Advertisement, performance and affordability all play into it imo. While probably not the most high quality equipment they’re definitely a big step up from the common super cheap amps out there.
Lightning Audio anyone?? Had a sub and amp combo from them and the amp died in a month. The LA subs lasted well and sounded pretty good though but were definitely cheap.
I've been into car audio for about 20 years now. I like Skar audio because it is a great value and has good sound. I had their 12-inch since sub, box, and amp combo. For a single 12 and a 800 watt rms amp I was impressed. It got plenty loud in the civic I had, and it played deep and good SQ. I was satisfied with it. Now I have a F-150 and I'm going to put in four 8 inch skar subs and reuse the amp that I already have.
I bought one of their 10" subwoofers a few years ago, it is still going strong, used a custom box that used to house a highly touted and rather expensive sub, that went teats up under moderate use. The Skar is staying.
I’ve been in the hobby since the late 80’s so definitely not kid but the value of Skar definitely resonates with me. For some of their amps they clearly use the same build houses and basic designs that Sundown audio does . While the exact circuits might be slightly different from Sundown, the price difference makes Skar a better choice budget wise. When it comes to higher power class a/b 4 channel amps the choices are few under $500 and Skar hits the sweet spot in physical dimensions/power/price for me. I’ve been running an skv2-100.4ab going on 5 years with great sound and zero problems. I would highly reccomend Skar to anyone.
@@evilbeetlekustomscreations4965 You ask a very open ended question. There are many questions for you. Are you looking for bass or decent sound quality? Will you do this yourself or pay to have it done? Do you have the original 6v generator or have you upgraded to a modern 12v alternator? Is there any speakers in there already? I can offer suggestions but these questions need to be answered. Also, an entire system for $800 will involve some compromises no matter what your goal is.
Cool story bro, but skar doesn’t hold a candle to sundown in any way. They may sort of look kind of the same, but that’s where the similarities stop. Not even the same ballpark. You get what you pay for.
@@TheDoozie43 So you obviously own Sundown equipment and are feeling defensive for some reason. You need to read these comments carefully. I didn’t say they are identical and I clearly said Skar was a budget choice. The fact is that neither Skar nor Sundown do any engineering or manufacturing and that a limited number of Korean factories make amps for many brands. For the particular amp that I bought , at the time I bought it, you could compare the circuit boards and sundown had an amplifier that matched the skar perfectly in dimensions and basic circuit layout. The only difference was the case and a few additional components on the Sundown. Was the sundown better? It probably was, but the price difference was too great. Sundown is a good brand but at a price range that is not for me. Skar is great value, and since it came from the same factory, its still working fine after 5 years.
I got a skar skv2-200. 200 rmsx4. Got it for $200 “open box” off eBay. I love my rp.75. Can’t wait to get the skv2 going. I figure I’ll have it run my 2 image dynamics 12 sub woofers, and get some midrange speakers that can handle a lot of power lol.
@@TheDoozie43 you have no clue, well other than you get what you pay for... but if you are buying SD amps then you are wasting your money. Too many better, superior amps on the market. Yes the SALT Series amps are stellar amps but they are priced about 3 times too high, definitely not worth the price even when on sale, that's how overpriced they are. Ryan how bout them SD SAEv3 amps? Bet you love those. Lol that series screams cheap, from the looks all the way to the internals!
I got RP 1200 and a SDR 12inch and I'm pushing 700 watts. I love the prices they charge and the quality of the woofer can take a dam beating. Eventually I will upgrade to better but for being my first system at 25 years old I'm pleased so far. Great video btw
I wish we had this kind of power vs price point when I was into Car Audio back in my days.... 90s. I think im still making payments on my punch 45,punch 150, 4x punch 12s, 2x mids/highs setup.
@@jcspaz4l if not more! A PPI A1200 used to be something like $1400. Old soundstream or Xtant amps were expensive too. Let's not forget Mcintosh stupid prices. I would go into car audio shops and just dream because I couldn't afford most of it then.
For the price, a lot ain’t touching Skar. I just got real deep into Audio about a year ago. I always have had systems but always budget stuff thrown together. Skar was my first “real” set up. People say it’s trash or not loud until they hear my 98 Buick Regal or my wife’s Kia Sorento.. I am redoing my build now and won’t be using Skar but it’s definitely good as a starter system.
From personal experience I think skar is so popular because they have wiring kits that come with everything you need, and the fact that they sell full packages with subs, a box for the sub/subs, wiring kit, and a good size amplifier to pair it all together. my first car audio setup was the fully loaded evl-12 package that came with the RP-1500.1D and it was perfect but now I'm looking to upgrade to the 5k-10k watt range with a good set of 12s, which I might actually also get from skar because they make products for almost every price range and budget. Finally another thing that makes skar so good is that the shipping was estimated foe around 5-7 business days and my package showed up in 2 days.
i originally bought their sdr bass kit single 12in and it was great for 3yr till the sub blew. but the amp was 800rms and rated higher than the sub so its w.e, my only complaint WAS the wiring kit. yea it comes with everything but its very cheap Copper Clad Aluminium, I purchased a 100% copper wiring kit separately

I have had an RP1200.1 since 2016. It's been in some seriously abusive situations and keeps working flawlessly. It was under direct sunlight in my hatchback for so long the anodized black turned gold.
I've ran the skar LP amps and all skar components and skar vd10s in my sierra for several years with not a single issue. Sounds great and is loud AF. I've ordered and installed skar equipment in several friends and family member vehicles and everyone loves the gear and the price. Performance at a great price point is why a lot of people choose skar. But wat do I know. I'm a fanboy.
