It puts 1900 watts on an amp dyno. Probably wire it for 2 ohms lol keep it around 1200 or so watts
100% right. I have 2 12" CT Tropos in a center port prefab. 1st I hate prefabs but it must b closer to exactly what the tropos need/want. Very loud, clean, musical, and punchy. Phenomenal
Phenomenal performance and range.Back to the difference between the Tropos. Mine do have the double spider leads and looks to have a slightly better build quality than the Tropo here. Parker did another vid comparing sundown, skar, Tropo(with the regular double spider leads like mine and most of them. vs like 3 other quality subs. There was a performance difference between the CTs: 1st Parker got 141.3 dbs w/ the 1 12" , 2 he couldn't blow it unlike here(took 10k + np), more positives but the essential consciousness results were sundown #1, CT Tropo and Audio pipe tied for 2nd and the other 1 w) the others distant losers w/ skar last or 2nd to. I've had a lot of car and home audio and the Tropos r the best I've ever heard. Get them if ur even slightly considering it. U won't regret it. Also, the Tropos r going for 120 from CT rn.
I have that Skar box with the Kicker cxa800.1 on it at 1ohm. I blew the first one and Skar sent a new one for free. Been playing nice for over a year. Of course plenty louder options but this is a great option

As a Skar owner myself, I am happy to see unbiased, clear, decisive results from a reputable source. I now have a point of reference when someone asks about quality and durability
I'm willing to bet that, if this series continues, there'll be a pattern of that with every sub "compared" this way that it'll be the one with the higher sensitivity that blows first. Especially when the one with a higher sensitivity also has a smaller XMax. That's all that happened here, and I highly doubt that trend won't continue. The *only* "point of reference" that's been made here is that of being more dummy-proof and/or user-friendly. Under normal conditions, they'd both perform and last just as well as the other, provided the installer was worthy of being the one to do so. And let me save you the feedback you'd get from someone paying attention to whom you referred your "Skar quality" claims to: 5:29 🤦🏻♂️

It's extending and then contracting each way (theoretically) the same amount, so why you'd write it as "30mm" when it only goes EACH way 15mm is beyond ignorant.
Running a CT Sounds 400.1d but ended up getting a Deaf Bonce MF-10 S D2 and so far it has surpassed all my expectations.. ❤ my CT amp tho.. such a beefy little amp and makes 580w rms @ 1ohm
Got a base 22 Camry. Not looking to comp or anything just add some decent base without spending a fortune or taking up my hole trunk. Base sound is decent just needs a little something extra. Want to do a full setup but piece by piece starting with a sub and then go from there. Any suggestions if you’ve got the time would be sweet
Why does the skar look visually smaller in all dimensions as the CT sounds? Even the sub itself looks visually smaller lol. The box volume difference is so minor that it wouldn’t visually be so obviously different.
I would love to see a Rockford P3 12 in there against these. People say they are over rated and just buying a name. My single p3 d4 12 has similar ratings I bet it will smoke these hands down. Wired at 1.6 ohms powered by a prime 1200.1 in a Atrend box that’s 2.5 cubes after tuned to 36hz hits 136-137 on the glass sealed up on music. I have not tested for peak yet and done a hit on it to see what she has got yet since I have got the build finished.
when talking about the sponsored low-end sub i would have talked about the nice design of the cut-out ventilation for the voice coils it looked very unique and it kind of separates the design from others. just my take from looking at the casing . cant wait to see if the CT or skar is the winner.... I'm guessing it will be the CT.
Question parker! I have a 2017 mercedes GLE 63s, and I am looking to install some subwoofers. Can i install a 2500-watt amp without needing to upgrade my alternator? If not 2500 watts. what would be my watt max for an amplifier with my car factory?
You have a 180 Amp alternator stock in that Mercedes. Can't really find the specs on how much amperage the car draws by itself, but a good average would be about 60-90 Amps for itself or more. A 1000 watt amp would pull 83.3 amps so you will need to go 1000 watts or lower around about. I'd go with a 800 watt RMS amp to keep that alternator alive, or just sell that alternator since it's like 1k brand new and grab a 280+ amp alt for much cheaper somewhere. Do the big 3 as ppl call it on your wiring for grounds and power everywhere if you are trying to get the full wattage out of your amplifiers without burning any electrical wiring which probably costs a ton on that mercedes if something starts heating up, better safe than sorry.. You can also run a 2500W RMS amp if you lower it considerably to your amperage needs as well. So you need to lower the gain on it and not try to overpower things which also will help your amp live longer and your speakers until you can get a good alternator and or extra battery and whatnot..
I noticed when i had that white insulation in my sealed box ( similar to your ct sound box) my sdr12 was hot as fire. So i took it all out.. its not as hot amymore..

