I just saw a note from someone not happy with how you do and film your quilts. First I am 75, and been quilting a long time, second, I have learned a great deal from you but most of all I love the patterns and how you present yours and other quilt companies patterns. I am sorry that other quilters cannot just move on if they are not happy with anyone's work. Personally my quilts have become much more impressive because of you. Thank you for the care and concern you put into your quilts and your videos.
I'm a self taught quilter. I learned a lot from Donna about quilting and I refer to her videos all the time. Plus I buy all my precuts from Jordan fabrics. Cutting and binding are my weaknesses. But I am practicing.
@@nannettejohnstone7281 I too am self-taught. I was just explaining to my husband, that Donna's videos have inspired me to keep going. In order for me to produce some beautiful quilts, I bought a few of her kits. I have nothing but praise for Donna and her photographer husband!!!
I love your videos!!! It's nice to be able to understand and do quilting and your a Great teacher. Thank you so much for All your videos. I'm 77 yrs old and been quilting for a while but I ALWAYS learn something new from you. We never get too old to learn one more thing.🙂
THANK YOU for doing things differently than the Quilt Snobs lol. I was in a class and created by binding just like you did (not on bias) you'd have thought I had committed a horrible sin! Was chastised in front of the entire class. Quilting is an art. Some people create their art differently than others. Thank you for showing just how individual quilting can be!
Sewing is a skill but creating is an art. There is no real right or wrong. I love this. A straight seam and no bias ( GASP) Lighten up and do what works for you!
I have been quilting for about 15 years, and started watching your videos a few weeks ago. I want to thank you for changing my (sewing) life in two ways in particular: first, the idea of putting a weight at the top end of the ruler when you're cutting. Such a simple, seemingly obvious action, and yet it has made a HUGE difference in my ability to cut a straight line. Second - this method of binding the quilt. I have spent SO many hours doing it the way I was originally taught, and was never really happy with the results. The way you demonstrate in this video is SO much faster, and SO much neater. I can't thank you enough. Keep these videos coming!
I did a lot of in the ditch on my quilt! Now I am going to use this method for the first time! This video was forwarded to me by a quilting buddy! Used this method and now I may NEVER hand stitch the binding again!
I really like the camera angle in this video, it makes it easier for me to understand exactly what Donna is doing when I see it from her view. She is a great instructor and I love all her videos and always look forward to new ones. Very thankful that we go back and watch previous videos too. Thanks so much!
Donna bless your heart you were sewing in the dark! You need a lamp. Oh great I just remembered you usually have your son on the other side with a big bright lite shining on your work. ♥️ Oh my you do have a light. I love the way you did this binding.
I appreciate you taking the time to teach us new sewing people how to do this. I find it so easy to lean from you as you don’t over talk the process. You have become my favorite sewing channel.
Stumbled across this video and it has changed the way I do my edges. For an absolute beginner like me the instructions were clear and precise. Thank you for your instructions.
Thank you for being willing to do your own thing and not worrying about the quilt police! (i.e. using fingernails to press, machine binding, not using a "name brand - funded by a company" machine, and even sewing the binding together with a straight seam - - kudos to you for not worrying about what everyone else says!) I also wanted to say thanks for getting right to the point, not having annoying music, and having well cropped, with appropriate close up shots. Thank for you and your team! And yes, I like your well modulated voice - it's easy to listen to.
True North Herbals It is a Juki industrial sewing machine. She has since updated her machine to one I’ve wanted her to get for a long time, which is a Juki 8700. I've watched a LOT of binding videos and yours is BY FAR the best! Clear, easy to follow and genuine. You are the best! Thanks for showing us a realistic perspective. Really enjoyed the video and will be subscribing and looking to see what else you can teach me.
I love your tutorials. Your methods are very easy and make sense. I watch your binding tutorial every time I have to do one. Just as a refresher. They always turn out great. Thanks so much. Keep the videos coming!
Excellent tutorial! The camera angle was perfect (many show facing the sewer and I don't learn upside down) and it was straight forward with no extraneous information. Thank you! I think I can do this!