Matthew Yocham yes Skar does have decent prices & I also have skar gear myself but their are several other companies priced very competitively to Skar and some of those companies also offer great performance for the dollar, especially when looking at different brands of subs or amps either one. Currently I have a pair of skar zvx15 subs and one zvx18 sub. Could years ago I had two 12" Skar Evl subs & the Evl are phenomenal subs in my opinion, especially for the money. The Evl just couldn't dig near as deep hitting the real low notes which is where the zvx sub shines. Though the Evl sounds much better than the zvx, the zvx is spl only where the Evl offers nice SQ while also offering some good SPL at the same time. If I ever buy Skar subs again I will definitely be getting the Vxf subs!
Rp2000 has been on my xfl 15 for 3 years. Never went into protect or had any issues what so ever. Got it for the time being until I could afford a solid setup for 2 xlf 15s but this setup amazes me still so I kept that setup in that vehicle
I like amplifiers that are really efficient so I don’t have to be cramming so many batteries in my vehicle. But it is a good value for the money that’s for sure. 808 Dreams ftw! 👍🏻🔊
Their Amps really put out the power that they describe. I have one 12 sdr skar sub paired with 800.1 skar amp in my wife’s 14 Ford Taurus sel and it literally flexes the roof and rear window. I have 2 12 inch sdr in my grand Cherokee paired with the skar 1200.1 and can only go half gain , the back doors will move with the right song lol. Budget bangers for sure. I’ll be installing 4 6x8 rpx door speakers in my f150 platinum and give an update. Skar now , skar forever
I had a RP2000 back in the day! Honesty was not overly impressed. Probably had to do with that horrible efficiency! But yes Skar has definitely created a product for the younger people getting into bass, which in my opinion is great!
When a new company shows up on the scene it usually grabs everyone's attention and it is given it's fair shake. If the results are good and people gives it good reviews and thumbs ups, for some reason it catches on. Having a cool look and name. I mean a name like skar. Like skarface. It's appealed to the right people. Younger enthusiasts. Plus being in the exact price range of what the younger enthusiasts could afford was no mistake on Skar's executive team.
I got a dual 12 enclosure and a 1200 watt monoblock from Skar. Both products look good, work great, and seem durable. I don’t see why I should pay anymore money when this works perfect.
Price point!!!!! $200 for a 2000w amp and $275 for a 1500w rms sub! Customer service is great!!! After 6 months one of the sleeves on the rcas pulled out. I mailed it back and they sent me a brand new one. They said I'm covered for 2 years. I am happy! Just need to build a bigger box now
Why is Skar so popular? I’ll give 2 of my favorite reasons. 1. Cost effective. You get good quality for the dollar. I remember a “good” amp being $1/watt. 2. It does what it says on the box. If it’s a Skar 200 or a Skar 2000, there’s no doubt about the power output. I’m sure back in the days before Big D Wiz and RUclips we had a bunch of “you big dummy” moments. Boss is still handing them out. I learned about the fuse rating/power output back then the hard way.
Early 70's I bought an item from the local audio store, meant for car audio. It was call "Sound Exploder". Output of car deck went into input of "exploder". Output goes to speakers. Holy crap, the sound was exploded alright, so distorted, amp was unusable. Tried a second unit and it was exactly the same way.
Great video!!! Thank you sir. I enjoyed every second of that video that you just made. I have two of the RP 1200s in my truck. One for each of my SKAR audio svr D2 12-in subs. They perform great, and I've had no problems out of them. Great value for the money. I'm SKARRED for life. I'm 49.
Same here. I'm 48yrs old and I have videos of my SKAR subs - plus installation videos for the 8" sub I put in the back of the Jeep. These speakers HIT and have little to no distortion for my setup.
Very cool to see other guys my age doing the car audio thing too!! 🙏 I'm about to Install the system in my latest vehicle, a first Gen Grand Cherokee, just gotta run the wire, install the 2nd battery in the back, and build or buy the box that will let my favorite Sub (a 10yr old Audiopulse Axis quad 1 ohm voice coil, 55'ish lb, 2500 RMS Watt sub) perform at it's absolute Best it can!! I'll definitely be checking out your vids too BTW, I've been thinking about getting some NASTY 8's or something around there, maybe for good mid-bass!?!?
@@BabyCharlotteschannel man, there are guys out there with 6.5" subs and I had no idea they hit that hard! I was always about 8s, but after seeing these new videos??? Man, they are improving the technology on speakers to where you don't need massive subs to make massive bass. I personally like rumbling bass versus HITTING bass. I like the smoothness versus the pop of it. Something about the roundness of the bass makes it sound rich and full, versus that thump hitting after a hollow section of music. The thump is good for scaring the crap outta somebody. LOL! You can get adrenaline going with those subs! hahahaha! I don't think I'll ever be too old for a nice sound system. We've been thru the era of the 10s and Cerwin-Vega 12s. We went thru the Kicker era. And now we're seeing new manufacturers engineering some impressive subs. I like to see/hear what people have going because it's like a musician and their instrument, all setting it up with different amps and speakers. The sound you can get from the perfect setup is like WOW! It's like a concert in a car, brotha! LOL! Crystal clear and no distortion. All levels in the hertz spectrum tuned perfectly. And just a badass sound!
@@MicDropBBQ growing up my dad had 4 8inch in his Chevy truck he handed that truck to me and my brother. When I got my license I took it to car audio shop for new amp wiring and clean up of wiring and the guy who did the job was surprised how hard the 8inch where hitting lol he thought they were 12s
I bought 2 of their 10s in their box for 240 bucks. I've been pretty impressed with them. They look like higher end woofers with no fancy looking cones and a regular dust caps with a fat foam surround, reminds me of a DD, DC, Sundown, AQ or Soundqubed now.
Had one of these hooked to 2 Skar VD12s under the rear seat of my Silverado. Been a solid system for over 3 years now. No complaints especially at the low cost.
