- It’s been a hot minute, but it’s finally speedpaint time again!
This week I’m delving into my old notebooks and exploring one of my all-time favorite story ideas in a new segment that I’m tentatively calling; “Concept Corner”!
I’ve been wanting to make a series like this for ~a g e s~ where I could really go all-in and tell y’all a lil’ bit about the myriad of characters I made as a kid, and give them a fresh coat of paint in the process - so I really hope you enjoy this installment!

This ended up being a real big video -- I hope y’all enjoyed it!
It feels like forever since the last time I worked on a speedpaint, so it was nice to get back into that familiar editing rhythm again.
It was also a ton of fun to play around with this new format! I’d definitely like to have a go at it again; so pls lemme know what y’all would like to see or hear about next time, and I’ll see what comes forth from the depths of my old sketchbooks 👀✏️

my favourite character concept was probably Eira, but in story I always love the rowdy boys so Dopple would probably end up being my favourite lol

Alchemy and flint are my favorite ones, they seem so cool and their character design is so awesome!

I really think that all these characters are super endearing and I would love to see more of them. It’s hard to choose a favorite when you have given them such great bases to build on.

Now we just need a wendy oldbags who thinks Eira has a thing for them because of how awkward he is around her while the rest of the team tries not to laugh in the background

I relate to that but the funny thing is one of the main characters from my current project is THE first gay character I've ever made (basically I was raised homophobic and while I started to grow to be more accepting I randomly went "hm how about make a gay character for once?" and so I did and he's one of my favorite characters I've ever made to this day)

I did this same thing to a story i came up with when I was in 4th grade 😅. Specificly a character now named Seth who is gender fluid now. But before, they were some evil girl named Alex who "pretended to be a guy/was a tomboy". At the time, she also got smooched a la sleeping beauty by the protagonist who... was... named... Luna... how oRiGiNaL 😂 (her name is Artemis now, so at least a little less on the nose)

Idea for Eira rejecting his magic: Perhaps the reason the kingdom is covered in snow is because of magic. Like, some magical accident or an evil wizard. Because Eira's magic is focused on ice and snow, he has the same type of magic that caused this eternal winter which is why he's so ashamed of it. And if an evil wizard is responsible for the winter, maybe Eira is one of their descendants.
This might be able to tie in with the fact that he was a street punk in the past. Maybe he disagreed with his family about this, and was either disowned or ran away from his family on his own. And he just doesn’t wanna be like his family/ancestor so that’s why he’s so unaccepting of his own magic.
I love these ideas, Alex NEEDS to see these-

That's because all of the other wizards Heartless had met have all been skinny. They all have used their magic and not their muscles. And then there's this stoic fighter guy who could throw him through a tree without magic and Heartless is SCARED.

YES. It'd probably a small villian, but I love the idea of Flint being the really supportive one and celebrating every small victory. (Now I really want an episode where the characters are forcefully separated and we get to see how they act by themselves, cause Flint seems like the kind of characters that's really supportive of others, but desperately needs validation from others to the point of genuine fear if it seems like someone isn't proud of him... I'm dumping my own shit on him, oh god.)

Flint and Alchemy are the parents of the group, Heartless is the chaotic youngest child, Doppel and Glass are the unhappy middle children, and River is the responsible oldest daughter with anxiety. Eira is the weird cousin. I love this dynamic for them

Headcanon: Heartless has emergency sunglasses to cover his eyes for safety reasons. And Alchemy probably made them for him.

man the fact heartless is dead is so morbid and sad if you think about it. he possibly has a family who lost their son and they have no idea he’s walking around undead and just fine and he can’t even remember who his family is if he has one at all. he can’t remember who he is either.
I can’t even imagine the inner turmoil heartless must have some nights as he wonders who he was before he was dead and what things could have been like if he never did die. he would probably try with everything he has [maybe literally] to remember but he can’t and i can’t imagine how much it would crush him to not even remember a scrap of his old name. yet he powers on in spite of it and doesn’t let it hold himself back from going on the search and being as happy as he can.
the image of heartless looking in the mirror and not even recognizing his own face is so incredibly sad to me. he is by far my favorite but these batch of characters and the villains have all won my heart equally and i can’t love one more than the others.
i hope heartless finds who he is but doesn’t let it clash with how he is now and it joins together and he becomes a whole new person full of love and freedom of who he is. all with his friends alongside him the whole time GOD I LOVE THIS STORY

My old story that I made three years ago, which was back then literally called "the war between heaven and hell" but is now "Angel of Hell" used to have all straight mcs. Now the Princess of Hell (Muriel,her name will be changed) is lesbian,the Prince of Hell (Lucifer)is Pan and the Princess of Heaven (Amara,her name will be changed soon) is Bi. They're is a bunch of other from side stories but those are the main ones.
All my OCs were gay anyway, they just didn't know it 😎.

I can imagine Eira being naturally very cold as a side affect of his powers and if they had to travel through a hot environment, Flint would just be clinging to him and Eira would basically just be forced to drag him along while also being flustered
Head cannon: dopple doesn’t need to wear the same clothes but they choose two because the original insists that if there going to twins they might as well look bad butt while doing it. Either that or they do it without realizing it and at first the original was super annoyed by it.
the original was really mad about it, but later on he starts insisting on it, because not only its because of the twins things, but because it is very helpful, it helps to confuse the enemy

Ok but I love the idea of River getting into a super climactic fight with nobody else there to help her, and she uses her ability super creatively to just body the villain. She could accelerate the power that a villain is using so they lose control of it and it misses, or she could accelerate their sense of pain. Like early golden experience from Jojo.