Again Donna thank you for being so precise and patient in your instruction. I can really feel that your are anticipating how a “newbie” would need to know each “inch” of a project and how to find the right spot to sew, the right folding method, and how to manipulate the fabric as you go along. It makes it so much easier to learn and “get it” in my head. 💕
I love your humble and basic teaching style that stays on topic. I am FINISHING my first quilt of many I started and gave up on. Old fashioned methods are endearing but not practical today. Your method for binding is superb; camera was in perfect place to see what you were doing and your explanations were very clear. I am making quilts for third world countries so I need to be fast with a durable quilt. Thank you thank you thank you!
I want to thank you very much, your the first person that went through how to put the batting on . This my favorite place to be is learning with you, and thank you.
I have been watching you for a couple years Donna, and am trying to go back and watch every single video. You are the most amazing teacher and quilter I have seen. Thank you so much for the time and patience you have showing every detail and the encouragement you give to others. You make quilting easier and fun besides rewarding. Hugs, Linda 😊
I am doing the same, these videos make a great review of the subjects that Donna has taught us and now that I'm not a rank beginner anymore, I am learning even more from these reviews. Isn't RUclips a terrific resource! And Jordan Fabrics is one of the best content providers around, too.
I am making my first blanket for my first grand baby. I've been watching MANY videos and this is by far the best one I have seen. I love your simple, straight-forward patient approach. Thank you for sharing your gifts here. I definitely will be revisiting your channel .
Donna, thank you so much for a great tutorial on sewing that darn binding! It is so encouraging for a real pro to admit that sometimes it doesn’t quite come out absolutely perfect. Your alternate method for getting a neat corner is a real help. Thank you so much and please keep us all encouraged with your great videos!
As always another very professional tutorial. Clear, precise and easy to understand. Jordan’s Fabrics you inspire me every time I watch your videos. It’s like having a teacher with me. Thank you from across the pond. X
Love your videos...so easy to follow. Love when you make minor mistakes that I seem to make frequently. It’s not the end of the world and generally easily fixable. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing! I agree this is the best binding video I've see too! I am new to quilting. I want to try making something. Your videos are very encouraging! Thank you!
a thumbs up would happen had she instructed watchers to IRON the seans. the time she spends "finger pressing" a smooth well pressed effort could be done. I can ALWAYS tell "homemade" items as person has not pressed open, flat or down the seams. Pressing seams with a good steam press will always generate a professional appearance .
Based on some of the comments of judgemental, elitist, quilting snobs, i am not surprised. Dismayed, perhaps, but not surprised. In my opinion, Donna's tutorials are outstanding, practical and inspiring!
This is a tutorial for faster binding for people who don’t want to bind. She made that very clear in the beginning of the video. I think Donna and everyone else knows that ironing helps.
Replying to Gayle Springers comment, I'm sorry but I have to disagree at least somewhat about the ironing of the binding. Yes it would look very flat and neat if it's iron however way too many people would be ironing the quilt border in order to iron that binding flat. this can distort the appearance of the entire quilt and that the border would get mushed down with a hot iron and steam therefore I much prefer Donna's method. If you were a perfectionist and a professional at ironing or in this case pressing then it would look very nice more than likely. So I think your comment was pretty well unjustified. Just a personal opinion.
I needed a refresher lesson in binding & doing nice corners! I used to be able to do really nice binding with clean corners. It’s good to have this lesson to refer to for doing perfect corners! Thank you for this lesson 😊
Great tutorial, thank you. I really appreciate that you actually show us the whole way, most people speed it up or skip through but I am a visual learner so this was perfect!
No doubt about it, Donna Jordan is one of the very best teachers on the internet! There are several that are really good. She's one of them. I learn a lot from many teachers as time passes. Always something new to learn.
I am a beginning quilter who started with a quilt top that my grandmother helped piece about 70 years ago. Your helpful and easy-to-follow videos and instructions helped me learn how to plan the border and sew it on, then the binding to make it a beautiful finished product. Thank you for your well-done videos!
I just finished repairing a quilt that my great grandmother had pieced about 60(?) years ago. It was quite a job but so worth it. What a nice tribute to your grandmother that you were able (and willing) to take on such a challenge, especially as a beginner.