I have had all manner of hi end equipment since the 90's. I bought one of these based on price and dyno test. I do not regret it one bit. I did find out though if you have good electrical that peaks near 16v offload that it will go into protect with a quickness. Also when pushed hard for a while at lower ohms it will get warm. Other than that it is a rock solid powerful amp that sounds pretty damn good.
Will it go into protect even if you have, say, an skv 3500 but are only putting 2000 watts into it when it hits 16volts? Or does the wattage not matter.
@@bailey2517 It is simply over voltage protection. Strong alternators will boost voltage and amperage to keep up with the current draw, during short burst of bass the current demand drops and the voltage spikes faster than the alt can adjust causing over voltage momentarily. More battery capacity can fix this but sometimes thats not possible. This amp just kicks off the moment it sees 16v, some will deal with it for a few seconds some will not. Its not necessarily a bad thing just the way it was designed and is something to keep in mind if you have decent electrical with not alot of other things drawing current. For instance all that needs to be done to keep this from happening in the vehicle it was installed was turn on something like the lights or ac / heat just to add a little more draw.
@@bailey2517 Only have experience with the RP but many amps have over voltage protection. I have a Punch 100.2 that is protected at 16v as well but just hitting it quickly wont shut it down like the skar does.
I've had my RP-1200 for about 7 months, and I've never had an issue with it, until I started running a single DDX, wired to 2ohms. I've never had an issue running my VXF or other DDX at 1ohm. I may have to switch back to a 1ohm load, until I get that RP-1500
FWIW - I use Skar Audio subs/coaxials in all my builds...and I was a teen in the 1980s. They have great entry level subs and some real bongo-bongo ones. Most have pure copper voice coils vs CCA or aluminum. Copper sounds better.
Seems decent for the price. Looks like low-priced, in stock, easy to find, and a wide variety. If you're just looking for something to throw in your car for some noise, this is far from a bad choice. After you've dropped $10000+ in restoring/building a performance car, an expensive stereo is not a priority. Love the playlists in the video!
I just got a Black Diamond 12 inch a few weeks ago. It was one that was compared to the Skar and had free one day so I went for it. I cannot explain how satisfied I am with it. Put it in a ported box in my 09 Pontiac GT and I absolutely love it. Easy to power and has more bass than I really need. Car audio is getting cheaper and still maintains decent quality, I’m really happy to see that.
This is the very amp that made me respect this line👍❤️I have been a JL Audio fanatic for years 😁Guys these are a very clean and subs perform extremely well at half the cost of most comparable 👍
Hello a little late and i was wondering what is the best audio speaker amp and sub setup (price does not matter) i want to upgrade my mustangs audio equipment since its a base model
@@williamoliveros76 get a couple sundown zv6’s on a crescendo 8k and find a custom box that works best for the subs, probably tuned 29-30hz. that will be a solid set up
Coming from the 80s/90s- Skar has figured out the secret. They’re putting out a good product, not over rating it and most of their customer service rocks. I bought a pair of 6x8s a few months late had one cutting out- emailed and they responded quickly with an RA. When I went to pull it to send our, found a wiring issue rather than a bad speaker. A few days later they followed up as I hadn’t shipped them out. I explained the issue wasn’t product related- they still offered to replace them just in case- and then kept the RA open for a while in case I decided to send them in. Happy to say 3 years later they’re still jamming hard, sound great and never one hiccup.
As long as you have the electrical and your going for spl. Really hard to beat the amount of power of their amps for the price. They have a single 18 sub and box that would go great with that amp. Skarr is a great basshead starter brand for anybody.
Been running an RP-150 4-channel for around 4-5 years now and no issue whatsoever. Install was done professionally and I made sure to run the right speakers to not cause any early-amp-death. Sub amp is Sound Digital and that as well has been doing great
Well done video. I enjoyed using the skv2 100.4 for a couple yrs. An inexpensive class ab that does rated and sounded pretty good. The way more expensive amp that replaced it doesn't sound a whole lot better.
I run a SKAR 8" sub in my Jeep sidewall and a 10" SKAR tube in front of it. LOUD as hell, and didn't break the bank at all. CRAZY, clean bass and not that raggedy, junky clunky bass a lot of subs give you. My videos on my channel show both in operation, so get some headphones or a speaker and kinda listen to my videos. Super clean and fills the cabin of the Jeep nicely.
I have the Skar dual SDR 12 combo kit from when it came with the 1500w amp for $500. It’s a solid set up and probably the best without needing to upgrade electrical. Now the combo cost more and comes with only 1200w amp.
It was the first cheap amp that was available at such a cheap price that did a lot of power. The Google ads are insane no matter what I search skar comes up first. The skar loaded package sdr 12s with amp and wiring for 492 is a crazy deal. Nothing can touch it for the money that I've tested.
Glad to see you reviewed this amp! I've owned one for around a month, it's powering their SDR 12 D4 (wired to 2ohm ofc) in an old Harmony audio box. I'll likely be adding a 2nd SDR in a dual 12 sealed box. This amp, in my experience so far, seems more than capable of powering both of them. I've also noticed the same LP vocal 'issue' you noted at the end, however, my trunk is sealed from the cabin of my car so I don't notice it while driving. After I add the 2nd SDR I'd like to put an EVL in my Harmony box on its own RP 1500 and run those three 12s, but as you stated the efficiency of these amps are not great. I'll be doing the Big 3+Battery soon, aswell as a bigger ALT, my 120A isn't going to cut it with 2 of their amps bumping lol.
