Happy Friday...what a week. There are lot of ways to make binding. But before I talk about them, we need to know the basics. If you haven't made yourself a 3-in-1 tool yet, you'll save yourself a lot of headache if you do. Enjoy.
Lol I get so stressed and my neck disappears, I've been clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth...and I laugh and grab a tea, take a break and a breath, and remind myself that it's my first quilt for one of our kiddos! They love it already and it'll be warm usable and washable lol !
Thank you for another wonderful video! You are an inspiration!!
I've used mine for a couple quilts and smaller projects. I LOVE it! Thanks so much.
What is a quilter's knot? How do I sew the binding down on the back? Do I just sew along the edge (parallel to the edge) or should I sew X's, or perpendicular? What keeps the binding down the best?
Just made mine. Looking forward to using it. Your video made so much sense. I especially like the reason for not pressing your binding in half. I have done that and wondered why I struggled so. I have been quilting for 26years. Love your tips and your channel. Thanks Karen
Circumference is for a circle..... perimeter is for squares, rectangles, etc. (retired math teacher here🤪
Thank you! That’s actually really good to know
You're telling me that for a whole 3 quilts I could've just TUCKED THE BINDING?! Thank you for showing this, as well as why a walking foot is so important! I can't wait to make my next quilt!
Hands down, BEST binding video on the internet, or in the entire world for that matter! And this is why I stick with you Karen, to just get it done, and done right!!! Thank you for all you do!
🤗🤗🤗
I wanted you to know that this is the ONLY video I could wrap my brain around. I have tried and tried to learn this method, but I don't see things the way others do. It always looks backwards to me. So, tonight, I stopped and worked frame-by-frame and it WORKED. OMG I am beyond relieved. I'm working on a special gift and just had to have it perfect. THANK YOU from the bottom of my still learning heart.
Congratulations 👏👏👏
Thank you for this video! I love the first option where you tucked the tail in to the starting piece. I have been struggling with the fiddly way and get a knot in my stomach every time I have to cut the binding lol. I am a new pandemic quilter and have learned everything from RUclips and generous teachers like you. You have made it possible for me to turn isolation into beauty and creativity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
AMEN..🇨🇦
This is the best binding video I have seen. I will be making a 3 in one tool right away. Brilliant.
What a great point about not pressing the strip in half!
❤️the quilt will still be warm and cuddly, life is imperfect. great timing, i have two quilts to bind today
Ok....First let me just say....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am so glad you did this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Karen THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok...now I have my tea and I am going to watch....i am so excited!!!!!!! Binding is MY nemesis!!!!!!
So glad 🤗
You have an engineer’s mind!!!! You have such a clear mindset in figuring out an improved method of quilting techniques! I love your method of binding for the first example. Tucking in the tail is just BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for sharing your expertise.
YES! I think that's what I like. The engineering! What works and how!
Thank you Karen, this is the clearest video yet on binding. I find the fear of binding is leaving me!!!
You can do it!
You have inspired me to start quilting. I have learned so much from you! Now I need to claim a space and get started....
do it Diane ! It's really alot of Fun.. and Karen has lots of Tutorials ! Good Luck !!
6:44 the join - - -Learning how to join the binding correctly was great ... always had problems with this part in the past... the binding that I put on my quilt tonight was the best one I ever did before... very pleased ... but I do need more practice.
i'm so close to getting the courage to try my 1st quilt because of your channel
You’re almost there....you can do it
That was just an excellent tutorial. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sewn the joining seam wrong on the binding.
Best demonstration about joining final ends of binding. Especially how to put the right sides together
Thank you for saying do not press your binding in half . I have not been pressing mine for years and teaching this for years too...... it definitely gives you less hassles. thank you for another great video.
Thank you
I just gave this a super enthusiastic 'like'. The stress of bindings and corners has melted away. THANK YOU!
