There's hope since Monster High got rebooted! I got interested in EAH only a bit ago and I only have a very flawed Raven Queen and would love to get a new doll of her without paying a scalper.

Please everyone stay calmed, let's clear all misunderstanding.
1st. In the episode of Apple White, Apple herself said to Blondie that *"she and Daring are still not a couple, that they have a forever after to be together"*
This meant that they were going to end up together because it's written in their stories, so it didn't matter that they were hanging out or going on dates with other people, cause at the end of the day, Apple and Daring would end up as a couple and get married. So I guess in a way Daring wasn't cheating on her, he was merely enjoying his youth until he would become Apple's one and only Prince.
Second. In the EAH Dragon Games special, Apple was poisen (shocker🙄) and naturally it was Daring's moment to save her, but his kiss didn't work, the one who saved Apple was Darling Charming (aka Daring sister) but she use CPR so it wasn't a real kiss (well discuss that later) anyways with that it was reveal that Daring was not meant to be Apple's Prince.
And 3rd. In the EAH Winter special, Daring was having a breakdown wondering what would become of him since his story/destiny changed. So blah, blah, blah, he was turned into a beast, Apple didn't like his appearance, blah, blah, blah Rosabelle didn't care and fell in love with him (shocker🙄), blah, blah, blah, the spell was broken and they became a couple the end😑.
Again I don't care that they ended up together or even IF the EAH series ever makes a come back.
I will be a Daring👑 x Lizzie❤️ shipper till the end
You gotta love it when apple says raven is selfish for not signing the book but nobody reminds her that almost all of her friends die later on in their stories so technically raven just saved herself and if not hundreds of other students from her decision

I found this show through the *books,* and didn't process that it was a doll line for AGES.
Would recommend them! They're nicely written, Maddie will literally talk to the narration sometimes (which is *much* more jarring on text) and there's a book where she has to take over their job.
Also in those books the Evil Queen is imprisoned because she basically tried to break the banks of her fate and directly conquer everyone else's, and *that got added to Raven's fate* (which she brings up a lot less than you'd think). They kinda bring attention to the fact that what her mom did isn't _entirely_ dissimilar from the rebellion against fate Raven is trying to pull off.
I love the books! They are one of my favorite series, and I really appreciate the fun, yet really interesting characterizations that everyone got, as well as the depth of world-building (especially the parts surrounding Raven and her mom!). Maddie is absolutely one of my favorites in this series.

Heck yeah, I adore the books! I’m a proud owner of almost all of them and I still really love them, the amount of world building and expanding on the characters is amazing!
(also the fact that the Two Sisters were treated as so obscure that people thought they had stopped existing as well as having a much less murdery version of their story than the folk song* threw me for a bit of a loop when Swan Lake was still a thing in the setting with no indication that it had changed)
Like, I'm really happy those two got represented, but it also left me trying to figure out who these fairy tales were being *told* to. Presumably the audience the toy line was initially built for?
*which is fair since that is legitimately a less popular and thus more flexible story that you can add tropes from other stories about one sister trying to kill the other and getting punished.
Edit: Also who in the flying heck palace was the bog king in book one??? I think of myself as decently familiar with folklore, so his shape is decently familiar, but recognizing his actual name is an entirely different thing.
Duchess Swan is the next Odette in Swan lake. In the most common versions of Swan Lake, Odette and Siegfried drown themselves. And you know Odile stealing her face.

Because she has these mean tendencies i always assumed her to be Odile not Odette. But actually this way makes a lot more sense.
Iirc, in the world of EAH, Duchess is angry at the world because her mother, Odette, is stuck in her swan form forever. Being stuck as a swan is Duchess’s predetermined ending. So, it’s not death, but it ain’t fun either.
Bro why am I finding this out YEARS later! My 7 year old self didn’t know what Swan Lake was so I thought she was the daughter of the Ugly Duckling since she doesn’t get a Happily Ever After. I feel so dumb 😭😭😭

I believe it was too expensive to animate or something? I’m sure that wasn’t the SOLE reason, but I know that contributed heavily to why Everafter was cancelled. Detailed outfits are often more time consuming which equals more hours of labour.

I always interpreted Duchess’s motivation to be that she wants her story to get a happy ever after. These kids won’t live out the exact stories their parents did, we see that clearly in some of their genders, their dynamics, and especially when we get a peek into Apple and Raven’s destinies. I think they’re meant to live out the retelling of the story, just like how in modern day we have many interpretations of these classic fairy tales (anything Disney ever made, etc). Sometimes characters get happy endings, sometimes they don’t. I think in Ever After High there’s only a select number of characters that can get these happily ever afters, which is where the ranking comes in. If someone falls down the ranks, they lose their claim to a happy ending of their tale. Duchess’s original story doesn’t have a happy ending, and where she falls in the Royal rankings means she won’t get a happy ending unless someone is knocked down. However, we know that there are retellings of her story that give her a happy ending.
TLDR: They’re living out the retellings of classic fairy tales where some retellings get happy endings and some don’t depending on their ranking in this world.