Good info, though I haven't personally run their stuff yet I have been partial to CT Sounds, ESP with the 15" Tropos which has been absolutely amazing and taken far more power than it's rated for (it's in my Harmony 15" box too, funny you mentioned that), with a super sick 2500watt RMS 12in I bought over 10 years ago now, an Audiopulse Axis quad 1 ohm voice coil 55'ish Pound Sub!! That thing has been simply amazing and although it was put away for a couple of years, it has been amazing, I'm about to put it in a sub box that is solid enough and worthy of having this baby in it!!! 🙏 Anyway, there are some really good budget stuff from numerous brands, Orion (xtr series specifically), a bunch of really good performing Korean made amps Big D has tested, and even subs like American Bass and other's..
You shouldn't mix sub brands/sizes/models, pick one and stick with it. The region your subs play at should only cover two or three octaves, it shouldn't need any help. Same with enclosure types, don't mix them either.
Value. Plain and simple. Been into car audio since I was a teenager. I'm almost 50 now. I've had mostly second-hand brand name stuff, but never "the best". I've had some experience with "name brand". I only needed a cheap amp and sub to put in my wife's car to replace a blown factory sub. I "only" used the 500D .... I underestimated the amp. The sub is good, too... but the amp. WOW. I've had other "500 watt" amps. Either I've had some misadvertised crap, or they under rate their amps. WOW. I wanted to replace some of my other stuff, but they sold our online, and now I don't have the cash. But maybe later. They impressed me.
Steve is the Man. When I bought my DD-1 I asked him to sign the inside of the box and he did. I will cherish that box for many years to come. Keep up the great content.
@@orangejjay damn that's crazy that someone can charge a fan money for a signature. I could understand if he or she was doing donating the funds to someone or some organization.
I had same oil like substance from a amp I purchased from Sonicelectronix, but it still worked. Skar is popular for different reasons, many mentioned in the comments. Good publicity, bad publicity, still publicity. I also noticed after the pandemic many cheaper amps have a problem with the crossover, with words coming through with lower set points.
55% efficiency. Ouch! Just remember that means it's wasting 45% of that power which is over 500 watts. During LONG bass pedal jams close to clipping that puppy is gonna get hot AF! Definitely will shut down under such conditions. And that's not factoring in being inside a car on a hot day...
Running one rp1200, bought new from skar about a year ago. Pretty reliable overall with the occasional safety shutdown. It will intermittently shut off during high outputs but seconds later turn itself back on, I believe it to be a symptom of my alternator pushing around 15V on heavy loads. No external fuses was alarming to me at first as I'm accustom to running JL and kicker...but this thing pushes some power! Only con I have would be that it doesnt like running constant loads at 1 ohm or lower
As a FedEx guy I deliver A LOT of Skar audio stuff and I haven't wanted to test it out myself cause I'm more of a brand name person. Really cool to see that despite the efficiency being low, and the 3.5mm for the bass knob, it's a solid budget option.
And that's why they are so popular. 2 600 rms subs in a damn good prefab with amp and wiring for $492. It's crazy I've tested most the other loaded packages and this one kills it for the price.
Same way with drums and guitars! I just got my 9yo her first drum set amazing what 300 bucks will get you vs when I was starting in the 90s. My teenager is buying stuff for her first stereo and asked me about skar audio. My local shop stocks skar and ds18 I’m impressed with skar but now how well it holds up is my only question. She just wants to be loud like me but for cheap and doesn’t care about legacy brands like I do (Rockford Fosgate t series is what I have).
I have two 12" EVL-12 D2 subs in my Suburban and the sound always turns heads when I'm on the road. Was surprised how great they sound for the price since I'd never heard about Skar's products before.
I’ve had punch back in the 90’s.Punch 150 on to 15’s. JL in the 2010. 2 12’s with a punch amp. Now the Skar under seat 2 12’s with the 1500 in my truck now. I enjoy it every time I drive and have not had any issues with Skar. I going to try Skar’s 15 in their box in my wife’s car.
Very nicely done review and I love that plexiglass sub box! I bought Skar's SK-M9005D 5 channel amp and ran that last year for a while along with their equalizer. I love their power but I always heard some hiss from the highs with that amp. I eventually lost the 5th channel, the sub channel would come and go when it wanted to, maybe heat related I'm not sure.
I bought this amp based on Steve Meades test alone. I have this RP1200.1d on a Skar Audio EVL 12 running it at 2 ohms, also using a Audio Control LC2i which is the best in my opinion line out convertor. I have had a lot of car audio in my life. And Skar Audio for the price compared to other equipment I have had is really good. Rattles the eyeballs and sets off the accident event recorder on my dash cam.
Hey Derek a you should do a video on amp efficiency. Kind of a shoot out between all the amps you have tested and categorize them by ohm load and wattage
This my go to amp. Affordable, most stock vehicles will handle it. Not hard to break 140s with it. True power amp, good sound. Affordable. People always ask what amp I have.
I love the 3.5mm jack idea. Those tabs on the phone jacks break off if you fart while pulling them between a trim panel. And yeah I know that you reverse vinyl tape the tabs before you run them through. But a 16 year old running his first install does not. Skar FTW!
I love Skar because they don't deface their ICs as Sundown does. That is a type 4 drive which is a proven topology for driving transistors. The primary failure I see with these is broken transistor legs from mounting the amp to a high vibration surface. Second most common issue is a blown output section from what I believe is transistor failure from excessive heat.
The amps are a bit unimpressive for me, I like Sundown better, but I like Skats complete line, u can get into game relatively easy. Around $1k gets u a 5 channel components + amp + 10-12 sub and enclosure and amp wiring kit, ur good to go.
The performance of Skar products is unmatched for the price point. Used to cost thousands to get this type of performance back when I was growing up and rattling windows in the neighborhood.
Not true at all. There's much much better performing higher quality subs and amps for the price.. I don't hate on skar because they at least do rated power but they're def not anywhere near best bang for buck. Their wiring kits say it all about their quality.
