Its so cool to see another Two Dots player! I've been playing for about 2 years, and it's inspired some of my personal projects. I was just vibing to the music from the game upon watching the video.

I know you weren’t sure of the puppet, but The idea of Dai Lu Zhang just sucker punching someone from a distance with her dragon puppet is just *chefs kiss* perfect!
That one had to be my favorite! She had such a fun energy!

The way they described it gave me Puella Madoka Magika flashbacks 😂
She can also use it as a grappling hook, or even to make a barrier, or push something.
She is my favourite as well, she is so fun and the concept is so creative.
Since their hair color doesn’t affect how powerful they are, would some of the less powerful girls dye their hair (or split dye it) to make enemies that don’t know this rule believe they are more powerful than they are? Kind of like how some nonvenomous animals facade as venomous ones to defend from predators that don’t know the difference? Just a thought!
Also on a side note: a few months ago I got a bird and Named it after Azumi’s PRISM, Bijou, so when June said that PRISMs behave like birds I lost it THATS SO COOL!!!!!!
A quick observation: I've noticed when youre designing magical girls you typically give the characters here all the same silhouette. The main Prisim casts have lots of different silhouettes and outfit styles that make them all look more unique. I think if you changed up the dress style amd make less of them cupcake/A-line skirts and dresses it might make the magical girls have a little more flavor to them 🩷

@@ActuallyRea If you’re taking suggestions! Maybe a good way to make Edelie’s skirt more unique would be to make the bush part more bushy and sphere shaped? Like a very trimmed, round bonsai tree! It could be a fun shape to play with regarding silhouettes!

They also seem to all have basically identical body types. It’s been stated in the past that the main cast are meant to have varied body types, and it sort of showed in older videos I suppose, but with the new artstyle-which I otherwise love-they all look exactly the same.

A suggestion for Dai Lu Zhang’s puppet could be to make it into a Chinese shadow puppet. They have a very different and intricate style, however they are beautiful pieces of art that honestly don’t get enough representation! It’s not necessarily tied to Lunar New Year, however I have seen them incorporated for festival usage before. I think it would also lend her some flexibility but still limits her magic set. For example the weapon would have to be operated with two hands, but to make it longer maybe she could “unfold” it to elongate. Or maybe she could operate it with one hand but it would be deemed slightly ineffective in comparison. Obviously just a concept but thought it would be a cool pitch! All the designs are beautiful and lovely ^__^
I like how the paintbrush kinda looks a guillotine along with a fence. Just pulls the theme together real nice.

The hard light construct detail is so interesting????? Like I've never seen someone make such a clean line distinction that it just LOOKS like stuff, not even that it mimics the things properties (thinking of the fire example)

Prediction: There will be a scene, where an especially tough battle results in one of the magical girls being out of power, and needing to recharge their Prism. So they have to rush outside in their fragile human form (possibly while their teammates try to protect them and provide a safe escape) and just point their Prism out to the Sun, bouncing on their toes, like "Come on, come on, come on-", and it's tense and dramatic, and oughhh.
If a prism needs to charge in the sunlight, a rainy week could be a REAL pain for magical girls. Maybe crime would peak during them!

After Netflix canceled Dead End and Inside Job, I basically have no faith in them properly supporting animation under their current business practices.

The caduceus isn’t really the symbol of medicine. Or rather, it doesn’t make sense as one. The staff of Asclepius is a much better symbol (very similar but with no wings and only one snake). Asclepius was a mythological healer and is the god of medicine. Hermes is the god of many things, but medicine is not one of them. The most he has to do with medicine or health is taking souls to the underworld.
Sorry for ranting, it’s just a small pet peeve of mine whenever I see the caduceus being used as a medical symbol.

I read that as a playful way of saying that this girl is either evil or just a complete bitch
I feel like the gems would be a solid condensed gem of the magical girls’ power. When they transform the gem shatters and becomes the outfit so it makes sense that it vanishes in the outfit. Cool art!