I think the larger box actually makes subs blow faster as there is less dampening in a larger enclosure. That’s why sealed can take more watts typically.
and now you have to hook up too new subs but do it in different rooms and meter the DB in each individual room as they blow/maxout. on the same amp wired at the same ohm rating on the same power load, that would be pretty neat.

I see that this is an older video. But I just wanted to point out that when I got my Skar Evl-12 over 2years ago that came in the prefab box. The all the wires going from the box connector to the sub was or is a thicker wire and all soldered from the connector to both sides of the sub. Maybe they just take the time to do that one the better subs or maybe your box was built on a Friday...ha

Parker I watch a lot of your videos and used it with a few other big car audio influencer to help in my purchase choices. I understand that skar advertises the sdr more heavily but from a build aspect I think a better comparison for Tropo would be the SVR

When you tested these 600w subs in your truck how many watts approximately were you giving them? You have an 8k watt amp? I would think they would blow immediately on that.
Had a Skar SDR12 and it was good while it lasted. Lmfao mine did the same thing it did in the video and when I took the sub out the box the coil was fried! I was using there skar amp as well only 800watt. I kept the skar box and amp and put in a new Audiopipe Quadstack 12in sub in there and haven’t looked back since!
Not a fair test. It is easy to push a sub to overheat, but the heat is not what is killing them. The distortion is. The heat expands the copper voice coil and the steel in the basket. Making it oblong and shorting the coil to the motor structure causing it so buen and let the magic smoke out. You can never over power a speaker or sub. It is not how the design works. The voice coil will use the right amout of power it needs when it needs it to reproduce the proper sound wave being sent to it. Underpowered and distortion create a lot of heat which will lead to the voice coil failing. Your amp has more to do with killing subs then the sub itself. If the amp is not efficent. It will create distortion.
I have had both but my experience was the opposite. After about 4 months of beating the hell out of the ct sounds one blew but the skars both popped quicker than Jim on American pie.
So my question is witch sub was seeing more power bc I have 2 10 ozone on a jp1.5 and never had a issue playing over rated power so something was off with that test each sub should had its own amp and load going to it no sharing bc they never see the same power

This is off topic like crazy, but what size bank should I use. I have a 220 amp alt. I have one 2k for my sub and a 500watt 4ch amp for my mids. I do have a second agm in the trunk as well. Is that enough or should I move to lithium?
I'm running CT sounds amp and subs I like them built my own sealed box. 2/8's and 2/12's. My buddy said it'll rearrange your guts lol. I did some research before purchase between the two. Only thing I didn't like about skar was the headphone jack style amplifiers. An old guy told me years ago stay away from car amplifiers with headphone jacks. I stick to that.
Nice vid . Theres few old vids outs there comparing orion hcca subs to solo x and other subs overpowering to the death and the hcca lasts the longest. Be cool if you did more of these vids with todays top subs
Best “AMP” EVER was my 90’s ORION RED HCCA 225 for me back then. I’d give anything if I would have kept it but let it go with my old 89’ CRX and it was slamming (4) 10” Kicker subs back then! I have 3 stratos 10", I believe the only problem with ct sounds in general is the Xmax, overall better quality than the skars but again the low Xmax is what hurts them, I also have 4 svr 8" and 4 zvxv2 18", the quality of the stratos are top notch but again the low Xmax is what hurts CT sounds

The tropo is a tad bigger and won't fit into the skar box. I found that out the hard way..

It would be cool to verify the box tuning. These companies are notorious for having boxes tuned differently than the listed specs. 👍
It looks like the ct has a wider port, so it would have to be bigger for the same tuning. Makes sense with it being louder at 45
Both boxes are between 35 and 45 htz I had couple of the exact same skar boxes I got a box running of 38 htz

How are their tweeters and door speakers?
The weird little sound in that SDR Skar sub was the voice coil unraveling, and rubbing the inside of the sub.

I own 2 bass 20ks and 1 bass 30k and literally everybody says my 20ks are better and more reliable than the 30ks.
True the 20k has same power supply as the 30?