Honestly I’ve been running skar for around 3 years now. Starter with the evl 15. Then ordered a rp2000.1 which came damaged so I got another and it was damaged so I just ended up with the skv2 2500. Over all was a very clean and loud setup. I upgraded to 2 ddx 12s which really got stupid loud. Then I went two vxf 12s and ran them on a smart 3k bass and it blew my mind bc of all the reviews on how much power they say vxf can handle. So I upgraded to a smart 5k on the vxf and again was blown away. For the price I could not be happier at the time. I used a spl labs v2 meter and was able to hit 146.9 sealed at 40hz on passenger window in a 2016 Subaru legacy. Since then I traded my car in and got a 22 impreza and wanted to upgrade the stock sound so I went super budget and got sundown sfb1000 on 2 sundown lcs v2 12s which were really impressive but I wanted more after bumping them all summer so I decided to throw the evl 15 in and now I remember why I love skar lol. Small price and somehow even being powered by a 1000w amp it’s slamming harder than the 2 sundown 12s. And I’m on all stock electrical now big 3 no extra battery just 1 run of 1/0 ofc. Voltage stays in the 13s. For the price of skar subs I feel like I’ll be a customer for a while. As far as the amps, I would rather go with taramps or something in that price range that puts out more than rated for half the price. No hate against skar what so ever but after spending over $500 for the skv2 2500 compared to a smart 3 bass or smart 5k I’ve actually seen the difference and I feel like the price gap between wattage per dollar is crazy on skars part if you really sit down and look at the price of the amps and the huge jump in price on some of them.
I had an RP-2000.1D running 3 12’s at 1.33 ohm. Swapped to a deaf bonce 2900.1. Both amps about the same price. The DB is 1/3 the size and didn’t get nearly as hot. Nothing changed but the amp. Stock alt. XS power agm battery. 1/0 power and ground. Big 3. The DB amp had noticeably better cone control and was noticeably louder.
Best Budget Build for Beginners. 2 Skar DDX Subs $139-$169 x 2 (dual 4 ohm) 1 Taramps MD3k or HD3K $160-$220 (1 or 4 ohm version) 1 large ported box $50-$300 (Stay within specs, bigger is better) 1 0 gauge OFC wire kit $80-$100 1 0-4 gauge wire reducer $8-$20 1 extra car battery $150-$300 If your just starting to get into car audio please take this advice. Don't buy the super cheap stuff. Its never any good. The ratings are lies and cost more per watt than ANY of the slightly more expensive brand names. This doesn't hold true for every company as there are some smaller cheaper brands that make rated power, but the majority of the cheap China car audio doesn't.
Take off one of those subs get the best 4 channel amp you can and get two component speakers for the front and two coaxial ones for the back from Recoil and put them on channel 1 & 2 parallel left and right side for stereo sound . 400w RMS to the regular speakers & only 1 sub will sound better than only crappy headunit powered speakers.
@@coolcatclickos Your talking SQ 💩 most guys watching this are 17 and don't give a 💩 about it. In all honesty it would sound better if they kept both subs and just bought a 4 channel amp for all the doors. Taking away subs is a stupid idea, and takes a lot away from the presence of the low end freq. Your acting like beginners don't have a budget to work with. I know you boomers don't have budget constraints and get to do all kinds of crazy BS with your loads of wealth accumulated before Trump caused rapid inflation, but the rest of America has budget restrictions
I own some skar products and I'm genuinely happy. Ive had dc audio fosgate in the past and I could afford to throw 1k+ at a system but after reading reviews and watching videos like these I went full send on skar and wasn't disappointed. As a parent that works their ass off to pay bills and afford some beat I made a happy compromise and I'm glad I did. I get head turns and plenty of smiles from passengers along with a cool sticker and money in the bank haha
I have their more expensive 10-in subwoofer enclosure. It works pretty good I got to say. Could it be better yes. But could it be better for the price I highly doubt it. I think I got it on Black Friday or something like that and paid $92 for $140 box they normally sell or something along those lines. And over making it myself much happier than doing it. Seeing how my table saw just fried and decided to quit. Replacing $500 table saw is not something I just do overnight.
Just got my skar rp-1200.1D today I'm new into bass and I'm a skar fan subs should be delivered today cannot wait to get this all hooked up slam on brothas
I’ve been building systems and box’s since 1982….yep I’m old lol! Anyway I’ve had and used pretty much everything. Performance wise, Scar reminds me of the old fosgate punch amplifier line, at the price of the old pyramid stuff when they were starting out! That means a lot of power, quality and performance at a very good price. I’m in my work truck 2-4 hours everyday commuting to jobs etc… my current set up in the work truck is 4 AC10D, 10” subs is sealed enclosures, with each pair being powered by a Skar RP-1200.1D wired to 1 Ohm, controlled with the Skar Crossover. The bass is super clean and powerful. With what is being offered in car audio today, I wouldn’t recommend any other company than Skar for the average bass enthusiast.
Skar is lrobably pretty hard to beat for the money but I've been looking into powerus amps myself! The 8k can push over 11k for $900 Also the down for sound jp line! Like the hp 23 which can push 3k for $300-$350
Jp234 is a beast 4 channel. I put one in a boat. Crazy loud. I just ordered one myself. Considering the crescendo 140x4 was $300+...$340 shipped for a 300x4 is insane.
Eric McGinnis I'd take the JP amps over the Skar RP series amps any day! The RP series get hot 🔥 Imo Taramps is better bang for the buck compared to the Skar RP amps. I had a Skar RP2000.1D and only kept it for two weeks before sending it back to skar for refund. I'll definitely give skar credit for honoring their "30 day no hassle return policy" as they quickly sent me a free return shipping label and refunded my money in less than a week. I'll also admit the RP2000.1D amp is the only skar product I've had that I did not like. I've loved everything else from Skar that I've bought. Evl & Zvx are both great subs & each handle ridiculous amounts of power over their advertised rated & they handle that power with authority!