I read the book series before I found the show and they go into more depth with the characters motivations in there. I remember especially liking Duchess Swan's book and how it explained why she acts the way she does and the fact that she's basically trying not to die because that's how her fairy tale ends in the Ever After High version of her story. (At least that's what I remember)
I just searched the story of the Swan Queen and there’s not hint that she dies. If anything she marries a prince and lives happily ever after. What story is Ever After High following?

I was CONVINCED as a kid that Giles was so traumatised by the cave or the spell was put on him he was forced to speak in riddles, therefore scaring Milton into believing that only bad things happen when you "go off book." Idk why but even 9 year old me thought the Milton Grimm storyline was weird so I made up my own

I do loved Ever After High Series but I am disappointed that ever after high series was cancelled because there's so much things that need to be resolved before the series will finally end like revealing Cerise Hood's family secret, Who's Apple's destiny Prince, how Darling became the white knight, the Ever After High graduation day and show what they doing in the future now, but unfortunately this is not going to happen so the writers decided to end with the cliff hanger.
If I remember correctly there is an episode where Apple falls under a sleeping curse and the only one of the Charming siblings who is able wake her up is Darling. So Apples story will be a queer one.

Giles probably got cursed and locked away because that's what happens to ever princess when someone is trying to "protect them". Granted, the cursing is usually done by the bad guy but it still happens.
I really liked the books, there's only four of them but they are all amazing. One of them is also a cross over between EAH and Monster High that goes hard
Actually there are quite a lot more than 4. There’s a whole series about side characters for example one I read called, ‘A semi-charming kind of life.’ And then there were a bunch of digital only books.

In my head, the way Ever After High’s destiny system works is that there are a few key roles that must be fulfilled for the story to play out as intended. The rest of the cast can be unimportant background people. The specifics of the original fairytale don’t matter as much, and things are a lot more chill than the original tales because this is a series meant for children and some older fairytales have some disturbing elements in them. For example, let’s look at the Snow White fairytale. Apple White is the Snow White, Raven Queen is meant to be the Evil Queen despite not being Apple’s stepmom, and Darling Charming has proven that she’s meant to be the love interest, the Prince Charming who saves the princess. Hunter Huntsman is the only Huntsman at the school (to my knowledge) and is apparently going to fulfill the Huntsman role in both Snow White and Red Riding Hood. Their roles are the only ones set in stone. I don’t recall seeing children of the seven dwarves attending Ever After High, so it’ll probably be a random group of dwarves that Apple meets in her tale. The good king who marries the evil queen and then dies is also negotiable, since Raven is the same age as Apple and so can’t really be her stepmother in any way. The only factors that matter to the story are that the good princess is tricked by the evil queen and falls into a coma, only until she is revived by her true love, at which point the evil queen is defeated and the lovers get their happily ever after.
The diary that came with the "royally ever after" apple doll actually tells a potential version of how their story would play out if raven signed the book! Raven would be apple's boss instead of stepmom, & would poison her bc she's annoyed by apple's perkiness, rather than out of jealously over looks. You can read it on the eah wiki!

@@neyssag5460 he’s definitely got that kind of disposition. Humble, kind, thoughtful, and to top it all off he fell for Raven first, later he started liking Cupid who started out at Monster High, so he’s definitely got a thing for spooky girls
I remember a few months after I first learned about EAH, I was in a Taco Bell on Halloween, and a little girl came in dressed as Maddy, and when I recognized the character her face lit up so bright, and her parents were like, 'See, some people do recognize it.' It made my day to make her that happy!

In the Legacy Day book, Headmaster Grimm does cancel Legacy Day after Raven doesn't sign because they all started arguing and Headmaster Grimm said they were all immature, so, yeah - it got cancelled. Also, Lizzie Hearts is my fav character because I relate to her on so many levels.
I feel like people are WAY to hard on Apple. Like she genuinely cares about her friends. She really feels like the girl who was raised in a safe, sheltered home (like she thinks if you take a $2 pack of gum from a store you’ll go to jail for life lol). But yah as a rule follower I always related to Apple. It was so hard for me in my teen years when all my friends wanted to go against the rules but my anxiety wouldn’t let me. That being said I do always applaud that eah was told from Raven’s point of view a bit more. As often many stories are told from the “goody two shoes” characters pov and there are times when we need to be strong and go against the grain.
Yeah, Apple got character development and decided she wanted to be her own person and dropped her destiny because she understood Raven. I felt really bad for her since her mother was pushing so much pressure on her to become perfect and popular.
She changed a lot, and I applaud her for it

EAH at its peak is the best show I’ve ever seen. It’s one of the few shows I wouldn’t mind getting a reboot for.