So glad it helps
Thanks for the video. I have had that tool for years and never knew how to use it. Thanks so much.
Glad to help
Blown away once again! Don't press in half...what?!! Life changing! 😊
Thank you Karen! ❤
For getting beautifully sharp corners, when the needle is 1/4" shy of a corner, i stop with the needle down, then turn and stitch off the quilt at a 45 degree angle towards the corner. Works great!
I do that too! Also, I don't cut my thread there. I leave it attached and trim off later if needed.
That is a GREAT idea! Thanks!
Hello Karen. Just to let you know that I am already watching you from my home sweet home. New hip on monday afternoon and back home on wednesday morning. The operation went well now it's healing and hand quilting time. Thanks for your kind thoughts and Love from France !
Glad all went well...especially now
Just finished my first quilt after watching nearly all your videos. Thank you for your inspirational videos and these very clear practical video too.
Mike drop! I have got to try the first method for joining the ends of my binding. The other day I literally sewed & ripped out the join a half dozen times. And I never knew you could start sewing at the edge when beginning again at the corner. Old dog here is gonna try some new tricks! Thank you, Karen!!!
Hello Karen from Sydney, Australia. It’s been a beautiful day here and it’s 2pm. Just finished watching another great video. I prefer your second method of joining at the end.
Keep well Karen and keep your videos coming💐
I prefer the second but I don’t always have the time
I made myself binding tools for 2-1/2" and 3" binding. OMG I can't believe how awesome that simple tool is!👏👏👏❤
You taught this Quilting Grandma some things today!
Glad to hear
Thankyou for a great video on my least favourite part of quilting! Definitely be making that tool.
I have been quilting for a number of years and have struggled with the binding. Your video is awesome and I get it now. Thank you so much. You rock!
Loved your tip about not ironing binding.
First and foremost, thank you!! Since I started using your binding method, my bindings are now more attractive and my binding corners are now sharp and precise. Not pressing the binding strip is the way to go! That’s how I ha s been finishing my quilts since I saw your video. Thanks ever so much. Truly appreciated.
Excellent
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Oh I noi two years have past - and what two years they've been -but i've just found you and I can't find the instructions for the 3 in 1 tool anywhere HEEEEEl please
Finally! A great explanation- especially in how to lay the fabric out, so it does not twist.
Thank you for being clear! Very well done. And where has this quilters' knot been my entire sewing life!?!?!?!
Sooooooo good!!!! Thks a lot!!!! Love love love learning from you! Have a wonderful weekend! Martina
It’s not that I couldn’t bind...it’s that it was my best guess on how to do it. It was inconsistent; sometimes great and sometimes a disaster. A cozy disaster. Thanks for sharing your method Karen!
Binding at its easiest to understand. Holy moly at last an easier way at last. Thank you!
When my quilt group started up 20 years ago...we would cut the binding into 4 .... do the top, do the bottom..square up and cut off extra...then do the other 2 sides....crazy! Now we all do the continuous mitre, but we sew the binding on the back first....turn over,...and machine stitch it down from the FRONT...
The 4 piece binding is close to what I've been doing, and my corners are NEVER right. And I'd have drag lines and all sorts of other annoying BS!!
Thank you Karen. Great video.
Brilliant video as always Karen, I,ve always ironed mine in half, Definetely trying this method next time
Love this! The walking foot works like a charm! Will be making a 3-in-1 from no-melt template plastic. Thank you so much!✨
I love your 3-in-1 tool idea because I've struggled getting my quilt binding corners to look perfect. Your hints are simple and straightforward-thank you
It’s a valuable tool. I’ve used mine everyday this week
Karen, you are simply wonderful! I'm just finishing my first quilt and every time I doubt myself, I watch one of your videos and feel encouraged again. Thank you!
It is a marathon...just a few more steps
Perfect timing as I'm almost to that part on my first quilt!
Thank you! You made me a quilter with your videos
You are such an excellent teacher. Blessings.