@@itdoesntmatterwhatyourname6128 look up the powerus 8k or even the 10 k and if u watch the bench test vidios they push about 12k arms for $900 but if u watch the repair vidios I think its barevid vidio on them he explains how they're build quality surpasses most others! However, nowadays most all high power amps are bad a$$ especially compared to years ago
I've had alot of issues with alot of skar's amps especially their 4 channels. They need to have good voltage all the time, it's not like a kicker and Rockford where you can run it 1 ohm with a stock electrical system. Their 4 channels get so hot you can cook an egg on them, and I recently bought their components and the voice coil rubbed on the pole piece of two of their drivers. I like skar personally for what they seriously lack in build quality
If your running hot, try turning the gain down a tiny bit. Won't notice any difference in output and I've seen amps go from hot to cool by just the slightest adjustment. All in all, YOU are the common denominator in the situation. Personally, on cheaper gear I would rather run it at 80% than full tilt, because they obviously saved some money somewhere. That said for the money they are pretty damn decent and of it gets more people into it, so be it
@@derekgardin1512 I like skar alot but it isn't any argument that they have their issues. I'm not joking when I said I bought brand new broken components but skar has great customer service and sent replacements rather quickly. There amps are genuinely the best of a bad situation. I traded 3 of my brand new skar amps for a used Rockford t1500.1bdcp and I couldn't be happier, I haven't had one issue so far.
@@derekgardin1512 couple years ago I had a RP2000.1D skar amp & that thing stayed hot just like the original commenter said his skar 4 channels did... My amp gain was set dead on and I was never clipping. Good voltage, Northstar agm batts, 350 amp h/o alt yet that skar amp would overheat & go into protect within 20 mins tops, sometimes even faster. Though skar's customer service was legit & they sent me free return shipping labels & refunded my full purchase price in less than a week. I just tell everyone if they are going to get a monoblock skar amp then they need to get the Skv2 series. That's the only mono skar I'd ever consider buying and that's ONLY if I caught it during a killer sale and got it new for a good price. Personally I prefer Brazilian full bridge over the half bridge RP Skar, that's just me, everyone has their own opinions from their personal experience. My experience with Skar RP was bad.
He gets complaints from people wanting " true" voltage that didn't upgrade their electrical. Then he gets complaints from people that did upgrade their electrical. Honestly, nobody should be running stock electrical when building a setup.
Back in 97 or so, I saved my minimum wages forever to buy one of the first commonly available class D amps- an MTX 400 wattish something or other. About 2 months later, water got into it and it was half submerged. 😔 RIP At the time, I was quite impressed of the real output for such a small amp that didn’t run so hot. You kids have it great today!
I have a 1500.1d on a EVL 12. Love it. Slams. Best bang for the buck period. Don't expect them to hit like say a JL W7 but they do bump. Highly reccomend if on a budget.
Great video! I run a full Skar setup in my Blazer. 12" sub in Skar box, 1200w mono, 1000w 4ch, 6x 6.5" component spkrs, and 7band eq on a Kenwood deck. I sounds great. And for the price...unbeatable.
I've said before I don't have any of their amplifiers. Their speakers are great. Especially when considering how much they cost. I'm beating on some EVL-12 D4's(2). Sounds good to me. Bought a 3 8's in a box but can't use them. Also Bought some shallow mount 12's for my truck. No issues.
I grabbed one off eBay awhile back it was refurbished with new parts haven’t had any issues threw it in my pick up .Thank you for this information.Maryland showing ❤️
I can tell you from personal experience the dyno testing and quality and the price for their RP 800.1d is great plus pushes my subs like crazy. Especially their website is always doing 20% off on holidays and special occasions. But the the kicker is the customer service is incredible. I blew my 12" sdr with that amp, I emailed C.S. and asked if they could sell me a recone (because it states in warranty that cook coils are not covered. ) Well they emailed me back asking for pictures and I sent some. Shocked they sent me a picture for field destruction and ask for picture proof after that I got conformation a replacement sub was sent. Honesty and politeness works.
I got an all Skar setup and it hits hard and I didn't break the bank... I'm not into it for sound competitions so the quality is good and it bumps good.... Sundown is a great speaker and bump really good but it's pricey and to made more for people really into systems and sound and money's not really a problem....I'll tell anyone looking for a good affordable system Skar is a great choice
Keep the Fluke display in frame. Great stuff. The heat sink seems to distribute the heat very evenly. No longer have to choose between cheap and dependable.
I have always been kicker to the heart. To be honest, skar performs well. Picked up two eights from them to replace my two CVR 12s that blow up in my truck. And I was impressed. Great value for the price. I would not say it all It's competition worthy but for a daily driver it's great.
Not only for high school kids, I'm 52 and running a SKV2-3500 on 2 ZVX-18s. It's under powering those subs but it still really gets down. Yes, way more affordable than Sundown but still easily gets the job done. I'll be upgrading the amp to an 8k soon.
I’m about to buy this amp with 2 10” SDR Skar subs preloaded in the box. Looks like it’s all good. But I’m not a teenager. 46 years old here. I waited 30 years to install bass in my truck. But I always wanted a badass system. Just never had the money and when I did have the money I bought guns instead. Still a good investment.
