Wow! I've been quilting since 1976, bicentennial. I just sort of winged it, there were no classes there were no quilt shops! And the part I have always hated was binding. My first quilt I tried doing the binding my stitching in the ditch from the front and it was awful. Your method is terrific and I'm going to try it I have two quilts waiting to be bound and you may have just changed my attitude completely. Thank you!
I love this technique. Anything that makes binding faster is great by me, as long as it also makes it look great. Edit: used this method for a throw quilt and it turned out lovely
Thank you for giving a machine binding tutorial. I am going to add the glue step to the next machine binding I do. The glue will hold down the binding better than clips!
I love the idea of using glue to tack down the back… I just finished a lap quilt for my niece, and I wish I’d seen this beforehand - I have areas that are 1/8” and areas that are 1/16”, so it’s rather uneven looking on the back. 🤷🏻♀️ Meh. Live and learn! And glad I know this for the future!
Thanks for sharing this method! I love the glue method and I'll definitely be getting some this week to try this out on the next project. You craftsmanship is beautiful and I love the block.
Very nicely done. Using 2.5 width for binding makes a really nice binding and catches well when using stitch in the ditch on both sides. Thanks for the tutorial.
Awesome Vanessa! I've been doing this method for years but I will try using the glue addition. Looks like it makes it so much easier. Thank you so much.
OH my goodness. I use Elmers glue when I am piecing and lining up my points but I never used it to help me with my binding and I want to kick myself for not thinking of that!!! Thank you!
I love the Elmers glue idea! I had no idea about this and always excited to learn new tricks. I was using pins and binding clips which were always sticking me or super bulky. This will make baby and lap quilt making SO much easier!
I love your method with the glue on the binding and never thought of that one thing that I do is I take an iron The Binding over from the front first so that there is a good crease that encourages The Binding to roll over to the back more easily.
Stitching in the ditch is bit problematic still, ugh! The glue is a great idea…did you a special style of presser foot? This really is my dream style of binding but now I am doing where you start on the backside then sew on top…I still quilting just under one year! Love your new Love Note pattern of fabric!
Thank you for the video tutorial, Vanessa! It’s much less intimidating for me to try a new method when I can SEE it done. I’m so impressed with the results of your method and plan to give it a try!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You quilt and wall hanging are really beautiful 😍. I will be using this method on my next binding. Who would have thought … Elmer’s glue … go figure…I thought the glue had to be fancier😂
Great video - exactly how I do my bindings except I use 1/4 inch steam a seam instead of glue…but will try the glue for sure! Sometimes use a decorative stitch right in the binding!
This is my preferred method of binding as well. Though it never occurred to me to iron the binding after folding it over. I like the idea of using glue as well. I’m going to make a mini with one of the blocks in Christmas Morning!
This is my preferred method as well. I use 2.25” binding strips and 1/4” seam. (I’ve never found the need for the glue step - I do press the seam open after attaching the binding to the front. I can usually wrap the binding back and sew with no clips).
Thank you for the tutorial. This will be my 2022 “new method to try” list, you made it look so easy. But will definitely try it first on your Lovey Dovey block size. By the way that a very cute quilt pattern . Merry Christmas
Great tutorial and pictures! I love the glue tip too! Thank you for sharing and I think I can do this now and conquer my fear of binding! Happy New Year!
Excellent presentation, but would have been more helpful to have the camera angle directed at the machine needle for precision. Never the less, I appreciate the demo and love this pattern and Lelia’s teaching! TY FQS♥️
Hi Vanessa - amazing for beginners - thanks you!! Please can you tell me did you use the walking foot for the final stitch in the ditch part? which foot should I use? thanks x
Thank you for this great set of instructions! I have to ask what fabric collection is this quilt done in? I absolutely love it!! And is it available at the Fat Quarter Shop?

