Thank you so much for such an amazing way to bind a quilt. The corners always gave me trouble but you showed how to do it in such an easy way. And now, I don’t have to measure and hope for the best when attaching the ends. Now, when I get compliments for my quilts, I won’t have to say to myself, “Don’t look at the corners, don’t look at the corners, don’t look at the corners!”
"It might be a little bit fiddly, but nowhere near as fiddly as joining it on the diagonal as we used to do!" You said it, Stacy! Love this video! Thank you!
This video popped up just as I was about to bind 25 wall hanging for a family reunion. That joining trick has saved my life and sanity. You’re my hero! I ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It’s easy when you have a big table for sewing. I envy everyone who does. I live in a townhouse/ cardboard box so it’s frustrating to cut anything. Sorry just want to complain to anyone who will listen.😊
I understand. I record these tutorials in my bedroom on one desk. When I cut everything has to come off my desk and the sewing machine goes on the floor 🤗
Chorika, I also live in an apartment but have solved this problem. I got a cutting table at Jo-Ann's that have two sides that fold down for narrow storage. I was able to afford it by using a 60% off coupon at the time of purchase. If you do not have a Jo-Ann's nearby I think you could order it and have it shipped . If you download their app that will get you started. Good luck
Best quilting video ever! Such clear instructions, visuals, no wasted time at any point. You are a terrific teacher and I appreciate this video. It's really a gift
Love this video. New to quilting and used your tutorial to guide me thru my first quilt. Worked great! Just curious about the reason for starting on the back?
Using a Creative Grids Clipped Folded Corner Ruler eliminates the need to join binding strips by placing one strip vertically over the other horizontal strip, drawing the diagonal line to stitch on, sewing and cutting a 1/4 inch seam and then cutting off dog ears. Strips (as many as you want at a time) are placed right side up on top of each other. The folded corner ruler is used to cut the ends of the strips diagonally, eliminating dog ears at the same time. It is very simple to join strips as the cut edges fit together with the 1/4 inch seam matching perfectly. Saves so much time and leaves virtually little chance of error. Wouldn’t want to go back to the traditional method.
Thanks, this is great as I don’t want to buy yet another specialized ruler just for binding. Clear directions using what I already have. Keep up the good work
Great video! Never thought of looking for an app to calculate how much binding, backing etc is needed. Downloaded it now and it will be a great help in future. Up to now have always done the calculations the old fashioned way :-) Going to try this binding method with using my stitch-in-a-ditch foot.
Thanks for this suggestion. I never have drawn a line, but I recently bought the ruler you mentioned and that is a way to use it that I had not thought of. Thank you!
I’m a beginner in quilting. This video instruction seems the easiest to me. We all learn different. You’re a good instructor and your calm voice really helps. Thank you for sharing with us
Stacey, if you don't mind my saying so, you have the most elegantly shaped hands that I've seen in many years. Long slim fingers, no big knotty knuckles, no bulging veins, well proportioned, with no bony appearance. Lovely nails. Beautiful, Ma'am. I'm an artist, and I've always noticed things like that.
This my preferred method too ! So easy. No hand sewing required , or if sewing by machine the frustrating part is not catching the back as you sew in the ditch.
First time making a quilt. I do sew but, for the past decade mostly garments. Thanks so much for such a clear and detailed tutorial! My quilt turned out so nicely. I loved your fabric choices. 😊
That was a very good video. I would have liked to have seen where the front stitch ended up sitting on the reverse of it. That seems to be my problem. I can usually see the stitch on the other side and not always in the right spot. Can you show us the back please? TY
Sue, I finish all my quilts this way. When you pull that binding over you have a very narrow binding showing on the reverse side as opposed to if you were doing the traditional method of hand stitching. I use invisible thread in my bobbin (I buy them pre-wound because it is hard to wind them without them getting too tight). With this method your top stitch will not fall onto the binding on the back side because it is so narrow. Stacey used a straight stitch on hers which is very nice. I use a decorative stitch on all mine, usually the serpentine (curvy) stitch. I own a 9mm machine and I love the way the curvy stitch looks on my binding. I have been teaching this method for a few years now and am so glad Stacey did a video. I hope many more people choose this method. Some of us are aging and our hands just won’t do the binding any longer or some are limited with time.