Parker man... I've been following you since You first got started. Great content. I really enjoy comparison vids more. 2 VERY similarly matched/performing speakers/amps at VERY different price points being (real world) tested to the point of failure. I feel like this really helps people make the most well informed decision when spending $100's.. often several $1k's on speakers. For what is worth, I've had the SAAAME Hifonics 'Big Brutus' 2k-3kW RMS amp screwed on the back of a Kicker branded box that came with 2 12" Kicker Comp R's that carpeted box with Kicker SEWN IN.. anway. Glad to see the channel growing so much. Congrats❤on the new girlfriend too! Saw the video where she was just about blown outta the truck with bass. 😂😂😂 1 luv ✌️
Think 2 kicker comp r 12s would a ct sounds 1500.1D amp? It puts 1900 watts on an amp dyno. Probably wire it for 2 ohms lol keep it around 1200 or so watts

I have 2 skar vxf 15s 4ohm wired to 1ohm on a taramps smart 5k and they get down .not bad for a little over 600 for the pair..
The prefab tropo isn't the same as the regular tropo. I don't think the outcome will be too different though.
100% right. I have 2 12" CT Tropos in a center port prefab. 1st I hate prefabs but it must b closer to exactly what the tropos need/want. Very loud, clean, musical, and punchy. Phenomenal
Phenomenal performance and range.Back to the difference between the Tropos. Mine do have the double spider leads and looks to have a slightly better build quality than the Tropo here. Parker did another vid comparing sundown, skar, Tropo(with the regular double spider leads like mine and most of them. vs like 3 other quality subs. There was a performance difference between the CTs: 1st Parker got 141.3 dbs w/ the 1 12" , 2 he couldn't blow it unlike here(took 10k + np), more positives but the essential consciousness results were sundown #1, CT Tropo and Audio pipe tied for 2nd and the other 1 w) the others distant losers w/ skar last or 2nd to. I've had a lot of car and home audio and the Tropos r the best I've ever heard. Get them if ur even slightly considering it. U won't regret it. Also, the Tropos r going for 120 from CT rn.
I have that Skar box with the Kicker cxa800.1 on it at 1ohm.
I blew the first one and Skar sent a new one for free. Been playing nice for over a year. Of course plenty louder options but this is a great option

As a Skar owner myself, I am happy to see unbiased, clear, decisive results from a reputable source. I now have a point of reference when someone asks about quality and durability
I'm willing to bet that, if this series continues, there'll be a pattern of that with every sub "compared" this way that it'll be the one with the higher sensitivity that blows first. Especially when the one with a higher sensitivity also has a smaller XMax. That's all that happened here, and I highly doubt that trend won't continue. The *only* "point of reference" that's been made here is that of being more dummy-proof and/or user-friendly. Under normal conditions, they'd both perform and last just as well as the other, provided the installer was worthy of being the one to do so. And let me save you the feedback you'd get from someone paying attention to whom you referred your "Skar quality" claims to: 5:29 🤦🏻♂️
@@RAW_Reality CT lists their Xmax as one way. I'm pretty sure that's why most people have such a hard time modeling boxes for them in winISD.
@@BlueTegu360 Considering that "XMax" is simply the shorthanded way of writing "extension maximum", I don't see why any brand WOULDN'T write it as one way... It's extending and then contracting each way (theoretically) the same amount, so why you'd write it as "30mm" when it only goes EACH way 15mm is beyond ignorant.
Whether or not WinISD is calibrated that way to understand it properly is a different story altogether though.
Running a CT Sounds 400.1d but ended up getting a Deaf Bonce MF-10 S D2 and so far it has surpassed all my expectations.. ❤ my CT amp tho.. such a beefy little amp and makes 580w rms @ 1ohm
Got a base 22 Camry. Not looking to comp or anything just add some decent base without spending a fortune or taking up my hole trunk. Base sound is decent just needs a little something extra. Want to do a full setup but piece by piece starting with a sub and then go from there. Any suggestions if you’ve got the time would be sweet

Why does the skar look visually smaller in all dimensions as the CT sounds? Even the sub itself looks visually smaller lol.
The box volume difference is so minor that it wouldn’t visually be so obviously different.

I would love to see a Rockford P3 12 in there against these. People say they are over rated and just buying a name. My single p3 d4 12 has similar ratings I bet it will smoke these hands down. Wired at 1.6 ohms powered by a prime 1200.1 in a Atrend box that’s 2.5 cubes after tuned to 36hz hits 136-137 on the glass sealed up on music. I have not tested for peak yet and done a hit on it to see what she has got yet since I have got the build finished.
when talking about the sponsored low-end sub i would have talked about the nice design of the cut-out ventilation for the voice coils it looked very unique and it kind of separates the design from others. just my take from looking at the casing . cant wait to see if the CT or skar is the winner.... I'm guessing it will be the CT.

