I actually purchased this last year and paired it with a legis audio 500 watt 60 dollar amp. Put it in an 06 cobalt and it left plenty of room in the trunk. Wired at 2 ohm was pushing 400 watts and it was pretty awesome for what I paid.
Agreed. It's just so tight and accurate compared to ported, which can be a little boomy and sloppy if not tuned just right. I have ported now but I'm going sealed. I just love the accuracy. Don't ask me why I'm running an audiopipe bdc412 SPL subwoofer in a ported box while seeking SQ quality lol

I've heard both 1 fed all it wanted & 2 getting twice at 4ohms what they called for tearing up a trunk😲. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, & even Rockford (per Power series) had nothing on the 9500's!!!!
My dad ended up finding an old Mtx tc5510 (twin 10 box) at the dump, red Canadian cones. Thing still works great, getting (110DbA) 138.6Db at 55hz in the front window an inch off the roof. It's only getting around 300w(Half rms). I'm pretty sure these are from 06, definitely a decent brand.
I'd say at least one of those speakers is damaged, by the 'welding' sound and the ohms/reactions to it. If it sounds fried, it is fried, regardless whether it sounds good on music afterwards. 'Okay, WHICH one of you did this???' (Everybody keeps reeeallly quiet...or goes 'Bzzzzhhhtttt...') lol. Good video and attitude, though. 🤗😏
I've got two of the MTX sealed boxes in the back of my '06 Malibu SS. I started with one, but the two subs was just not enough. So I bought a second one, and it's a little bit closer to what I was looking for. They don't get extremely loud, and they don't get extremely low, but they do sound pretty decent. I'm running them off at JP8 wired at one ohm, and honestly I've had no issues with them. You also scrolled past my Amazon review which I thought was kind of cool.
MTX is great... always a good brand across the board. A buddy of mine still rocks a big MTX Thunder 9500. I used to have a couple of Thunder 3000's back in the day myself and I beat on them every day :D
I am a big fan of mtx from early 2000, I love the thunder series black and chrome, I have the 942, the 801D, the 1501D and a display amp from an audio shop in box whit paper sheet and manual 8001D,
I have the 55 series and 75 series. I can tell you, they dont like power too long. You will definitely start smelling them. Both series sound great though. I have 12s and 15s
@warriorplutotrent3827 let me clarify. They start smelling within some mins if you running too much power. It's hard to explain here. They will be fine at close to rms
@jlee8262 oh ok. Ill pass on these then. I wanted to take them back to Nigeria with me next year. I have a single 10 inch kicker competition ⁴ ohms running on an 1500watt amp but inwamt something that hits harder. The setup in the video looks like it will fit my corolla though.
My in the late 90s early 2000s they build the biggest subwoofer on earth that was same size as a 18 wheeler width huge monster, also the crossovers where the best out there I recommend mtx hands down with a big legacy b4 kickers 💯
I don't see this loaded enclosure in any vehicles idk where these are selling but it sure not around here in USA I used to see mtx in early 2000s but not now.
Good video brother. I didnt know they still made these. They used to be pretty good back in the day. Seem decent now especially for the money. Hell a box will cost ya close to 100 dollars. Box and two 12 inch subs mailed to you for 150 seems like a steal.
The MTX (3) 10 inch Blue Thunder subs with an MTX PRO3002 was my first system i bought when i started working at Circuit City in 1998. I'm still a professional installer to this day and i get sad thinking about what happened to MTX. We were a dealer for many years and then in like 2010ish they decided they didnt want any brick and mortar retailers and were going to online sales only. Safe to say they realized that was an awful idea and its going to be very difficult to ever make a real comeback but i wish them luck.
Thats situational advice. EXTREMELY situational lol just cuz it works with your subs in your box in your vehicle doesn't mean it works for everyone or anyone else.
Sure, short bursts with 4kW is fun. But PLEASE make a real-life torture test for these. Just put a playlist on and blast these with for example 1200w for 24 hours straight.
I memba Road Thunder II's. MTX always the budget monster. Excellent quality for decades. 👍 Couple thunder II's and a Punch 40... -r.i.p. the 90's- Edit - Guess who's back!!
About 20 years ago is when I ran MTX and I bought 6 MTX 12 terminators or something that was re-manufactured, had a red basket, red stitching, small magnet etc. for $13 so I bought 6 of them. I only ran one in my trunk in a ported 2ish foot enclosure that I built. Had a pawnshop over kill MTX amplifier black with raised gold lettering, still have it don’t remember what it is and it was the cleanest sounding sub I had ever used, it was perfect. It wasn’t going to blow the windows out of the car but for driving down the road for hours and listening the thing was rockin and wasn’t fatiguing. I still have them sitting in the basement unused, unopened waiting for nothing. I didn’t care if it blew up or if someone stole it, but it never died. I remember people listening to it and they were amazed, because it looked like something out of a pair of headphones. Since then I’ve never knocked MTX. I would still like to get a hold of one of those gigantic jackhammers and build a plexiglass coffee table/sub box around it for a conversation piece.