At the end, I’m a bit surprised you didn’t mention the narrators at some point. I think they’re a neat method of establishing the different interpretations and they play into the Wonderland elements which you mentioned liking.

This show had such a great potential and plot. Even if they bring it back they will reboot it and make it even worse than the new Monster High. I miss the days before 2020 😭
The new Monster High isn't bad (at least the series- it's better than G2 lmao), we're just used to the old MH and miss it. But I've watched a bit of G3 and, really, it's fine. The designs are great, the episodes are fun, and the changes they made are largely good! Like making Frankie nonbinary.
There's some things that throw me for a loop, sure: like choosing to go with Frankie x Cleo as a relationship, but it's fine, and francleo is cute lol. You just have to watch it with the knowledge that they're never gonna go back to G1, and accept the new series for what it is. If you have an open mind you'll end up much happier with the decision to reboot it again.
If they ever reboot it I hope they'd just change the design into something more modern than changing the story plot. I like all character developemnts as such anyways....

I was sad that they wanted to make movie with EAH and MH, but never happened. It would be something awesome, but they cancelled it, because of Disney. They even would introduced a new character from MH.

Ever After High is the only multimedia thing where everything was equally good. The show, dolls, and books are different, but at least in its prime they were all incredible. This will always hold a special place in my heart
I've been waiting so long for this video! It makes me so happy seeing a bigger youtuber talking about this show! Also the fact this was partially motivated out of spite after the treatment of the original eah video is great. I live for the petty
I watched EAH way before Netflix put them on their site, I was so used to Legacy Day being like, the “season 1” finale or something cause it was just random filler episodes in between.
I also love how the most of the Royal are actually Rebels and most of the Rebels are just Royals, they’re basically just Raven’s allies

I was in high school when ever after came out. I loved Monster High and was already collecting the dolls and saw Ever After pop up on the shelves beside them. The fashion of Monster High was more my style, but Ever After had more compelling characters and arcs. I'm forever sad that I only ever got one Cedar doll because I wish I could have collected so many more for EAH😊
I also was very obsessed with fairytales (a special interest, if you will) and when I found EAH, I was so happy watching it. I love watching your videos, especially these ones where you talk about EAH!
What shocks me is that we never got a chance to see more of Robin Hood's story: it's even more obvious to me that someone doesn't want to sign off on this story; they would literally doom an entire kingdom (and I can't believe one generation could undo the damage done by one story turn) and you ask the child gods to willingly sign up for an entire lifetime (or at least a year) of living on the edge. We also have no idea what happened to their parents (except Marion) or what will happen to the future Prince John (it would be great if he was actually a good king and felt devastated about forcing his people to deal with such a situation) . I don't want to take anything away from Raven, I love her and will always cherish her, but man I'd be lying if I said that Sparrow and his gang didn't have a lot of reasons (that don't just concern themselves) not to sign on. Last thing, it would have also been nice, considering that there is no magic in Nottingham, to see the reactions of the students like the merry men on the first days of school: I don't know why but I imagine Sparrow either fascinated or completely terrified

I was interested in this series when I first heard that C.A. Cupid was going to be in a new spin-off show of Monster High. I personally like EHA more than MH because it plot just feels more interesting and the dolls look really good. Though I wish we had a EHA kid who was the daughter/son of the “Evil Dragon” from more fairytales. At least MH had Jinafire Long.
What I took away from this was that Prince Charming and the Queen of Hearts’ daughter are like bagels. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
That’s just so cute that they can vibe together due to them being so similar. The scene with them talking gave me diabetes due to them being how sweet they are to one another. 😭 ❤❤❤👑
Duchess SLIGHTLY makes sense if you look at the story of Swan Lake. Swan Lake wouldn't exactly end in a happily ever after, soooo she might've genuinely wanted to steal someone else's story so she'd take their happily ever after as she would never get one.
Am I the only one who loved that Maddie’s name was spelt “Madeline” but it was pronounced “Madelyn” it added to her quirkiness in my opinion.

Ever After High was honestly the gateway to me keeping my love for fairy tales! Now that I'm older, the thing keeping that love is Twisted Wonderland!