June, I just want to say your magical girls series and art are really inspiring. Your creativity pushes me to experiment with design and color. All of this is to say you're a big inspiration for me! Keep being cool
I love how on the surface this universe is so charming and cute but it still has that "fucked up magical girl" undertone with the fact that the military is hiring literal children to fight their wars. It's hilarious and intriguing and I love this world and I hope we get more lore soon!
Yuzumomo and Dai Lu are my favorite designs out of all of them.I think both are balanced when it comes to color, complexity and the themes really shine through with both of them. With Dai Lu I enjoy that you went with hanfu instead of a qipao. I will say that I thought Yuzumomo's weapon was an umbrella instead of a sword lol.
Having been a viewer of this channel for nearly 8 years (that’s completely insane to me) and now being almost 19, watching the development of June’s style and videos is seriously so cool. I genuinely cannot wait for the day I get to sit down and watch Prism as an actual physical series, whenever that may be in the future, and I’m excited for the nostalgia that it’ll bring quite honestly. Always pumped for what’s next to come, June!
I love the quirk of the magical girls needing to deal with whatever outfit or weapon their prism gave them! It reminds me of the Miraculous Ladybug lucky charm.
I absolutely love that you chose to incorporate the hanfu in Dai Lu's design instead of the qipao, while they're both beautiful clothing pieces I think the hanfu generally gives a much more interesting silhouette and has a more mystical magical girl vibe (tho that may be bc i watch too much xianxia). If you end up keeping her I think it would be cool if you played around with the idea of giving her an outfit more inspired by the qingxiong runqun style, it's just so visually stunning and I think it would help pull her away from the tight bodice/big skirt default design that whisspertail mentioned in another comment!
Also side note I think it would be funny if her prism had gone dormant or hidden away before the end of the Tang dynasty and when giving her the design it was like, 'ah yes I'll give her the most popular, stylish look for young ladies these days' and she was just so excited about getting to wear ancient Chinese fashion that the prism thought it had done a good job giving her a cute modern look. Idk if any of that translates well into in-universe prism rules, but its a fun thought lmao
Idk why but I really thought the third girl was holding an umbrella, and I got really excited at the thought of a flower shaped umbrella being used as a magical girl weapon
The entire theme and style of this setting is so beautiful and interesting. I’m kinda interested to see what a villain character would be like in Prism.
RECOMMENDATION: for the last girl you should have taken advantage of the original random design’s skirt looking like a jellyfish. You could have implemented that into the design and maybe do something venom related for the weapon, like a syringe?
I do really like the rest of the designs! It’s only the last one that I don’t think shines as bright as the rest. I do like the way you simplified the color palette tho!
This is such a small thing, but I love that your magical girls are diverse. Like the main girls already are, but then even your side characters are as well. It just makes me so happy that you're including everyone into the universe, and showing that everyone can be a magical girl. Not to mention the art is gorgeous as well. Anyways, just thank you.
My favorites are definitely the paint flowers, the dragon, and the fire. They're so pretty and have cool themes and outfits. I like to think the dragon puppet grows on her hand and just bites people and shakes them around and throws them
My mom passed away in December and she used to play to dots a lot, so hearing you talk about it made my heart do a little jump cause I immediately thought of her
I love the idea that the dormant form of the prism should reflect the outfit not something on the outfit since its the prism's choice on how it looks so it makes it seem way more determined when you get a prism it already has an idea on how it wants you to look.
Dai Lu Zhang is my favorite, shes really cute. The fact that she named her Chinese Dragon Prism Puppy is adorable omg ☺️

you know what would be neat, if when prisms speak they generally make that glass clinking together sound, but they can also make a few other sounds, such as a hollow loud sound, that is a prism yelling, the same sound made when you blow air into an empty glass bottle. or a sort of "singing" that sounds like when you trace your wet finger on the rim of a crystal glass. glass armonica style

I am so excited to have this full-on breakdown of how the magical girl clothes work! I always felt the explanation, in previous videos, were a bit too vague for me to be confident enough to make my own prismsona/ocs. So...ofc now I have all I need to do that 👀🤔
You're too hard on yourself, even your draft designs look beautiful. All of your designs are so amazing and whimsical, I wish that I had that level of creativity.
I love some of these concepts and the idea of a semi-finished production of this would be so fun! I do worry that you are over complicating some of the mechanics of it, like the fading of colors as energy drains from the prism, as that would just be tedious to animate- but it’s your world and your story! No matter what happens with it I think we’re all excited to see what the finished product is!

the dragon puppet one makes me think of the people who hoist up the body of the dragon with long sticks. maybe instead of just a hand puppet, it'd be cool for the base of her want to be hoisting a long dragon like that? maybe the base (aka the head) of the dragon is hard and can be used to grab and hold stuff with it's jaw, while the rest of the body can be used like a ribbon

Not sure if you want viewer advice, but you could try looking into the lion dance costumes (probably southern ones) as puppet designs for the chinese new year design - especially since you can buy little hand-sized puppet versions of as toys - or even a miniature version of a dragon dance puppet if you’re not attached to the hand puppet concept.

I think an interesting opportunity with the phoenix theme would be if the flames weren’t necessarily shot out?
Like there could be some really interesting opportunities for it as a solid light that can act like fire. Especially for like PR. I can imagine an agency like the one your describing realising that an easy opportunity for good PR would be as simple as finding their soldiers(??) with the flashiest but least deadly/harmful abilities to help with standard law enforcement.
Solid light acting like a fire is both flashy and versatile assuming it can be used in other ways than just shooting out. For example as containment. By surrounding an area with something that looks like fire it’s immediately unlikely that someone would even try to leave, but if they did it would be like running into a brick wall rather than through flames.
I absolutely adore the prism series, the development, but I can’t help but wonder, can magical girls get stronger? Like their prism creatures have a certain power levels to start with and they can get stronger,but it’s REALLY REALLY hard to. Just a tiny boggle woggle my mind tried to thonk abt