Skar Audio is awesome. Not everyone has the mad money to spend to bump the bass but wow Skar Audio checks all the boxes to hits hard all day long. I have installed 37 different Skar Audio amps for teens & older adults wired the right way in the last few years and wow everyone love the BOOM 🤯💥 I used to own a car audio shop way back in the day (THE DROP SHOP) from 86 to 98 then sold it. But when people hear our 93 Nissan D21 X cab with 2 15 subs. Or my 08 f150 2wd with 1 12 that hits super hard and love the BOOM but I have a lot of money in both system. But to get the kids hooked I have a demo car 01 Hyundai accent 2 door hatchback with lower end stuff. It basses very very hard let me say it's like a bear to honey or flies to poop. Lol everyone wants to check it out and people get hooked. It helps me out as I get the install, build boxes or fix issues from some self installs.
Advertisement, performance and affordability all play into it imo. While probably not the most high quality equipment they’re definitely a big step up from the common super cheap amps out there.
Yeah and WAY better than the cheap options we had back in the 90’s
Lightning Audio anyone?? Had a sub and amp combo from them and the amp died in a month. The LA subs lasted well and sounded pretty good though but were definitely cheap.
@@wal yup, much better than old school budget!

Back in late 90s early 00s it was like a 1$ watt amps were ridiculously priced a good one was well over a stack. Car audio is very affordable today 👌
For crap though🤷♂️
You're cool because you said "stack".
I remember those days. My over 20yr old Orion just capped out and I'm going to try skar.
@@ltb2339 right , and smaller also , my nephew got new amp for 140 biden $ that is close in power to my 800 bush $ amps.
The old PPI days

Crossfire BMF, Lightning Audio Storm, MTX Thunder. Cheap secondary market in the late-90’s kept me bangin.
Taramps the best

How do you wire it to a 2ohm
I have had an RP1200.1 since 2016. It's been in some seriously abusive situations and keeps working flawlessly. It was under direct sunlight in my hatchback for so long the anodized black turned gold.
Just recently ordered it from Amazon couldn't find a amp test by this man. Wake up to find one done today really appreciate all the work done !!!
Few months ago I got my younger brother the skar pro audio mids 6.5 for his Denali I think they where on special each one was 20 bucks lol
I picked up the mini 500w skar amp with a kicker comp r 10 in a skar vented box. They work well together almost a year now and still going strong.
Should’ve bought a skar sub
I've had an rp-1200.1D and a single DDX-12 D2 wired to 1 ohm for several years. No problems, super cheap. Does everything I needed it to.
Does it peak at 1600 . And at 1 ohm 1200rms accurate? Pushin a ddx10 my old amp went out want to push at least 1200 watts rms @ 1 ohm
And if it lets out the magic smoke, it's not a $1000 hit to wallet! It's a shame the d4s... Dc audio sub gave up the ghost.
Exactly! I went from a r500xd punch to this rp 1200 and the punch amp is more vicious
I have two 15's in my son's Tahoe with the 1200 at 1 ohm. Hell they are making the doors shake.

What subs you got that got up to 145 db
SVRs sound REALLY nice. i have a d2 12 too its my favorite but doesnt handle as much as my EVLs.
Same here. I'm 48yrs old and I have videos of my SKAR subs - plus installation videos for the 8" sub I put in the back of the Jeep. These speakers HIT and have little to no distortion for my setup.
Very cool to see other guys my age doing the car audio thing too!! 🙏
I'm about to Install the system in my latest vehicle, a first Gen Grand Cherokee, just gotta run the wire, install the 2nd battery in the back, and build or buy the box that will let my favorite Sub (a 10yr old Audiopulse Axis quad 1 ohm voice coil, 55'ish lb, 2500 RMS Watt sub) perform at it's absolute Best it can!!

Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@D3M3NT3Dstrang3r interesting. I learned something new today 😆. Does this happen with both the RP, and SKV Amos, or just one?

@@williamoliveros76 get a couple sundown zv6’s on a crescendo 8k and find a custom box that works best for the subs, probably tuned 29-30hz. that will be a solid set up
@@bodebode903 oh hell yea thanks brother!
Awesome 👏
As long as you have the electrical and your going for spl. Really hard to beat the amount of power of their amps for the price. They have a single 18 sub and box that would go great with that amp. Skarr is a great basshead starter brand for anybody.
Been running an RP-150 4-channel for around 4-5 years now and no issue whatsoever. Install was done professionally and I made sure to run the right speakers to not cause any early-amp-death. Sub amp is Sound Digital and that as well has been doing great
skar is the new BOSS for millennials indeed
@@gorgonismztruth1551 tbh might be better then Boss imo
Yeah, I’m pretty happy with my RP 350.1 &. RP 75.4 AB. The price was more than fair, and my neighbors are thoroughly annoyed.
Well done video. I enjoyed using the skv2 100.4 for a couple yrs. An inexpensive class ab that does rated and sounded pretty good. The way more expensive amp that replaced it doesn't sound a whole lot better.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've had this amp for over 2 years it's never failed me. Use it daily. Great video as always.
I believe audiopipe was earlier
You can buy a Skar loaded SDR/D2 8" loaded enclosure, amp, and wiring for $240... for what you get it's hard to beat.
Nvx audio is pretty cheap and good also Soundqubed
I though cadence audio, DBdrive, polk audio, CT sound, audiopipe were the company who set that trend.
NVX audio can touch it all day 😮😮😂😂
I think your question was answered---reliable product, reliable supply chain.
Anyway, there are some really good budget stuff from numerous brands, Orion (xtr series specifically), a bunch of really good performing Korean made amps Big D has tested, and even subs like American Bass and other's..
Great feedback 👍
They’re popular because they’re cheap, have decent performance, sound pretty good, and overall just do what they’re supposed to do.
So a great Bang for your Buck !
and the logo is 🤘
Have this amp on a zvx 8 d2. Never has let me down yet! Great price, reliable, overall great equipment.
Steve is the Man. When I bought my DD-1 I asked him to sign the inside of the box and he did. I will cherish that box for many years to come. Keep up the great content.