I had a pair of the single ported versions of these back in 2010-11 in highschool. gottem from the pawn shop lol was some decent budget bang for a newbie kid but they are cheap
I am searching for a extended cab rattler. Im tempted since the box the sa v2 12 i have broke its box...i edited it after i saw i cannot type well. Anywho...i miss bass so much and i feel i only have had a taste. I am debating on what materials to build my box with. Maybe cheap plywood and some oak tongue and groove flooring by chance? Its only 3" wide. Decisions. Hhmmm im throwing my 08 square in with radiators, ideally. But who knows.
That's not how enclosures work, unfortunately. Particularly as it relates to sealed enclosures, the bigger the box the lower the frequency: the lower the frequency the lower the sound pressure level/loudness. It's like cars lean is powerful, but hot. Rich is weak/expensive, but cool. Low ain't loud and that's what everyone is chasing. Sealed has great transient response but struggles to dig low and loud.. Vented is easy to get low and loud, but is super power hungry and doesn't play outside of tuning frequency... it's picky.
Yeah as a beginner set up sure it's good and A burp hell those Jensen's will take thousands but Yeah try putting any amount of power to that little sub for even 1 song on music you will smoke those baby coils. Oh btw saying I don't smell anything with a sealed box is a hilarious statement, unless it's leaking you ain gonna smell squat but Chinese carpet. That's another downside of a sealed sub for a newb they have no warning it's going critical until it slinkys that coil. I wouldn't claim expensive sub Pfff don't listen to those people, someone buys this and a smart 3 or even a solid 1k will be very disappointed in just a few minutes.
Try back in your box up all the way to the license plate all the way at the back of the trunk facing forward into the car facing forward into the seats with the box all the way back at the beginning of the trunk beside the lid and compare that to the rear firing into the trunk and I will bet you money that you will get a higher number facing into the cabin from as far back in the trunk near the lid as you can get the box
From time u said u dont believe in break in i was out .its a real thing softening up the spider and soft parts will result in more xmax and move more air hence more bass .. btw one good 12 in a ported box on half that power and that box dead

It's possible, but these subs are a little tough, so I wouldn't say they are fried.
I was generally surprised by their performance
Ran 4 MTX 9500 15's on two TE 1501D's back in the day.
I've used the ported version of this set up and put some kicker subs in the enclosure and they had a great all around bass sound
It's hard to argue with a classic.
This makes me miss having my old stereo system. 2 12" Kenwood speakers and a 600w Boss amp. I wanna get a new setup now!
MTX is great... always a good brand across the board. A buddy of mine still rocks a big MTX Thunder 9500. I used to have a couple of Thunder 3000's back in the day myself and I beat on them every day :D
My new favorite Channel!! Keep it up bro.
Thanks! I'm glad you like the videos.
Those are very efficient speakers. All you need is a good 600watt amp. and it would last a long time. And sound great
Mtx was my first sub❤ loved them back in the day
This guy is the pinnacle of car audio youtube. love your vids!
Glad you like them!
This was my first setup and yes they sound great I kinda want to sell my sundown 18 and go with 4 of these
I am a big fan of mtx from early 2000, I love the thunder series black and chrome, I have the 942, the 801D, the 1501D and a display amp from an audio shop in box whit paper sheet and manual 8001D,
I just sold some mtx 9500 12s bad ass subs even 20 yrs later
The terminator boxes were all originally ported at one time , even the truck boxes
I have the 55 series and 75 series. I can tell you, they dont like power too long. You will definitely start smelling them. Both series sound great though. I have 12s and 15s
Thanks for the tips!
How long? They won't last a two hour drive?
That sounds like a coil material problem
MTX has a great history and still makes some great products. It's good to see people still appreciate them.
I had Badass MTX amp back in 97 on a 15" kicker solo baric in a band pass box. Sounded amazing for 750 watts. Man I miss that setup.
I’ve had terminators before nice sq deep bass I like the mtx sledgehammer boxes better because I like ported.
It was actually Steve Irby, the owner of Kicker/Stillwater designs who made the first mobile enclosure.
Just research it bro. MTX Audio created the first mobile audio enclosure in 1984.
I don't see this loaded enclosure in any vehicles idk where these are selling but it sure not around here in USA I used to see mtx in early 2000s but not now.
I'm assuming that trunk and the whole car is dynamatted. That was pretty insane with no rattling.
