It's really nice that you show us the imperfections. That's what real life quilting is like! The pillow tip is a great idea, too. Thank you for being authentic!
Thank you so very much. Because of COVID 19 I do not have access to a long arm. I just quilted a full size quilt on my Bernina and I decided to RELAX and ENJOY the quilting. Many, many crooked lines, many, many weird stitches. My quilt is finished and I am HAPPY. Thank you so much for the reality check, if I want perfection I could Hand Quilt my quilts 🤣ha! ha!
I think you did a fantastic job on your quilting. As you said, it's only perfect if a computer does it. Your quilt was made by a kind and caring and highly talented person who is an inspiration to all of us. I love your videos. it's so much fun to spend some time with you.
Hi Irene, I really enjoyed your video. What a pleasant voice you have to listen to and also at a pace that I can follow and understand because I still have a lot to learn about the English language
I just love that you show the real process of learning to quilt with mistakes and all! It gives us the inspiration to let go and have fun. In the end, the mistakes will disappear after you wash the quilt and it gets wrinkled... in my experience. Thank you for sharing that with us! :)
Dear Irene, thanks for showing your miss steps.....imperfections! Years ago my quilting teacher Betty called our miss steps .....the ‘Gods Eye’. I think it’s about the joy in creating. I have been sewing clothing and quilts for years and not one project was perfect but I have found joy and satisfaction in every project. My Danish grandmother taught me to sew when I was 5 years old. (Im 68yo and going strong). I’m so grateful she shared her knowledge with me. Blessings
Congratulations Irene on your baby girl, you must be so excited. You will have one of each and that is everyones dream to have this arrangement for your family. Allow yourself to feel the happiness and excitement while waiting for your due date. Much content to you and your family.
Irene, I love you and your quilt and your philosophy of enjoying quilting without worrying about unreachable perfection. You're doing a wonderful job and thank you for being so encouraging!
You inspire me to work on a quilt I made for a wedding present. They have been married for almost 3 years. Hopefully I will have it completed by their 4th anniversary!
It looks beautiful and I am so appreciative if you showing the little bobbles. It looks so much better than I could do right now, but like you say, if I don't start practicing, then I cannot improve. Thank you for this inspiring video!
Irene, you make me sewwww happy, because absolutely nothing I sew is perfect, you and some others I follow help me to come to terms with that imperfection....thank you sew much
This was great to watch! I have a few rulers, but I haven’t tackled this step yet! I have had a long-armed quilter do mine and they look so good! I know I can’t compete with her work! I need to just try it on a smaller quilt! Thanks for showing your imperfections , too!
Wish I could see you in person and give you a big hug and congratulations on your baby girl! Is she lucky to have a mom who can sew all those cute clothes for her and quilt. You are a real blessing in this Covid19 time, so thank you many times. I also appreciated your newsletter via email that reminded us about just doing something (sending a card, finishing a quilt, etc) and letting go of waiting for the "perfect" moment. Joy to you and your family from this ancient 70 year old farm girl.
Thank you Irene for giving such inspiration to try machine quilting with rulers and free motion quilting. Looks like we’ll be getting a workout just by machine quilting this large quilt. It’s good to have a plan and be free to change it up if needed. Happy Quilting!
I love that you are showing your quilting, what could be considered imperfections and all. I am a beginning quilter and am about to free motion quilt my 15th quilt. You are encouraging me to keep at giving ruler work a try. I've done mostly meandering and straight line quilting. You are right - it makes me happy! We all need good doses of happiness these days. Thank you for your very encouraging videos.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Irene, for being real and honest!! I have a hard time allowing myself to enjoy the quilting process and not be anxious about the far less than perfect result!!
Dear Irene, thank you for all the inspiration and happiness you provide, this has been a great learning journey and something to look forward to every month. I also learned a lot about quilting from Angela Walters and love her teaching and quilting style.. Another great source of quilting inspiration is Helen Godden from Australia 😀