How appropriate that this video was uploaded today. I'm trying to bind 2 quilts. Thank you so much 💓.
This is by far one of the BEST videos on binding. It works! And it's simple. THANK YOU.
Reminded me to finish binding my latest quilt. Just 2.5 sides of hand stitching left. Unlike many, I actually enjoy this part. I like your tool idea! Thanks 😉
👍
Thanks Karen. You're a lifesaver. That trick for joining the ends of the binding together worked a treat!
I haven’t made a quilt in years, but I did love love love hand finishing the binding. You are motivating me to do a scrappy quilt.
I just have to say that I am SO thrilled to have found your videos. I am extremely grateful for them- you are an excellent teacher and as a beginner, I have learned so many new tips & techniques. I get turned off by so many other tutorial videos because they also include too much irrelevant babbling! Your videos are straight to the point & have precise, clear instructions. Keep them coming!!
I agree! Karen Brown doesn’t waste our time on things that don’t matter. I truly appreciate that succinctness!
Karen, your videos have given me the confidence to pick up quilting again and finish some projects that I thought were too hard. Thank you!
I just finished binding my first quilt and every problem you said I had. I do not have all the fancy tools so I'm glad you showed me alternative ways. One of them I figured out on my own so it's comforting to see I wasn't wrong. Those pesky corners!!! 🤦
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, I really learned a lot!
Absolutely the best video for binding. I can’t tell you how many projects I have done, but not finished because of the binding! Thank you so much 😊👍🏻
Some great tips. Thank you! I couldn't quite follow the knot at the end. If you ever put it in another video, perhaps showing it more slowly and closer to the camera, it would be easier to follow. I'm going today to get plastic for making a 3-in-1 tool. I'm soon to be binding my first ever bed quilt. Again, thank you. You are appreciated!
Thank you! Perfect timing I'm going to be starting the binding on my first quilt this weekend! Lol I'll be watching your video multiple times 🤣...but with you teaching I'll just get it done!
You chose a great teacher! You can learn everything you need to know from KB! happy quilting!💕
I wish I could put another 'Like' on this video for every time I use it to bind another quilt! Thank you again, my motto is 'Make a Start'. Getting even a little bit done gives me some forward momentum and encouragement when I am stuck. Thanks to you for this 'frame of mind'.
Thank you so much for all your tutorials - they are just so helpful and easy to follow. A great resource for starting on something rather intimidating ;)
Love how easy you make the binding look. This has always been difficult thing for me to do. Thank you, I believe I can do this on my new baby blanket I’m quilting.
Always looking for tips. Love the quilter's knot. And you know I'm going to make a 3 in 1 for sure. Thanks so much. Karen, you make the most delightful and helpful videos.
Karen, as always, you are a genius! Thank you for this video and the 3 in 1 tool. Making mine tonight!
Thank you, Karen. I have made quilts for years, and I still get confused on which way to sew the ends of the binding. Lol Your “three in one binding tool” is such a great idea. I will make one this weekend. Thank you for everything you do.
Thank you for showing how to finish putting on the binding with the sewn 45 degree joining. I have tried on 2 different quilts and just ended up doing a straight seam. This is the first video that I have found that shows EXACTLY how to flip the strips so that it comes out not twisted.
I have been trying to absorb everything I need to in order to try my first quilt. This video is priceless! Thank you AGAIN!
I learned so so much from this binding tutorial. Keep sending more sewing tutorials! Love them
Thank you, thank you! I have seen some of these tips here and there, but to have it all together makes it all seem clearer.
Here I am...late to the party! Thank you so much. These tips have really helped me...better corners and an easier binding application.
Thanks Karen, very helpful. Can’t wait to see sewing machine binding!
I love your videos. Your 2 methods for sewing the binding together are brilliant. Thank you
Some really great hints here! Thank you for sharing, much appreciated!
