Perfect timing because I am about to put on binding for a quilt I am completing for a 92-year-old friend who pieced the top. It’s all butterflies and took her three years to hand-sew it.
Oh! How kind of you, and exciting. I would love to see it. Also, Karen Brown of Just Get it Done Quilts (Canada) has just done an episode on binding: ruclips.net/video/jma6XJzPS18/видео.html
Everyone else that I've seen uses a 2 1/2" strip for binding but I also prefer a narrow binding, as you do. So I cut my binding a bit narrow and attached it, but then thought I had done it wrong. I wish I had seen this video before I ripped it out. But now I can go back and get it done. Except that I prefer a binding stitch rather than a whip stitch for the hand stitching. Thank you for this. Always a pleasure to see a new video from you.
I have hand sewn binding and machine sewn binding. As my hand sewing gets better, I seem to enjoy it. Sometimes it's hard to thread the needle, them my husband threads the needle for me. For kids:quilts, I like to machine sew the binding and add sequence or a decorative stitch to the top. Thank you so I much Irene! It's been a fun year! 💕🎶💜🌈🦄
I sew binding on completely by machine but will have to try your hand binding technique for the back. I prefer joining ends of binding by sewing a diagonal seam rather than straight seam. I'm never happy how it looks with a straight seam but that is definitely easier. Thanks for the video. See you next time.
The method I like to use to join binding at the end is really easy. You overlap the ends by the width of your original fabric strips (in the case of your video it would be 2 inches. Cut away any extra, then line the edges up for a miter as usual. It will give you a nice mitered join and no one will be able to tell where you joined your binding! I hope that made sense. Lol
Enjoying your RUclips channel and positive attitude! Thank you! I’m wondering, aside from subscribing here, is their a place I should/could subscribe to “your newsletter” ?
Thanks again, Irene! Just to clarify...I’m still working on the 3 sections to quilt. How do you get the Rainbow Sprinkles backing pattern to match up with the front of the quilt 3 times yet?
If you go to the fat quarter shop tutorials on RUclips, Kimberley has a tutorial on a Xmas stocking 2019, she has a great way of connecting your binding, at least it works for me
I would like to mention that your videos are very detailed and the easiest to follow along! Thank you!
Ich mache immer die Methode vom westfahlenstoffe-weihnachtsquilt. Die super erklärt und liefert schöne Ergebnisse 😃
Love your videos. Enjoy your maternity leave.

Wie schön, ich habe wieder etwas dazugelernt!
Irene thank you! I put a binding on my first quilt and I think I over stitched the binding. At least I know for sure it will stay!!

👍❤️😊
I’m not sure do you use a single or double thread when hand sewing back of the binding. Love all your videos. 😊
single! double would be more sturdy though...
What brand and weight thread do you use?

You gotta look into the Folded Corner Clipper from Creative Grids. Total life changer for binding strips. I promise you.
Olá bom dia, está muito frio, um dia bom de trabalho ...está a ficar maravilhoso, parabéns !
Is Santa Claus you have the quilt along with nf so how do I get the pattern
Irene, Don't forget to label your quilt 😊 ❤
You should watch Jenny Doan of Missouri star Quilt Co. as she has a brilliant binding technic.
