Jessica, this is the best and most detailed demo of joining the binding ends on a quilt that I have ever seen. I've avoided finishing quilts this way because it never worked for me. Now I understand. Thank you. You are an incredibly patient person and an excellent teacher! ❤
Absolutely the best tutorial. Joining the binding ends at the end of the attachment 28:21 has always been my challenge but this method is fantastic. Thank you so much.
This is the best binding tutorial I've seen and I have seen many. I just finished binding a quilt for my grandson using your methods. It was easy and fast. I love your tutorials. A scrappy trip Christmas quilt is next! Thank you
Excellent tutorial on making and attaching binding. I have been sewing for 35+ years, and I’ve made a few quilts for my grandchildren. Recently I inherited two quilt tops that were hand pieced by my great grandmother. I am going to finish them. I’m thankful to have found your tutorials so I can learn more before attempting to finish these precious family heirlooms. I’ll be watching your videos! Thanks so much!
You are so easy to understand. Not a lot of word salad but very thorough in your instructions. I watched several vids about joining binding edges together but no one explained it like you did. I am going to finish my gmother’s quilt and start my first from scratch watching your instructions as soon as my new machine gets here. Thank you for the inspiration. I can see your passion in the quilts you make❤
You’re a great teacher! This is an excellent video! I’ve watched hundreds of videos and this is the best binding video I’ve seen. Everything was clearly described, explained and shown.
Excellent tutorial. I don't love that you skipped the step of ironing the binding in half as it seems you just end up with one more thing to wrangle while you're sewing the binding on. But regardless, it's always fun to see a familiar thing done a different way, as one never knows what one might learn. Thank you for preparing and sharing such a high quality tutorial, Jessica!
I’m gonna try sewing by machine. Until now I’ve only done by hand, but it’s a long process. Not sure I’ll like that line of stitching to show! I’ll have to get really good at keeping it straight, and the quilts are heavy! We’ll see! Thanks for your excellent demonstration!
Hi Jessica, it was a joy to watch your sew along, you really explained everything so well. I’m looking forward to making this quilt and can’t wait for the next sew along. 😊
There is one more important final step before a quilt finished, adding a label. If you haven’t already, would you consider talking about labeling quilts. Congratulations on a really great beginner quilting series!
Hi Jessica, I recently found your tutorials and really enjoy your techniques. I especially liked your hand binding method. I always hand bind my quilts but I have never used two threads because I thought it would be too thick but I can see by your example that it looks great and I love the way you do your corners and ending. I feel like I do my corners different every time because I find they don’t always come out exact. Anyway, thank you so much for your help. I also like your thoughts on flying geese blocks. I always find them very challenging and I don’t always get a good 1/4” at the bottom edge which makes me crazy. The result is that I “avoid” them 😢 but I love they way they look in a quilt so now I will just forge ahead and be brave and hope that the more I do the better I will get. I also loved your Nona quilt along. Thanks again, Elaine from New Hampshire 😊
Jessica, I think you are amazing. Your tutorials are so well made and easy to understand, you don't miss a beat! I notice you don't press open your binding seams. I always have and wonder if there is an advantage to not pressing them open. I am so glad I found your website. Thank you, I will keep watching.
Thank you! No, I don't press them open. I don't really like to press things open because I feel it is a weaker seam than if I pressed to one side. I don't actually press my binding at all but if I was going to, I'd press to one side instead of open. I also think, though, that if you like pressing it open, then that is ok too. A lot of the steps in quilting are personal preference.
Thank you for taking time to produce these videos, they’re excellent! Easy to view, understand & learn from. I’ve been following you on IG for sometime but didn’t realise you had a RUclips channel as well.
Thank you for all the quilting know how. I sew the binding onto the front then hand sew to the back. I’ll put my quilts away for the winter then hand bind. That extra warmth feels so good, it gets pretty cold where I live. I don’t enter into competition either.👍👍😊
Yes, just practice. I remember the first time I did it- it was horrible! I remember saying- well I'm never doing that method again 🤣 Eventually I tried it again and I've gotten way better with practice.
Congratulations on a great quilt tutorial 😃🌺🦋 I would definitely use a stiletto, & I machine bind my quilt with binding on same way you did but stitch in the ditch next to the binding on the FRONT of the quilt, works beautifully 😊 I’m not into hand binding
Hello Jessica I am a beginner at quilting and I started watching your videos and I love them, but I cannot seem to find the charm pack that you are using to make this beautiful quilt. I want to do it just like you did it because I do not know how to match colors Thank you keep up the good work
Thank you! Sadly, you won't be able to find that charm pack anymore. Fabric is released from designers and then it typically runs out as people buy it and it isn't reproduced. But, not to worry, designers are coming out with beautiful fabric all the time. You'll definitely be able to find something you like out there now!
Thank you for showing this method of binding. Mine always looks sad and wrong. So I will try your method. Fingers crossed. Also, what is the name of the fabric you used? I love the colors.!
I'm glad you found it helpful! I don't remember the fabric. I know it was Lori Holt but I can't remember the specific collection. It might be in one of the first posts that I wrote for the quilt along though.
Great informative video Jessica. You have mentioned in the past that you sew with the pressure foot of your machine at 0 .... is that still the case when your machine binding?
Thank you for such a great tutorial on binding! When I bind, sometimes my binding seems like it is twisting and I can’t figure out why this is happening. Do you have any ideas?
I have had that happen a time or two before in one section of my binding. I'm not positive but my guess would be that the piece wasn't straight on grain and when I tried to flip it to stitch it down, it didn't want to lay flat.