Great video. Great tips especially the quilter’s knot as I have been struggling with giant spider knots. Also, I will be making your 3-in-1 tool! I always learn so much from you ❤️
Thanks for a simplified version of making bindings.
i’m so excited for you! i’m a newbie and started quilting due to covid. I’m a retired elementary school teacher, and i only sub now, (well, not anymore due to covid). i needed a new hobby to keep me from having a anxiety attacks and quilting has turned to my spiritual yoga!
i have a little domestic Janome i got for mother’s day and i’m learning to free arm quilt so as to put my quilts together. You have taught me so much and i always look forward to your videos. I’m so glad you are still doing your video and going strong! i would love to learn from you 1:1, but due to covid and the fact i live in California makes it a bit challenging! ❤️❤️ can’t wait to see more of your long arm!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your instructions are so easy to follow. My corners are so easy now! I'll be referring back to this video along my quilt journey.
I could do a paragraph of "thank you!" and it wouldn't be enough. I've been struggling with a binding, even though I've made many. Sometimes a youtuber will tell you the "right" way to do something and you want to do it right, but it just isn't right for you. (And this quilt has had something wrong at every step!). You have fixed that. Don't iron it in half. Ok...no more doing that! And sometimes bindings are narrower. Thank you. So I'm not wrong in wanting a narrow binding. I will find my ruler to fold my corners a little more pointed. I got dinged on my corners at the last quilt show I entered. They were right and I should have seen it. So thank you and have a great weekend.
Thank you for this video! No one ever explained how important that 1/4 inch in the corners is when you are attaching the binding. Made a world of difference😍
Glad it helped
I finally perfected the fussy method of joining the binding, using your video! Thank you!!!
👍
Finished a small wallhanging. My fist time binding. Oh, yeah, i will be making this tool!
It's so useful.
Thanks. I have been quilting since the 1970's and you keep teaching me new details to conquer problems.
Great video, learnt a lot, always hated binding.
I'm so excited at how well my binding went on without ironing it in half..wow really went well...tool works well and my first scrap quilt looks great!!!
Thanks Karen! You were able to teach me how to do that final diagonal seam when doing binding. 38 year of stumbling on this step has come to an end. ❤🎉
Easiest binding video out there. Thank you for simplifying.
That was so clear to understand! I have a binding tool that came free with a magazine, but the instructions were awful. Now I understand, I was nearly there! Thank you!
I love this video. This was SO helpful and I have saved it to refer to it as required.
Just seeing this. It's a great video. Thank you
Thanks! Exactly what I needed! Your videos are easy to follow and use!
I have just finished doing g my very first quilt binding. I have watched this video four times in the last 24 hours.
Thanks, Karen, for being so clear with instructions. Love your simplicity.
Thank you! I’ll make a 3in1 tool. The corners often give me a fit. I enjoy the hand-sewing, especially on a cool evening.
You are a Godsend! So clear and concise! I'm a guy who loves to quilt and all your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
I have to go back and make your 3 in 1 binding tool!
And they last forever
This was my aha! video. Thank you so much Karen for sharing your knowledge. 🇨🇦
I love the way you teach, I've just finished my first quilt and used this to do my binding. I'm going to binge watch all your videos now! Thanks! 😊
AMAZING! Thank you. This has helped me somuch more than anything else I have watched- and I've been quilting for years now.
I am so glad I found your video. Your instructions are so clear. Binding a quilt has always been such a nightmare for me.
Thank you for this video. I’ve not seen the first method of attaching a binding before now. Even though I’ve gotten the second method down pat, I look forward to trying the first method on my next quilt!
I am an on and off again quilter and your videos have been an amazing help to me! All of the frustration I have felt over the years are simple fixes that you teach. I wish I had seen your videos years ago!!!
This is awesome!!! Looking forward to the rest of them!!! Thank you!!!
The clearest instruction I have seen in print or video on the final closure. Thank you. I have bookmarked this one!