That was a fabulous video and perfect timing. Loved the great angles to view where and how your new method is done . 👍🏻⭐️Thanks for sharing and will help alot .
I did my binding like this with the very first quilt I ever made. Before I knew how you're "supposed to" do it. I tried with my next 2 quilts to finish it how it's traditionally done and I ended up having to rip seams, reattach extra fabric, etc. It was a nightmare! This is such an awesome method and your quilt looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I love these detailed instructions! My Quilt Guild donates quilts and wants the binding sewed on by machine. I have never conquered this but after watching this video I am going to give it a go! I usually cut my bindings with my Accuquilt as I do a 2 1/2 inch binding but I love the bias as it lays so nice. Thanks😊
Fantastic, easy-to-follow video. As a new quilter, the detailed explanation of the steps is very helpful. I would have liked to see the back of the quilt to see how the stitching is supposed to look from that side. I've only ever attached binding by hand, but for the quilt I'm doing now I will try this method. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Patricia! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, and please do check out some of my other videos, I think you might like them too ☺️

I’m glad found your video! I’ve been trying to do my bindings this way, but they never come out as nice as yours! I was always taught to do bindings on the bias, (they were supposed to be stronger). On much used and washed quilts, the bindings wear out. I’m certainly going to do your way next ! Thanks for this great video!
I love your videos so much! Thank you for explaining everything so well. I definitely feel like I can start quilting by looking at your RUclips channel. Keep going! You're doing wonderful!
My sister has a small house and no large cutting table. She does have a queen bed that has thick mattresses on it. She bought a sheet of plywood (4 ft x8ft) lays it on top of her bed and cuts on it!
That’s such a clever solution, Donna! 😊 It’s great to hear how resourceful your sister is-using the bed as a cutting table is genius! Thanks for sharing! 🌟
I feel like such a weight has been lifted off me! I have hated binding quilts for years and years. You have fixed that! I just completed my least frustrating and best looking binding of all time using this method! Thanks a million for this post!
That’s so awesome! I am glad you found it so helpful. Sorry I am just getting to your comment now. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
Great video! Each step is so well explained. I too agree with the comment by another person about cutting both the edges at a 45-degree angle to finish. I never thought of doing that. Thank you. Going to watch your other videos.
I love your video!! I cannot tell you how many quilts I have stacked up needing to be bound before being sent off to be loved… it’s shameful! 😉 Hopefully with this tutorial I can get them done and sent out to their new owners. Thank you so much!!

I'm not sure but my 1st triangle works fine then I add 2nd triangles for flying geese and it doesn't look right...when you say sew scant line from the pencil line...which side?? Also when I trim section off from line 1/4" I usually cut just b4 1/4" is that right?? Thank you so much
Easiest binding I’ve ever tried! Thank you. Love the quilt too. Is that simply a patchwork similar to the one you did at the beginning of your tutorials?
At about the 6 minute point, when you are instructing us to cut the edge of the binding at an angle, it would have been helpful to emphasize "wrong side up" for us beginners who might make that error!!!😊Otherwise, great vid!
Am an old experienced quilter.BUT..l always get a little bump on the finished edge where the fabric fits into the opening..pressing does not help..great vid..🇨🇦
Ok, so at the end when you were on the last leg of the binding, you didn’t show where the stitches fall on the opposite side. Are they guaranteed to be along the same 1/8” allowance that you sewed?
I love your “A finished quilt is a perfect quilt” sign! Yes, binding is always a daunting part of the quilt for me. Definitely not something I look forward to or enjoy.
@@staceyleecreative You are very welcome. I really enjoyed your video, and I have come back to rewatch it once more. I’m finishing up the hand quilting on the quilt I’m making for my first grandchild right now. When I get to the binding, I’ll come back and watch again while I’m doing the binding. Thank you so much! It’s like having a friend right here in the room helping!
Hi Eveyln, I am not sure without seeing it, but at a guess I would say the binding needs to be more smoothed out more when placed on top of your quilt.