I bind the same way, but I don’t use glue, I use wonder clips. I thought she might no like/use clips, but then she used them for the label, so now I wonder why glue, how using it is better than using clips. I will try with the glue next time. Did anyone see if the iron was using steam?
Maybe the glue makes it easier to keep the binding straight? The glue method might make it easier when doing larger quilts. Would ease up some of the weight from all those wonder clips. Just my thoughts! ☺️
Hello Ceci! The glue application is faster than taking on and off Wonder Clips. She is often making multiple quilts in time crunches for shows, so anywhere she can save even seconds helps!
Helpful tutorial; however, using only the overhead camera during the sewing wasn't the best choice. It would have been more helpful to actually see the process from a needle's view.
THANK you for the close-up of the front stitching!
Oh my…where has this video been my whole life!!! I can’t wait to try this!
Glue is my new Goddess!! 😄
Thanks for that incredible glue tip!

Excellent binding tutorial Vanessa!
Thanks for the video. Have been leary to try this but hand sewing is tedious. Will definitely give it a try on a smaller project.
I love this technique. Anything that makes binding faster is great by me, as long as it also makes it look great. Edit: used this method for a throw quilt and it turned out lovely
I have never heard of using Elmer’s glue! What an amazing tip! Thank you!
Love this info for binding thanks so much
The glue tip is genius! I usually use my number 10 foot on my Bernina (edgestitch foot).
I was watching your binding video and thought " hey! that looks like my Bernina from the top"! I have an old Activa 135.
I always bind my quilts by hand. This was a great way to bind a quilt. It looked great on the quilt I made for my grandson. Thank you.
I love this method of binding , I've always do by hand. I would never of thought of using Elmer's glue
Super tutorial! Elmers glue is a new twist and I plan to try this next time! Thanks for this help!

School Glue!!! Brilliant.
GOING TO SAVE THIS VIDEO SO I CAN MAKE MITERED CORNERS. GREAT TUTORIAL
That's how I attache binding, but the Elmers glue is new to me! So thanks for that tip.
This is how I do my binding so easy to use glue 👍👏🥰🎄🎄🇦🇺
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
Merry Christmas 🎄 hope you are enjoying the holidays over there??
Very nicely done. Using 2.5 width for binding makes a really nice binding and catches well when using stitch in the ditch on both sides. Thanks for the tutorial.
The glue tip is genius. You're a great teacher. My all-time favorite fabric is Christmas Morning and I can't stop making things out of it.
Awesome Vanessa! I've been doing this method for years but I will try using the glue addition. Looks like it makes it so much easier. Thank you so much.
Very good tutorial thanks Vanessa
Just tried this on my Home Is quilt. Made sewing the binding on so easy.
I do everything the same except the glue. Great idea. Going to try it soon
Well Vanessa I would have never thought to use school glue ! I must say I'm amazed at how well that works. I must try it.
Thank you ❣
I love this method, will be trying it shortly, thanks for the tutorial !!
I will for sure try this I struggle with binding. You are a great teacher thanks for this video.
Thanks Vanessa!!! Another great tutorial!! Going to try your method for sure!!
Thank you for this tutorial! I really need to learn how to do this. M,Abe a New Years resolution!
You’ve made it look flawlessly simple! I’ll let you know how it goes for me🤞🤣😜!
OH my goodness. I use Elmers glue when I am piecing and lining up my points but I never used it to help me with my binding and I want to kick myself for not thinking of that!!! Thank you!
I cannot wait to try this binding method - thank you!
P
I usually sew onto the back first then flip over the front, going to have to try this method on a small project to make sure I can do it right 🤣
great technique thank you
I love the Elmers glue idea! I had no idea about this and always excited to learn new tricks. I was using pins and binding clips which were always sticking me or super bulky. This will make baby and lap quilt making SO much easier!

Yes starting from the back is a better method
I used the same foot as piecing but you could definitely use a walking foot if that makes it easier.
Thank you for the video tutorial, Vanessa! It’s much less intimidating for me to try a new method when I can SEE it done. I’m so impressed with the results of your method and plan to give it a try!
Beautiful.
I will definitely be trying this binding method . Thank you for this tutorial 😊
Thanks for this tutorial. I will use these tips!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You quilt and wall hanging are really beautiful 😍. I will be using this method on my next binding. Who would have thought … Elmer’s glue … go figure…I thought the glue had to be fancier😂
BEAUTIFUL QUILT
Fabulous. Love the glue idea. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Excellent video. I’ve saved it so I can use it when I’m binding. Great tips!
I am definitely saving this video for the future!
This is just the video I needed! I’m new to binding, and I so appreciate your clear explanations. Thank you.
Great video - exactly how I do my bindings except I use 1/4 inch steam a seam instead of glue…but will try the glue for sure! Sometimes use a decorative stitch right in the binding!
Enjoyed the tutorial and I always learn something. Such a beautiful quilt!
Thanks Vanessa! Great video. I needed better instruction for finishing and using the bias method for the end tails.
So helpful thank you!
This is my preferred method of binding as well. Though it never occurred to me to iron the binding after folding it over. I like the idea of using glue as well. I’m going to make a mini with one of the blocks in Christmas Morning!
I have never seen the school glue method. Going to try that on a few projects