I am also nervous to start. I really love how the mowed lawn row turned out. Very cute. It makes me feel better to start mine knowing it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Thank you. I am a little bit nervous about using my new bernina q16 to quilt my quilts on as I have paid for someone else to quilt them. Totaling new at Machine quilting. Very good at hand quilting thou. So again thank you for doing this showing confidence that we all can do this.
Thank you for showing us that it’s okay for less than perfect. This helps me to think about going for it. I’ve only used a walking foot so far. Your quilting looks great and thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Hi Irene I have a Janome sewing machine I was wondering if the Bernina ruler would work with my machine I have a ruler foot but find it difficult to get the rulers as most get posted from the USA and they become too expensive once they arrive in the UK
Dear Irene. Im a beginner. Working on my fourth Project and I am always a litle nervous about the quilting. My seams are not always that constant as I would like them to be. Sometimes the upper thread seems to come down under my quiltsandwich. Do you change the tension of your upper thread? Thanks for showing us your process of quilting and not struggling with little "faults".
Hoe dik zijn de Bernina rulers? Als ik een ander merk zou willen gebruiken koop ik dan 3 of 6 mm hoog? Ik heb ook een Bernina. Ik kan het nergens vinden
??????? You didn't talk about layering the sandwich pieces when doing quilt-as-you-go method. Are you doing it the same as with big quilts? How many inches extra batting and backing are you using for each of the three sections?????
@@porchsitandknit8532 no she doesn't. She tells how much backing to buy for the three sections but not how much bigger the batting should be than the front, or how much bigger the backing should be than the batting. Depending on the method of quilt as you go she is going to have us do, it makes a differnce in how we sandwich now
Oh I see now that it’s the backing she gives measurements for. She does say how much backing you need, and the measurements. I’m thinking the batting should be around that same size?
@@ShadowMoonFarms I know. But that was for a whole quilt. I'm asking her if there is any special measurements of batting and background we need for doing the 3 section quilt as you go method she is going to use. When we put these parts together we need to have it right, not too much, not too little
I love that you are taking us on your journey of learning to do ruler work. We often place so many expectations on ourselves and think things should be perfect right off the bat. What we don't realize is the "experts" have spent years perfecting their skills. I still struggle with rulers. Angela Walters is my fmq hero. I've learned so much from her fmq tutorials but there is one video of hers I would highly recommend. It was what helped me get over the fear of quilting my own quilts. ruclips.net/video/jGyYSJhk0QA/видео.html
It is great to see you quilting on a regular machine. To me computer programmed quilting just seems like cheating. I would rather just go buy a quilt than do that.
It's really nice that you show us the imperfections. That's what real life quilting is like! The pillow tip is a great idea, too. Thank you for being authentic!
Great job. Life is never perfect. There is beauty in imperfection!

Thank you for showing your”real” stitches! It makes it so much less intimidating to start.

Such a helpful video! I have a set of rulers I haven’t dared use! Now I will x
You are great and I love it that you don’t rush.
Irene you are adorable and full of practical tips, love your videos!
Bless you🤗. Imperfect is wonderful, as are you for all you share with us🥰

Ruler to keep straight across quilt while creating loops! Another great tip!

You’re happy with your quilt and that’s what matters Irene well done 👍
Thank you Irene!! You give me courage to try to quilting, freedom to make mistakes and still enjoy the process !!

It looks great. It looks like a real person did it not a machine. Keep going.
I put a pillow on my lap and it works great.
I am also nervous to start. I really love how the mowed lawn row turned out. Very cute. It makes me feel better to start mine knowing it doesn’t have to be perfect.

It’s beautiful well done. 👏💐🇦🇺
awesome. I also had watched (but didn't try) all the Angela Walters videos on her recent ruler challenge. Can't wait to get set up and start.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Perfectly imperfect and that's life x
It’s beautiful even Angela Walters says it’s how it looks when it’s all done the overall effect I want to try the rulers thank you
You did a super job!
Thank you for showing us that it’s okay for less than perfect. This helps me to think about going for it. I’ve only used a walking foot so far.
Your quilting looks great and thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Thank you!
For inspiration and pattern, not only Angela Walters but also Lori Kennedy and Leah Day, they have free patterns and picture tutorials online.
You have to have a special foot for rulers?
For quilting gloves I use garden gloves
Hi Irene I have a Janome sewing machine I was wondering if the Bernina ruler would work with my machine I have a ruler foot but find it difficult to get the rulers as most get posted from the USA and they become too expensive once they arrive in the UK
The hardest part is still matching hand speed to foot pedal speed.

You look a little low in your seat compared to the extension table. Is being low work for you?
I don’t see on the Bernita blog the row images for us to trace our quilt patterns on to make sure we like them before we quilt them.
👍👍🥰
??????? You didn't talk about layering the sandwich pieces when doing quilt-as-you-go method. Are you doing it the same as with big quilts? How many inches extra batting and backing are you using for each of the three sections?????
You can find this info in the blog post for the final row...scroll all the way to the bottom :)

She did a video last week and sandwiched the quilt on the floor. Watch that one.

I love learning this but I think your videos could be shorter...I kind of get bored befor the end