You instructions SAVED me and my quilts. I am a newbie and every time I would try the "pocket method" - I couldn't stuff it in, it would be a HUGE bulk in my binding - so much so, that i was embarrassed to even GIFT 1 of my quilts - then I saw your video where you CUT the edges with a 45D angle - both pieces - YAY! I finally made the almost perfect quilt with almost perfect binding - and all thanks to YOU.
I have come across all these little tips elsewhere before but now you have combined them all into this brilliant tutorial which I can refer to anytime I need a refresher. Many thanks for this.
Great video - well done. I do my bindings this way and the only thing I would add is that when sewing the attached binding down from the front, make sure your top thread matches the binding, and the bobbin thread matches the backing fabric because there will be a visible stitch line around your quilt back NEXT to (away from) the binding.
@@dcwatashi whenever you do figure it out please post a tutorial so that others with the same issues/frustrations can learn from you 💜 I'm a newbie with so many questions because I find finishing a quilt so intimidating.
I have to look at a video every time I finish a quilt project. This one, by far, is the easiest one to do. Thank you for the “plain talk” of walking us through this process! I’m not going back the the other way of measuring the tails and folding using the binding tool. Can’t tell you how many times I have needed to rip it out and start over, lol!
Oh my goodness, Stacey, I learned so many tips and tricks from you on this video !! My bindings ended up wonky a lot and now I know why and I also know how to fix that. The directions on how to attach the ends of the binding was awesome ! Thank you, thank you, Sweet lady. 🌺
I love this method of binding with the ends meeting up. I've done the diagonal join so many times, I'll have to practice this a few times to get it down. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Thank you! You demonstrated that so clearly that I was able to see what I have been doing wrong when I have tried to do binding that way. I can't wait to bind now, I have a small stack of projects that have been waiting for me to figure this out. Thank you again.
That's awesome Kay - I love that I helped you figure it out! Thanks so much for watching my video! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, it means a lot to me 😊
OMG! This is the *absolute* best tutorial on binding! OMG! 'all the difficulities related to manipulating the corners and the final, 'attaching the ends of the binding together are clarified, streamlined and made EASY!!!! Why is this the first time I'm seeing this!? Why make something so easy so difficult! Thank you so much! Now, I'll NEVER dread the hump I've always had to get-over to complete a quilt!!!!! Saved to Quilting Hack (here at RUclips) under it's own category: Quilting - Absolute Best Binding Technique Ever!!!!!
Hi there. I'm just a beginner quilter and have been dreading binding my first quilt. But not any more . Your tutorial is wonderful. It's by far the best one I've watched, and I've watched a LOT. So thank you so much. I'm anxious to get started. Thanks again. 😊
Thank- you, Thank-you, after years of struggling to put bindings on my quilts, this technique is a game changer. A dream come true. I will never do it any other way going forward. Thank-you again!
That is awesome Anna! Love it! I appreciate you taking the time to come back to my video and let me know how you got on! Please pop by my channel again soon 😊
I LOVE the Left Compensating Foot! It's a binding game changer! (Brother and Babylock owners - your foot is called a Left Bi-Level Foot. Sure wish Janome would make a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot. You can use their Stitch in the Ditch Foot and shift your needle to the left - and it works pretty well, but not as well as a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot.) Thank you for your tutorial! Very informative!
That looks like it would be sooo much easier for the binding. I always fight with the final joining of the binding and the corners. Thank you soooomuch for the ideas!!!
I would really like to have seen a close up of your finished seam on the front as well as what it looked like on the back. This is so much faster than hand sewing! Thanks for sharing this.❤
@@dcwatashi i use the method only stitch with one of my decorative stitches. Or i line the binding up just up to the first stitching line so it does show as much.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am currently sitting on the couch with a quilt I finished with your method. I love this method. I was so frustrated with my own ideas that I threw them out of my head and followed your directions without question. My computer was always close. I love the results. You are in my history never to leave. Again, Thank You
you, my dear, are the best! i just used this video to bind my second ever quilt-- watched it through, then again, pausing every step of the way to do exactly what you show. easy peasy, and turns out that when i know what i'm doing, i actually quite enjoy the binding step-- the grand finale! yay for me! 😁 i've been stalled on this one at the squaring up and binding phase for a couple months, have worked up 4 more quilts in various stages, waiting for the stars to align so i was ready to bind #2-- and turns out, you are the star! thanks!