I love the nuanced Apple opinions because I’ve genuinely had enough of people straight up not acknowledging she means well… also this entire show is about people wanting to get what they deem a happy ending. All of them even Raven. They all have the same amount of selfishness inside them and that’s not a bad thing. Like you said in 15:18 “No one is really good or bad”
I remember reading a comment on the wiki page that when a royal enters the rankings, they're guaranteed a nicer ending. Probably an alternate version of the original lore, OR there might be a safety net for when they finally reach their bad ending. Kind of like if in your story, you're destined to die, it's written like that HOWEVER you are still very much alive after everything.
I mean, some of the villains in fairy tales end up dying and yet they still had children after their story ended??

The Dragon Games was a SPELLTACULAR movie. I loved it as a kid and recently rewatched it again as an adult for the nostalgia. I appreciate it a lot more now. The plot is genuinely good, the character arcs were emotionally taxing and the DESIGNS. THEIR DRAGON GAMES ARMOUR. MAGNIFICENT.
I was so sad that the series got discontinued. It was my favorite show and way better than Descendants. I've always loved Winx type shows, thanks for re-covering this!

in the book i think after raven didn't sign Headmaster Grimm cancelled the Legacy Day Ceremony so some people didn't get the sign. That's how the whole royal rebel thing started cuz a few people were relived that they didn't sign and a few were upset

I really enjoyed the narrators of the series, so much so that it could be fun to see their own children show up in the series as supporting cast. The idea between the children of the narrators is that they both really do want to keep the stories going, one focusing on the strict narrative structure most of us are used to seeing and the most publically well-known versions of stories, while the other has a looser interpretation of the rules following in the (ironically) older tradition of storytelling where the narrator is basically a participant observer and is so acutely aware of just how there are so many different versions of most fairytales that even though they know which story a character is talking about or part of that they actually will point out there are different versions and/or ask which version of the story other characters are talking about; I also think it could be a fun twist on the whole idea of stories having narrators, and the narrators sending their own children to the school to effectively immerse themselves in the stories they will be helping to tell is a fun thought to have.
I also had the idea that the stricter of the two would side with the Royals. In contrast, the ironically more traditional of the two would side with the Rebels because the more stringent of the two believe a story needs to follow its given narrative no matter what because once a story is written down, that's how it will always be until someone comes along to correct some errors, while the more relaxed of the two is of the belief for stories to survive they need to change and grow with the times because they believe a story is its own entity that needs to adapt and change with the progression of time. Both approaches are valid, and have merit. And I like to think, to an extent, we see this played out with the Grimm brothers themselves, the idea that different ideas of how stories are meant to play out are reflected in the characters of the Brothers Grimm when we encounter them. But the idea of the narrators also having children being sent to attend the school to basically get them to understand why their future roles as narrators are so important, despite the fact they already know this, could be fun to see, along with the two constantly poking fun at each other for their narration styles and approaches to storytelling could be absolutely hilarious, especially with most of the rest of the cast basically being lost on the fight or only partially managing to keep up. And because Maddie can actually hear the narrators, and has interacted with them on occasion, she would be one of the only other characters to reasonably keep up with the future narrators during their little spats and disputes while she's there. Still, the fact of finding out fairytale narratives can, and have, the ability to change could embolden the Rebels a bit to fight harder to see what they can do to change the narratives of their own stories.
And, honestly thinking, if the series had been allowed to continue we might have seen those sorts of character pop up.
It still hurts me deeply how Apple was,, almost unable to see things from Raven's perspective.
We know Apple cares for her friends, but i think, above all, that she just wants her destiny to become true.
She wants the stability that comes with it.
But i don't think she really truly realises that not everyone has that stability. Least of all the "villains".
I feel like it turns the story (snow white) on its head. With Apple pushing Raven into something she clearly doesn't want. I really really wish they could've explored that. With Apple ending up accidentally poisoning Raven or something, so she had to see her friend be in that position because of her. I think (at least for earlier Apple) that would be among the only ways to make her realise what Raven would have to go through.
I also kinda would've liked Raven start learning basic survival skills, like farming and stuff to prepare for "inevitably" being homeless. (its a bit of a headcanon of mine that she does)