As a twin watching this, my first thought upon learning Dopple's story was the angst opportunities they could have. Like the anxiety side having an issue of wanting to be treated better, given a separate name, or even just treated as something separate. He's been separate from the original boy since they were small children and it just feels like something that would come from a situation like this. They started the same and my brain really wants to poke at the fact that they're separate now.
There's also the really messed up option of them figuring out how to put Dopple back together and having to make that choice. Lose the basically brother you made when you were a kid and get to be whole again, or stay the way you are right now. Like dude, the angst possibilities with those two it so strong!
Anyway, this story sounds super cool and if you ever make it into a full-on thing, I'd love to see it! Hope you have a nice rest of your day! :DD

You know, because Eira has snow/ice powers, what if his skin was really cold? He doesn't mind the cold (for obvious reasons), but what if all people that have magic that has something to do with cold had this? It got me thinking: What if, the group went somewhere really hot, and Flint (being Flint) was struggling. So he just walks over to Eira and just hugs him. This of course makes our frosty boy VERY uncomfortable, but he just sighs and give Flint a pat on the back.
Another idea I had for a story arch or what not, is that for reasons, Alchemy disguises themselves as a bad guy, and infiltrates their base. During this time, the rest of the group is stressed and panicking, and have to fight the urge to go in there and save them. It would be a cool opportunity to show how much they care about each other, even if they don't show it all the time.
A simple thought for angst (because that's what I'm good at), is that one day, Heartless uses too much power, and ends up beginning to drain River's energy, causing her to become unconscious. She's only knocked out for a few days, and everyone assures him that she's fine. But after that, Heartless becomes afraid of his own abilities. He only uses a small percent of his powers, and becomes distant, afraid he'll hurt his friends again.
And my closing thought: What if, one time while they were visiting a town for a job, they meet a girl, and she takes a liking to Eira. Now, Eira being Eira, he freezes (no pun intended), and just stands their awkwardly.
I'm thinking too much about a story that isn't even mine again.

BAM! Dagger goes flying, we get a look at the villain's shocked face before a full-page spread of Eira, standing before his friend, newly created ice sword raised high, the first time he's ever done so. The power of (possibly more than) friendship, baybeeee~!

Please, he thinks again, and his tears freeze on his cheeks. His eyes have adjusted. The windows have been frosted over, ice covering the stone of the floor and walls in a blast pattern, deadly and explosive. Spikes rise, sharp and fatal. His king's breath comes out to add to the white of the room in little puffs. There is blood on the side of his face, but he is alive.
Snowflakes grow out from dust, water forming crystals on specks of dirt and falling when they become too heavy. *Not him,* he had thought, and ice had formed from him, a sick imitation of shaping snow.
Eira knows he is just as filthy as the dust in the center of snowflakes, but for now, with his king alive, he is too relieved to think about that.

How I see it happening (using other peoples comments) is the villains bandy and lance are fighting the group and eira is fighting lance and then bandy swaps lance with flint so eira accidentally stabs him. He freaks out and goes ham on lance and bandy

It would be really interesting if in the story, Eira gets his ice sword when he's in the midst of a fight with someone much stronger than himself, and the sword he's using gets shattered. He's very clearly going to lose if he doesn't use his magic, and as a reflex, he either re-forges or makes the sword of ice to survive the fight and save whoever the opponent is after.

I feel this. When I was younger I made a bunch of characters in an MMO, and over time fleshed out their personalities and backstories. I got back into this game during the pandemic and, having realized that I'm bi during the interim, promptly got to work de-hetronorming them!

I love the idea of all of them running through a forest. Like just imagine: Heatless running through a forest or park chasing a butterfly and he kills all the plants, but then Alchemy runs after him, and changes the dead flowers to live, pretty ones! Then Flint runs past and they burn a little bit, And then Eira goes past and the plants get all frosty. After that, River runs past, stops, regrows the plants, and continues to try to catch Heartless. Finally, Dopple runs past and the flowers double in number. And then it cuts to a townsperson sitting on a bench who just witnessed that, and looks absolutely bamboozled.
Idk, just something i came up with to play with how their power work.

my suggestion is that we use all three openings in different episodes, the epic is the angst and most story related heavy episodes, the flowerfield is more light and happy episodes and the disasters together is the comedic learning to work as a team episodes

I think it could be kinda cool if River's ability to help others with her magic but not herself also played into her as a person, like if she sometimes provides a listening ear for the rest of the team when they're feeling down but is terrible at vocalizing her own problems. That being said, Alchemy is also 100% the group therapist.
Some thoghts/ideas on Doppel:
1-. The "Core" doppel is actually the shy one, the bold one is the product of the spell
2-. They may fuse back some day, but since they've spent so much time appart they have developed distinct souls, so they cannot remain for long in this fused state
3-. Doppel actually comes from a family with a long line of twins, wether he actually has or had a twin or not is up to debate (imagine alchemy changes to imitate Doppel for a mission but they find Doppel's actual lost twin and things just go feral).
4-. He's a good getaway driver, not because he's actually good, but because he can just flip the car around on a blink, so he crashes a lot less than he should.
5-. He's a cryptid, and not like "weird guy" cryptid, a real one, like big-foot, or mothman.
6-. Bold Doppel has already dated a lot, but Shy doppel just runs into the woods when things get too heated for him, this point links to point 5.
Imagine there being 4 doppels like there’s the bold one, the shy one, Alchemy and the long lost twin. Everything would just simply be ✨c h a o s✨

Doppel is by far my favorite, mainly because of his design and powers are so interesting. Also a story popped up in my head hearing about him.
That doppel slowly starting to like his "twin" and the "twin" slowly finding a place in the world and considering himself to not be just a copy, and for that to all end because a villain kills the "twin". Having Doppel watch it happen and feel all his power coming back only to fucking rage and explode with angry and killing/defeating the villain, would both be heart-breaking and amazing.
Still the design's are really cool and super unique. ^^