Excellent tutorial, particularly for how to join the strips to make the binding and for showing a far easier way to deal with joining the beginning to the end.

At about the 6 minute point, when you are instructing us to cut the edge of the binding at an angle, it would have been helpful to emphasize "wrong side up" for us beginners who might make that error!!!😊Otherwise, great vid!
Noted!
@@staceyleecreative Excellent! I did follow step by step and learned from your careful explanations.
Am an old experienced quilter.BUT..l always get a little bump on the finished edge where the fabric fits into the opening..pressing does not help..great vid..🇨🇦
Thanks for watching Pauline 🤗
Ok, so at the end when you were on the last leg of the binding, you didn’t show where the stitches fall on the opposite side. Are they guaranteed to be along the same 1/8” allowance that you sewed?
Thats is up to your sewing. You can see the back here: What Did The Back Of The Quilt Look Like?
ruclips.net/video/4ge_yBtL_e4/видео.html
@@staceyleecreative Oh I see! I thought we had to catch the very edge of the binding- which scares me! Yes yours looks great!
I love your “A finished quilt is a perfect quilt” sign!
Yes, binding is always a daunting part of the quilt for me. Definitely not something I look forward to or enjoy.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment 🤗
Where did you get your pins?
Magic Pins extra long, click on more in her description. I use the and they are great. Amazon, Joann’s, Walmart
They are Magic Pins Fine Extra long you can get them here and with my link you get 20% off glnk.io/mzmmj/staceyleecreative
I got a Stripology ruler but it’s like my blade is too thick; I can’t get it all the way down.
Hi Kat, that doesn't sound. I would contact where you purchased it from and discuss with them. These rulers are expensive and that sounds faulty to me
I like clips better. Straight pins tend to attack me. I like that way of binding much easier to me. No confusion I'm still an old newby at quilting.
Clips are great! Thanks for watching 🤗
The hardest part of quilting for me is measuring and cutting the backing and batting! Any help there?
Hi, this video may help: ruclips.net/video/RC2gO48igL0/видео.htmlsi=jaLKalb0Xr5LBYWC
@@staceyleecreative this basting video was good, but because the backing and batting are so large, it is hard to measure them.
Hi
What is the name or number the the juki foot for the binding?
Hi i am not sure of the number but it's 📌 Juki Left Compensating Foot: jukijunkies.com/product/compensating-foot-left-1-5mm?ref=staceylee
Help, tried this method and got big waves in the binding. Can someone tell me what I did wrong and how to correct it.
Hi Eveyln, I am not sure without seeing it, but at a guess I would say the binding needs to be more smoothed out more when placed on top of your quilt.
Can I do this joining method if I attach from the front and flip to back?
Absolutely, works both ways! Thanks so much for watching 😊
I don't have a cell phone is this app available for a laptop?
Yes I think so. Google Quilting Calculator 😊
Can I ask what is name of ruler? X
Hi Leslie, it's this one amzn.to/464sHkP
Ma’am, I’m loving the sign on your bookshelf.
Thanks so much! 🤗
I have seen a hundred binding videos and this is hands down the very, very best!! I will never dread binding ever again! Can't thank you enough
I agree, 3 quilts to bind before xmas and the clock is ticking down-I am less anxious now so thank you for that
Wow, thank you! That’s awesome! Thanks for watching 🤗
Irene, you said exactly what I was thinking.
I agree completely!
That’s so awesome! I’m so happy to hear it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 🤗
Me too! What a relief to build our confidence. So doable!
This is the best, most helpful tutorial I’ve seen on binding quilts. I’m getting ready to bind a quilt now and really love that I found this video!
Just catching up on my comments now. Thanks so much for leaving such a sweet comment, I really appreciate it 🤗
I have come across all these little tips elsewhere before but now you have combined them all into this brilliant tutorial which I can refer to anytime I need a refresher. Many thanks for this.