Great Tutorial! This is to clear and explained perfectly! Thanks
Thank you for the tutorial. This will be my 2022 “new method to try” list, you made it look so easy. But will definitely try it first on your Lovey Dovey block size. By the way that a very cute quilt pattern . Merry Christmas
You’ve done an excellent job explaining your binding process! I’ve never ironed my binding although I do use binding clips. Super method!!
Great tutorial and pictures! I love the glue tip too! Thank you for sharing and I think I can do this now and conquer my fear of binding! Happy New Year!
I do my binding like that except I don't use glue. I usually sew to the back and flip to the front. I'm going to try this way.
Me, too. Trying to figure out what the difference would be.
Do you use a walking foot when sewing the binding?
Excellent presentation, but would have been more helpful to have the camera angle directed at the machine needle for precision. Never the less, I appreciate the demo and love this pattern and Lelia’s teaching! TY FQS♥️
Loved this mini series. Wondering is there a downloadable for just the wall hanging / mini size? Merry Christmas everyone @ FQS
Hi Vanessa - amazing for beginners - thanks you!! Please can you tell me did you use the walking foot for the final stitch in the ditch part? which foot should I use? thanks x
Hi Sian! I just used my regular (1/4”) quilter’s foot that I use for piecing.
Just started watch your channel. Love the glue trick. Wondering if you use it for appliqué ?
Very 👍
Thank you for this great set of instructions! I have to ask what fabric collection is this quilt done in? I absolutely love it!! And is it available at the Fat Quarter Shop?
Hello Janice! Vanessa is using her collection Love Note, which we have available here: bit.ly/321OX3b
Better camera angle would have been helpful to the viewer. Cute little mat. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Love ❤️ this Quilt!!! May I ask what the name of pattern? Material name & maker? Great tutorial!

Which machine foot should I use?
I used the same foot I used for piecing. But you could use a walking foot if you’re worried about bulk.
@@vanessagoertzen4579 Thanks.
Good information. can I suggest your video have better closeups.
Do you stop a 1/4 inch from the corner or sew all the way to the end of the corner?
I stop 1/4” away from the bottom edge each time (I match whatever seam allowance I’m using).
Do you have to wash the glue out? I don’t routinely wash my quilts after I finish them.
Same here. (I love the crispness of unwashed quilts!) You def don’t have to!
I bind the same way, but I don’t use glue, I use wonder clips. I thought she might no like/use clips, but then she used them for the label, so now I wonder why glue, how using it is better than using clips. I will try with the glue next time. Did anyone see if the iron was using steam?

@@FatQuarterShopTX I see, time saving. That’s always a good thing. Thank you.
This looked liked about the best method I have ever seen for machine binding, wish I could of seen more of it, terrible camera angle.
I would love to know where to buy this pattern !!!
Hello Elaine! You can purchase the Lovey Dovey Quilt Pattern here: bit.ly/31VLRNZ
What stitch length are you using?
Hello Nancy! Vanessa used a 2.0 stitch length
Where do you get your quilt labels?
Excellent video❣️ Thank You...Can’t Wait to try this!!!
Hello Vicki! Kimberly buys her quilt labels here: bit.ly/3Ehp8cN
Walking foot or open toe foot?
Hi Julie, I just used my regular quilter’s (1/4”) foot that I use for piecing. You could definitely use a walking foot if you’d like.
Helpful tutorial; however, using only the overhead camera during the sewing wasn't the best choice. It would have been more helpful to actually see the process from a needle's view.