You gave me confidence I could do this and it turned out pretty good. You don't even see my jointing seam on the binding ! thanks so much for teaching us, Donna. Blessings
I looked thru all your fabric which I about died seeing all the gorgeous, gorgeous colors, too find the fabric from Northcott for this Bargello wall hanging. I've never quilted in my life and I just feel in love with your patience showing us how easy it can be. I'm going to go broke. Please share with me the fabrics in this video. Thank you a million. No need to go to store anymore. I'm so excited!!
Agreed...my grandmother got sick and died before being able to teach me...my mother stayed away from quilting and crocheting because of her mother's love of it...so I am self taught. I love it and after getting past my fears, I bought a cheap machine, watched RUclips then hand quilted. I took a few classes and now I sew, sew, sew. I love sewing too.
I've always loved your straight forward methods that keep quilting fun with a high quality finish. I re-watched this and took notes this morning after I wasn't happy with my last attempt at binding. I used less than a 2 1/2 inch binding and it was a struggle. I t was all the chosen fabric I had left to use for the binding. Thanks Donna for reminding me that I can do it.
Thanks so much for your practical tips! I am a new quilter who wants to make some cool projects for family but I don't have a ton of time and your tutorials are just what I needed to see!
Thank you so much for your tutorials. They have helped me a lot during this virus lockdown. I made my first quilt ever! I have another topper that I am finishing as soon as my machine is repaired. I have learned so much about sewing, quilting, patience and studying from these tutorials. Thank you again.
Donna thanks so much for taking the time to do the whole binding. Seeing the different ways to do the corners is a big help as this is teeth grinding for me. Now I can unclench my jaw and zip around the whole quilt. So appreciate your relaxed precision.
I have only been quilting for about a year. And this is one of the easiest binding tutorial's that I've seen. I have to try this on my next quilt. I just want to say a big thank you.
I’ve struggled so much with complicated binding as a beginner, I love this simple method so I can practice it on small projects until I feel more comfortable with the fancier techniques ❤ Amazing job Donna as always ❤
I am really new at making quilts. I am making my first one now and learning from RUclips videos! I was really confused about binding but this video helped me to understand on how to do it! I subscribed and now going to deep dive into all your videos! Thank you!
I appreciate how clearly you demonstrate how to do the different processes in quilting. You've given me the confidence to try and make some quilts for my grandchildren. Thank you!
I always search your tutorials Donna when I get stuck in a project. Wether it’s inspiration or a technical issue I can always find an answer. Thank you for doing such concise and entertaining videos. You’re a treasure!
I had never seen the tip about using a pin to help guide that fold of the miter into the correct position. Thank You. I am definitely going to try this method for binding.
My grandmother was seen as a perfectionist in most areas of her life. Everything was just so. Now that I am learning to quilt, I love to find mistakes in her quilts. It helps me to see her as who she was and not the persona she gave off. She was human and flawed just like the rest of us. The difference was she didn’t go about telling others of her errors. Lol! When she died, there were many things in her past that we didn’t know about. I am able to see her truthfully now. Just wish I could tell her how amazing she was even in her imperfections. I hope she knew that she was worthy of love just as she was and didn’t need to be perfect.
I'm totally new at quilting and binding. I must have sat through seven videos on RUclips trying to give tutorials on how to bind a quilt. All of them talked too fast. All didn't explain in detail, and their cameras angles placement made it difficult to see what they were doing. I'm so glad I found your video. Your instructions are given calmly and slowly. You're a detailed and explaining everything. And the camera lens is positioned just right picking up every detail. Awesome job. We all thank you.
folks are always asking "what size should my binding be?" , "how do I stitch....front to back or back to front? " your tutorials are so easy to understand - have referred you guys many times for fabric, patterns & instructions!
it was nice to see you make those mistakes, even though they weren't intentional. it shows that even someone as experienced as you can still make them, and lets people like me, that are new not get so frustrated that we just give up, bc other quilters make it look so easy and never make mistakes. probably bc they edit them out. I really appreciated the attention to detail when it came mitering ther corners, showing exactly how to do it, where to stop, how to fold it, where to start, the backtacking (most don't even mention that. they do it but never mention it), and then you even went on to talk about some problems you may run into. i appreciate the fact that your sewing machine is an older model, even if it is a commercial one. most videos have brand new multi gadget, multi everything, that new people have no idea what they are even talking about, much less have on their machines. bc nobody just starting out is going to buy a fancy machine.
