    I have been sewing since I was 9. Soon be 77 yrs. Sewing for joy and to assist those in need is good for you. Keep your head working w measuring, planning, sorting thru my stash..Yes. I have a fair size one even now. My kids and grandkids all have quilts and knitted items. Young people today do not have hobbies that will result in something done while anxious, waiting thru a difficult pregnancy, illness, etc. If we can do something with our hands we look back at accomplishments, not lost time and depression. Lessons from a long life with its share of upset and downs. Have a nice day!

    • @MaryAnnNytowl
      @MaryAnnNytowl Год назад +8

      Please don't assume that "young people today" are hobby-less, or don't have hobbies that make things. It's extremely dismissive of several generations of people you don't even know. One should NEVER paint people with such a broad brush.
      I currently know multiple generations of hobbyists that do many kinds of things! Like woodworking, multiple kinds of crochet and knitting, sewing, painting (large and small, canvas to vehicles to murals), jewelry making, gardening, jelly & jam making, canning, and soapmaking. Some of my friends do multiple things on this list, as do I.
      I know some that are even learning NEW hobbies; as am I, in fact. These friends I refer to above range everywhere from 15 to 62, as well. Im pretty sure every generation of those "young people today" of which you complain are covered in that group.
      It's quite rude to assume that just because YOU don't know any "young people today" that can make something, they don't exist. That kind of attitude gives anyone over 60 a bad name.
      I can assure you that they absolutely do exist. In fact, many of them have RUclips channels (and other social media) sharing what they make, and how to make them! Perhaps seek them out and see that youve misjudged entire generations of people.

      Hi! I’m 22, I used to work a lot when I first had my daughter. Recently I’ve been able to stay at home and enjoy my little one, I have started a small business in making chunky yarn blankets by hand! I definitely am obsessed with crafts I just never had the time as I do now. I think it’s beautiful to pass down to my daughter and looking into quilting now as well. She’ll always have something made from me🥹

      I also am fairly new to quilting. I have made the easy rag quilt for a baby shower gift and there is really no messing up on that one. Also just made a 9 large rectangular block lap quilt. No binding, I have not conquered that yet, and it turned out ok. I rushed thru it and didn't get all straight or should I say even. The material I had to work with was very stretchy. Any tips on how to work with stretchy material so I don't mess up on the lining up the blocks? TIA for the replies.

    Nice pattern, thanks! One tip I do that i find helps closing the turning hole is to trim that area about 1/4 inch bigger, it gives you a little more to turn in. Clip the ends of that piece on the diagonal and your ends are a touch longer to tuck in as well. I've been quilting a number of decades, this little tip does help a lot for quilts/blankets that you aren't binding.

    Love all of your videos and appreciate your wonderful teaching skills. One of the things I do with my scraps is to make scrappy "kennel quilts" of various sizes that I donate to local shelters for cats and dogs. These are much smaller quilts that fit into kennel carriers and/or are used for the rescued animals to have something warm to lay on. I think it's important that each of us give back and using our scraps is such an awesome way to create needed items to help those in need!!

    Stacey, This was the most relaxing, informative, and easy to follow sewing video I've seen yet. I Love your accent and smile too. I Thank for your hard work and caring about Fosters. I was a foster child most ALL my life in GA & ALA and taken by Ala Courts at age 13 for good. I'M TRULY A MIRACLE AND GOD KEEP ME FROM DYING MANY TIMES. God saved me many years later when I decided to let go of my hurts to Him and surrender. Thanks for giving me ideas of how I can care and use the gift God gave me for foster children. I belong to a women's ministry at my church and looking for ideas on how to serve Foster Chidlren since I'm too old and single and can't adopt or foster. I thank God for you and others who care about foster children. Not every child surrenders after the things I went through and saw and many never survive. Hopefully and prayerfully since I rededicated my life to the Lord and pray everyday, God is saving them. No Matter what age you surrender God will save you if you turn to Him. I just want my dash to count for Him and others I can share my life's story with. If you are interested in hearing about my story God gave me let me know at renewd112308@gmail.com. Because of Jesus,