That's better than JP at Down4sound who CHARGES MONEY to have him scribble on your stuff.
Rust protection
55% efficiency. Ouch! Just remember that means it's wasting 45% of that power which is over 500 watts. During LONG bass pedal jams close to clipping that puppy is gonna get hot AF! Definitely will shut down under such conditions. And that's not factoring in being inside a car on a hot day...
I have an RP.75 and can definitely notice how much louder it can get the music on a cool night opposed to a hot muggy one here in Charlotte NC.
My first major system was the rp2000.1 and 2 15” evl $700!! Still the most impressive setup I’ve had for the money
I wish we had a budget friendly performer option like this back in the early 90's.
And that's why they are so popular. 2 600 rms subs in a damn good prefab with amp and wiring for $492. It's crazy I've tested most the other loaded packages and this one kills it for the price.
Right? A amp to put that kind of power out in the 90s was expensive. Now its a little over $100 bucks
@@Nodozzz I remember the stereo shops would say “$1 a watt” all the time!
Everything was made in USA then. Not in labor camps in other countries.
Started out with Rockville wasn’t impressed and switched to Skar I’ll never change again love the brand.
I have two 12" EVL-12 D2 subs in my Suburban and the sound always turns heads when I'm on the road. Was surprised how great they sound for the price since I'd never heard about Skar's products before.
I just blew my 2 12 Evl-12 D2 they lasted me a year and a half running them at 0.8 Ohms but man they slap
Yeah so true
I would never run American spl brand front stage.
@DCAudioFTW American bass is the shit. Have been running my XFLs at 50% over rated and they've been taking it for 3 years now with 0 issue
Thank you for being old reliable we need someone like you , need someone like you to help us out show us what the real is 🤙😊

@@wal No problem been subscribed for a year and a 1/2
I had an RP-2000.1D running 3 12’s at 1.33 ohm.
Great feedback 👌
Best Budget Build for Beginners.
2 Skar DDX Subs $139-$169 x 2 (dual 4 ohm)
1 Taramps MD3k or HD3K $160-$220 (1 or 4 ohm version)
1 large ported box $50-$300 (Stay within specs, bigger is better)
1 0 gauge OFC wire kit $80-$100
1 0-4 gauge wire reducer $8-$20
1 extra car battery $150-$300
If your just starting to get into car audio please take this advice.
They hit for the budget stuff and it lasts. I bought one because my budget was tight and I have been very happily impressed.
I would use a head unit with a six channel output. Connect the subwoofer channels to this amp and have better control of the lower frequency signal.
Just got my skar rp-1200.1D today I'm new into bass and I'm a skar fan subs should be delivered today cannot wait to get this all hooked up slam on brothas
They are affordable and take a beating. Especially the subs
Considering the crescendo 140x4 was $300+...$340 shipped for a 300x4 is insane.
because there cheap!!!!
Eric McGinnis I'd take the JP amps over the Skar RP series amps any day! The RP series get hot 🔥
Imo Taramps is better bang for the buck compared to the Skar RP amps.
However, nowadays most all high power amps are bad a$$ especially compared to years ago
its a good amp. ive been running my daily for atleast 2 years now powering one 15. it has the power to burn up the coil
Makes sense...gotta keep prices down somehow. Not with sundown though.....
Meh... I have had no issues with any of them.
I've switched over entirely to Skar Audio and I'm very happy with everything I've owned from them
That’s awesome 👏
Could you run the voltage at 12vs a real reading I don't feel like half of us viewers are running a true 14vs more of a reality voltage of 12v
He gets complaints from people wanting " true" voltage that didn't upgrade their electrical. Then he gets complaints from people that did upgrade their electrical. Honestly, nobody should be running stock electrical when building a setup.
The charging voltage of a car is generally 14+ if you are lower than that, you probably need a larger alternator/extra reserve, etc.

No issues.

I also have a pair of ct sound strato 12" which are just nuts in a 1cu ft sealed enclosure.
Just ordered the RP 800 for my first sub (square 12 kicker) , how's it holding up for you?
I love skar the person that started skar use to work with sundown Audio but he got tired and left and started his own business (skar audio)
I got 2 evl 8s in small vented box in back of f150 and sounds amazing impressed . Ive been slamming for 25 yrs and they impressed me
Awesome 👏
I have always been kicker to the heart. To be honest, skar performs well. Picked up two eights from them to replace my two CVR 12s that blow up in my truck. And I was impressed. Great value for the price. I would not say it all It's competition worthy but for a daily driver it's great.
👌😬👍
Not only for high school kids, I'm 52 and running a SKV2-3500 on 2 ZVX-18s. It's under powering those subs but it still really gets down. Yes, way more affordable than Sundown but still easily gets the job done. I'll be upgrading the amp to an 8k soon.
😬👍
I’m about to buy this amp with 2 10” SDR Skar subs preloaded in the box. Looks like it’s all good. But I’m not a teenager. 46 years old here. I waited 30 years to install bass in my truck. But I always wanted a badass system. Just never had the money and when I did have the money I bought guns instead. Still a good investment.
Oh man it’s gonna be cool!!
IDK... some people prefer not to waste their money. Skar is a SOLID value.
I have never seen better testing in my life. Whoa…very good vid.👊🏻
I appreciate these test. Even the ones I wouldn’t even care about. I like to see the outcome
Skar Audio is awesome. Not everyone has the mad money to spend to bump the bass but wow Skar Audio checks all the boxes to hits hard all day long.
I have installed 37 different Skar Audio amps for teens & older adults wired the right way in the last few years and wow everyone love the BOOM 🤯💥
I used to own a car audio shop way back in the day (THE DROP SHOP) from 86 to 98 then sold it.