huh, I've always thought of doing an axe or a giant croquet mallet for a red queen-esque magical girl's weapon, never thought of doing a paint brush
I am LOVING hearing about this world you are creating! also i love magic/power systems with rules that don't limit creativity but instead enhances it, which you have totally nailed! though i am interested in the reasoning behind all of their powers being based on hard light instead of a form of magic, from what little i know about it and hear from you, it sounds a bit limiting in the scope of their powers. Not that it's a bad thing of course, limits and rules make these systems interesting, just intrigued by the decision.
Because you said that they have to recharge in the sunlight, I can’t help but think we could get a beach episode. that is either played completely straight, or ends up being interrupted by either the main threat or a villain of the week. I mean I know nothing about the story and like you said it’s in pre production, but it is impossible to stop my brain from going
That reminds me your magical girl series prism reminds me of another magical girl series called soushin shoujo matoi and these girls have these jewels called regalia that allows them to become magical girls, but also allows them to have these creatures called gods and your base on the Jews with your characters transforming reminds me a lot of this anime. Also, the color schemes as well and I wouldn’t mind if you get a look at this anime it’s really nice it’s really cool, it makes me feel like I can accomplish something to with this because I’m planning to make my own magical girl series and sing, your art has filled me with so much joy and wonder

I’m wondering if you may experiment with these girls having different body shapes? I know that the generators are limited, or that these are background characters or that since they are soldiers they may have a regime and be skinny through that but still, skinny people can have different shapes to them.
Not trying to be rude, just genuinely curious and it can help with the way a character is interpreted or stand out.
i totally agree. none of them are muscular, and theyre so thin its unlikely they are fit to the point where they would have to be thin for it to make sense in the show. they get their strength from magic, so it would make sense there would be some bigger girls
The more I see of prism the more I think this world would be an awesome fighting game with all the uniques weapons and ways they use them

With what you were saying about putting the PRISMs’ dormant forms on characters’ costumes, maybe it could be a matter of the PRISMs’ individual preferences, like whether or not they want to be close to the action

Upon hearing the behaviors of the prisms and how Azumi’s low key hates her, really makes me think about the concept of Katsumi’s (I think that her name) outfit being influenced or other prism girls outfits being affected by their prisms relationship with them. Like I’d imagine that Katsumi’s prism had some form a dislike towards her so it gave her, the very white and light outfit that in the prism universe is considered to be very weak. But because of an invisible bond they have the prism made it where she could gain more color (and lots of them) so that way she becomes stronger. Maybe this could be tied into the prisms strange choices and behaviors like they have some ulterior motive to change people and make them grow in some way. Idk tho this is a just a thought. I also thought a funny episode idea would be that one night one of the main prism girls use up all their magic so their prism goes dormant and in order to let the prism regenerate efficiently they put it on a balcony somewhere so it could be in the sunlight, but then the prism falls off and it’s a whole ordeal and the girl tries to go find it on a wild goose chase around their local area while also trying to keep it a secret that she had lost her prism from the others. To make it less of a filler episode you could make it to where there is a big bad that is unveiled to the girls that will be coming up soon but they have no idea when the big bad will strike so they have to consistently stay on top of their powers and training. But because the one girl lost hers it would be funny if that very night the big bad decided to fight and mid battle she finally gets her prism back and transforms and saves the day or something like that. You know just a fun little episode or something. ✨
Bit late but, for Hotarubi, to expand on her weapon idea. What if putting the wands closer or farther together changes the power of the light being yeeted in their direction. Or, her wands depending on the position, can create a concave or convex lense made of light to create actual fire.
I really like how you create and conceptualize characters, I hope that I can do the same one day! I look forward to seeing more of this universe!

Question, who gets to be a magical girl? I know some are nonbinary, but do all of them need to be AFAB? Do they need to meet certain requirements, either from the Prism or the military? Both? Would Prisms be detached from magical girls that realize that fem-alligned identities don't fit them?
All this questions came to me watching the video, and they are in good faith, being a trans lady, i genuinely wanna know how much the series touches on themes of gender and presentation, knowing how much magical-girl series emphasize the growth of girls into woman, and how the genre has always had lgbtq themes
The prism creatures don’t care about the identity of their host! It’s the leader of the PRISM organization who hand selects who is even allowed to go before the Prism creatures to see if one will select them as their host
I don’t want to get too far into it right now because I don’t want to reveal too much about the show, but it’s got heavy lqbt and gender themes!
Honestly, these designs are all fire! I appreciate how you consider that... vibes, I guess... that you mention at 6:20. Magical girls should look like magical girls!
I wanna see a Orange magical girl, or a brown one. you would be surprised how vibrant brown can be, especially if it's basically just a dark orange.
I have a magic system for my magical boy book, "Dreams of Another World". There's cores that represent health and magic. The weapons can be random objects they have on them. Like a pen turning into a spear/lance.
With the way things are with the Prisms and how they work, I can't help, but picture Yu just stumbling upon hers and it picks her. Since they can't force them to pick they just said,
"You know what, keep it. We can't take it away now, just pair up with someone." And she picks Katsumi.

The fact that it's visible when magical girls' powers are running out must mean that it's probably tricky to conceal their limits to enemies, huh. Unless they have a way to disguise or trick the people looking at them. Or maybe a magical girl could make one go color blind for a limited time? :P