Glad it was helpful!

Great video - well done. I do my bindings this way and the only thing I would add is that when sewing the attached binding down from the front, make sure your top thread matches the binding, and the bobbin thread matches the backing fabric because there will be a visible stitch line around your quilt back NEXT to (away from) the binding.
Great point! I am a cheat when it come to thread and almost always use white!
Sorry to irk you 😊
@@dcwatashi Thanks for the feedback. Good luck with working out the best way for you to do your binding 🥰
@@dcwatashi whenever you do figure it out please post a tutorial so that others with the same issues/frustrations can learn from you 💜 I'm a newbie with so many questions because I find finishing a quilt so intimidating.
I personally loved the way you teach and the end result thank you😊
Honey you did the dang thang on this video! Loves your concise instructions and fantastic camera angles. I cannot wait to sew my first quilt 🤗

I’ve been quilting for about 7 years and always dread the binding. Thank you for removing the terror and making it an easy part of the journey!
Aww I’m so happy to hear it helped you! ❤️ Thanks for leaving a comment - I really appreciate it 🤩
I have to look at a video every time I finish a quilt project. This one, by far, is the easiest one to do. Thank you for the “plain talk” of walking us through this process! I’m not going back the the other way of measuring the tails and folding using the binding tool. Can’t tell you how many times I have needed to rip it out and start over, lol!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 😊
Oh my goodness, Stacey, I learned so many tips and tricks from you on this video !! My bindings ended up wonky a lot and now I know why and I also know how to fix that. The directions on how to attach the ends of the binding was awesome ! Thank you, thank you, Sweet lady. 🌺
That's awesome Teresa! I am glad you found it helpful! 😊
Yes! How to attach the ends, and cutting the beginning binding piece on the 45⁰ angle is a total game changer!
I love this method of binding with the ends meeting up. I've done the diagonal join so many times, I'll have to practice this a few times to get it down. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Awesome Priscilla, I am glad you liked this technique! I appreciate you watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment 😊

Hi there. I'm just a beginner quilter and have been dreading binding my first quilt. But not any more . Your tutorial is wonderful. It's by far the best one I've watched, and I've watched a LOT. So thank you so much. I'm anxious to get started. Thanks again. 😊
Wonderful! Thanks so much for watching!
You can use their Stitch in the Ditch Foot and shift your needle to the left - and it works pretty well, but not as well as a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot.)
Thank you for your tutorial! Very informative!
Awesome - thanks so much! I appreciate you naming the foot for other machines 😊
Also it's great to finally find out what "that" foot in the old collection is for and what it does. What is it called for singer machines?
@KKIcons - I don't know if Singer, Viking of Pfaff makes one. (I work for a local Janome, Elna, Brother, Babylock, Juki, HandiQuilter dealership.)
THIS is how I will bind my quilts from no on! Thank you for detailed descriptions!
Awesome! I’m glad you found it helpful. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 🙏
I find that the binding is the easiest 😂.
Especially when knowing that's literally the last lap of the quilt making journey!!!.
❤
Awesome! Glad you like it 😊
I find also the binding is relaxing knowing I'm almost done and ready to be washed for bleeding
That looks like it would be sooo much easier for the binding. I always fight with the final joining of the binding and the corners. Thank you soooomuch for the ideas!!!
Awesome Kim! I am glad you found it helpful! 😊
Thank you for this tutorial! I absolutely hate adding the binding! This sewing it on is a life saver ❤ LOVE 💕 IT!
Awesome - I am glad you like it 🤗 Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
Sew it on from the front, and then hand stitch it on the back to finish it off!
Great idea Kathy!
I will share some pics on my community page of the stitches and the back
You're good at giving clear and calm directions. And this quilt is adorable, by the way.
Aww thanks so much Kristina 🤗I really appreciate your kind feedback ❤️
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am currently sitting on the couch with a quilt I finished with your method. I love this method. I was so frustrated with my own ideas that I threw them out of my head and followed your directions without question. My computer was always close. I love the results. You are in my history never to leave. Again, Thank You