I am so happy that you found it helpful! Thank you!
Thank you! From a new quilter, I’m hand binding and this helped me get a great start!
Glad it was helpful!
So glad this popped it. It’s exactly what I wanted to do to the Irish chain quilt and I would have done it in a long wasted time.❤❤❤❤
I'm glad you came across it!
Absolutely the best tutorial. Joining the binding ends at the end of the attachment 28:21 has always been my challenge but this method is fantastic. Thank you so much.
Sorry I missed this quilt along. Look forward to joining a future one.
Great!

Thanks! I do my binding like this because I don't like having that hard line pressed into it.

you did the best job showing how to join the binding. Thank you ♥️
You are welcome!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad to have you here!
Thanks so much for your tutorial. This was my first quilt and although, not perfect, it turned out great due to your teaching technique!
That is wonderful! You are vey welcome!
Your quilt is beautiful, your tutorials are excellent. Thank you 😊
Thank you very much!

Correct!! I totally forgot to mention that here! Thanks ❤️

Thank you for your message! I am glad you have found my videos helpful. For the geese, the more you make, the better you get! You can do it!
Great video & instructions! Thank you😊

I have been watching all your videos. Awesome @!
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful quilt!!!
Thank you!
I love watching you. And you explained sewing this binding on with the machine so well, and the images are so good. Thank you.
Thank you so much!

Very helpful video. Thanks!
Thank you!
Love this quilt! So pretty 💕
Thank you!
That was excellent x
Love your instructions ! Easy for me to follow. Great job
Ms. Jess I absolutely love the red white and blue. I have to go back and look for that quilt process. Love how yoh explain very thing. 😍
Thank you!
Great video! I'm trying to do more machine binding but I'm terrible at it. Guess I just have to keep practicing!😂 Thanks for all of the tips
Yes, just practice. I remember the first time I did it- it was horrible! I remember saying- well I'm never doing that method again 🤣 Eventually I tried it again and I've gotten way better with practice.
@@jessica_dayon it's nice to know it's not just me!
Great tutorial

You're very welcome!
I did the same way as you but I sewed in the ditch beside the binding on the front, I will try your way cause mine missed the binding at times.

Great informative video Jessica. You have mentioned in the past that you sew with the pressure foot of your machine at 0 .... is that still the case when your machine binding?
Thank you! Yes, I do turn the presser foot down to 0 even when binding.
@@jessica_dayon Thank you!
What kind of thread do you like to use and what stitch length are you using on the binding?
I like Aurifil. I use around a 2 generally.
What batting would you recommend?
I love a bunch of different ones. One of my most frequently used is Warm 100 by The Warm Company.
Is there a way to watch the Nona series from the beginning?
Yes, there is a playlist and you can watch all the videos. You can find that here- ruclips.net/p/PL7tkUbVINWnSyfnRkP8sW1wktl8caQp-X
@@jessica_dayon Thanks for the link, this will be my next quilt!!