This was just what I needed to finish a baby shower gift in time. Thank you so much for all your videos and the time you take to help educate your adoring public!
Hadn't done any of this type of binding for a while, so wanted to review the technique. As I am doing baby quilts now, I will sew the binding to the *back* first, then fold over to stitch in the ditch from the back. This makes the small flap at the edge of the finished binding come out on top and Donna's method of stitching comes out so evenly that it looks really nice and leaves the back of the quilt, the side that will touch baby, nice and smooth. Thanks again, Donna, for another great tutorial!
I have been quilting since 1989 and only found out about RUclips tutorials a few months ago...learning so very much. Donna, I have found your no-nonsense methods so helpful as I "clean up my act!" Thankfully, it's s never too late to learn...thank you.
I tried this machine method on my last quilt and it worked beautifully. You have probably saved my arthritic hands a lot of pain in the future. Thank you for your clear instructions. I had hesitated doing machine binding in the past because I could never seem to get it to look nice. This time, following your directions it worked so well.
I'm binding my second quilt this way. Thank you! You're a lifesaver. It's so hard to put in the last 10% to finish a quilt and this makes it doable for me.
Hi Donna. You are a number 1 teacher. I never knew when putting the binding on,,,,instead of struggling with the miter corner, I can sew straight off and turn and sew....great trick....thank you. You take step by step,,,,,,,,,and its great. You are nice and neat🙏🕊🙏🕊❤️🎶👍😻😻😻😻🇺🇸🇮🇹
Thank you for making this simple for a not so good quilter person! 😄 your tutorials are the best Donna. Simple and to the point. So well explained and demonstrated. Kudos to you and Matt, your children, and crew. Wonderfully done.
Love the tutorial. You can avoid having an issue with your binding seams ending up in less than desirable places (like happened in the video) if you "audition" your binding on your quilt before you sew it down. Just place your binding on your quilt and pin the beginning in place, then run the binding around the outside of your quilt until you reach the beginning again and see if the places where you joined your binding ends up in places you don't want (like corners). If so, go back and move where you will begin your binding until all your seams are in places you are happy with THEN begin to sew it down. :)
I started watching this video and, as usual, was thinking I either have no talent for this....or I really need her machine and table. I can tell you my binding would not look like hers, which is so depressing. And then.......she made a boo-boo! It made my entire day, I tell you. Just to know I'm not the only one makes a huge difference. I look forward to Donna's email every day. It is my "to do" first thing in the morning. She is a natural teacher.
I've learnt more about quilting and sewing in the fortnight I've been watching you Jordan than I have in a lifetime of sewing, thank you. Totally addicted to watching you, all I have to do know is make a quilt that turns out as amazing as yours.
Thank you Donna for explaining things so clearly and providing those little tips that make it so much easier to succeed. Thank you for helping me build my skills on my quilting journey.
I chuckled all the way thru this video, I've been doing my binding this way for years, and yes, have been told about it. But as you said, if it's not going in a show it needs to be done and sturdy. No quilt is perfect!😊
Awesome Donna, I love your videos. I haven’t taken the plunge into quilting yet but your way of teaching is so professional that I’m getting more confident that I can do it. I love watching and learning from you. XOX
Cathy Niblock Donna I just love your tutorials and vdeos. I have learnt so much watching them. I have only started quilting 4 years ago and with your tutorials, my quilting is getting better, not perfect but much improved. Thankyou again so much.
Thank you for this easy method for binding, I’m a beginner and this tutorial is most helpful. I’ve been watching numerous videos on this and really like the way you explain and show each step. Thank you for sharing, May God Bless you!
I have been using this method for binding all of my quilts and use invisible thread for my top thread stitching in the ditch and matching thread in the bobbin.
