The mother of one of my daughter’s oldest friends (since Kindergarten) just lost her 5 year battle to ovarian cancer. The mom was in the middle of making a quilt for my daughter’s friend’s daughter (her granddaughter), using the granddaughter’s receiving blankets from when she was a baby. (The granddaughter is 13 now.) Sadly, she did not finish. She got all the blocks constructed and sewn together and was in the process of quilting the backing and batting in between. When my daughter’s friend came to me and asked me if I could finish the quilt, I was both truly honored and terribly nervous! I sew clothing for my own granddaughter; I crochet afghans, but I have never quilted! Thank you so much for this in depth tutorial so I can finish a very special quilt designed by a very special angel in heaven. ❤️

I have watched over 10 quilting videos, and your ‘how to quilt’ from beginning to end provided sufficient detail for me to complete a T-shirt quilt. As a beginner or one-time quilter, you described other options/methods, which was not only educational, but also encouraged me to want to attempt to make more quilts. Thank you, thank you. Don't forget to add a label to your finished quilt! Whether it's a gift for someone else or a quilt for yourself, having a name & date is such a great bit of history. And if it's for a special event, add that info & the place. It can be handwritten on a fabric remnant with a archive pen or printed from the computer or embroidered - whatever works for you.

Finally, An awesome step by step that is clear for those of us novices. Thank you so much for this. Now I may be able to get my edges to look better. I have been adding the edges but had no clue on how to make those mitered corners. I love all your videos. Like others I would love to see videos on long arm however for those of us that do not own one like me I would prefer videos on how to free motion on our home sewing machine. Thanks Donna!

I wanted to have a go at quilting, having very tiny amount of sewing knowledge, thought it would be really hard. But your tutorial really made me feel I can do this and get excited. I was very lucky to win a sewing machine recently and am learning how to use it, I've started with napkins to practice and now have the bug ~ quilting here I come

If you use the precuts - 5" squares (charm packs) or the long, 2 inch strips, most of the cutting is done for you. And a good, sharp rotary cutter & rulers - it goes pretty fast and helps you to be accurate!

    Hi Donna
Love your tutorials but especially this one. I watched it again today while I’m working on a quilt… I love your border method. When I learned how to quilt in 2008 I was told that you measure the quilt top in three places and take an average of those measurements for your borders. Your method works perfectly and saves time 💙

I really like how u showed n explained by writing down on paper the quilt diagram for the borders n binding measurements. The only thing I found different was joining the binding strips w a straight seam rather than on the diagonal. Very good video n u r a great teacher.

One more thing, thanks to Matt for cutting pre-cuts! I really don't like using the pinked ones, and he has a great eye for choosing coordinating fabrics!!

I would also love to see the setting up of a long arm. I have a friend with a long arm but not computerized. You have to free motion quilt using her machine with the handles to move the machine across the quilt. It does about three sweeps then the bobbin has to be replaced. .
Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful and give me loads of hints, especially colour choices that I perhaps would not have thought of before. Thank you too for the free patterns They are full of great ideas.