(Maybe Apple could have seen her tend to an Apple tree she's been raising (it grows a bit quicker because she's studying botanical magic outside of school) and at first getting really excited about Raven raising the future poison apple.
She goes to talk to Raven about it (because Apple lacks tact, we all know this) but before she can say anything about any poison apples, Raven startles and nervously asks what she's doing here, Apple says she just followed her after class because she looked suspicious, and asks what she's doing. (I'm thinking "But what are YOU doing here Raven? I wasn't aware that you knew of this place. Are you bringing up a poison apple tree ;>?")
Raven is used to those comments at this point, she rolls her eyes and crosses her arms, "No, Apple, I've been learning about agriculture in my free time." She pulls back a shrub, revealing several small patches of farmland with small leaves breaking through the earth in the nearest one and ripe vegetables growing in the farthest.
Apple was about to speak, confused by what this was, when Raven continued talking, a rare undertone of pride and excitement accompanied her voice, "It's almost time for the first harvest."
Although still a bit lost for words, Apple managed to prop the question, "But what's this for? I wasn't aware you had a hobby in digging through dirt."
Raven stiffened next to her, Apple tore her eyes off the vegetables. Raven was avoiding her eyes and a frown darkened her face. "Well. Some of us have to prepare for their life after their destiny."
"But didn't you say that you wanted to write your own? And why would you even need to learn this stuff in the first place? I don't get it."
Raven closed her eyes. She hadn't expected Apple to understand, why would she. "I did say that, yes. But that doesn't mean I will get that chance. Some people-" her eyes briefly flick up to meet Apples before she looks away again. "-are really set on it coming true. And I don't want to end up on the street and go hungry because i wasn't prepared. So I do have to learn this stuff. Because unlike you, i don't get guaranteed to live out my days happily ever after in comfortable bliss."
They fell quiet after that, and it felt as though even the birds had stopped singing. Apple was unsure of how to respond. She hadn't really considered this.
Raven mentioned previously how the fake story book of legends had shown her to homeless and alone, back then Apple dismissed it. Hadn't taken it seriously.
To her, it hadn't been real, how could Raven be homeless? How could she be alone? They were friends, right? Apple wouldn't allow that to happen.. Right?
She'd just invite Raven to live with her in her castle, they'd live a happily ever after together. And they'd get to hang out with their friends again like they do now.. Right? Well.. Briar wouldn't be there, she'd be asleep.. But Darling and the others would be there! Hunter and Ashley.. Would they still be together then? Would they be allowed to? They'd all be fine. Things would be like they are now. They'd all be happy.
Apple snapped back to reality. When had it gotten this dark? When did she sit down? She got up, dusting off her dress before she looked around and called; "Raven?" Nothing.
Apple hugged herself, she felt cold. Quietly she made her way back to her dorm room. Throwing one last glance at the apple tree. One of the apples was slowly starting to redden, one half was red and the other still a light green.
My hand may have slipped.

honestly the main thing i was wondering when I saw Ravens destiny in the book was 'wait when is she going to have time to start a family so the next gen has an evil queen during all this?' but probably it's because it's not the real book and Mr Grim made it while having a huge grudge against the evil queen and prop piled in a bunch of extra stuff just to be a dick, kind of like how we see Daring and Apple married in that book even though he's not actually the person who is 'destined' to take the prince charming mantel

YES EVER AFTER HIGH AMAZING cedar has a grasshopper clip in her hair and i kept watching the time on the TV in the background i rreally look forward to the rest of this like deep dive of ever after high. something i thought was cool about ever after high was how it could also mean the "making your own path or following what others (probably parents for the demographic) tell you to" as like a deeper lesson. one thing that i realized recently that confused me was how a good amount of the rebels technically fall under the categorization of "royals" but because of the name it just seemed like royals were princesses and princes. for example, maddie seems like she wants to continue her dad's tea thing and hunter is totally fine with his destiny of being like his dad since his destiny doesn't specifically say who he has to marry, and like this video said ashlynn and briar now kinda fall into the rebel category even though they are technically "royalty"

I regret giving away all of my Ever After High dolls SO much. Their outfits are genuinely so good and are so nostalgic for me. I've been looking into trying to collect them again but oh my lord are they expensive, especially the original outfit ones.

I’m 11 and I watched ever after high all the time and I’m a hard descendants fan I’m so sad that this show was overlooked because it was amazing I have a toy that’s a box of keys that you can record your voice and it was so fun to play with I really hate how no one knows what I’m talking about when I bring it up❤

Briar doesn't want to sleep for 100 years and get her happily ever after- a lot of times, the friends you had before med school aren't going to be there afterwards. 8 years of not having time for them does take a toll on friendships. Tack on the "your parents are doctors, you should be too" pressure and there you have it 😗

I don’t think anyone would want to be put into a sleep against their will for 100 years because so much will happen in that time. Essentially all of her friends would be dead when she woke up, so she’d be alone. And depending on how faithful the fairytales were, considering the Brothers Grimm’s involvement, she’d wake up pregnant. It’s definitely an allegory for consent