I love your tutorials..tip....if the binding is stitched to the back first then pulled to the front..there is no worry about staying in the ditch and you can see the corners when you fold them. You have beautiful stitching front and back with no guessing. You can use a decorative stitch or a zig zag stitch. The corners should be folded opposite when stitching the binding down..opposite from when the binding was stitched onto the quilt..less bulk.
bonnie musselman ..when you stitch the binding onto the quilt you make the corner as you come around the quilt...same as always. Now when the quilt is turned over and you are now stitching the binding down..as you come to the corner..don’t make the corner like you did the first time around..stop before the corner..on the other side of the corner..start folding the corner with that underneath side folded first then fold the side down where you just stopped before the corner. I pin that corner with a forked pin...This is folded opposite of the way you stitched it down the first time and there is less bulk at the corner. I use a few clips on the other side of the corner where I will be stitching as I come around the corner...makes it easier. I hope this is clear enough. I love when I learn a new tip.
I always watch this video before I do my binding. It is a great refresher that helps me do a better job. Many thanks, and as you can see even years later. Thanks.
I can’t believe this is exactly how I bind a quilt! I thought I was breaking all the rules but I didn’t care because there are so many quilts that I want to do & so little time. Great minds think alike 🤗
I’ve been binding the other way for too long and have rarely been pleased with the results. I am definitely using this method going forward. None of my quilts are going to end up at a show and if they did I guess the quilt police would have to deduct points or what have you. I appreciate this share and the clarity with which you explain your method. Thank you!
Well, I just put binding on a quilt over the weekend, I did the diagonal seams whist sewing the strips together. Sewed it onto the quilt got to the end, there’s where the fun started! My left handedness, or the way my brain tried processing got me in trouble! I couldn’t finish with a diagonal seam to save my life! (I was watching a tutorial too)!! I finally gave up and did a straight seam, it turned out pretty darn well.
I always put binding on the back then complete on front that way I knew that it was stitched on evenly everywhere. No guessing but you did perfectly. I was driving across country from Vermont to home alaska. I wanted to stop at missouri star on my bucket list and Jordan fabrics . Well ms was closed til 2021 spring because of covid and couldnt get to Grant's pass because of forest fires. 2020 really not my good year. But I will not be able to do that trip again. In my 70s. But will continue to watch. I've made several quilts watching you over and over again. Thanks for your program
I can tell you make many many quilting projects from the neatness of the seams, the super straight edges and the perfect back side of the binding. There is no way I will EVER be able to have such a professional looking finish.

Donna is a dream..all she does is perfection..but does not expect us to be..just do your best..🇨🇦
Have begun binging your channel. Just wanted to say that I love the colours in this quilt.
Blessings
This has to be the best binding tutorial I've ever seen on RUclips. Thank you! This is fast and easy and looks really great :D
*Thank you* for that precise instruction on where to stop & start back, on the corners!!! Best explanation for this beginner.
Donna you are truly the “Norm Abram” of quilting! You are teaching me to quilt concisely and clearly! So much fun! Thanks!
Ahh, another Norm Abram fan! Yes, I agree with you, Donna's style is reminiscent of Norm's -- both are great teachers!
Finally, someone's shown how to do this in a way that makes sense to a non-quilter. What a pro! Really grateful for this demonstration.
I am still a beginner at sewing, and couldn't see what she was up to until she....folded...it...back...over....!! Fantastic! Thank you so much!
What a beautiful job. I find it hard to get a perfect stitch on the back using this method. What is the secret?
Makes sense to a quilter, too!

Bless you. A reasonable approach to quilting.. And bless you for not adding annoying, monotonous music.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. They have helped me a lot during this virus lockdown. I made my first quilt ever! I have another topper that I am finishing as soon as my machine is repaired. I have learned so much about sewing, quilting, patience and studying from these tutorials. Thank you again.
Being a newbie at quilting, I have learned so much from you. Thank you for your tutorials. They are well done and your descriptions are very detailed.
Donna thanks so much for taking the time to do the whole binding. Seeing the different ways to do the corners is a big help as this is teeth grinding for me. Now I can unclench my jaw and zip around the whole quilt. So appreciate your relaxed precision.