Good video brother. I didnt know they still made these. They used to be pretty good back in the day. Seem decent now especially for the money. Hell a box will cost ya close to 100 dollars. Box and two 12 inch subs mailed to you for 150 seems like a steal.
It's a great deal for sure!
They went out of business.Unfortunately I really miss The 9500 15
Now we need to see 2 of them
The MTX (3) 10 inch Blue Thunder subs with an MTX PRO3002 was my first system i bought when i started working at Circuit City in 1998. I'm still a professional installer to this day and i get sad thinking about what happened to MTX. We were a dealer for many years and then in like 2010ish they decided they didnt want any brick and mortar retailers and were going to online sales only. Safe to say they realized that was an awful idea and its going to be very difficult to ever make a real comeback but i wish them luck.
hey man I saw u do these budget woofers which aren't bad but would u also consider trying the Rockville dk512 and see how they perform?
MTX were huge at my high school (90-94). I kept my MTX subs and enclosure until 2011. I had to move so I ended up selling them😢
Dang, hope they went to a good home!
Still bumpin the 02 chrome mtx thunder
What beginner amp would you recommend for this box?
I'd say stick with the MTX lineup.
I recommend an EVOX 35k or DC AUDIO 20K. Either will muv em a lil.
I love that you test everything 😌
Thanks, I try to give a good overview.
You should put the subs closer to the rear about 4-6" from the taillights get a better score and sound
Good tip
Thats situational advice. EXTREMELY situational lol just cuz it works with your subs in your box in your vehicle doesn't mean it works for everyone or anyone else.
BTW!...Blue Thunder Is the Best Lineup Of them All 4 MTX in the Mid 90'z and Early 2000
I had a set of terminators, can confirm they bump hard for the price
Sure, short bursts with 4kW is fun. But PLEASE make a real-life torture test for these. Just put a playlist on and blast these with for example 1200w for 24 hours straight.
now what if you build a custom ported enclosure for those subs? I did that and I managed to get a 135db on 400 watts with some other subs
It's hard to say because it subs doesn't come with specs TS parameters. But not all subwoofers do well in a ported enclosure.
I memba Road Thunder II's.
MTX always the budget monster. Excellent quality for decades. 👍
Couple thunder II's and a Punch 40... -r.i.p. the 90's-
Edit - Guess who's back!!
Those Punch amps were nuts
I’m loving the back to back content ….. when you post, I grab a coke and sit my ass down to watch 😂
Nice! Did you do a run with the seats up for us that dont have an option to let the seats down?
I did not. AND I forgot to get the trunk open flex shots. My bad
😂 I seen that big toe nail on the floor of ur car next to the SPL meter at 14:54 lol 🤣🤣 cool video tho
Time for a budget 6 12s C-pillar wall 🤙
I had a pair of the single ported versions of these back in 2010-11 in highschool. gottem from the pawn shop lol was some decent budget bang for a newbie kid but they are cheap
You should test theSundown Audio LCS v2 D4 12" 300W RMS Dual 4Ohm Subwoofers
What amp would you recommend tk use with this?
@BudgetBassHead,PLease do A Review on a Rare Blue Thunder Subwoofer if U could get a hold of it Please!!!!
What’s a good budget amp to power these subs and two coaxial 6.5 front speakers, thanks in advance
Too many choices. It literally boils down to your budget.
I do belive patrick from robot said these actually outsourced and made by Boss audio.
Dang that's crazzy, 140db for around $140 (with Tax)? Them nice Shoes You had on cost more than that box w/Subs. LOL Thanks for the review.
It's hard to argue with the price.
Damn - the price is CRAZY!
I really enjoyed this video. I always wondered why those are so popular. Now I know
It's a great setup for the money.
Use 3/4 inch MDF (heavier) for better sound quality, or Plywood (requires more treatment) for lighter construction.
My friend had the 10's back in probably 95. We thought it bumped at the time
Agreed through and through. Interesting history, ty sir for sharing your experience.
Less than 2 bills extremely good 👍 🤞
Thanks for watching!
@BudgetBassHead yes sir
Budgetbasshead can we get you to build a bigger box for them. See if we can up the score.
Ehh get a custom box and you can do a 40 on the glass with 1 12 on less than 1k watts.
Wow 4k watts is nuts
I honestly didn't think they would take that much.
Does it put out lossless?
I have that same shirt actually wearing it right now
😁
From time u said u dont believe in break in i was out .its a real thing softening up the spider and soft parts will result in more xmax and move more air hence more bass .. btw one good 12 in a ported box on half that power and that box dead
From a testing perspective I don't break in subs. I do out-of-box performance testing.
Break in? WTF? Ive been in this biz since Moby Dick was a guppy n never broke in subs.
