    Angela, I'd like to make a suggestion. I hope you won't mind. After you demonstrate how to make a particular design with a ruler, it would be so nice to be able to actually see the design finished, and not a one second look, but actually let the camera stay on the finished design for a bit so we can see the result clearly. I realize you are teaching a technique, but not being able to see the results of it is so frustrating. You are a gifted and talented quilter, but we on the other side of the screen need to see the results of your technique as well. Thank you.

    Penny dropping moment for me when you raised Taj and used a higher point to allow you to remove / place it over a narrower part of the shank. Wonderful teaching! It’s so fun on Angela’s panel! But I have to adjust my ruler foot down against the quilt as far as possible (still allowing the fabric to move under it) to prevent skipped stitches and lumped up thread on the underside. As such, I’m having trouble using the rulers on a pieced top, where the seam line thickness prevents easy movement. Are there any tips for managing the bumps at seams, under a ruler foot? If I adjust it up to slide easier, I get bad stitch quality. Help!

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  3 года назад

      The seam shouldn't be too high to quilt over....just maybe where multiple points come together. Are you using the same batting in both?

    • @susanyoung1950
      @susanyoung1950 3 года назад

      @@AngelaWaltersfmq yes same batting. I can get over seams, but places where 3 pieces or more come together are an issue. I’m too far into the quilting on my pieced top quilt to go back and press seams open, or otherwise reduce bulk. Live and learn! I’m still a rookie at this. Guess I’ll figure something out. Maybe “straight-ish” free-hand with a spring floating foot will have to do for those thick areas.

      I also highly recommend some quilting gloves. Honestly, I just use a pair from the gardening section at Walmart. Those gloves were a game changer in moving the quilt. I also found I really struggled when I didn’t have my quilt supported to the left of me. I wish I could show pictures to show what I ended up doing that helped tremendously. I have a 6ft table behind my quilting table (it’s a small cabinet from the 70’s) and a small collapsible table to the left me. I end up with an “L” shape around my machine. That table to the left of me made a HUGE difference in supporting the quilt! It even solved a lot of my tension problems. If your machine is not in a cabinet, consider getting a sew steady table for your machine. That will give you a much larger work space for use with rulers. Last but not least, it does take a bit of practice to learn to move the quilt and the template at the same time, but keeping them together. Ask me how I know! Lol. But I’m getting better every time I practice. I hope these suggestions are helpful to you.

    • @teresatierney4817

      Little 1 In addition to the above suggestions, do whatever you can to support the weight of your quilt so that it doesn't "drag." For example, you can lower an ironing board to table height to expand your work area and spread your quilt around.

      @@little1942 Thank you for your suggestions, I'll order myself some gloves as I live in the UK. Some really helpful suggestions, I've bought a table special for Sewing as it helps support the quilt. I'm still new to quilt but I've definitely got the bug. I think it's going to be a case of practice, practice, practice on a piece of fabric that's just to learn. A BIG THANK YOU. XXX 💖💝💗👍

    I just realized that I can't use the inside of Squiggy because of the back of my foot (low shank)won't allow it to get all the way into the peak of the inside curve. Does that mean I won't be able to use cut outs properly either?

      You can, you would just need to turn the quilt (with the template) so the template hits another part of the foot ie: the front or the sides. Try using squiggly with the open side away from you or at an angle.

      There is a little triangle under the video. If you click on that it should create more of a drop down list where you will find all links

    Sewing back over a stitched line looks terrible.

    Do you have a tongue piercing? You speech is slurred and distracting.
    However, I do love these rulers and your videos.