I have watched this tutorial several times in fact every time I make another quilt. I’m still a newbie so thank you Donna for this tutorial😊
I have arthritis, so I appreciate the tutorial on machine sewing the binding, which is how I plan to do mine :)
I'm in the same boat with arthritis so will be doing the same keep safe and well !Greetings from Tasmania Australia!
I am really new at making quilts. I am making my first one now and learning from RUclips videos! I was really confused about binding but this video helped me to understand on how to do it! I subscribed and now going to deep dive into all your videos! Thank you!
That’s a beautiful quilt and it’s great to see you doing what works for you and not just going ‘by the book’! I’ve learned loads. Thank you xxx
Hey Thanks! I've got the "I can do this" feeling after watching your videos. Huge smile here, heart full of gratitude!
Brilliant tutorial! As many others have said, thank you for using easy speak and techniques! I'm 67 and just starting quilting. Thumbs up all the way.
your tutorials are so easy to understand - have referred you guys many times for fabric, patterns & instructions!
it was nice to see you make those mistakes, even though they weren't intentional. it shows that even someone as experienced as you can still make them, and lets people like me, that are new not get so frustrated that we just give up, bc other quilters make it look so easy and never make mistakes. probably bc they edit them out.
Thank you...I just had an, “Ahah!” moment. Now, I get it. I certainly will continue to view your tutorials. Glad I spotted you.
Glad the method worked for you too!

I Love Ya Donna Jordan !! You are so easy to follow, a great teacher ❤
I'm binding my second quilt this way. Thank you! You're a lifesaver. It's so hard to put in the last 10% to finish a quilt and this makes it doable for me.
I turn to this video time and time again. Showing a friend your method tonight. Thanks for making this video!
I lved this before and loved it now! Great teaching about Binding- thanks!
Sandu
Thank you for making this simple for a not so good quilter person! 😄 your tutorials are the best Donna. Simple and to the point. So well explained and demonstrated. Kudos to you and Matt, your children, and crew. Wonderfully done.
You are such a good teacher. Even though I've never met you, I feel like you are a dear friend. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this tip. I had a seam on a corner once and was so annoyed.
You are the best Donna! You patiently showed us beginners step by step. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
XOX
Excellent! If you don’t get it, read this! Best explanation ever. Thank you Donna.
I love this method of binding, it really is very quick. Would never hand stitch again. Thankyou.
Cathy Niblock
Donna I just love your tutorials and vdeos. I have learnt so much watching them. I have only started quilting 4 years ago and with your tutorials, my quilting is getting better, not perfect but much improved. Thankyou again so much.
The combination of your TOP Quality Stellar teaching and the GENIUS camerawork is the BEST I’ve seen ANYwhere on RUclips. Thank you Very Much :)
And the absence of jabber for minutes before anything's taught. This was perfect, concise and no nonsense. Just good useful instructions. Thank you!
How can you tell when the needle needs to be replaced? Love UR dilemma, to seam rip or not.....and UR solution! Thanks! Perfection isn't everything!
😄🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍
Thank you for this easy method for binding, I’m a beginner and this tutorial is most helpful. I’ve been watching numerous videos on this and really like the way you explain and show each step. Thank you for sharing, May God Bless you!
Thank you, that was the best tutorial on binding I've ever seen.
I love the way you do binding and your quilting is unbelievable
I love these tutorials!!
This the best love making the quilt hate bonding and corners thank you for sharing
Catherine Mclaughlin “
What an industrial machine!!
I have been using this method for binding all of my quilts and use invisible thread for my top thread stitching in the ditch and matching thread in the bobbin.
love your tutorials Keep them coming Donna you are a very good instructor
I’ve watched a lot of videos on binding and this was the best. I’m ready to tackle this. Thank you!
Ramona Kufalk could you explain once more what you mean by stitching the corners opposite? Thanks for the tip!
bonnie musselman ..when you stitch the binding onto the quilt you make the corner as you come around the quilt...same as always.
MonaQuilts, that’s exactly how I started doing my corners. The miter is so much nicer.
Your're brave to stitch from the front and folding down as you go, and with no pins! It was fun to watch.
I can tell you make many many quilting projects from the neatness of the seams, the super straight edges and the perfect back side of the binding. There is no way I will EVER be able to have such a professional looking finish.