Question parker! I have a 2017 mercedes GLE 63s, and I am looking to install some subwoofers. Can i install a 2500-watt amp without needing to upgrade my alternator? If not 2500 watts. what would be my watt max for an amplifier with my car factory?
You have a 180 Amp alternator stock in that Mercedes. Can't really find the specs on how much amperage the car draws by itself, but a good average would be about 60-90 Amps for itself or more. A 1000 watt amp would pull 83.3 amps so you will need to go 1000 watts or lower around about. I'd go with a 800 watt RMS amp to keep that alternator alive, or just sell that alternator since it's like 1k brand new and grab a 280+ amp alt for much cheaper somewhere. Do the big 3 as ppl call it on your wiring for grounds and power everywhere if you are trying to get the full wattage out of your amplifiers without burning any electrical wiring which probably costs a ton on that mercedes if something starts heating up, better safe than sorry.. You can also run a 2500W RMS amp if you lower it considerably to your amperage needs as well. So you need to lower the gain on it and not try to overpower things which also will help your amp live longer and your speakers until you can get a good alternator and or extra battery and whatnot..
My first sub I bought was a deafbonce 3515 and it was the best sub I've ever owned for my next build I'm think of going with the 4515 or 4518

I noticed when i had that white insulation in my sealed box ( similar to your ct sound box) my sdr12 was hot as fire. So i took it all out.. its not as hot amymore..

I think the larger box actually makes subs blow faster as there is less dampening in a larger enclosure. That’s why sealed can take more watts typically.
Reallly I always thought ported box’s cooled better
and now you have to hook up too new subs but do it in different rooms and meter the DB in each individual room as they blow/maxout. on the same amp wired at the same ohm rating on the same power load, that would be pretty neat.

I see that this is an older video. But I just wanted to point out that when I got my Skar Evl-12 over 2years ago that came in the prefab box. The all the wires going from the box connector to the sub was or is a thicker wire and all soldered from the connector to both sides of the sub. Maybe they just take the time to do that one the better subs or maybe your box was built on a Friday...ha

Parker I watch a lot of your videos and used it with a few other big car audio influencer to help in my purchase choices. I understand that skar advertises the sdr more heavily but from a build aspect I think a better comparison for Tropo would be the SVR

When you tested these 600w subs in your truck how many watts approximately were you giving them? You have an 8k watt amp? I would think they would blow immediately on that.

Had a Skar SDR12 and it was good while it lasted. Lmfao mine did the same thing it did in the video and when I took the sub out the box the coil was fried! I was using there skar amp as well only 800watt. I kept the skar box and amp and put in a new Audiopipe Quadstack 12in sub in there and haven’t looked back since!
Not a fair test. It is easy to push a sub to overheat, but the heat is not what is killing them. The distortion is. The heat expands the copper voice coil and the steel in the basket. Making it oblong and shorting the coil to the motor structure causing it so buen and let the magic smoke out. You can never over power a speaker or sub. It is not how the design works. The voice coil will use the right amout of power it needs when it needs it to reproduce the proper sound wave being sent to it. Underpowered and distortion create a lot of heat which will lead to the voice coil failing. Your amp has more to do with killing subs then the sub itself. If the amp is not efficent. It will create distortion.
Should check and see if those voice coils on that CT is still a little over 1.75 inch

I have had both but my experience was the opposite. After about 4 months of beating the hell out of the ct sounds one blew but the skars both popped quicker than Jim on American pie.

So my question is witch sub was seeing more power bc I have 2 10 ozone on a jp1.5 and never had a issue playing over rated power so something was off with that test each sub should had its own amp and load going to it no sharing bc they never see the same power

I'm running CT sounds amp and subs I like them built my own sealed box. 2/8's and 2/12's. My buddy said it'll rearrange your guts lol.
I did some research before purchase between the two. Only thing I didn't like about skar was the headphone jack style amplifiers.
An old guy told me years ago stay away from car amplifiers with headphone jacks. I stick to that.

Best “AMP” EVER was my 90’s ORION RED HCCA 225 for me back then. I’d give anything if I would have kept it but let it go with my old 89’ CRX and it was slamming (4) 10” Kicker subs back then! I have 3 stratos 10", I believe the only problem with ct sounds in general is the Xmax, overall better quality than the skars but again the low Xmax is what hurts them, I also have 4 svr 8" and 4 zvxv2 18", the quality of the stratos are top notch but again the low Xmax is what hurts CT sounds
